itshappenedagain · 13/05/2010 18:34

hello all!

MDM congratulations, glad you and felix are both well.

after lovely regular contractions yesterday, was only 2 cm when i got to the hospital so was sent home, only for them to stop altogether a couple of hours after i returned home. so im still here. seen MW today who did a sweep, but nothing has happened so far. have been booked in for next friday for induction pre assesment, and the could be any day after that. am tired as i havent slept for three days and head is fully engaged so im walking like john wayne crossed witha 104 year old woman! praying that something soon.

hope to see more anouncements soon!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 13/05/2010 18:50

Hi all, congratulations to all the new arrivals.
Sorry I haven't posted sooner but have been a wee bit poorly.
My mind is still quite fuzzy over many things, DH has filled in most of the gaps re my labour. Will post the full story in a few days, but is taking a while to organise my thoughts and get them down in writing. Still getting lots of headaches and merory is shot to pieces, truly feel like I was hit by a train, not just had a baby.
To cut a long story short I had 2 Eclamptic fits during labour. No warning signs at all, just thankful that I was already in the hospital (on postnal ward annex being induced) and they saw that DD's heartbeat was over 200 beats per min, mine was also high, so they rushed me up to the (already full) labour ward. I had my first fit within 1/2 hr of being up there. I just thank God that I was, if I were at home it could have had a very different outcome.
Pamelat, what was your BP at your booking appt with midwife? If the lower number has gone up by more than 20 they should be monitoring you very closely. I was a clear case of just because someone doesn't show all the signs of pre eclampsia, it doesn't mean they are not at risk.
Take care all, I'll try to do a catch up post in a few days.

mollybob · 13/05/2010 18:57

hi squirtsmum just noticed we're near neighbours (bit slow on the uptake, me)

where are you booked to have babe? I live on Belfast side of Bangor but work in East Belfast and am having babe in UHD

hope you see some sign of action soon

LuckyC · 13/05/2010 19:22

God five, how scary. Congrats, though.

booboomonster · 13/05/2010 19:25

Five sounds like you?ve quite an ordeal. Thank goodness all ended well. Hope you and Florence have no side effects.

MDM many congratulations! Sounds amazingly speedy - hope that was a good thing, it certainly sounds it! Very cute name too. Hope to hear birth story when you get a chance.

itshappened hope things kick off soon - though perhaps after you?ve had a good nights sleep? Sounds like you might need it?

pamelat sounds like you are organised but what bad timing for your poor DH - hope he gets better soon and then you can feel more relaxed about going into labour!

Carikube haven?t heard the Duke of York theory before? might give it a go if I go overdue!!

Pigley/Mollybob haven?t bought ?snacks? for hosp bag yet as I know there is no way they will last ?til then (and I really don?t need more temptation - think I?ve put on all my baby weight in the last 2 weeks since I?ve been off work).

Pigley can?t believe your mum - mine did say she didn?t like the name but that was before we?d decided on it. She refuses to call our DD by our preferred nickname as she doesn?t like it but at least that?s just a nickname! Mind you, get her onto politics and she is an absolute nightmare - stroppy teenager springs to mind.

cupcake impressed at your waxing - I am too embarrassed to have the ol? lady garden done (have attacked it with a bikini trimmer instead) but I am planning on having legs done next week - I can?t reach too well with a razor. I had lovely reflexology today and have highlights booked in for tomorrow morning. Getting organised before the big day?

Good luck to all those wanting things to start?. I went into labour after 2 long walks so that would be my recommendation. But - save some energy for labour - I woke up in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago with a bad pain which I think was the baby resting on a nerve. But it did remind me of the utter exhaustion of labour so I am determined to try and take it easy in the days leading up to it (if I can remotely predict when that will be?.)

LuckyC · 13/05/2010 19:25

MDM congrats to you and Felix - great name.

myfirstbump the time is slipping through my fingers like water; Matilda already is so different, and fitting into newborn (not early baby) clothes, and the days just stream past. I guess this is what people mean when they say to make the most of it all, even these tough early days...

pamelat · 13/05/2010 19:33

Five nice to hear from you, sounds like you have had an horrific time of it. Glad that you are all ok.

My bp lower number is up by 25 but thats the highest its ever been. "Usually" (in the last 6 weeks or so) its been up by about 15-20.

DH feels marginally better, he is thinking about eating. I think he really needs to as once labour starts (my last one was 30 plus hours) he will feel terrible.

Once contractions start, I am going to hospital quite early as its a 40 min drive (used to live 10 mins away) and I remember the drive being very painful last time.

Happenedagain not long now for you I hope. I got to the hospital at 1cm dilated my first time round but with very painful and regular contractions. Madam was back to back (found out later).

littleowls · 13/05/2010 20:10

congratulations on the birth of Felix, MDM!

five - sounds like you had a time of it. Glad everything turned out well and welcome to Florence.

Hope for more news soon! x

pigleychez · 13/05/2010 20:23

Cupcake-Glad your all preened and ready now
Thanks for updating the list... New arrivals is getting bigger and bigger now Looking at the waiting lounge and noticing all the names we dont hear from any more... wonder if they have had thier babies or not yet?

Squirts- I feel your pain being overdue! Are you booked for an induction at all yet?
I was a right moany cow being so overdue- Ask Sweetkitty!

Kaffa- I will be buying some pineapple in the shopping tomorow too and have the Indian takeaway menu's ready for Sat night!

SK- I wouldnt mind but we havent mentioned our name choices to my mum at all! Shes just taken it apon herself to assign it names!

Rachel- Your bump is rather impressive!

Happenedagain- Oh how annoying that they stopped! Fingers crossed the sweep starts you off again soon.

Five- Sounds like you had a rough time of it! How scary! Like you say... at least you were in the right place to start with. Hope you and Florence are doing ok.

Pamlet/Five- I had my 39week appointment today too and like you Pamlet, my BP was up. Its been up and down all through and have seen a consultant about it. She didnt think it was a worry at the time but has risen again lately.
I have to go to the hospital for a BP check on Tuesday morning (day before EDD) now.
Interesting that you had no other pre-eclampsia signs Five.. MW was drumming them into me today.

My top and bottom number have raised by over 20. My BP seems to be all over the place at the mo

Hollyoaks · 13/05/2010 21:29

Evening all, wow a lot to catch up on since this morning!! Here goes

MDM - congratulations on little Felix, at how fast you went, well done

Pamelat - to hear dh is no better. My bp went right up for about 2-3 weeks just before dd was born so it could be a sign of labour, but worth getting checked out again if your worried.

Heffa - pics on fb are gorgeous, very cute kids

Alimouse - poor ds having to witness such an ordeal for your little cat , tricky conversation for you too.

Mollybob - thanks for the congratulations, but still no baby here yet! However, I have a serious case of baby brain (especially at work!) and seem to forget everything and just seem incapable of functioning in an organised manner.

James/myfirst - fingers crossed your bowels are telling you its almost time

Angel - how frustrating that it all tailed off in the end It'll happen eventually.

Schipo - sorry that it wasn't your waters going, that must have been a bit of a disappointment. You guessed the meaning of my fb status too, the new PM did not go down well as a Northerner in a labour stronghold and a teacher, dreading to think what's going to happen to education (and more importantly my wage and contract).

Carikube - dd does the grand old duke of york at her dance class on a weekend. I have to join in and have to say it hasn't worked it's magic yet. I find the hokey cokey would be more effective.

Pigley - dd's fingers are improving, the blister on one finger has burst which she wasn't happy about but it seems to have dried out today. The other finger is still badly blistered but tonight is the first night without bandages so we'll see how she gets on.

Cupcake - glad you are feeling tidy and ready for baby

Squirt - have you not been given a date for induction yet? I thought they only let you go 10 days over!

Kaffa - I don't think any of your self induction methods work until baby is ready to come, all they did for me last time was make me uncomfortable for a couple of hours. Having said that I picked up the wrong curry from Asda, I got a madras instead of my usual Masala or Korma but decided to give it a go. The result, one contraction!

Rachel - that's an impressive bump pic Enjoy the sausage and mash, we had that last night.

Itshappened - oh for you, how frustrating!!! Hopefully now your at 2cm it won't be much longer.

Five - sounds like you've had a tough time of it. Thank goodness you were in hospital, hope your feeling better soon and enjoying lo.

Luckyc - definitely make the most of it, one day you'll wake up and their one and then your onto your next dc and then I'm sure some of the other mams with older dc will vouch their suddenly teenagers.

Phew! Good tip by whoever said to open up a new window, it really helps.

Well last day tomorrow at work then officiall start ML . Thank goodness, I am exhausted but feel I've given the kids the best chance at their exam. Should be enjoying tonight but dh has really annoyed me! I spent hours cleaning the kitchen on Sunday and since then he has left dishes all over the bench, spilt coffee and not cleaned it up, basically made no effort to try and keep it clean. Really

pamelat · 13/05/2010 22:00

DH is just starting to feel slightly better and I am getting worse back ache and more period like pains. My mum has slightly freaked me out by saying that with her second (my brother) she just had period pains, felt a bit sick and then whoosh suddenly a baby

Am not sure she is remembering accurately. She also had high bp with my brother so was fortunately in hospital for the whoosh bit

I wonder if you have similar labours to your mums?

pamelat · 13/05/2010 22:03

On a separate note, and a bit silly but I feel an over whelming love for my DD. I could almost cry today at how much I love her (I normally moan about her, she is 2 so I figure thats allowed ). I think the fact that "mummy and DD" time is going has over whelmed me.

My parents popped in tonight and asked her whether she wanted to stay with them one night next week and she said "no just with mummy", little cutie. Normally she'll go anywhere that the chocolate fun is.

sweetkitty · 13/05/2010 22:06

Evening all, everything fine here rough night last night was up at 11, 2 and 3 but the 3am was tough as he was up for over an hour fussing and just looking about. Had a lie in until 7.45am this morning and an hours sleep this afternoon. I have no idea how I am going to cope when DP goes back to work next Tuesday, am feeling quite weepy about it, it really is a 2 man job just now. Jacob is great though he is keeping us guessing with his eye colour, sometimes you look at him they are brown sometimes blue, the girls all have my exact shade of blue eyes and my hair so DP is really wanting Jacob to have brown eyes like him.

hollyoaks - glad DDs fingers are getting better, I bet you cannot wait to start ML now

pigley - that's good then, keep your names to yourself and once the LO is born just TELL your Mother the name, she will have to get used to it then. In a weird and slightly twisted way I am glad my Mother didn't like my DDs names as she has to call them by them if that makes sense? And as for going overdue you are MOST definitely allowed to moan and whinge it is the pits.

pamelat - this labour won't be as long don't worry. Glad your DH has perked up a bit too.

five - poor you again hope you are recovering well

itshappenedagain - oh no poor you, that happened to me to with DD3, two hours of good contractions then they all stopped, hope they start up again soon for you

rachel - saw your pic impressive bump

heffa - loved the pics what a sweetie and your DD is lovely as well, glad feeding is going well

squirtsmum - aww poor you I got to 41+5 with DD2 and was ready to kill anyone who even spoke to me

Right I hope everyone else is doing well am off to bed now, I know the minute I fall asleep Jacob will wake up,

SquirtsMum · 13/05/2010 22:30

Ello all

Scan tomorrow to check size of baby - we knew LO was gonna be big but as scans aren't overly accurate christ knows what size we're getting

I'll be induced on monday if nothing happens over the weekend but might be in for a section before that as MW seems to thing LO is too big to fit through my pelvis - tbh I've given up, I just want Squirt out.

Mollybob I live in East Belfast and am having Squirt at the Royal as thats my doctors catchment hospital - wanted a homebirth but was laughed at by doctor and was told no chance (NI has something silly like a 2% HB rate, I'm orginally from Torbay, Devon and the HB rate is something like 15-20% so found that a bit odd)

Will let you know how the scan goes but something tells I'll be pregnant by Monday lol

xxxx

booboomonster · 13/05/2010 22:38

pamelat I can totally relate to the mutual DD affection - mine is 2 too. I feel a bit sad about this being the last time for just the two of us and I think she feels same - she is very affectionate at the moment. Usually she is too busy to cuddle or kiss me but recently she's been super cuddly - the other day she grabbed my face and said 'I love you so much!' ?!! It's been a bit of a love-in! But I guess we'll still have that relationship, and hopefully the baby will just make the family unit stronger.

sweetkitty good luck when DH goes back to work - I remember that feeling from last time!

Oh and meant to say Rachel - wow very impressive bump!

booboomonster · 13/05/2010 22:39

squirt - good luck with scan! Hope something starts to happen soon.

mollybob · 14/05/2010 00:47

sorry for too early congrats holloyoaks - so much for feeling proud of myself for managing to keep on top of the thread

good luck with scan squirtsmum - not the most progressive part of the world this I mentioned a home birth and it was as if no one had heard me. Don't think I would have done anyway. Couldn't handle DD wanted to rub my back and DS wanting to know all the scientific details of the birth process. I'm not sure of the accuracy of all these scans - seems an obsession with doctors and midwives now compared to my last pregnancy...

good night all - wonder if there'll be more news by morning

first1 · 14/05/2010 08:52

Hello everyone!

I see more bubs have arrived since I last checked in, congrats to all the new mummies!

I had a scan on Tuesday, baby is measuring 8lb9oz already (sh*t!) I had one to investigate CPD from my apparently small pelvis. The woman who did the scan, also a midwife, scared the crap out of me saying I should definitely have an elective. I went into panic mode and requested a next day appt with a consultant where I went in, cried like a moron, to be told that I've been scared for no reason and he has full faith in me to birth her naturally. So for £130 for a so called "reassurance" scan, it was far from it!

Due on Monday but very confident I'll be horribly overdue!

Off out for a power walk with my mum into town, I want this baby out! So no time for personals I'm afraid, other than rachel very impressive bump! Will sign in later to catch up on everyones news and do personals then. Have a nice day everyone.

pamelat · 14/05/2010 09:35

booboomonster - glad its not just me
DD has elected for a morning at home with me, "No playgroup mummy", making the most of it. We are going to head out for a walk to look for bunnies on he park , she wants to take them a carrot and put one in her pram?!!! (a rabbit that is, not the carrot, ambitious I think )

Good news is that DH is much better and has gone back to work today.

Am 2 days overdue, with DD I had her on the second day. Crikey.

SK hope you had a better night?

Hobnobfanatic · 14/05/2010 09:40

Pamelat - mums do forget! My mum claimed it was a doddle giving birth to me,. She was reading a book, felt some period pains, the midwife poked her head around the door and asked how she was. Mum said she wanted to push and the midwife just laughed at her. She pulled up the sheet to examine her, and my head was there! Mw told mum to push and I was born, with my mum still holding the book.

That's how my mum remembers it - and I believe it's complete codswallop. With my first DD, I really hoped that maybe she hadn't been exaggerating and perhaps it was genetic - that I'd have a super-easy birth too.

Nope! I had the shock of my life!

Will catch up with others' news when I can - baby crying again now!

Carikube · 14/05/2010 11:30

Well I can safely say that the Grand Old Duke of York has had no impact as I am still babyless this morning Am officially due today so feel that I can really start whingeing tomorrow.

Saw the MW yesterday and the good news is that baby's HB is back to normal so cutting out caffeine obviously worked. She's booked an appt to come and visit me at home next Thursday where she'll do a sweep if nothing has happened by then (she reckons that she might as well put the appt in the diary as if I've had the baby, it will just be her postnatal visit).

DD is going through a rough time at the moment with major teething issues that means that she is very upset and very clingy - don't think she'll be too happy when I finally do go in to labour...

Good to hear from those of you with newborns and how you're getting on

MoggMum · 14/05/2010 11:38

Sorry bit of a 'me' post this morning but just got back from my 40 week midwife appointment and feeling bit down. After being in the right position for weeks baby is now back-to-back and head still not engaged! Booked in for sweep a week on Sunday so looks like I'll have to start crawling around on all fours until then! Don't think this baby wants to come out

Sweetpeasmum · 14/05/2010 11:56

Hi all, it's been a while since I last posted (nearly 2 whole threads) but I have been lurking as much as I can.

Many, many congratulations to those who have given birth already and my sympathies to those still waiting beyond their due dates. I have now been on ML for a couple of weeks and have run out of things I really need to do. I spent the first week with a cold and an abscess behind one of my wisdom teeth and this week packing, cleaning and sleeping. I now feel far more relaxed and still have a week to go until my due date.

My DS is a bit unsettled, he's 2.6, and I think it's because he knows I'm not at work anymore. I wear a uniform for work and usually drop him off on the way, I think it's the civvy clothes that have given me away. He is a bit clingy too so I'm quite pleased to read that some other DCs are behaving in a similar way. I do have a question though, how have other DCs reacted to their mum in early stages of labour? Does it frighten them or have you kept them out of the way?

Anyway, all the best to those waiting, hoping, etc. x

pamelat · 14/05/2010 12:25

sweetpea am wondering the same. DD is 2.4 and very perceptive, like most 2 year olds. Although she wont be there for labour, she is going to be around for the first hour or so if it starts before bed time.

To be fair though she has seen me be sick before and also seen me with severe toothache when I ended up in tears. She handled it well saying "be ok mummy, want medicine" and I found giving her little jobs to do, fetch tissue etc, really helped. I think they are more scared if they feel helpless.

I guess it depends how severe those contractions are in that first hour though!

myfirstbump · 14/05/2010 12:28

Oooh, I hope childbirth is genetic! The women on my side of the family, well, all my maternal side of the family, have all had fairly straightforward births. I'm not taking that for granted though.

Mogg - hope baby turns back for you soon. It can feel such a let down when it seems to go backwards, but I know plenty of people whose babies engaged during contractions, so there may be some hope yet!

Five - that does sound scary. Glad you're recovering ok. Lovely name btw. My Mum would love us to call this one Florence, but it won't go with our surname.

LuckyC - will be sure to make the most of the sleep haze part then!

To those feeling weepy, snap! Think DH is too, but the man version ! The overwhelmingness of what's about to happen is starting to hit home, and the realisation that things will never ever be the same. In a good way of course, but still.

We're going out with his family and nephews for the day tomorrow, then it's my bro's birthday on Sunday. Trying to keep occupied as much as I can to not think about what comes in between not having and having the baby!

Hope everyone has good days and weekends.

Happy due days to those expecting them! x
