Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TomlinTowers · 09/05/2010 21:11

Hi All

Peaky - sorry to hear that you are feeling bad about you weight. I was weighed last time and MW said I needed to be weighed and it written in my notes because they use the recorded weight to work out the right amount of anaesthetic if they need to do c-sec. I would try not to worry about it too much - lots of people retain water that can increase weight and it goes when you are feeding/running around after baby.

Pamelat - I had a lie in today too!! Hurrah for DHs who let us sleep in!!

In fact, have hardly done anything with DS1 this morning - he went for a bike ride with DH this morning, then we went round to Mum and Dads for dinner and then DH took him swimming, so I seem to have spent most of day pottering around house tidying up, reading or doing crossword - very relaxing!! So, Angel and Hollyoaks - you are making me feel v lazy now!!

brb that you are feeling upset about your family leaving. My parents and sister and brother in law literally live around the corner from us in the same village. We can be at each other's houses in about 10 minute (or 5 mins if you run). I love it but DH does sometimes feel suffocated because we do everything as family - you just mention a day out idea and suddenly everyone is coming too!! I hope you can get to see your family more regularly soon.

Pigley - the playhouse sounds like a work of art - we must see pics of the finished article next weekend!!

Carikube - I really, really really want mcdonalds and banana milkshake now - how bad is that?!

kateyjane - good luck for the 11th - that's not far away at all!! could you speak to your midwife about any further info you didn't get from the registrar?

We had a bit of scare last night - noticed additional discharge on Friday lunchtime, managed to convince myself by Saturday night that triage MW was wrong and my waters had gone so rang labour ward again. They advised me to come in and bring hospital bags so that saw us trolling down to the maternity unit and 9.30pm. Saw lovely MW who listened to all my concerns and monitored me for an hour and then did exam to see if it was waters. Apparently, waters have not gone but I do have additional discharge, so wasn't my imagination! Also says I have very healthy cervix [proud emoticon even though no idea what I have done to make cervix healthy!), which is slighty dilated so could get fingertip inside, but no signs of movement towards labour grr. Also found trace of protein in urine and ketones so need to make sure I am drinking more water. So, although wasted trip in terms of waters breaking, was very useful to actually have someone take a look and tell me what's going on!

Back to MW tomorrow and have list of questions about sweeps etc to ask her. This time last pg I was in labour with DS1 - why not this time?! Waiting is not my strongest point!

Hope everyone else doing well and looking forward to more birth announcements from those who were being induced/c-sec etc last Friday!!

brightredballoon · 09/05/2010 21:27

ML yes I only bled for 5 days but I did have a cs so thats probably why.

Its surreal rwading about the nesters whilst I am sat with DD2 feeding away, cant wait for some more news or arrivals!

Think I might try out my breastpump soon, DD is feeding well but I really fancy a large glass of wine and because she is still so new (14 days tomorrow) she doesnt have a feeding pattern yet so I darent indulge when I am uncertain if she would stir for a feed!

Does anyone know if we are ever going to get some decent weather?!! I am still in maternity clothes (well some normal clothes but mostly maternity clothes) and am desperate to buy some new things but everything in the shops is summery and I think I will freeze wearing them!

I think a few of you were talking about holidays a while ago, whats everyone thinking now? I would love go away in October but am having a job finding somewhere that fits all our criteria for a week. Might just defer back to Centre Parcs although it grates on me its the same price as going to Europe!

sweetkitty · 09/05/2010 21:44

I am awaiting all these new birth messages, c'mon babies

BRB - I have heard that as well, if you have a CS you bleed less as they kind of erm hoover up a bit. I have to admit my bleeding isn't bad at all. We have booked up for a midweek at Centerparcs in October. Sorry you are feeling a bit isolated I know how that feels, maybe once I am feeling a bit better and DP is back at work we could meet up, am not a mad stalker or anything

Tomlin - aww at getting your hopes up, I know what you mean though I went at 37+5 with DD1 and thought I would be early second time around as well, 41+5 she turned up at!

angel at al - at all this nesting calm down ladies!

peaky - cannot believe MW weighed you, I don't know what 18kg is in lbs etc but now is not the time to worry about it, there is nothing you can do about it now and TBH you are growing a healthy baby is the main priority now. Once the bay is here you will be able to lose the weight again.

Better be off little man stirring. We are fine still very raw and sore plus emotionally all over the place. Jacob is jaundiced but feeding well still, utterly gorgeous snuggling his little head makes it all worthwhile

kateyjane · 09/05/2010 22:14

Thank you for all your kind thoughts about the bee sting. The lo has been very active all day today, so I think it must have got a big shot of adrenaline! My finger now looks like a sausage!

MDM - We had a nappy wrapper with DD1, but I found that it did get quite smelly so never bothered with it again. I think nappy sacks and the outside bin are the best

Pigley - Your bump recording is fab. at your playhouse, I'm sure it will be great when it is up.

Moggmum - Our cat initially took a liking to sleeping in the cot, so I filled it up with packets of nappies so she couldn't get comfortable - so far it seems to have done the trick.

Pamelat - Sorry you had a bad night's sleep, but at your lie in. Hope you've had a restful day.

Carikube - Hope you're feeling happier

ML - Hope you're managing to get some sleep and are recovering from the mastitis. Thankj you for the good wishes re induction. I absolutely cannot wait to stop itching!!!

Angel - Hope you manage to get some rest in somewhere! Can't believe how much you manage to do.

Hollyoaks - Have been nesting too, problem is that now I don't want anyone to go into the lounge or make anything in the kitchen

Tomlin - Glad you got some reassurance from your trip to the midwife unit. I would speak to my midwife instead of the registrar, but have only seen her twice during this pregnancy because I've been consultant led. I think think they assume you know everything when it's your 4th , but every one has been a completely different experience for me so it's difficult to compare

BRB - We are going to Norfolk at the beginning of June, I always find it easier to get a cottage somewhere, but it depends whether you want a real break or not? Think I may be pushing it this time! Not sure we will have got into any kind of a routine by then

SK - Hope you are okay. Can just imagine how lovely it is snuggling with Jacob. Hope you get lots of support from your DH and your lovely DDs.

Hope everyone else is okay. Thanks Rachel for saying how you manage to do such good posts, had never thought of opening up two windows but finding it much easier to reply now

Have a good week everyone - bet we see quite a few new arrivals this week

pigleychez · 09/05/2010 22:27

Sorry ladies, just need to rant!

My Mum was due be my childcare when things kick off. Been having pains tonight and timing them and they reached every 6/7 minutes so was starting to get abit excited.

Mum was online on MSN so I warned her that she may get a call later. They live about 45 mins away this time of night. Anyway she then goes on about not being keen on driving at night and that she may be able to get dad to drive her?! Then about how Dont you have a friend who could come?
Yes a friend has said she would in an emmergency but mum not fancying driving at night isnt an emergency! She has a toddler too so isnt ideal.
Apparently my mum has a hospital appointment tomorow so would need to be back for that or come afterwards.. Its at 9.30am and hopes she wouldnt be long. - Ill have a word with baby and tell them to wait or hurry up shall i?!

My neighbours have said they would be available but are in thier 70's and would be happy to leave her with them for a few hours whilst mum gets here but not for a long time. She doesnt know them that well and they arent spring chickens bless them.

Soo pissed off with my mum right now. If it was my sister she would be there instantly!

The pains have died off abit now and not as frequent so guessing its nothing serious. Bloody good job too I guess!

We would have to ring the inlaws who would happily come but would take even longer to come as my MIL doesnt drive anywhere past the local shops and would need to contact my FIL to get him out of work etc.
Grrr why is nothing simple!

Sorry rant over!! Think ill go to bed now.
Hope everyone is well

cupcakefairy · 09/05/2010 22:44

Evening ladies. Still no more babies?? Where are they all hiding?

BRB I have stocked up on mat pads as they were on offer in Tesco otherwise I would have said yes! Thanks We're hopefully going to do our first holiday with baby in the Autumn too. Love Center Parcs but as you say, so expensive! We usually trawl the net for private cottages to rent you can get some fab ones with hot tubs etc.

pigley to your problems. Glad it doesn't seem like you're going anywhere yet though!

I too have been super grumpy with dh this weekend hope it is a sign! Though I have just arranged a cinema date with the other still-pregnant girl in my NCT group for next week so after Weds would be good (we're going to see that J-Lo film where she is pregnant..bit worried about scary birth scenes! Haha)

Dh and I got to grips with the tens machine today so confident about using it now. Dh did manage to make me jump out of my skin by accidentally cranking up one of the channels to full though Labour could be interesting!!

alle01 · 09/05/2010 22:45

hello, all
just a quick note to say that baby oscar and i are home and all right, only came out of hospital yesterday afternoon, so just coping by now....

KatnKankles · 09/05/2010 23:47

Hi all

Very at all those with new arrivals... they sound gorgeous.

SK - hope you're managing ok with 4!

Interesting to read about foul moods... I'm normally quite a happy sort of person, especially with the kids but I've been a right cow today, I just wanted to sleep all day . Luckily the DCs have been out a lot of the day with my Mum but I feel awful for being a grumpy mother.

Due date is on Wednesday and I just know I'm going overdue (last 2 were 6 days over) again. I'm fed up of people asking me if I've had 'any signs', fed up of SPD that's stopping me from going out much and fed up of these bloody BH that make me get my hopes up then stop .

Does anyone else keep getting hot sweats? I keep getting random flushes and sweats.. it's really annoying and I can't seem to cool down. I don't feel ill or anything... I read it can happen but I've never had it in anyo of my other pregnancies.

Sending labour vibes to those who need them... hope it's not too much longer for us all.

alle01 · 10/05/2010 00:00

nearly morning all,
got a minute to post, but couldn't read much so no personals, sorry
we are ok and at home at least, but i have anemia, so in iron tablets now...
in labour from monday night, gave birth thursday noon, home saturday night
i couldn't have a water birth besides the pool being available, because by early thursday morning when in stablished labour, was too exhausted and needed epidural, even so i managed vaginal birth, with ventouse, because needed to deliver quickly, baby's heartbeat dropping, so i am very pleased with that.
at home and well now, except iron levels, just struggling with breast feeding, my milk did not come yet, and oscar is 3 days old, so bf difficult and frustating, but mw assures all will be well when milk comes, hopefully tomorrow or day after, off tomorrow to breastfeeding group, i need all the support i can get, and first outing since labour started last monday, so terribly exited....
thank you all for you lovely comments and all support in my really hard final weeks of pregnancy, i will try to read up and be more on the thread now that i am home
good luck to all those waiting. won't be long now, and it is soooo worth it
sorry for me, me, me post.

Hollyoaks · 10/05/2010 08:05

Morning all

Had a really crappy night last night, woke up three times for the loo and then again at 4am with really horrible tummy cramps. Thought they may have been early contractions but ended up back on the loo (sorry tmi ) and felt really nauseous for a few hours. Poor dh was woke up too and as it was so light and I had all the windows open we couldn't get back to sleep. Managed an hourish before the alarm went at 6:30am. DD also up from 7am and have the health visitor coming round at 9:30 to give us lo's yellow book. Does anyone else get the yellow book to record baby's weight, immunisations in etc... or is it just in Northumberland/North East? Glad the house is spotless

Alle - glad your home, your labour sounds like hard work but you seemed to have coped well Good luck with the bf, I gave up after three days and have always regretted it. Glad the hear your getting plenty of support with it.

BRB - we're going to centre parcs in July, lo will be 6 weeks if they arrive on their due date. Hoping they get here earlier and I can have a swim.

Kat - I'm getting lots of hot sweats at the moment, like you I don't feel ill but struggle to cool down. It's worse at night too, have to have all the bedroom windows open and can't bear the have the covers on. I was the same last time but it was snowing and January, poor dh!

Pigley - sorry your mother's annoying you and messing you around. You'd think after they have been through this whole labour, birth and parenthood stage they'd be a little more helpful. I find my mother seems to forget all the difficulties she faced when me and my dsis were little. Hopefully lo will arrive during the daytime.

Katey - hope your finger gets better soon Same here with the not wanting anyone to eat or drink or use the bathroom. Think dh has picked up on this, he's washed everything he's used before it had time to hit the bench.

BRB/Tomlin - both mine and dh's family all live very close apart from my mil who lives about 45 mins away. It's great for family get togethers and babysitting etc... but sometimes gets a bit suffocating. Nothing's private and we rarely get to have a family day on our own, sometimes we would love to move away, but think it would be hard without the help.

Hope everyone is well, surely there must be some more birth announcements by now.

MoggMum · 10/05/2010 09:00

Glad you're home alle01 and hope your milk comes in soon. Relieved to hear it's all worthwhile

Hollyoaks I saw my Health Visitor last week and she gave me a red book to record baby's immunisations etc (I live in Dorset).

Kat I get hot sweats too esp at night. Hope you don't have to wait much longer for your LO!

cupcake let me know what the J-Lo film's like. I've only just got round to seeing Avatar (on DVD)!

BRB hope you manage to express soon so you can enjoy that (large) glass of wine

Pigley sorry to hear you Mum's being difficult.

Re holidays - we were supposed to be going to stay in MIL's villa in Spain end August but relations with her are at an all time low so not sure if that's going to happen now . To be honest I'd rather go to CenterParcs as I've heard so many good things about it but the cost is an issue.

Woke up feeling nauseous again this morning so think this is the way it's going to be until LO arrives. Determined to get up-to-date with all the washing & housework this week

Hope everyone else is ok and look forward to hearing the next birth announcement!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 10/05/2010 09:00

Alle- welcome back and congratulations on the arrival of Oscar. Hope the breastfeeding group goes well today. Also hope your cat has reacted well to the baby and put your mind at rest on that front!

BRB - thanks for the offer of the mat pads. I have also stocked up, so will pass too.

Pigley - at your mum. Better have words with your LO and tell it that it can only arrive in the daylight! Looking forward to seeing pics of the playhouse when it goes up.

I haven't really had the cleaning side of the nesting bug, just the decorating the nursery and making stuff for the baby side of it! I have managed to empty out a drawer in the kitchen though to store baby-related things like steriliser, bottles, breast-pump etc. in.

Cupcake - like you, I am one of the last two in my NCT group to give birth. I'm due tomorrow and the other girl is due on Thursday. Our group meets up every Wednesday either at someone's house or a cafe, so it has been nice to meet all the other babies. One of them is nearly a month old now though!

Not much planned for today. It looks lovely and sunny outside, but they just said on the radio that it's freezing, so I might not venture out just yet. Meant to be meeting up with a friend who had her baby in Feb, so will have to leave the house at some point today!

Hope everyone has a good day, that all DCs behave themselves and the grumpy feelings lift.

pigleychez · 10/05/2010 09:07

Cupcake- I can imagine my DH doing that with the Tens machine too!

Kat- I too feel like a right old moody stroppy mummy at the mo
Not hot sweats but always looking flushed at the mo.

Alle- Glad your both home and doing well.
Shame you didnt get your water birth- Next time!

Hollyoaks- you had a bad night.
We get a red book for baby and get it when the MW comes the first time she comes to the house after the birth.

Well still here.. no more pains overnight.
Have the joyous task of ringing my mum later to confirm exactly what she is or isnt willing to do... ie drive at night or in rush hour!
Nice timing though hey.... Just as your having pains every 6/7 minutes! This is soooo typical of my mum.
Totally agree Hollyoaks... You think they would understand wouldnt you!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 10/05/2010 09:25

Ooh, was going to comment about holidays.

In a normal year (i.e. before I was pregnant) we would usually do a 2 week holiday somewhere far afield in the autumn, a 1 week ski trip in Feb/March and then one or two 1-week holidays in Europe in May and September (avoiding school holiday!), plus the odd weekend away. But somehow I think we may have to scale back on that now. At least both my parents and DH's parents live near the seaside (mine are on the south coast and DH's live in Whitby).

However, we are going to Canada (Rocky Mountains) at the end of July for DH's brother's wedding, so will have to hurry and get LO a passport as soon as it arrives! Apparently there's a 3 week waiting list to register births at our local town hall, and you can't get a passport until you've registered the birth and got all the paperwork, so we'll have to be pretty organised. I'm really looking forward to the trip, but also not quite sure what to expect as it will obviously be our first holiday with the LO. We're renting an apartment together with MIL and FIL for the first week, then DH, LO and I are staying on in the same area for an extra week after the wedding. I'm meant to be booking the accommodation for that today. Hoping to try to find something that's the Canadian equivalent of centre parks (if such a thing exists!).

pamelat · 10/05/2010 09:36

Alle just to say congrats again, sounds like you are doing brilliantly.

I am due tomorrow or Weds, different dates depending how you calculate them. In fact mumsnet calculated it as 8th May, 2 days ago!!! Anyway else found that?

I have been so tired/grumpy/sick feeling but today I feel a bit hyperactive. I think it s because DD is at nursery, bless her.

Am not looking forward to breast feeding again, I remember nights of leaking milk/wet sheets (despite breast pads) and being utterly exhausted. Still will give it a go, won't be so precious about it this time though. Managed 4.5 months with DD but hated about 2 of those!! (Sorry to any really pro breastfeeding people).

pamelat · 10/05/2010 09:39

re holidays, we have a week in Kent booked in late August. Taking both sets of parents with us as require babysitters for a friends wedding

Would love a week away in July before the schools break up but I think thats ambitious, probably try for late Sep as just the "4" of us!!!

Carikube · 10/05/2010 11:38

Grrrr....woke up bright and bouncy this morning after my emotional car-crash of a day yesterday but am now back to being grumpy. I think this time it has no bearing on my being pregnant but more due to the fact that I am now up to day 4 of MIL staying and as DD is in nursery today the two of us are just rattling round the house together. She is being as helpful as ever (coming and standing and watching me struggle to put washing on for example, but not actually helping) and to top it all off I seem to have killed the washing machine and I can't get an engineer until next week so we'll be having to go to the launderette instead.

Alle good to hear from you and glad to hear that you are now at home.

As for holidays, we don't have anything major planned this year - we took DD to New Zealand last year when she was 7 months old but decided that trying to do anything so adventurous this year with 2 DC would be pushing it. We're probably just going to spend a couple of weeks at my parents in Chester and use them as a base to go out and visit people/do day trips to nice places over the summer.

cupcakefairy · 10/05/2010 12:21

Aww Carikube bless you sounds like a day. So annoying when people are there to help you but actually don't! And what bad timing with the washing machine...hope you can get it fixed.

MDM oooh you're due tomorrow how exciting! I'm impressed your nct friends are getting out with babies already; I haven't met any of ours yet. We're also going to BIL's wedding with 6-wk old lo but only to Kent!! I admire you going to Canada! I read somewhere that registrars come to the hospital every day for people to register births so maybe find out if that happens at yours??

alle glad you are doing ok and good luck with venturing out with Oscar

Right, on with more cooking I think...

pamelat · 10/05/2010 12:51

feel for you carikube. With DD around, I also want people around but as soon as I get time alone (like today with her at nursery) I need to be alone!!!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/05/2010 13:04

Hello all, hope you're doing ok. I'm exhausted today (probably not half as bad as those of you who've already popped!) after a really bad night with spd - I made the mistake of drinking a pint of squash just before bed, so every two hours I was woken up in absolutely crippling pelvic pain as my bladder was full, it'd take about ten minutes to turn over and get out of bed, and then I'd have a wee and feel a thump as her head bumped back down into place.

Walking like John Wayne today, my hips are in grinding pain and if I turn too fast I nearly scream because it feels for all the world like my leg is coming out of joint, can hear big audible clunks coming from my bones. Forgot how shit spd is at the end, how did I cope with 30 weeks of this last time??

And I've got loads of housework to do today, definitely NOT nesting now, I just want to rest/sleep but our landlord is coming tomorrow to sort out one of the meters "whether you're there or not, I have a key" so I'll have to get everywhere spic and span and pray I don't go into labour tonight as I don't want him having a bloody good nose around the house while I'm in hospital.

itshappenedagain · 10/05/2010 16:22

hello all!

Alle- glad your home and ejoying your lovely bunndle.

james hope you got the house sorted...i keep telling little one, just one more day, just one more day. but have managed to finish putting shelves up and sorting my bedroom so that i can have a quick wizz around the rest of the house tonight. and landlords are a pian in the ass...but that is a whole other story. hope ypu manage to get a better nights sleep tonight.

hope everyone else is feeling ok.
i cant beleive that im due tomorrow...nesting has gone into overdrive, dont think that there is anything in the house that hasnt been washed or cleaned and although im tired i cant sleep for more than a couple of hours at a time.

im booked in to have accupuncture tomorrow and some reflexology to promote labour...so we will have to see if it works or not...am hoping it does as it would be lovely to be holding baby in my arms at some point this week, plus lovely thepapy lady has managed every week to make mee feel so relaxed calm that im sure even that helps.

take care all

Hollyoaks · 10/05/2010 16:35

Carikube - rough day for you by the sounds of it

James - hope lo stays put until landlord has been but then comes quickly after that as spd sounds like a nightmare.

Itshappened - hope the acupuncture and reflexology work. I had a pedicure before having dd and had loads of contractions throughout. Not sure if it was because she was touching certain reflexology points or just because my feet are extremely tickly and it was torture.

Well just back from mw, everything seems to be ok apart from she had to measure me 5 times to work out the fundus height measurement. My normal mw had be half a cm behind over the last few weeks but her cover whilst she was on hols last week had me measuring to dates. My mw then had me measuring 33cm today when I should be 37cm. She couldn't understand why it had got smaller as lo is still 2/5ths engaged. So she was going to ring hospital and then decided to re-measure, this time she got me at 35cm though still smaller than at my last two appointments. She thinks the 2cm difference was because I was having a bh at her first attempt and my uterus was squashing down. Hope this is another sign lo is arriving very soon.

Hope all are well.

myfirstbump have sent your secret stork.

Matilda awake from her 7 pm feed until 4 in the morning. shattered. Need to get her weighed again but still no visit from health visitor, so I am sort of battling on alone and hoping she is ok

LuckyC I remember those long feeds well. Hope you are feeling ok, drinking enough etc etc. I used to find I was always dehydrated.

All, slow day on the thread. I have sat for solid 7.5 hours and made myself do my uni assignment. Its not due for a month but figured the next 4 weeks might be rather busy, its done, its submitted. I am now free to crack on and have this baby

Oh except my mum wants to go shopping tomorrow with me, my due date by hospital calculations , have of course agreed. It might be last opportunity for a year or so.

I sympathise with you Carikube - sounds like the sort of thing my MIL would do

MDM very at all your holidays! I'm sure you'll get along fine in Canada with LO in July

Feeling really tired and under the weather at the moment. LO's movements are causing me lots of discomfort (especially down below ) and back is aching constantly.

Have only managed to do 2 loads of washing, go for a swim then tidy a couple of kitchen drawers today but can't face doing anymore. Not even sure I'll manage pregnancy Yoga class tonight.

Don't expect I'm anywhere near as tired as you must be though LuckyC! Itshappened reflexology sounds like a good idea - might book myself a session for next week if LO hasn't arrived by then!
