MoggMum · 10/05/2010 17:02

Sorry pamelat cross posted! Well done on finishing your Uni assignment - must be a load off your mind. Enjoy your shopping trip - you never know it might bring on labour

30ish · 10/05/2010 17:09

Hi all.

Can't believe you can concentrate enough for a uni assignment Pamelat!

This will be my last post before cs tommorrow! Feels really odd being so organised this time. Bag is packed, house tidy, DD sorted and cupboards full!

Went to the hospital for a last blood test this morning so that they can match my blood group. Took DD with us as we also had a few last minute errands to run. She watched as the nurse took the blood, congratulated me for being a brave girl and then announced that she doesn't ever want a baby because they take blood! Very funny - especially a blood test is the least of everyone pregnant wmans worries!

Hope there are plenty more births over the next few days!

pamelat · 10/05/2010 17:11

Good luck 30ish and congrats in advance.

Cute DD mine saw my blood pressure being taken and got off her chair and came to try to drag my arm away from the "nasty lady"

alexw · 10/05/2010 17:13

Hi all just to let you know that having been admitted for induction last Thursday (waters broke last Tues) I waited around so much that went into labour spontaneously! Julia Maud was born on Thursday 6th weighing in at 7lb2oz. We are both ok and now home - they kept us in for monitoring as waters had broken so long before she was born (68 hours). Congratulations to other new arrivals! Everyone else, hang in there.

pamelat · 10/05/2010 17:17

Congrats alex on baby Julia another lovely name. You didn't know you were having a girl did you? I do now envy those that didn't find out.

Many congrats and glad you are home.

cupcakefairy · 10/05/2010 17:17

30ish good luck for tomorrow! How exciting

pamela congrats on finishing the uni assignment, you're well and truly ready now

james I winced just reading your post- eeeek! You poor love, really hope lo comes soon to ease that spd. I know that feeling of pelvic torture from a full bladder well!

A few have gone quiet! Squirt, Gils, lizzie, all at or past due dates now...do we have more babies??

First timers- I recommend the thread for new mums under discussions of the day; some great tips

cupcakefairy · 10/05/2010 17:19

Alex - congratulations on baby Julia

30ish - good luck for tomorrow

AnAngelWithin · 10/05/2010 18:05

alex congrats!!

Saw MW today. 38 weeks. Baby still free. Spoke to the midwife about the phone incident and the assault, shes put it on my file and going to complain. She said that it was awful. she'd heard about the assault at the time but didn't realise it was actually me involved, so she knows now anyway.

sorry for short, impersonal post, I am so tired, have overdone the cleaning today I think yes....I am admitting defeat!!!....

OP posts:
MarquiseDeMerteuil · 10/05/2010 18:37

Congratulations Alex! Angel - glad you got a sensible response from the midwife today, and that she has made a note on your file so that there are no further misunderstandings!

Cupcake - thanks for the tip about the new mums advice thread - have bookmarked it to check out again as it gets added to more. I hopefully checked out your suggestion that Registrars might come to the hospital to register births, but unfortunately our local council is abysmal, and they don't offer that service. We have to make an appointment to go to the town hall, and there is currently a 3 week wait!

Pamelat and ithappened - looks like we're all due tomorrow! Fingers crossed none of us has to wait too long. I definitely feel ready now. I have ordered some bits and pieces online, and just had various e-mails to say it's been despatched today and should arrive tomorrow. Got me thinking that it would be nice to get a similar e-mail to say when the baby would arrive! Hopefully sod's law will operate to mean that I miss the shopping delivery for a baby delivery!

James - your SPD sounds horrifically painful. I hope it goes as soon as the baby arrives.

Moggmum - it sounds to me like you've managed to achieve loads today! All I've done is go round to see a friend for lunch and do one load of washing.

Hollyoaks - the story of your m/w appointment today has only served to reinforce my conviction that fundal height measurement is a load of rubbish an inexact science.

Carikube - sorry to hear about your frustrating day. It would drive me mad if my MIL did that! I get annoyed enough that when she's staying, if she makes tea, she puts the used teabags in the sink instead of straight into the bin, so when she goes I have to clean the tea-stained sink , but on the plus side, I guess at least that means that she's making cups of tea! Hope you get your washing machine mended soon.

Haven't heard from Sassles, Schipo or Rachel today either and they're usually on here quite often... more birth announcements to come soon perhaps?

Carikube · 10/05/2010 18:45

Congratulations alex! Julia was definitely a name that I had on my shortlist, especially as it was my godmother's name who passed away two days after I found out I was pg with DD.

I'm surprised that there haven't been more birth announcements as there are still a lot of people to get through! Though I guess a lot of people might be busy doing other things rather than posting on MN if they've just had a baby

I'm 39+3 today which is when I went in to labour with DD so I was really hoping that today might be the day but I suppose it's a bit ridiculous to think it would happen on the same date twice....

schipo · 10/05/2010 18:57

Hello - catching up on lost days here so apologies for length of this:

Good to read another birth announcement. Well done to Alex. Sounds like it went relatively smoothly. Great that you got out quickly under the circumstances too. My DM keeps reminding me her waters broke 2 weeks early for my sister's birth and they both ended up in staying in hospital for 3 weeks because of an infection.

Another nice name too. I'm particularly pleased to see Maud being used. It was my grandmother's name and I'd be quite tempted to fit it in myself if I wasn't expecting a boy. She was a tower of strength.

angel - when do you ever rest?

LuckyC - I assume since you're able to bear witness to Matilda's wakefulness you didn't get any sleep either? Commiserations. I just read the thread for new mum's recommended by cupcake (thanks for that btw) and wonder if you tried white noise from radio? DH got very excited about playing the baby white noise (he actually makes his own) and I was horrified at the idea (worried about what it would do for my chances of sleeping tbh) but now I'm thinking I may have to back track on that I suppose you tried everything though. It's just nice to hang onto the idea there are nice neat solutions for as long as possible..

Actually I had a poor sleep too last night for some reason - poor by my recent standards anyway, nothing compared to Matilda's or yours probably James with SPD pain. I had about 4 loo breaks though and couldn't really get comfortable and sleep for any length of time, then woke up feeling a bit sick and have had period pain on/off ever since. But still there are 5 or 6 days until d-day for me, and I don't think there's anything of any significance happening really. Maybe just something in the air?

The baby is getting very active of an evening though like others have described and I'm getting curious to meet him. The house is pretty much ready. The bedroom blinds have even arrived 3 days earlier than expected. Any day now we'll be able to fully finish unpacking and assigning rooms to their final purposes.

Now I just have a bit of a pile of work to do for the office. You will be my inspiration Pamelat - concentration level here is not great so far. I should be working now but MN is suddenly very compelling . The work has arrived with terrible timing obviously but because I work for a company I partly own I can't really just turn my back on it. I'm slightly jealous of people who can just walk away for a year but I'm trying to look at it as a bit of a blessing that I can't. I fear if I hung up my interest in work completely for that long it would be pretty hard to recover at all. Partly why I didn't really arrange proper cover for myself I guess. I may yet live to regret that though...

Anyway, enough rambling, these are my questions:

Question 1: Does anyone here have experience of hiring anything like a 'mother's help' - someone a bit like a nanny or a home help that you can call on for a few hours a week sometimes? I suppose it would be a bit like a post natal doula who hangs around a bit longer? I guess most of you get help from MIL's / DM's but mine are in their 70's or far away or both so that's not really an option. Wondering if anyone has any relevant experience/advice? I'm thinking I'll soon need to call on someone to free me up to keep my hand in at work.

Question 2: I've put a medula breast bump in an online shopping basket, and some spare bottles and I see I have to order teats separately. They come in slow and medium flow types and I have no idea why I'd chose one or the other or if I'll need both? Can anyone advise? Also, if I get medula bottles will a Tommee Tippee steriliser be any use to me - or would I have to use TT bottles with that? I think I'll probably end up leaving all this for post natal shopping - it all seems so technical and expensive right now. Any help much appreciated though.

Looking forward to more news - and to making my own announcement soon.

memorylapse · 10/05/2010 19:11

many congratulations to Alex

can I just say another thanks to my secret stork..the sanctuary gift set has been invaluable..every night I have a relaxing bath, then afterwards put the body lotion on..Ive nearly run out of it all!
also Olivia wears the little cardis too..the white one was ideal as other cardis were too big for her

pigleychez · 10/05/2010 20:36

re holidays- We have ruled out a holiday this year with 2 under 2. Just dont think it would be much of a rest! Plus the amount of stuff we took on holiday with us for DD at 13mths was shocking... let alone with a little one!
DH has said we arent going abroad till the youngest is at least 2!

Carikube- Hope the washing machine gets fixed soon.

James- Sorry you are suffering at the mo.
Hope you have a better night tonight.

Happenedagain- Enjoy your reflexology.. its sounds lovely and fingers crossed it helps move things along.

Hollyoaks- Fundus height thing is just so inaccurate! I dont know why they do it as it just seems to cause so much stress with us mums!

Pamlet- Glad you got your Uni assignment done. Now you can relax!

30ish- Good luck for tomorrow! How excititng... looking forward to your announcement.
My DD loves listening to the babys heartbeat and beams when the MW gets the doppler out. She stands there bopping up and down saying boom boom boom.

Alex- Congratulations How funny it happening naturally anyway! Lovely name

Cupcake- I agree about others being quiet at the mo. Maybe we will have burst of announcements soon!

Angel- Glad things are better with the MW now and that things are getting sorted.

Schipo- Questions...1) No experience but a mothers help sounds lovely!
2) Teats are a tricky one. With DD she was painfully slow at drinking her milk so mw suggested moving to number 2 teats which was a better flow for her. But each baby is different.
sterliser- We had an Avent sterliser given to us from a friend for DD but used TT and Medula bottles in it.
This time we have a TT sterliser but will still use the Medula bottles in it too.

Busy day here.. Trip to Asda earlier to get a few bits... Ended up spending over £40.. Happens everytime! Bought DD a few items of clothing and got Baby a cute little romper suit.
Went out during DD's sleep and stained all the playhouse panels. Cant wait for it to go up at the weekend ( unless we are busy of course! )
Paying for it now though with bad backache.

DH is just getting me a drink so I can flop on the sofa and watch TV with a packet of Thorntons Toffeechocs - Yummy!

Hollyoaks · 10/05/2010 21:14

Evening

Had a mad ten minutes on fb and have requested everyone as friends, ignore if you want, hope I haven't missed anyone.

MDM/Pigley - thanks for the reassurance on fundal height, I know a few of us now seem to be stressed by it being too big or small for dates. Wonder how big this lo will be?

Angel - glad you got that of your chest with the mw, you must feel better.

Pamelat - well done on the uni essay, you inspired me too and I got some marking done which isn't due in till Wed. Pity I'v still got a PP presentation to prepare tomorrow night.

Hope everyone sleeps well or goes into labour, don't suppose you could manage both

kateyjane · 10/05/2010 21:37

Good evening everyone

Congratulations to Alex and alle - two more beautiful names! {smile]

This is my last post before induction tomorrow, I am so nervous it's silly. You would really think I'd be used to it now with number 4! I can't wait to find out whether the lo is a girl or a boy - have convinced myself that it is a girl and will be really shocked if it isn't! {grin]

Thank you to whoever put the tip about ringing earlier than the hospital told them too, I had never thought before that lots of ladies would also be ringing at 8am, so fully intend to ring a quarter to in the hope that they are not too busy!

30ish - hope your c-section goes really well, our lo's may well share a birthday

Wishing everyone a restful night's sleep. Good luck for anyone else who goes into labour tomorrow - there seems to be lots of babies due this week. Look forward to hearing all the news

alle01 · 10/05/2010 21:39

hi all
congrats alex, glad you're ok
nice midwife had to come 15 min before i was leaving for bf group, glad i asked that not to happened , so wait till thursday, bf going terribly wrong, no milk, besides mw saying i have plenty, can't even express it, so oscar on formula until i get this sorted out, hopefully ladies in bf group will help,...not giving up, no way, he will be breastfed, no matter what.
bit grumpy today, too much stress
you guys talking holidays?, i'll go visit family in spain in september, staying at home is easier, but i need a passport for oscar and paperwork looks like hell,...
hope you all ok and will get more babies,...

memorylapse · 10/05/2010 21:50

Kateyjane..best of luck for tomorrow..do you know..I was more nervous with number 5 than with the others..I think the more you have..you more you remember what you are letting yourself in for!..hoping you have a quick and easy labour, will soon be cuddling your LO and not itching

Alle..you poor thing..sounds like you are struggling..when you feed LO, does he make swallowing sounds and seem quite relaxed at the breast? if so then he is probably getting milk but sometimes it can be hard if not impossible to actually express..I know I had problems expressing in the first week..did you tell the midwife about it today?

alle01 · 10/05/2010 21:57

i think he swallows a bit, but he latches and stays put without sucking, long chat about it with the midwife today, didn't find it very helpful, she tells me to breast feed, then breast milk top up, then formula, nice theory, but reality is few minutes feed, or trying to, no milk to express, or can get it out, so bottle, i feel on test with the midwife, are you doing this? when will you get that?, like i can go into town for shopping, she seems more interested in the state of my carpet,... but she noted how tired and ill feeling i was the last few weeks of pregnancy, and i have been home two whole days now, so... i didn't have the time
sorry, rambling now

sweetkitty · 10/05/2010 22:08

hi everyone first update from us, Jacob still doing well he's like a little tango man with his jaundice bless him. He was up from 5am this morning I ended getting up with him and cuddling him on the sofa. Tried to sleep this afternoon but just couldn't. Just as well he is very cute. his wee cord stump looks nasty but the MW says it is fine, it absolutely stinks. She was in today rushed through everything in about 5 mins as if she was running late and desperate to get out then said she would be back Friday

kateyjane - I know how you are feeling I was in the same place last Monday, going in for the induction the next day like you number 4 and I was more nervous with this one that any of the others. You will be fine and come out the other end with a new baby, best of luck

hollyoaks - will add you on fb my pc is running awful slow just now

pigley - you are a crazy woman painting fence panels, we will need a pic of this playhouse. So feel for you re your Mum situation, know a bit how that feels. It's rubbish to be stressed about childcare on top of everything else. I wish we were closer you could drop DD off with me and she and DD3 could chase each other around. I think these things have a way of working themselves out though and your body won't let you go into labour until you are happy.

LuckyC - sounds about normal for a newborn sorry, you are doing fine, it's all abour survival the next few weeks. I have found that Jacob likes to be swaddled which is new for me the girls hated being wrapped up. He sleeps better wrapped in his shawl. Sounds like she has night and day mixed up too, you have to gently teach them that day is active time and night is sleeping time.

Schipo - on your questions 1) no experience ask on broader MN and I now wish I had hired a doula postnatally for a few weeks am utterly scared stiff about next week when DP goes back to work and 2) I had a Avent steriliser before and put medula bottles in it, I found the newborn teats enough to start with too.

James - oh you have my sympathies, I was just like you and the full bladder thing makes me wince oh and the grinding, I'm still having problems but it's not even been a week. Take it VERY easy and I hope the baby comes out soon for you

Alex - CONGRATULATIONS Julia is a lovely name

30ish - best of luck for your CS tomorrow, keep in your head new baby new baby new baby (can you tell I am welled up on new baby hormones )

Sorry to anyone else I have missed there is SO much to catch up on, am sending speedy labour vibes to all you ladies still waiting, in pain and discomfort.

Gils · 10/05/2010 22:25

Hey all no baby yet.

Congrats Alex and good luck to those doing in tomorrow.

Due date today, had midwife and sweep today. She was actually able to move the baby about with her fingers. Very strange. Booked in to be induced on 20th. Thinks I have siatica and baby may be back to back. Also told her right boob is agony.

DH took us through to Glasgow. Got his phone fixed and took us out for lunch. I thought walk would help but nothing appears to be happening. Midwife didn't exactly fill me with confidence it would be soon.

Having terrible night, so sick of phonecalls/texts etc asking how I am, any movements etc. Was playing a game on DH phone and his mate text asking same - last straw!!!! About read to smash all the phones in house arghhhh! Its knowing DH will be heading back to work on Friday too. Midwife recommended pineapple, hot curry and hot sex. So tons of walking today, ate loads of pineapple and hot curry. If anything feel too sick to DTD.

Away to make bed and collapse, had very little sleep last night

wibblela · 10/05/2010 22:26

Congrats Alexw and Alle - what gorgeous names

CONGRATULATIONS alex! and good luck tomorrow 30ish...

Haven't got much in the way of news here. Think i've had a show today- does it come out in one go or in blobs? (sorry if TMI!). I have felt a little strange today, hoping things are moving but not due until next Monday so not holding my breath! Baby didn't move all morning, but has been reasonably active this evening and this afternoon. Getting a few pains in my lower abdomen now when baby moves a lot so hopefully it is now engaged.

Can't remember who was saying about hot flushes- I am roasting! It's ridiculous, especially at night. As if sleeping wasn't hard enough with loo trips and a very naughty cat. She woke us at 5am attacking our feet. I got up to feed her and she left me alone after that.

Anyways, hope to hear more news from you lot with due dates and inductions tomorrow. Good luck!
