try not to worry about fundal mesaurements..I always measured 5 weeks ahead and she was 6lb 11!

30ish · 07/05/2010 07:52

Alle - congratulations, Oscar is a really lovely name!

Whoever mentioned blackout curtains and getting up at 5.30am - SNAP! Since being on ml, dd hasn't slept past 6am! As soon as she realises it's light, she thinks it's time to get up! This is with both blackout blind and heavy duty, blackout curtains! Dreading night feeds through the summer - DD will be up at the crack of dawn if the baby wakes her!

Gils · 07/05/2010 08:15

Congrats MBM and ALLE. Good luck to those getting induced today.

Brain hasn't quite switched on this morning. DD was in with me last night. Running high temp, bad cough etc. How can someone so small take up so much room!! Very little sleep for either of us and lo was very active too. Few BH, did think of phoning DH at one point.

Rachel and KateyJane - DD is exactly the same. Very clingy. Although toilet taining went very well just after Xmas it has started to unravel now. Def thinks its the thought of new arrival.

Sorry no other personals. Just logged on for news of births

Carikube · 07/05/2010 08:53

Congrats alle and mustbemad! Rachel I'm in the same boat - MIL arrived yesterday so as far as I'm concerned, LO can turn up as soon as it wants now. Of course, this means that I now feel more sprightly than I have for weeks, no pains etc and no signs of anything happening anytime soon. 39 weeks today....

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 07/05/2010 09:00

Morning all!

Congratulations Mustbemad and Alle! More great name choices!! MBM - sounds like a wonderful birth, and Alle you must be so relieved to finally be holding Oscar in your arms after your weeks of on/off contractions.

Good luck today Heffa - looking forward to reading the birth announcement later!

Hollyoaks - very impressed that you're still working. When do you finish?

Hobnob - good luck with the scan today.

James - hope you had a better night's sleep last night and that you're feeling better today.

Rachel - about your MIL arriving today - sounds like you've been looking forward to it for a while, am impressed that you get on so well!

Cupcake and kaffa - Good idea on doing soup, I hadn't thought of that, (although DH doesn't think soup is a 'proper meal'!). I've done: heaps of bolognese too; Delia's chicken paprika casserole; a tomato, pancetta and wild mushroom pasta sauce (known as 'special spaghetti' in my family!); and the beginnings of a chicken and broccoli bake. I don't have room in my freezer (or enough dishes!) to make all the bakes up in advance, so I just freeze portions of the separate parts in freezer bags to be defrosted then quickly assembled in the dish by DH when we're ready to eat them. Today I might do a couple of portions of white sauce so that we have the option of turning some of the bolognese sauce into a lasagne. I think my freezer will then be well and truly full!

CONGRATULATIONS Mustbemad and Alle!!

Good luck everyone else

An angel , I would try to not worry about what they have said. I Had a similar thing after the birth with DD where midwife said that my DH seemed wonderful practically but queried whether he gave me any emotional support?

Having AWFUL morning with DD and cant cope, been in tears twice. She is being horrid. She has bitten me twice, never having done that before and is just screaming and being generally awful. I always try to not cry in front of her but cant cope today.

sweetkitty · 07/05/2010 09:57

Two new babies how exciting

mustbemadno3 - congratulations, you were a few minutes behind me, Jacob has a twin now you had 2 boys already is that right?

Alle - congratulations to you too, Oscar is a lovely name as well

MDM - that's good news about the weight, one less thing to worry about

Carikube - glad you got to MIL coming over I know you wanted that before LO made an appearance

Heffa - just wanted to say best of luck for today hope it all goes well and you soon have a baby to cuddle

Rachel - will keep fingers crossed for you you go soon too end of pregnancy is just so miserable

James - oh really feel for you, you sound like me, you can take some painkillers I know you don't want to in pregnancy but a couple now won't hurt and help you out a bit

pigley - I wrote out some lists for SIL, she was a bit hopeless really bless her. I think the big two played up at bedtime and luckily I was able to send DP home after Jacob was born so he could help out with the breakfast and take DD1 to school. I think it's just a case of SIL doesn't really know their routine, she gave DD3 an adult bowl of Cheerio's with loads of milk and DD3 made a puddle with them, she also got DD1 and 2's jeans mixed up so DD1 went to school with jeans flapping round her calves (it was a non uniform day) and DD2's were falling down and scrapping on the ground but poor SIL she did fine and luckily she was there.

angel - don't know what to say I would ask to see MW and sit down and be really honest with her and say "look I am not a battered woman, this is what happened!" I think they are supertrained to look out for DV and the amount of posters in the hospitals for help lines too!

As for me things fine here, bit of a rough night, spent it feeding and watching the election results come in, am hoping my milk comes in today and he's a bit more settled. Had first MW home visit yesterday, Jacob pooed meconium all over her it was that useless one who did my sweep the other day. I'm still quite sore downstairs, been having tea tree and lavender baths though and another tip is try and make your first poo afterwards as soft as possible I ate a loads of fruit yesterday and it wasn't pleasant but I remember one of the times it being really sore and horrid and I ended up with piles. This birth thing is so glam isn't it?

pigleychez · 07/05/2010 10:06

Congratulations Alle Oscar is a fab name. Thanks for updating us Mr Alle

James- Im another one with a horrible bad back this morning. DH rang me when he got to work this morning to make sure I was ok as he could see I was in pain.

Rachel- DD is another one who seems to be wide awake at 6am lately. Its a killer!
She too has black out blinds and curtains. Thankfully she will happily lay there in bed for about 30 mins chatting away to herself before making a fuss.

DH pointed out this morning though that once baby is here 6am will just be another number on the clock! [yawn]

Heffa- Good luck for today! How exciting. Cant wait for your announcement!

Pamlet- Sorry to hear you and DD are having a bad day. Dont you just hate days when they are like that. Hope your day improves.

SK- Well done Jacob for pooing on the MW

Question for expereinced mums.- My labour with DD started with my waters breaking then contractions. No BH or contractions before the waters breaking.
Again ive not really experienced many BH's and kind of expecting my waters to break again first. Do labours usually follow to same sort of patterns or just random?

Woken today with a horrible back ache and currently have a stomach ache. Not BH but a really grumbly tummy. Feel abit pants really.

KaffaCakes · 07/05/2010 10:07

Many congratulations to MustBeMad and Alle it's fab to hear your news! Alle, sounds like you were a real trooper, well done.

Good luck with the CS today Heffa and with the sweeps KateyJane and Wibbela. Hope to hear all of your news very soon!

To be honest I am pretty sceptical about this business of 'no shaving'. My maternity unit is super paranoid about infection- only my DP is allowed to visit, no other visitors at all are allowed in except for your other children. No bears or flowers either. It seems crazy when the maternity unit is the only part of St. John's still open- it's moving in a few months so no maintenence is being carried out and the rest of the knackered old hospital has been closed for years. It doesn't fill one with confidence and good feelings when you rock up to the maternity ward, I can tell you.

MDM hope you're right about the small head! I have a small head too but my DP's is MASSIVE! Hope baby inherits mine . Have you bought the Paperchase Baby Journal? I have no idea what to fill it with besides lists. I am not a big journal writer, despite being a journalist!

Angel and Hobnob sorry to hear your MW appts didn't go too well, keep us updated with all your news today.

I have a MW appt at the ante-natal clinic at the hospital today, hope to hear that LO is engaged, it feels SO low. Can barely lean forwards and the muscles are straining under all the extra weight of the bump. My poor stretched little body! I find I wake up with terrible muscle pain in my abdomen when I turn over in the night (rather when DP drags me on to my side, I need a heavy-duty winch).

Just watching the election results unfold this morning. Essex is true blue as usual, hope this new government doesn't affect the SureStart centres and child tax credits.

cupcakefairy · 07/05/2010 11:04

Morning girls, just a quick good luck to heffa for today! Looking forward to hearing the news

Congratulations alle and mustbemad! Fab names too.

Carikube · 07/05/2010 11:11

Pigley I'm in the same situation as you as with DD my waters went, then I had a show and then the contractions started a few hours later. I didn't have any BH beforehand or anything. I tried asking my antenatal teacher whether things were likely to follow the same pattern this time. She didn't really answer the question though as she thought I meant the whole labour so spent her time reassuring me that just because I had intervention last time it didn't mean that it would happen this time. So no, I don't know the answer to your question but I'd quite like it to start the same way again so that I know what's happening!

Good luck Heffa for today...

memorylapse · 07/05/2010 11:15

quick post..good luck to those have c sections, sweeps etc..Im sorry Im so blimmin tired I cant remember who is having what...spent the night feeding and watching the election results..think Olivia is having a growth spurt..I fear my boobs may drop off

hormonalmum · 07/05/2010 11:57

Congrats to all who have had recent arrivals.

I am pleased to say that I can add myself to the recent arrival list!
Our dd was born at home on the evening of 4th May after a 1 hour 30 minute labour.
Dh delivered her as midwife didnt make it in time. Paramedic and mw arrived after about 10 minutes.
Unfortunately I had to transfer to the hospital as I kept passing out - low bp and probably the shock of such a fast labour.
No name as yet.

DD1 not sure about her but DS constantly wanting to cuddle her.

Slowly adjusting to life with 3!

Good luck to others

LuckyC · 07/05/2010 11:57

COINGRATS FIVE, MBM anbd ALLE!

Pregnant ladies you are all doing brilliantly, hang in there. As you can see I only have time to read the last page, but BLOODY HELL Angel, talk about nosy interfering NHS assuming the worst.

all you nesters please come and clean my house and cook me some food (wishful face)have not yet cooked a meal, and did not stock freezer as she was early.

So, yesterday Matilda spent six hours nursing.

Yes, six hours.

New record.

No wonder I do not have time to cook.

More babies please!

memorylapse · 07/05/2010 12:10

Congrats Hormonalmum..and wow well done to your DH!..I can remember when I was expecting DS1 my friend was also expecting and she too delivered at home with her partner in attendance..paramedics arrived five mins later to find her cuddling her newborn son on the sofa..glad that you are all ok..

TomlinTowers · 07/05/2010 12:12

Hi All

Many congrats to Mustbemad and Alle - so pleased to hear your news. Lovely names again!

Mustbemad - we named DS1 for DH's Dad who passed away when DH was 18 - it is lovely to keep special family names going, I think. Although if this LO is a DD (as predicted on scan) then she will not be having any family girl names - we have Dorothy, Ethel, Irene, and Gwendoline to choose from through our grandmothers - eek to all of them, except perhaps Gwendoline as a middle name!! And both our mothers are called Pam, which is confusing enough already! So no family names for this LO!

Heffa -good luck for today, looking forward to reading your good news soon!

AnAngel - a bit at your MW. I can understand if you were regularly in A & E with suspected fractures or turning up with unexplained bruising that it might raise a red flag and then the MW would be right to question you, but to question you in such depth after one scan seems a bit OTT. I guess all health professionals are just on higher alert after all the scandals with children and missed injuries that turned out to be abuse. I have to say I have never ben asked about DV at all, and DH was with me for both my booking in appts, so it must be different policies depending on which area you live in. Anyways, I agree with MDM that it would be best to raise this with your MW on your own so that there is no suspicion of any pressure from your DH, and then make sure it is written into your notes so you don't have any further issues.

ML - I remember the growth spurts. You think you've just got into a routine and then wham it all goes out of the window and you are back to being a milking machine again! Good luck!

LuckyC - did any of the washing tips work?

Carikube/Pigley - I have no idea if second labours are the same to start with. I only have 2 or 3 friends in RL who have had second children, and they all seemed to be different tbh. One friend was 40 + 6 with her first, 4.5 hours from start to finish, and her second came at 38 + 6, over 12 hours labour. Another had to be induced both times, but first one had to have the drip, second one worked with the pessary. I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to it. With mine, my waters went and 39 + 3 and then had to be induced 24 hours later as no hint of a contraction. With this LO, loads of BHs, stabbing pains etc but no signs of waters breaking (and am frantically knicker checking!). Just hope I start off naturally this time, although tbh my induction wasn't bad at all. Only needed the forceps at the end because DS1 had cord round his neck and that would have happened induction or not.

Pamelat - hope your day improves. I had shouted at DS1 4 times by the time we got downstairs for breakfast today but he just kept waiting til my back was turned and then doing something he knows is naughty, like emptying out my entire bedside drawer. Of course, when my lovely Mum arrived to take him out for the morning to give me a rest, he was little angel! Always the way!

Nothing new here except that LO has seemingly stopped having any rest at all and is just kicking all the time. I think it has forgotten the proper way out and is trying to come out through the front like something out of Alien. Am 39 weeks today and would really like to have baby here before 40 weeks if at all possible! MW appt on monday so going to ask her what the policy is on sweeps etc as have had no info at all on when I can expect to be referred for anything and I would like to have time to prepare DS1 for me going into hospital.

Also spent far too long this morning watching election coverage - we have gone from yellow to blue, and it seems that the whole of North Yorks has turned blue apart from City of York which is still red. Must have proper preg brain as I cannot understand all this stuff about a hung parliament - I think I am going to vote for David Dimbleby to be the PM instead!

Hi to everyone else and good luck to all those with scans/sweeps/etc and to anyone I've missed - looking forward to hearing more news shortly.

Congratulations hormonalmum! Sounds like a manic labour, but glad you're OK and sounds like DH did a grand job!

TomlinTowers · 07/05/2010 12:15

x post hormonalmum - well done to you and your DH - that will be a story to tell at her wedding!! Did you have anyone on the end of the phone talking you through it, or did your DH just know what to do? Many congrats anyway!!

LuckyC - takeaways are very nutritious, as are ready meals. And everyone who visits will be so smitten with Matilda that they will not be looking at the tidiness of your house! And in my opinion, if they do, then they are not worth inviting back!!

pigleychez · 07/05/2010 12:36

Hormonalmum- Congratulations! That all sounds pretty fast and furious! Well done DH for delivering her
Let us know when you decide on a name

Carikube- Ive started a thread about it under childbirth to find out others experiences.

Lucky- I agree with Tomlin- Thats what Takeaways are for!

Have done nowt all morning apart from one load of washing and play musical instruments with DD so really do need to do something productive this afternoon!

booboomonster · 07/05/2010 13:02

mustbemad and alle - many congratulations to you both, lovely news! Mustbemad - is 5 your lucky number? If not, it should be!

And just seen your announcement, hormonal congratulations! Hope you are feeling ok - well done! and well done DH!

heffa probably too late, but good luck!

Angel I?m shocked that the midwife would make that assumption about something that happened a while back, but perhaps they are being super cautious. Try not to take it personally, and set them straight for good when you feel more relaxed about it. Like others say - I guess it is good they are aware of these things.

pamela my sympathies with DD - they do go through mood swings don?t they? Mine was, I swear, acting like a teenager the other day - repeating everything I said (and I was telling her off) I found myself getting really angry and irritated! To be honest sometimes I think it?s ok if you cry - at least they see the consequences of their actions. I guess just as long as you don?t cry all the time - which obviously you don?t!

Impressed with those of you freezing food etc - I haven?t started that yet though do have the same problem as MDM - small freezer. I have also recently stocked up on fish fingers for DD which takes up a fair bit of room. I think my mum has offered to make lasagnes so I will have to take her up on that once they get back from France where they are on hols.

Also think we have had a breakthrough with potty training - at least with wees - no accidents yesterday! Still needs to get hang of poos? will be interesting to see how she has got on today at nursery without me.

Sorry only just caught up - had election fever (we?re a house of journalists) so stayed up late watching coverage. Luckily DD in nursery today but DH still out covering election (all night so actually I got a good sleep alone in the bed!) and he has the car so had to walk 3 miles to nursery and back! Still, good bit of exercise and I feel amazingly energetic! Cinema this afternoon I think. Hope everyone is well.

rachelfruitloop · 07/05/2010 13:40

CONGRATULATIONS Hormonalmum! Well done to you and your DH for delivering her! Amazing! Hope you're feeling better now.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 07/05/2010 13:40

Congrats hormonalmum, glad you're both doing well, impressed at your hubby staying calm enough to deliver you! You both deserve a glass of bubbly for that.

Trying not to overdo things today, ds is at nursery for a couple of hours and I planned on resting but he's utterly trashed the house, the washing and dishwasher need doing, I was going to do some batch cooking for the freezer (inspired by you lot being all industrious!) and I must root out my old feeding bras/muslins and the nightie I plan on labouring in.

Can't seem to get any of that done while ds is here as he gets bored and bored = trouble! Oh well, it's only going to get worse in that respect when I'm torn yet another way!

At least the sun is out again.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 07/05/2010 14:12

hormonal - Congratulations , what a fantastic story. I'm not sure how my DH would cope with that scenario. I think he would probably be quite good, but it's the kind of thing you never know until you're in the thick of it!

booboo - election fever here too! Stayed up quite late watching results come in but fell asleep at about 1.30. Glad I didn't wait up for our constituency, as it didn't declare until about 8am in the end.

I have had a very lazy morning sitting up in bed watching the election coverage and sewing a patchwork quilt for the moses basket! Have just dragged myself to have a shower and wash my hair, so just need to get dressed, have lunch and then might venture out to the shops. Am making the most of my time being my own before the LO arrives and dictates how my day goes!

LuckyC - 6 hours nursing !

SK - lol at Jacob pebbledashing the rubbish midwife! He obviously has a sense of karma.

Kaffa - I haven't bought the baby journal, despite picking it up a couple of times. I know I would probably write in it obsessively for about 3 days and then forget about it altogether!

sweetkitty · 07/05/2010 15:02

hormonalmum - wow congratulations and well done to both you and your DH

Have just read on FB that Heffa had a little boy called Corin this morning will let her fill in the details

Second births - my waters started trickling with my first then I had a show then contractions. Second time started with contractions waters had to be broken by MW just before she was born. Half the time too. I think it's better and faster if your waters go first.

Better go boy wants fed.
