OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/05/2010 15:53

Aaw angel, try not to get too stressed out about this, it shouldn't affect your homebirth. Could you meet with the mw's and your dh, and just reassure everyone that you're fine and there's nothing to worry about? I'm sure a woman who was genuinely being battered would be scared to arrange such a meetup! As there's nothing on file with the SS or your hv then really it was a bit of a leap to assume the head injury was a result of domestic violence, and it should be easily resolved. Can they see the police report or anything, assuming you filed one?

TinyVeins · 06/05/2010 16:37

Angel - I'm really sorry the MW was so insensitive, hopefully you can get thing straightened out.

I'm been filling the freezer too Cupcake and have added a sausage and cannellini bean stew and Nigella's chicken cacciatore. Oh, and some fresh pasta, pizza and homemade cake!

Have packed some make-up in my hospital bag as sans mascara I don't seem to have eyes... Have already had my pre-baby haircut and bikini wax (such an understanding beautician). Contemplated a spray tan too but thought it a step too far! Not heard the one about not shaving in case of c-section. Having just managed to wax my legs I was planning on a quick once-over with the razor to tidy things up.

Happy birthday for tomorrow Moggmum.

My freckles seem to have multiplied too James and 30ish and I've acquired a whole lot of news ones on the backs of my hands and around my elbows . Will they go once the LO arrives?

Am 39 weeks today and getting impatient! LO is still moving a lot and BH are getting stronger but still random, maybe 6-8 a day? Didn't have my usual MW at the 38 week appointment and the cover MW didn't say anything about how engaged the LO is. Bump is definitely lower though, walking is getting more like waddling (so impressed with your 4 mile round trip to Tesco Squirt) and there's plenty of pressure downstairs so hopefully she's getting ready. Sounds like there's a lot of us in the same state!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 06/05/2010 17:06

Angel - sorry your MW has made you feel so rubbish Hope you can make it clear that it's not your DH, it's pretty bad that they've just assumed that.

MDM - glad your DNiece is doing well

Kaffa - sounds like odd advice about not shaving? I'm going to be shaved tomorrow for the CS and MW told me I could do it myself if I wanted (no chance, can't even see down there any more).

Paperchase is one of my favourite shops as well, don't have one near me anymore though

Have been getting a bit obsessed with tidying up the house today ready for tomorrow. Not sure why since it will still be a tip by the time I get home

AnAngelWithin · 06/05/2010 17:27

Heffa good luck for tomorrow

james im not allowed a homebirth anyway

I WILL be bringing it up with my midwife on monday!

OP posts:
30ish · 06/05/2010 17:39

Tinyveins i hope they do go! It's a bit much having more age/liver spots than my dear grandma (85 years)!

Hobnobfanatic · 06/05/2010 17:54

Quick 'me' post: come back in tears from the midwife. I'm due tomorrow and at the appt today she's only just said she's worried that it's a very big baby and has arranged a growth scan at the hospital for tomorrow. I've been huge for ages - and they didn't even measure me at the last appt. I'm now 44cm fundus...

She thinks, what with the SPD, they might want to induce, but I'd hate that. All the inductions I've known have involved long, protracted labours...

EVeryone keeps speculating that I've a 10lb-er and I'm suddenly panicking big time.

Angel - sorry your midwife upset you so much. I guess they have to be thorough - a friend was the victim of DV and was pregnant with his child. She was too scared to say anything and wishes her mw and health visitor had spotted signs that she was in trouble and offered her a hand to pull her out of the situation...

pigleychez · 06/05/2010 18:06

MDM- Sounds like you have been keeping busy.
Im a list maker too. Ive just finished a list of peoples phone numbers and writting out DD's routine along with where everything is so that when my mum comes she has everything to hand and knows where things are.
Not really necessary as i know she would cope and DD would be fine but it makes me feel happier.

Angel- Good idea about the vouchers... Why didn I think of that! Doh!
That was abit insensitive of the MW. I know when we have our booking in appointments we have to go in for 5 minutes without DH/DP and answer questions about any voilence in the family. Really shocked me the first time. Maybe DH could come with you to your next appointment.

Tinyveins- With you on the feeling impatient now.

Heffa- House is never tidy with a toddler is it! Are you nervous about tomorrow or just excited?

Kaffa- Ive never heard that advice either ?!?

Hobnob- Hope the scan proves her wrong tomorrow. Ive just been told mines big too, but they are only estimates.

Saw the stand in MW today, which thankfully went well. She picked up on the sugar levels and my BP was high again, but after explaining everything, she was fine with it all.
Measuring 40 weeks at 38, but thats no suprise. Commented upon feeling that its a big baby. Estimated about 9lb 7 ! Hoping shes wrong on that one!

Just walked down to the local school to vote... Had to keep telling DH to slow down as i couldnt keep up!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 06/05/2010 18:43

Angel - at comments from midwife at hospital. I do echo what Hobnob said though. Although it feels to you like she was incredibly insensitive, it really is better all-round that they err on the side of caution, to make sure they give people who are genuinely the victims of domestic violence every opportunity possible to speak out about it. I wouldn't take your DH to your next appointment, but rather go alone and put them straight. Taking your DH could potentially reinforce their suspicion by making them suspect he was there to influence what you say.

Tinyveins - lol at spray tan! I have to admit that it did cross my mind too, but knowing my luck the LO will decide to arrive 3 days afterwards when it's looking way past its best and particularly streaky! So I ruled it out.

Hobnob - good luck for the growth scan tomorrow. Please try not to worry too much in the meantime. The fundal height measurements are notoriously unreliable - you could just have loads of amniotic fluid or a big placenta. The growth scan will give a more accurate picture.

Just back from my follow-up growth scan. It seems that DH's prescription of ben&jerrys ice cream, pizza and chocolate brownies (healthy diet!) has worked a treat, and LO has grown loads in the two weeks since my first growth scan. Last time it was on the 3rd centile and estimated at 5lb3.9, but today it was hovering just below the 50centile line, and estimated at 6lb6. Hooray! Still has quite a small head though, but then so do I (I have to buy children's hats!).

Pigley - glad your stand-in midwife was sensible and listened to your explanations!

Very jealous of those with grandparents still around. Neither DH or I have any left .

mustbemadno3 · 06/05/2010 20:42

memorylapse · 06/05/2010 20:52

Hobnobfanatic · 06/05/2010 20:56

Congratulations, MUstbemad - beautiful name! And how lovely to be 5/5 at 5.05!
Well done on the tens machine front, too - wow!
So delighted for you!

MoggMum · 06/05/2010 21:02

Congrats mustbemad sounds like you did really well with just tens machine and no stiches & then feeding too! Hope you get some rest whilst in Hospital. Lovely name

30ish · 06/05/2010 21:04

Congratulations Mustbemad! Wonderful news!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 06/05/2010 21:18

Congratulations Mustbemad!! Gorgeous names Sounds like a lovely experience Hope you get some rest soon!

Pigley - just very excited A bit nervous, but more about leaving DD than anything else.

Hobnob - sorry your MW has panicked you, I hope everything's OK.

Hollyoaks · 06/05/2010 21:49

Mustbemad - congratulations, lovely names and a lovely birth experience overall.

Heffa - good luck for tomorrow.

MDM - at the small head, dd had a huge head when she was born

Hobnob - good luck with the growth scan tomorrow

Pigley - hope mw was wrong about size though sil had a 9lb 7oz ds and said he was much easier to have than his 7lb7oz sister.

Angel - thanks for the hint on vouchers too, we were having the same dilemma as pigley unless this one is a boy. Sorry you mw was so insensitive, it was a bit of a jump from assault to dv.

ML - nice to hear Olivia is putting on weight nicely, she's exactly the weight dd was when she was born

Well not much to report here, still in quite a lot of pain and uncomfort and now to add to it my bump is numb at the top . Also, sorry if tmi but discharge has become slightly darker in colour, perhaps slightly pinkish. Wonder if this could be the start of the plug coming away. Still struggling at work, very of all of those on ml, is anyone still working but me?

pigleychez · 06/05/2010 22:05

MDM- Glad the gorwth scan went well. That "Healthy Diet" sounds fab to me
Small heads are always good!

Mustbemad- Congratulations Beautiful names. Fab birthday all the 5's!
Hope you are both well

Scoffed an intire tube of pringles tonight I just cant seem to eat enough at the mo!

schipo · 06/05/2010 22:41

another busy day on the thread I see:

mustbemad - congratulations!

hollyoaks - sympathies here re work. I'm still supposed to be doing a day a week finding that hard to even think about.

moggmum - hope you have a great birthday tomorrow

heffa - will be thinking of you tomorrow

isn't there someone else wit a planned delivery tomorrow?

hobnob - good luck for your scan
pleased the concerns over your bump's growth are properly over now MDM

angel - sympathies re mix up re your medical records - I hope that wasn't one of the reasons they refused you a hb!

I'm exhausted today for some reason. I thought my labour was starting tbh. I couldn't get through this afternoon without an extra nap (which i've heard can be a sign), then on my way to yoga class I was getting cramps that stopped me in my tracks - quite regularly every few minutes for more than half an hour. Ploughed on in the end and everything subsided in the class. Anyway, glad it was a false alarm - could still do with another week.

best wishes to everyone

alle01 · 06/05/2010 23:00

Hi All,

I'm Alle's DH, Our little lovely son Oscar was born today's morning at 12.20

We when to the labour ward at 02:00 on wednesday, because if was overdue on 6 days and the cervix was still close, even so she had long painful contractions they decided to induce her, after 2 try outs with the pill finally labour managed to kick in, but after 27 hours non sleep the cervix only opened 4cm and exhaustion kick in, and she had to cancel her dream of giving birth on the pool , they administrated the epidural and after another 7 hours and a little help of suction from the doctor, finally she gave birth to our wonderful son evading C-section for minutes as baby and her were exhausted for final pushes. I'm sure she'll be glad to answer any questions you may had when she come back from Hospital, Just a big thank you to everyone in this thread and ggod luck to everyone who are expecting babies very soon.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/05/2010 23:01

Congrats mdm! Lovely names, so the tens really helped then? quite of your birth.

Angel sorry I got a bit mixed up I thought she was saying you'd have to have a hospital birth because of suspected dv. Ignore me, I'm tired! Hope you get it sorted out.

I walked round town for a couple of hours earlier and when I got home I started with contractions. Felt really exhausted and irritable and my tummy felt weird so I was wondering if it was anything starting but it seems to have tailed off now. Last time I had days of this followed by losing what was unmistakably my plug so hopefully that will happen again and give me an inkling.

My back is really painful today, spd getting worse, I think I need to stop walking into town full stop really. Last night I was stuck on my back in bed, there was just no way I could move, eventually dp woke up and asked if I was ok (a miracle as he's a really heavy sleeper!) and helped me to turn over. I felt like my hips were literally going to come out of joint if I moved, and I can feel bones clunking over each other when I turn over, it's horrible.

Off to bed now, I'm exhausted, hope you're all ok! x

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/05/2010 23:03

Cross posted with alle's dh - congratulations to you both! sounds like a frustrating time but she did very well.

memorylapse · 06/05/2010 23:22

congratulations Alle and Dh

rachelfruitloop · 06/05/2010 23:23

Hi Ladies!
There has been a lot of activity to respond to! Apologies in advance for yet another long post!

CONGRATULATIONS Mustbemad and Alle that is brilliant news about the birth of your little girl and boy! Well done both of you!!!!! Fantastic names as well!

Wonder how Alex is getting on, she was being induced today wasn't she?!

Heffa GOOD LUCK and I'll be thinking of you tomorrow! Can't wait to hear how the CS goes and all about your LO!!!! HOW EXCITING! Hopefully you won't have to stay in too long and you and your DD can be reunited quickly. I'm also anxious about being apart from DS, he's quite the Mummy's boy!

AnAngel so sorry that the midwife upset you like that! In my notes it says that my husband was present and so I couldn't answer the question about domestic violence, I was a bit surprised by that! I agree with MDM that perhaps you should set them straight without DH being present so they know you're not being "pressured".

Itshappened so glad to hear that the exam went well! Don't strain yourself rearranging furniture!

MDM you have been busy!!! Glad you're doing lots to keep busy, and that you were finally offered a seat on the train! I found the Baby On Board badges are useless, people pretend not to read! Thanks for the inside info on your DSis's experience at Stoke Mandeville, that is very reassuring! about your baby's small head!

Pigley LOL about your DD turning into Kevin from Kevin & Perry! My son does this thing where he exhales dramatically and throws his head down and then walks around with his chin on his chest and arms dangling by his sides - super mope!

Good to hear from you Slipperthief, Kaffacakes, Wibblela and Tinyveins!

KatnKankles hope your MW appointment goes well tomorrow. Wibblela, Squirtsmum and KateyJane hope the sweeps go well and get things going!

BRB sounds like your breastfeeding is going really well, that's wonderful! Gives me hope that second time around will be easier than the first time!

SK your birth story is brilliant! Thanks so much for writing it for us, I am very pleased to read about it!

Hollyoaks so glad your MW was more reassuring than your GP was and that all seems fine with your BP and the baby! you're still working!

Pamelat glad to hear that baby is still head down! Measurements are so notoriously inconsistent, I find that very annoying. I wish they could tell us definitely about the size of the baby! Hope you can relax a bit in the next week! Though I know what it's like with a LO to chase around!

KateyJane My DS seems to be extra clingy with me, wanting to get up in the night, kick DH out of bed and cuddle with me! We don't allow it, but it does make me sad as I think he can sense that change is afoot big time! Just waiting for the soiled trousers and pants to start appearing again!

James sorry that you're suffering so much with the SPD, hope you get some rest tonight. I got a really puffy face after having my DS as well, I look at those photos and cringe! Itshappened I was also chalk white until my blood transfusion on day 3! I've packed a bit of makeup this time round, I figure at least my pasty, puffy face can have rosy cheeks and a bit of lippy!

Hobnob so sorry your MW visit has left you feeling uneasy about the size of the baby. Like MDM said, keep in mind that fundus height measurements are notoriously inaccurate. I hope the scan goes well. I feel for you, as I'm being told my baby will be a 10-lber as well and I am afraid that I'll be pressured to have an induction if I go to the due date. I really want to avoid being induced if I can, too.

Pigley I measured 42 today at 38 weeks! Like I said above, I don't put any importance on the fundus height, measured bang on for my dates all through with DS was told he was average sized and he was nearly 10 lbs. I think they just guess! Also, I am being reassured that I should be able to push out a big baby with no problem, so I imagine that would be the case for you if it's on the large size. I think a large head is most difficult, the weight just follows!

Despite the fact that I finished the blackout curtains for DS's bedroom and DH and I hung them yesterday, DS woke up at 5:30 this morning! I was feeling some cramping first thing this morning but I'm unsure whether or not it was uterine or intestine (damn iron tablets constipating me again!) I went to get a new nursing bra today, walking around the shopping centre really wore me out, my thighs went completely numb! Had MW appointment at 2:40 but had to pick DS up from pre-school at 3:15, showed up an hour early hoping she could see me earlier but she was running late, I was getting stressed. Luckily, they accidentally double booked my appointment slot and so I said I'd go and come back at the end of the day to see MW! Ordinarily that situation would have really irritated me but it worked out well. Had to bring DS with me when I went back but he was very well behaved and so excited to hear the baby's heartbeat. Apparently LO is a bit (4/5) engaged now and she expects he'll be born within the week. This is what the MW said to me with my DS though and he was 2 weeks late, so I am not getting too excited yet! MIL arrives tomorrow, once she's here the baby is welcome to make an appearance if he's ready. I'm still not done sewing the curtains for the nursery, though! Perhaps he'll wait until they're up!

Moggmum Happy Birthday for tomorrow! Hope you enjoy yourself!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 06/05/2010 23:43

Alle - congratulations! So glad your LO is finally here for you.

Hollyoaks - sounds like something's happening for you, good luck.

Re measurements - I measured 36 weeks at 32, but I think it was anomaly. My assigned MW has consistently measured me quite big but others I've seen have said I've been spot on each time so I'm not sure how much I trust the measurements.

Moggmum - happy birthday for tomorrow! Hope you have a lovely day. It's my DB's birthday as well.

Sitting up watching the election because I don't think I could get to sleep anyway.

Rachel - exciting that LO is engaged already, hope you have a nice time with your MIL
