Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wibblela · 05/05/2010 21:37

Hi everyone

Congratulations to all the new Mums and LOs I have been lurking a while and watching with interest and bated breath sometimes as stories unfolded It has been and is an honour to hear about the lead up to the births and then about the births themselves.

Well, I have a little bit of news. I went to ante natal clinic yesterday for a check up (was 38+5) and didn't expect much. However, to cut a long story short, they are going to induce me on my due date! Assuming of course that I don't start spontaneously - which is what I am hoping. Due to having MS and the baby being big they don't want to let me go over. I even have a sweep booked in for Friday morning - they are being serious!!! After feeling for a while that they weren't taking anything seriously the hospital has kicked itself into overdrive!

So Kateyjane I may see you on the ward

I can't quite believe that I could be cuddling my LO next week, after all this waiting it felt like I was going to be pg forever. I think I may have had a show as well today Sister came round with her 8 week old, whom I got to hold. When she left I went to the loo which I do alot at the moment and there was... the evidence!! So we shall see what happens

There is lots of leaning forwards at the moment as well - was told yesterday for the first time that baby was back to back - although I am fairly sure that by last night she wasn't! There was a definite bum sticking out This LO definitely has character.

Anyway enough about me. I have waffled enough.

Again, congratulations to all those with their little bundles, and good wishes for all those still waiting.

pigleychez · 05/05/2010 22:25

Hollyoaks- Glad the results came back ok.

Kat- Know what you mean about the pressure in your bum. I often get sharp pains and pressure down there too and it sometimes it feels like its going to pop out my bum!

Heffa- Wow bet that was abit of a shock! At least you have had that decision made for you now and Friday isnt long at all

Pamlet- My bp has been creeping up again ( around 88/90) but then it did towards the end with DD too. Know what you mean about making you feel guilty... not alot you can do about it.

SK- Lovely birth story.. another speedy delivery Glad you are both doing well

BRB- I googled too Thought it didnt quite add up with the number of letters so wasnt sure if I was right or not. Lovely

Wibblea- Good to see you back. Hope things happen soon then

Been busy today with housework. I scrubbed the oven which is now spotless! and refused to use it tonight so ended up with takeaway chinese
Have been on the loo all afternoon and evening. Baby must be really squishing it! So annoying to drag myself upstairs only to get a tiny trickle!

Have MW appointment tomorrow afternoon. My normal MW is now on holiday. ( Busmans holiday really on a hospital ship down the amazon!) Not looking forward to having to explain everything to a new MW though. Can expect her to pick up on the BP and sugar levels which my normal MW knows all about and adjusts accordingly.
With DD I had something similar where a different MW had me sent up the hospital for hours which was completely pointless and caused lots of stress.
Fingers crossed the stand in is nice

Right then!... Who's next!?!

8th would have been my Grandads birthday so maybe this one will appear then- [optomistic face]

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 05/05/2010 22:36

Thanks for posting your birth story SK, congratulations of Jacobs birth, glad it wasn't too bad although reading along I could feel every part of it, the ring of fire etc - ouch!

Really hope five is doing well now, I'm not familiar with her history, was she predicted to have seizures or did that just happen out of the blue? Very scary.

Hope the rest of you alright, ML that placenta looks really strange, I'm glad you both came out of it ok!

I am getting quite fed up now the bump is at maximum capacity. I'm exhausted, spd really hurting now. Bit worried as the person I was expecting to mind ds is working all next week covering someone's sick leave and can't leave work once she's there. eek!

kateyjane · 05/05/2010 22:36

So glad everything went smoothly SK and very impressed that you have already shared your birth story. Hope my induction will be similar to yours! Hope BF is going really well and that you are having lots of cuddles and beginning to feel less sore.

Lovely to hear from you Wibblela. I am also having a sweep (at Calderdale) on Friday morning, though I doubt it will do anything as I will only be 36+5, so it will probably be induction on Monday. Would be lovely to see you on the ward!

Pigley - Hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.

TomlinTowers · 05/05/2010 22:39

Hi All

Many, many congrats to SK and Jacob, and Five and Florence - love both the names!

SK your birth story was lovely. The ring of fire reminded me of my DS1 crowning - I had forgotten about that bit!!

Five - the CT scan and seizures sound a bit scary - I hope you are OK?

Heffa - bit of a shock, but best of luck for Friday! Amazing that your LO will be here in 48 hours!

Wibblela/Kateyjane - good luck!

Alexw - hope something kicks off soon.

Itshappened - congrats again on getting through the exam.

LuckyC - the best thing I found for newborn poo was soaking for a couple of hours in Napisan, or washing with Vanish - and then hanging out to dry in the sun. However, sometimes the poo just doesn't come out - it is potent stuff! As for the nighttime waking, the best advice I was ever given is to make sure that night time is really boring when they wake up so no TV, radio, lights, talking, playing etc, and then make it really exciting when they are awake in the day so they get the idea that nights are dull and want to wake up in the day. However, it took DS1 13 weeks to get the hang of that and until then, as far as I know there is nothing else to do but just live through it! My HV told me that your milk supply is better at night so maybe that is why babies wake more??

Whoever it was that said about taking make up in - I am taking my full make up in to hospital with me, and I did last time. Mind you I also took my hairdryer and straighteners last time as well . I just think being able to put a bit of face on to cover up the bags under eyes, broken veins, dry lips etc makes me feel better and a lot happier about having millions of photos taken!

Also visiting hours - can't remember who asked about visitors but my family were terrible - they just ignored all the warnings about 3 people round the bed and at one point I had 8 people round me, but the nurses just let us get on with it. We were the family that everyone else complained about I think! Hoping things will be a bit calmer this time, but I suspect not, and to be honest I won't be stopping them coming in because they all just want a look at their new grandchild/nephew/niece!

I am also going to ask for a private room this time - I had to share a shower last time and it was disgusting - not even clean. At least with a private room in my hospital you get your own loo and shower, and I agree with whoever's DH said it will be easier to contain DS1!

Nothing happening here today at all - so dispiriting! Had loads of movements yesterday and tonight - hardly anything, to the point that I was starting to get worried, but have had a few kicks so LO must just be having a rest. All seems to build up over a few days and then goes back to nothing! Really, really don't want to go overdue - DS1's birthday is 27th May and by my calcs if I get induced at 42 weeks, I'll be giving birth 28th May, and his birthday party is 29th May! Must try curry and pineapple tomorrow to try and get this LO out at least vaguely near due date....

Carikube · 05/05/2010 23:28

DH has just called me from London to check that nothing is going on round here. Given the sound of him, he has certainly overindulged in the beers so he wouldn't be able to drive me anywhere when he got home anyway!

Am very impressed with all of you taking in makeup/hair stuff etc. I didn't bother with DD and actually ended up transferring from the hospital to the MLU after the birth with a dress on over my pyjamas so probably looked very strange as I wandered around the car park I don't even take my contact lenses in....

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/05/2010 00:31

I didn't take makeup etc in last time, and at the time I really didn't care but I regretted it when I saw the post birth photos as I had big black bags under my eyes, swollen face due to fluid retention, big dark freckles all over my face thanks to pregnancy melasma, and wet hair from the bath which just looked greasy in the pics. This time round I'll try to at least make sure my hair is brushed and a bit of lippy on before dp gets the camera on me!

30ish · 06/05/2010 07:35

Jamesandthegiantbanana what is pregnancy melasma? I'm off to google it right now - I've developed huge freckles on my face and chest which look like age/liver spots! I have more than my Grandma! No amount of make up covers them though. My husband thought i was making things up when I said that I thought they were pregnancy related!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 06/05/2010 07:45

SK - love your birth story, thanks for posting I think the traces are fascinating, watching all the tightenings. Glad you're feeling OK and the SPD is going.

LuckyC - I found Biotex good for newborn poo as well. We had a lot of white things and I used to put them in with a biotex prewash which seemed to work.

Wibblela - glad the hospital are taking you seriously. You must be looking forward to holding your LO.

Re make-up - I'm taking in some make-up, contact lenses etc. Nothing major but enough to not look a complete mess.

BRB - good to hear about a positive CS experience How's your LO doing now?

MoggMum · 06/05/2010 08:50

Good to hear from you Wibblela was wondering whether you were ok - good luck for next week

BRB glad to hear you're doing so well.

Heffa good luck for tomorrow!! Looking forward to hearing news of your new arrival.

I hadn't even considered taking make-up but might pop some in my Hosp bag now! At the rate I keep adding things it looks like I'm packing for a week's holiday in Spain (I wish!)

Had lots of very low sharp pains last night but think (hope) it was just LO trying to move down a bit. Going for wax & pedicure this morning then it's my Birthday tomorrow so hope nothing happens for a few days yet.

Wonder if we'll have any more babies today?

SquirtsMum · 06/05/2010 08:57

Morning ladies, bumps and babes

Had a very restless night, up with what I assume were contractions for a few hrs (tightenings and pain were every 10mins for about 40secs) but I was that exhausted that managed to fall asleep and the contractions have died down, not stopped just not as evil as they were last night - not even bothered if this is stupidly long latent phase just glad something is finally happening. Have a MW appointment tomorrow morning for a sweep so fingers crossed that will start things off properly
Honestly never thought I'd be looking forward to pain!!!!!

Re Make Up - moisturiser, lip balm, foundation, bronzer and contacts packed here!! I know how rubbish I look in piccies at the best of times and as these ones will be around forever I need all the help I can get lol

Sending DP into the city to get some of the stuff MIL has ordered from Mothercare for us whilst I have a long bath and take a walk to Tesco's for the weekly shop, hoping gravity and the 2mile walk does some good

xxxx

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/05/2010 09:17

30ish, yep that's it! Lovely patchy brown freckles, or even more random marks/patterns. My sister developed a brown freckly mark around her jaw, like she'd applied foundation wrong and left a tideline, and my sil ended up with brown "lipliner" so at least I've only got freckles I spose!

Right then, off for a walk waddle. Shaved my legs last night for the first time in er... so it may tempt fate this weekend!

Hope you're all ok, despite the weather.

sweetkitty · 06/05/2010 09:18

Morning everyone just a quick message from me, had a good night last night, Jacob is latching more so hopefully milk will come in soon. Afterpains very sore and I am v bruised downstairs but it's better than being pregnant.

Makeup - I didn't bother, I took a comb and some moisturiser, I looked terrible yesterday chalk white, huge eye bags and I also have the pregnancy mask thing going on, it shows up more on photos I think.

I totally badgered them to be released early, was in about 7 hours after he was born so not bad.

Right am off to change PJs as I think the MW will be along at some point today and I'm sure the wee one will need a feed soon

itshappenedagain · 06/05/2010 09:22

morning all!

big congrats to SK and five on their new arrivals.
and thanx for the birth story SK.

all this talk of makeup reminds me that i need to remember to put mine in...have put hairbrush, lipbalm, etc in, but remember the midwife telling me i looked really pale last time until i put a full face of makeup on when she said much better...think i may have been scaring the other mummies! however the reason could have been that my iron levels had dropped so much.

im off for a haircut today...but beautician has called to say that appointment has to be changed till fri morning as her DD is sick, but im not too bothered it just means i dont have to rush back.
i slept much better last night after my visit to the hospital despite the 4 hour wait!
They said that as far as they could see my cervix was closed but forward and that i was just experiencing increased discharge (sorry TMI) which is common and have a show from what i described.
i have a midwives appointment this morning...which seems pointless but she will want to measure me etc so may as well go, plus next appointment i will be 40+2, but hoping not to get that far as am having a treatment on tuesday if baby hasnt arrived by then!!! ok off to get dressed, babys dad arriving today ive had the call this morning.

pigleychez · 06/05/2010 10:32

Tomlin- We too have lots of birthdays the end of May so could do with not being late and adding another
We have 3 family birthdays on the 26th and my nieces 2nd birthday on the 29th. Been getting lots of invites to the parties/get togethers but its hard to commit to anything at the mo.

James- My freckles always seem more obvious when im pregnant. I seem to have developed very tiny minute little skin tags round my neck. You cant see them but can feel them and its most annoying!

Heffa- I too enjoyed watching the ytraces with DD when i was induced. Before they did the gel you could see big up and down waves. The MW seemed shocked that i couldnt feel them. I later discovered they were contractions and the same size waves bloody hurt after my waters broke!!
Tomorrow

Moggmum- Enjoy your pampering!

Squirt- Things may happen sooner if you are walking that far! Much further than i could manage at the mo.

SK- glad you had a good first night at home

Happened- Enjoy the haircut.

My sister has come round to the idea more now and text me asking how i am and if theres anything they can get as a gift for baby. A few people have asked and i cant think of anything at all as we kept everything from DD. Only thing would be clothes if its a boy.
Anyone any suggestions of things they found useful to have second time round??

Feels like baby is very very low now. My hips ache like crazy, lots of pressure in my bum and constantly feeling damp. Bit more gluppy discharge today (TMI) so guessing thats a good sign things are getting ready.
DD has been talking to my tummy saying Come out baby.. want to see you. So hopefully it will listen to its big sister soon

MW this afternoon so will see what she says.. Fingers crossed shes a nice one

memorylapse · 06/05/2010 10:50

SK..love your birth story..Olivia was born in just 7 mins too..I didnt get a chance to experience the ring of fire though as she shot out in one go! I can visibly remember though as the head crowned when I was having DD2..shouting out "Im dying!"

Good luck for friday sweep ladies

I packed make up in my bag and did put it on to go home..it just made me feel good in myself

Olivia was weighed yesterday and is now 7lbs 4.5 oz

the placenta went off to the path lab..will be interested to know what they find

AnAngelWithin · 06/05/2010 10:54

morning all.

gosh im having trouble keeping up with all the posts.

Pigley, ask everyone for vouchers then when the baby outgrows any clothes you can go on a little shopping trip!

SK glad you had a good first night. I will be badgering for a quick release from hospital too. Don't want to be there a second longer than necessary!!

itshappenedagain Glad you are ok! Enjoy having your hair cut! Mines booked for monday.

james enjoy the walk! I am struggling to walk too far, which is really annoying me cos i walk EVERYWHERE usually!!

squirt don't you be lugging too much back from tescos!!! Good luck for the sweep tomorrow

RE make up...whats that?? lol. I am so boring I don't even own any!!

Feeling a bit rubbish today. Actually struggled to do the school run this morning My back hurts like never before. My hips hurt. Baby isn't moving a lot, hopefully the slowing downs a good sign. Still hiccuping well though.

Day of washing today. Feel the need to keep on top of everything now just in case. Inlaws will just interfere with washing etc while I'm in hospital which is my total bugbare...I hate ANYONE messing with my washing pile!!! The OCD in me I guess!!

OP posts:
MarquiseDeMerteuil · 06/05/2010 11:15

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't been on for a while. I fear this post may be making up for lost time, so will apologise in advance for its length!

First, congratulations to SK and Five on the new arrivals!! SK - thank you for posting your birth story, it made me feel very tearful, am so impressed that you're posting so soon after the birth!

Rachel and Pamelat - thanks for thinking of me! Unfortunately I'm not adding to the list of babies yet - it's just that I've not had time to go online since Sunday. Have been waking up at 4am the last couple of nights thinking of you all though, and wondering what news I'm missing!

So much to catch up on, as usual on here! We were out and about all day on Monday - went out for brunch then a bit of shopping (eventually found a frame in Habitat large enough for our giant poster that I mentioned the other day, so don't have to pay £90 to get it done professionally, yay!), before visiting my gorgeous new niece, which was fantastic. She and my DSis are doing really well. Rachel - you really are in for a treat at Stoke Mandeville - the midwives sound absolutely lovely. One who went off shift during my DSis's labour so missed the birth, actually called in to see her at home the next day to check on her and meet the baby, as she lived nearby. Can't wait for my LO to arrive now!

Then my DMum has been staying since Tuesday, but left yesterday evening, just before I went to meet up with my NCT girls, following which I went straight to a MW appointment before DH and I went out for dinner with some friends! I feel like I've hardly stopped, even though having DM here was actually very relaxing - we were mainly sitting round sewing stuff for the LO, pottering round in the garden etc.

So this morning I left the house with DH when he went to vote, then went to get a paper and a croissant, and now I finally have some time to catch up on all the news here, and it has taken me a good hour and a half so far!

BRB I know the Enid Blyton books you referred to - lovely name!

alle - I was convinced before logging on that you would have delivered by now after the way you've been feeling for the last week or so. I hope it's not too much longer for you.

Pigley - am so impressed that you went swimming this week! This is the first week that I've not had my personal trainer - the bump was starting to get in the way of the press-ups!

Squirt - you are overdue but that you feel great!

30ish - I packed some make-up in my washbag. I hate almost all photos of me (and DH seems to take especially objectionable ones!), so make-up for me is an essential in order to minimise the risk of me bursting into tears when I see the post-birth photos (which is what happened when our wedding photos arrived and I didn't like the way I looked in a single print out of the 30-odd films!).

Forgot to say before that I finally got offered a seat on the train for the first time on Saturday, at almost 9 months!

Alex good luck with the induction today.

Ithappened - glad the exam went well and without any early arrival incidents! Fingers crossed for the results (did you say results come out around 21 June?)

Heffa - How exciting that you'll have your LO in your arms tomorrow! Must have come as a bit of a shock, but it must be nice to know an exact date.

Pamelat - great news that your LO has stayed head-down. I am always about measurements. My m/w measured me again yesterday and the bump has grown another cm since last Friday, so it has gone from 31cm at 36+3 weeks to 36cm at 39+1, which is now within what is considered 'normal'. Have got another growth scan this afternoon as a follow-up to the last one two weeks ago, but am confident that this little one will have grown a fair amount since then, given the growth of the bump. It was estimated at 5lb4 last time, so will be interested to see what they think it is now.

Wibbela - fantastic that they are taking you seriously, and very exciting that things could happen for you very soon. It feels like we're about to get a big rush of babies!

DH and all my friends are convinced that mine will arrive on it's due date (they all said "that would be typical of you MDM" - mainly because I've managed somehow to get a reputation for being well-organised - which is totally undeserved really... I'm just a fiendish list-maker to combat my natural inclination towards laziness and disorganisation!). That probably means it will be two weeks late! However, I'm feeling ready for the LO to arrive now. I've ticked off all the things on my to-do list: have been for haircut and highlights; had bikini-wax; given myself a pedicure; filled freezer with loads of food; got nursery ready and decorated; washed, folded and put away all the baby clothes and bedding; and will get a couple of bottles, cartons of formula and microwave sterilizer-bags on my way to the scan this afternoon.

Right, must post this now before it gets ridiculous. I've been reading and typing since 9 now, so I bet there are a whole load of x-posts with this one!

KaffaCakes · 06/05/2010 11:35

Congrats to SK and Five and welcome to the world Jacob and Florence. Fab names.

So interesting to hear your birth story SweetKitty, sounds like it all went according to your instructions and was all pretty smooth.

Wibela, Kat and 30ish I am a lurker too but love to get all these updates when I drop in every couple of days.

Going back a few pages, I'm so glad that the Tommee Tippee bottles and steriliser has the mumsnet approval! I bought a starter kit from Mothercare with all the bottles, pump, storage tubs etc and an electric steriliser as we also don't have a microwave.

James I also shaved my legs yesterday for the first time in weeks! I feel almost human, though at my ante-natal class the MWs advised NOT to shave in case of emergency section! Even pits. Apparently it increases the chance of MRSA, as shaving breaks the skin. I'm not convinced.

Pigley I feel much the same, though at 38+4 I'm not sure it means I am iminent. Feel very heavy and damp (sorry if TMI) and lots of discharge but no show yet.

MDM your list-making sounds like mine. I have worked for myself for a couple of years now so have to motivate myself through the power of lists! Plus it's an excuse to keep going into Paperchase to purchase notebooks. I am going shopping this avo to fill my freezer and fridge, would like to spend some of my maternity leave making home-made 'ready meals' for the freezer.

Hope everyone's doing OK, sorry if I've missed anyone. Anyone heard from alle lately? She is hopefully on the post-natal ward with her new bundle. I am jealous! Can't wait to meet this newbie inside that is trying to kick its way out right now.

Den26 · 06/05/2010 11:51

TCH - wishing you all the best for tomorrow!

Wibbela - glad hospital are taking notice and good luck when the time comes

SK- thanks for the birth story - love hearing everyine's experiences even though makes me very and impatient!!!

Pigley - with you on the disappointing peeing!!! Was up 6 times last night!

Moggmum - happy birthday for tomorrow hope you have a lovely day and enjoy your pampering!!

Not sure about LO's positioning here, feels very high up and ribs are hurting, woke up in pain last night, wondering if it has turned - i hope not...Have MW on monday so will see then.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 06/05/2010 11:52

Kaffa - paperchase is one of my favourite shops! I can't resist a quick look round in the one at the station when I'm on my way home from work, and invariably end up buying something.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 06/05/2010 12:03

Just noticed that Boots are doing Tommee Tippee microwaveable and elctronic steam sterilisers for half price at the moment.

cupcakefairy · 06/05/2010 12:05

Quick one from me, great birth story SK
MDM glad you're still with us!

to not shaving in case of csection...imagine the pits if you went loads overdue! Ew! I have just booked bikini wax and pedicure for a week today... sods law prob means lo will arrive early now!

I've done lots of bolognese and soup for the freezer but any other suggestions?

I'm soup and shepherd's pie gal! Going to knock up yet more soup and some bolognese later, hopefully some thai curry too, as rice takes little actual work in the kitchen.

Ooh maybe I'll treat myself too cupcake, I think next Monday. . I keep looking at my knackered toenails wishing I could reach them. As fgor my bikini line- I haven't been able to see that for months so I have no idea what's happening down there!

I am so upset. Just had a phone call from the midwife at the hospital saying that I had missed my consultant appointment this morning (It was cancelled as i though as the receptionist said it had been made in error as I had just had one and the consultant didn't actually request to see me again) Then she went on about asking if I was happy enough going to hospital, that I would be safer there yaddayaddayadda..... Then she said 'are you there on your own are you ok to talk?' Which I was. And eh said 'I see you were in hospital last year and had a face/head xray as a result of an assault... was it your partner who did it to you?' NO IT BLOODY WASN'T!!!! It was a supposed best friend who took it upon herself to flip and knock me unconscious outside the school!!!! Then thinking about it as well, my local midwife has been funny with me lately, when I am on my own shes pushed the 'how is your realtionship? If you need to talk you can talk to me, you must tell is everything' thing which I always thought was a bit odd. Obviously, in hindsight, everyone thinks I am married to a wife beater I am livid!!! I will be having words with my midwife on monday I can tell you. And will see about accessing my medical records. God knows if I have got to go to hospital to give birth, all the midwives there are going to be looking at DH like he is a criminal. Was so close to telling her to shove her hospital birth and DEMAND it at home and even pay for private care. sob....sob....
