Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
schipo · 05/05/2010 11:18

it is strangely quiet here isn't it!

carikube/kateyjane - argh nappies - you've reminded me! There's still too much choice for me. I don't know whether to spend my voucher on bumgenius flip or generic bumgenius pocket version.

SquirtsMum - I didn't realise you were overdue - that must be annoying. I suppose you've tried long walks and swims etc.? Still, it sounds like you could be in calm before storm? Don't know if that applies to labour though tbh.

30ish - I can't believe your MIL! I hope you told her that she should have delayed her visit for a few days so that everyone had plenty of time to rest and make themselves presentable. My family on both sides are all miles away so we don't have to worry about surprise visits and I'm afraid i've made it clear to everyone visitors will be more welcome after we've had a week or two to settle down into a routine. I imagine having other young children to take into consideration makes things more complicated though. I haven't made any special arrangements to involve DH's grown up DD1, but perhaps I should?

SK - no news here or on fb! Hope you are in recovery somewhere with happy bundle. Can't wait to here this and all the other announcements expected.

ML - your placenta! very interesting! I've never seen any other so not sure what they're meant to look like but still!!

Pamelat - hope cold goes soon. Mine has all but gone but its taken about 5 days.

Only had two loo breaks last night so feeling well rested. Also I'm watching a tree surgeon trim huge bay tree in garden so that if sun ever returns we get more of it on the lawn. This means the whole house is smelling nicely of bay leaves as they bring all the trimmings through

pamelat · 05/05/2010 11:19

Hello all, was excited about logging on to see if any birth announcements.

itshappenedagain hope you got to do your exam.

I managed a much better nights sleep. I woke at 2 ish, as per normal, and told myself how grateful I will be in a weeks time if someone was to tell me to just go back to sleep and it worked!! I fell back to sleep within about 20 minutes.

I woke at 530am and similar thing, told myself to make the most of it and made it to 7am. Up with DD, got her ready for nursery, went back to bed 830-1030am!! Cant believe how much I have slept, its incredible.

I figure I need to bank sleep stores.

Tomorrow and Friday with DD all day so will be exhausted but once again conscious they could be my last "alone" days with her so determined to make the most of them. Have soft play and toddlers planned and a lunch out on Friday , or rather an hour of distracting her whilst I try to also eat.

pamelat · 05/05/2010 11:20

30ish cant beleive MIL. I am not packing make up!! Just lip balm and moisturiser, my essentials.

rachelfruitloop · 05/05/2010 11:24

Hi Ladies!!!

I bet there have been some births the last few days, it's gone a bit quiet(for us)! Pamelat I was also thinking that MDM has gone quiet in the last couple of days, perhaps she's had hers? Alex hope things are going well after your waters breaking, how very exciting!

Den glad to hear you got back from the wedding with no surprises! Hope you had fun!

BRB so lovely that you're enjoying your baby girl! I googled the book from your clues to figure out the name as I'm nosey, it's so nice! That was one of my fave girl names but when I met DH, he didn't want to name any children with "A" names as our surname starts with A and it bothers him! As we're having another boy anyway it doesn't matter! (If we'd had any girls we'd agreed on Laura in the end)

Itshappened I hope the exam went well, and that you're getting a chance to relax/nest now!

Pigley that's a bit of a relief about your sister's reaction being based on her own news!

Newmomma so sorry LO has gone breech again!!! Hopefully they'll swim round again in the next week or so!

First1 I don't know much personally about CPD, but I had quite a hard time delivering my DS because his head was so large, though got him out in the end with forceps assistance. If given a choice this time around and the head were stuck again, I think I would opt for the CS if possible rather than the forceps, simply because the risk of tearing with forceps even with an episiotomy is so high. Granted, I healed just fine after having an episiotomy and tear but I get scared thinking about the possibility of having a really bad tear that isn't properly sewn up and having incontinence issues for the rest of my life. I know a CS is no walk in the park, either,(and holds a lot of its own risks especially if you're planning to have more babies) so that's why after much consulting at hospital I've decided to try for the VB despite my fears. That's my own personal panic/opinion though! Hope you are able to come to a decision by Friday, it's a lot to think about! Don't know if you've read it yet, but one thing that I read that really helped me decide was reading the NICE guidelines on CS, you can download several different pdf files here. I think it was the NICE Guidance one that I read.

Alle I hope it all kicks off for you soon. I know how frustrating it can be going late, I went 2 weeks late with DS, life was in limbo for far too long!

Hope SK and Five are enjoying newborns by now!!

Hollyoaks hope the test results come back ok, and that you're not in too much pain!

ML had a glance at your placenta pic on FB, very strange cyst! Definitely not for the weak-stomached!

Carikube and Squirtsmum I'm having absolutely no labour symptoms as well, think I'm in for the long haul, too! Still trying to be patient!

Pigley swimming lesson and toddler group! Wow! I barely have the stamina to walk the 5 minutes to drop DS off at pre-school these days! And SO TIRED of talking about my bump with everyone! I just want to go into hiding, I bet I go to the end of May! I was also in a very crap mood yesterday, think it was because I'd been up off and on all night with DS and his sickness, yet he started feeling well enough during the day to be difficult and stroppy!

Sorry I don't think I responded to everything I wanted to this time, but thinking of you all and will be checking in to look for birth announcements!

alexw · 05/05/2010 11:41

Morning all. Just checking in for news. 35 hours after waters breaking still no contractions... Induction booked for tomorrow Hope everyone ok. Am off for walk and to tidy dd bedroom - hoping activity might help...

Carikube · 05/05/2010 11:46

Just back from swimming and pregnancy brain is well and truly still active as I forgot to take DD's swimming costume . Poor little thing went in in just a swim nappy but started to turn a bit blue towards the end so we got out a bit early....

AnAngelWithin · 05/05/2010 11:50

squirt LO will probably turn up now you feel better. Your bodys more relaxed now!

Just been to get dd2 from nursery. One of the other mums saw me waddling along on the way there so gave me a lift which was lovely of her. Planning on a quiet afternoon now, dd is very tired and watching alvin and the chipmunks now. I am just going to write a massive list of stuff for dh....washing machine settings etc. Filling in a diary as well so people know what days all the other kids have PE, afterschool clubs etc. Oh so much to organise!! Having to think about stuff like that now I have to go to hospital this time Wasn't a problem before with having homebirths. sigh....

getting fed up of the 'oh surely you can't get any bigger....oh you look so uncomfortable......you look awful' comments from people. I actually don't feel that bad til they say that!! A bit tired and achey but on the whole, this has got to be the best pregnancy I've had.

LuckyC · 05/05/2010 11:55

hope all well!

QUESTION please

How do you get poo out of baby clothes??? Votes for best stain remover? God it is nasty stuff.

Off for feed round 657382999999

oh, another question:

how is it that during the day I can set a bomb off next to the baby without waking her and yet she is awake ALL NIGHT?

x

AnAngelWithin · 05/05/2010 11:56

lucky i soaked mine in soda crystals, then gave them a really good wash after.

OP posts:
rachelfruitloop · 05/05/2010 12:08

LuckyC I soak the soiled article in Napisan for a couple of hours before putting in the washing machine!

itshappenedagain · 05/05/2010 12:18

hello all!

we are a chatty bunch 2 pages in a day! exam was ok, and i was more relaxed about it than i thought...examinar was lovely and i only had to take 1 loo break. fingers crossed for a pass, as that would be the icing on the cake.

i chilled out last night and went to bed early, but couldnt sllep. also came home put the cot up and put the new covers on the moses basket...my room seems much smaller now, so im planning to rearrange the furniture in there this afternoon whilst Ds is at school. other news have a wax and haircut booked for tomorrow and los dad is meant to be here today... but i tend to beleive it when i see it.

anyway...

lucky- i used to use oxy baby( from wilkos) and vanish bar and give it a good rub for williams pooy stuff. but i use asdas oxy stain remover at the moment as it seems to shift anything...although havent had to try it on baby poo yet!

all those waiting for baby's iminent arrival good luck.

im off to the hospital today to go and get checked even thought i have a midwives appointment in the morning...my friend is worried that il end up with an infection and have to be kept in so may as weel go and get it sorted once and for all.

pigleychez · 05/05/2010 12:36

Hope everyone is well..

no birth announcements yet!? Im sure we have plenty to come

Hollyoaks- Glad you got today off... feet up and relax

Squirt- I remember being 2 weeks late with DD and hated it. I got sooo bored. A neighbour gave me some jigsaws to do as it was something i could do sitting at the table. I got through loads!

30ish- My mother was the same. Just kept commenting on how tired I looked. I had just been through a 27 hour labour so no wonder i was tired! Then she moaned that I didnt have a support bra on... Just us chance
DH told me last night that if i need to stay in at all then he will request a private room as it will be easier to contain DD.- Prob a fair point!

Schipo & Pamlet- Glad you had a good night... makes all the difference doesnt it.

Rachel- My DD has suddenly turned into Kevin for Kevin and Perry! Stroppy isnt the word! Think its the start of the terrible twos. She strops about the house swinging her arms around 'Kevin style' making "uh" noises. 21mths going on 21 yrs I think!!!

Alex- Poor you. At least the end is in sight

Carikube- I did that once when DD was tiny. Thankfully DH nipped back and grabbed it as we only lived round the corner.

Angel- I need to do lists too. I plan to write down DD's routine so that its not too much of a change for her. Also need to list important phone numbers for us and also for who ever cares for DD... either my neighbour or my mum... depending on when/where it happens. Def more to think about with other children!

Lucky- Oh yes i remember that Agree with the others but sadly sometimes it just doesnt come out very well.
Re nightwaking... I remember how DH would say whilst i was in hopsital.. Isnt she good, she sleeps allday! and me thinking yeah but is awake all night!!! - just wait till we come home

LuckyC · 05/05/2010 12:58

Thanks so much angel, rachel, it'shappened and pigley. Will try all you solitions tho maybe not at same time.

when is next baby? when when when? v excited.

slipperthief · 05/05/2010 13:17

Such a busy thread I can't keep up. Hope it all goes okay Alex and anyone else on the verge of popping.

And congratualtions everyone who's already cuddling a lovely new baby

This one's dropped as far south as he can now and I suspect we'll be heading in any day now. But I don't think I'll want anyone visiting straight away other than DH and maybe DS, certainly not my mum (also always full of 'useful' but tactless suggestions)!

And poo - the UV in direct sunlight works well, as well as a soak in bicarbonate of soda.

memorylapse · 05/05/2010 13:38

new mums..invest in a box of bio tex...fantastic for getting stains out of clothes, esp poo stained clothes

brightredballoon · 05/05/2010 13:38

Lucky I use fairy liquid or soap on baby poo! How is feeding going? My DD2 seems to prefer daytime sleeping as well unless I take her into bed with me. I am not too worried unless she starts snack feeding in the day which DD did and led to lots of night waking. DD2 is now draining each boob at a feed (sometimes only one) but its making me feel happier with her length of feed. Has your little one been weighed yet?

I was thinking today, how strange I no longer have these limbs sticking out of my ribs, sides and tummy etc. I feel quilty saying it but I much prefer it now she is here in my arms and now in my stomach any more!

Hope Five and SK are cuddling their newborns now, so exciting

30ish I did take some makeup with me but only put in on day, only a little bit but it did make me feel a bit better.

sweetkitty · 05/05/2010 13:41

Hi everyone just a quick message to say Jacob David John was born this morning at 4.52am, weighing 8lbs 5ozs

He is utterly gorgeous lots of dark hair unlike his sisters.

Very quickly went in at 8pm last night lots of hanging about and they assessed me, was already having small contractions according to the monitor, nothing was happening with the old cervix so they gave me the gel and sent DP home telling him to come in tomorrow where they would try to break my waters. Slept for an hour then woke up and had some sore contractions, thought something was happening for real when I started biting the pillow (was in a ward). That was just after 2am, they took me to delivery suite where I was shouting for G&A, contractions were painful but waters wouldn't go, begged MW to examine me and I was 7cms told her to break my waters and he was born 7mins after that, hurt like hell, delivered placenta naturally about 50 mins later, needed stitches for a 2nd degree tear so a bit sore.

News on Five - she had a little girl yesterday called Florence, will update her details later, she had a very hard time of it, bless her and had two seizures, she was having a CT scan this morning and will be kept in for a few days.

Will check back later for more babies, I cannot believe he is here and he is a he

memorylapse · 05/05/2010 13:49
