Morning!

Today is a whole new world in Hectorland as there seems to be relief from the heartburn as of a couple of hours ago - apologies for such a whiny and self-absorbed post yesterday. Our minor ailment-ometer seems to be swinging to orange at the moment (see what I did there?...being topical...I must be better if I'm resorting to pathetic jokes)so I guess the third trimester is looming or setting in for us all now. I've resolved to man up and take my misery on the chin - those lovely energetic 2nd trimester days had me lulled into a false sense of security there.

Aussie great news re your pensions contributions, what a bonus & relief it must be to have it resolved.

Alice what a lovely, kind man your GIL sounds. He sounds just like my grandfather (who we're naming our little boy after) who died 3 years ago. Those old school true gentlemen are few and far between now. Before he died he wrote a card to my sister's little girl (who's now 5) telling her how wonderful she was and how proud he was to have have met her & been her great-grandfather...my sister looked it out a few weeks ago and in my emotional state, it had me howling. It would have been his 90th birthday this weekend and my sister & I are taking her kids for a nostalgic fish & chips on the beach tomorrow night (complete with exactly the same Duralex tumblers my granny had), just as my granny & papa used to do.

Joey That furniture set looks gorgeous - DH is still stuck on Stokke but I'm going out this avo to check it out in a big M&S near us. Great price if the build quality is good..we could save £1000 which could take us to NYC in the New Year..(yes, I'm deluded I know).

Right, off to vote & get the party food in for tonight - I'm another one pulling an all-nighter just because I can. Though slightly miffed because I can't pour my usual 2 bottles of election night cava down my gullet...

weehector · 06/05/2010 12:09

Oh and happy birthday for yesterday, Elusive!

CherryPie3 · 06/05/2010 13:08

hello hello hello

Not much to report from me today - had a rotten day yesterday - huge family row between me and my auntie . Won't ever be sorted as I will never ever speak to her again .

Moving on....

Star Saw your fb status today - hope you're ok hun, all those symptoms are quite worrying. Thinking of you

Vita I can't help woth the food situation for your ds I'm afraid - never really been in that situation. Your nappy brain sounds quite serious .
I think I possibly have a mild case of it too - I packed dd off to school today for a school trip, gave her her lunch box, gave her a kiss and came to work... then got a text from dh saying her sandwiches were still on the kitchen side , so he lunch today consists of an apple, a banana, a yoghurt pouch/drinky, a frube tube, a cereal bar, and a packet of salt and vinegar chipsticks. I hope she's ok!!

Ronx Yes to leg cramps they bloody hurt!!!! My left leg/foot kind of seized up this morning and I literally had to get dh to move it to release the muscles.

Blueberries Good info on baby sleeping - thanks! (I know it wasn't for me but still found it useful)

Joey and Bubba - both furniture sets are lovely!! Am a little but sad that this lo won't have it's own room so I can't justify buying loads of furniture for him/her. Good choices tho!!

Hilda What is it about Glee that attracts people to it - genuine question as I've never watched it but people at work rave about it. What is it about?
Hope your palpitations are settling down and you're not too weepy

Emster Love the bump pic

CazEm Nope - not sad at all!! I was sooo excited when we I bought the very first things for the baby, I'm purchasing a babychange mat today and I ridiculously can't wait
I was very pleased with myself on Monday as I bought a baby shawl for just £1.99!! And it's a lovely thin one so should be perfect for summer. It was from B&M's I think.

GYA I'm so glad your dd2 is on the mend, hope the same goes for dd1. It's so awful when they're ill.

Alice Thats exactly the reason we're keeping this lo in our room for so long, dd and ds have only just really settled at night i9n the last couple of months, dd still gets up saying she has nightmares (she openly admits that she's lying just to come sleep in our bed, so not concerned about them).

Elusive Happy birthday for yesterday!! Hope you had a lovely day and a lovely weekend away .
at sending bank details by email, how cheeky!!!!

Blueberries I know exactly what you mean about the need to shop whilst nesting

Aussie Thank god the pension issues has been sorted - it's taken so long!!

Right - off to mw now - catch you all later xxx

p.s - has anyone heard from Pample lately?

OP posts:
Aussieng · 06/05/2010 13:30

Belated birthday wishes Elusive. Agree re the bank details (although I'd love to have the nerve ). Actually even if I was likely to buy them something I probably would not after that and I have no problem with people requesting cash/vouchers for weddings etc which I know some see as a no-no.

Oh dear Cherry saw your FB status. Hope you're OK.

Alice - hope you feel beter soon. Feeling rubbish for no reason is hard work and I think it's a nice way to think about your inheritance (ie that he is stil helping).

Paty food sounds good weehector I was thinkng maybe of a curry...

ElusiveMoose · 06/05/2010 13:38

Thanks for birthday wishes. My parents came over, played with DS all day, gave me the aforementioned cheque, and took me out for tea and cake. Nice .

Really jealous of all of you having election parties. I would always have stayed up in the past (I LOVE election night ) but just can't face it when I know I'll have to get up at 6.30 to look after DS. I think I probably ought to go to bed before 10pm, or I just know I'll get sucked in...

Chulita · 06/05/2010 15:49

cherry, sorry about the row, things like that can get to me for days...

vita could you mash whatever you eat with a fork for your DS? We went to France when DD was about 8 months old and although she was mostly BLW we did buy some jars from a French supermarket that went down well.

ronx I had horrible cramps for the first 5 months but they've died down in the last month or so. Very painful though!

gya how scary! Hope your DD picks up really quickly!

I wish my extended family would buy me mountains of crap, I'd ebay the lot and get something I really want In my family grandchildren get handknitted cardis which are lovely but not always what you need!

CherryPie3 · 06/05/2010 18:58

Hey everyone - we're mighty quiet on here today ladies - too busy voting?

I'm really fine about the row - it's been 'brewing' a good long while tbh. My dad disliked this particular relative and I really see why now. She threatened to teach my kids discipline if they don't start speaking to her with some respect .
The thing that sparked all this off was my ds (aged 3 ffs) told her to 'get out' as she was leaving my mums flat. He says this to everyone and is in no way nasty or disrespectful, and my mum was witness to this, I was at work.
Anyhoo....she sent my mum a text reminding her to tell me what Rio (ds) had said - the text said she would smack him if he ever spoke to her like that again, so I replied apologising for what he said and reminded her that it was not her job to smack/discipline my children and to not ever touch them.

Which I don't think is unreasonable?

She then got very aggressive about it all and said she would do what she needed to in order to teach my children manners and respect as I wasn't doing it myself - also that I didn't care about my mum and me and dh have no respect for anyone.
Also that I take the piss out of my mum because she cares for my children whilst I work (she takes and picks them up from school) and that I should hire a nanny. As if I could bloody afford one!
She's the kind of woman who has never worked and has lived on benefits all her life, all 6(!) of her children were taken into care as she couldn't look after them, so she has never known how hard it can be to balance work and childcare.

Thankfully I saved all the horrible texts she sent me so I showed them to my mum so she sould see how nasty her sister could be (mum has always thought the suns shines out of Aunties rear orifice).

On the bright side - my dh was so furious he almost went to her house to tell her exactly what he thought of her speaking to his pregnant wife and 3yo son like that and how she should be ashamed of herself . Have I ever mentioned that I love my dh dearly

I'm sorry I've waffled on for far too long about it - once I started writing I couldn't stop until the whole thing was typed down.

As my fb status said - some people, family or not, just aren't worth the energy.

weehector Your grandfather sounds so lovely . Your post had me in tears because you're so completely right about the 'old schoold true gentleman'. My dad was one, sadly he died in 2008 aged just 68 . Miss him dearly but wouldn't wish him back as he was so very poorly. He suffered too much for too long!

Alice Hope you're feeling better honey

Chulita It's knitted cardigans and shawls in my family..... Really thick ones that really are not suitable for summer babies!

OP posts:
starshaker · 06/05/2010 19:09

Well it turns out there are 2 things going on at the same time.
The headaches and weird vision are to do with eye strain. The blood pressure and protein is cos of a urine infection and cos i was stressed about the vision thing lol.
So all fine just need to take antibiotics for the uti

However the hospital trip did become rather funny in a scary kind of way. When i got there they told me they needed to just double check everything but if it came back the same as it did at the docs then the theatre was ready for me and i would maybe be meeting my babies today. Turns out they thought i was 34 weeks instead of 24

CherryPie3 · 06/05/2010 19:13

oooh - just realised I'm into 3rd trimester today

28 weeks today
Only 12 to go....whoop whoop

OP posts:
neenz · 06/05/2010 19:13

Cherry sorry about the row with your aunt .

20 hats seems rather OTT . I was glad for anything anyone could give us - I hate spending money so did not get that urge at all! I hate being ungrateful but it does annoy me when PILs buy stuff for the DTs that they don't need. My family always ask me what they should buy for birthdays etc, but ILs have decided 'one year toys, the next year clothes' - even if they don't need any bloody new clothes! All families are different I suppose, I just wish the IL family were normal like mine

It's my DTs birthday today - they are 2 . Video of them opening pressies here if anyone is bored and wants something to do!

Interesting about newborns going straight in 0-3mths clothes - just goes to show all babies are different!

Baby in your room for 6mths - I don't think they know for sure why it helps but the stats show the risk is lower. I have also heard like Blueberries that your breathing helps regulate their breathing. Also because you are near you can respond quickly to them. I was still glad to put mine in their own room at 7wks tho (I figured they could regulate each other's breathing )

I had a steam steriliser for the microwave which was great. You can also use milton tablets in cold water and just soak stuff, or boil stuff on the stove for occassional sterilising.

Bank details in new baby announcement??

Star, you should definitely see your MW or GP if you feel something is not quite right. You won't be wasting their time.

CherryPie3 · 06/05/2010 19:15

OMG Star How scary to be told theatre was being prepped for you !!

Hope the anti-bi's take the infection away and everything gets back to normal for you

OP posts:
neenz · 06/05/2010 19:15

Star, x-posted - glad everything went ok. at meeting your babies today, I bet you were petrified!

CherryPie3 · 06/05/2010 19:17

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEENZ* TWINS

I can't view the video as I'm at work but I'm sure it was magic

OP posts:
Chulita · 06/05/2010 19:18

star how scary! I'd have crapped myself if someone said that! Glad it's nothing too serious and you should be able to get it all fixed.
weehector my grandad's the same, always wears his hat (or charlie haplin as he calls it) just so he can take it off when he says hello to ladies they don't breed them like that anymore!

bouncingblueberries · 06/05/2010 20:16

neenz "I just wish the IL family were normal like mine" My thoughts exactly!!! Guess we can't all have wonderfully, sane and balanced parents

star you poor thing! Get better very very soon.

marzi, elusive aussie and alice thanks for backing me up girls I don't have the easiest relationship with MIL but I know at lot of it is in my head and I find it difficult to understand why she can't just be normal like my lovely mum! I need to learn to be more accepting good idea just to ebay excess stuff though whoever suggested it!

Bubbabear · 06/05/2010 20:22

Aussieng I have only seen the tutti bambini furniture on websites. However I did contact them through the email address on their website www.tuttibambini.co.uk to ask if there were any shops I may be able to view the furniture in/near London as their showroom is only opening Mon-Fri 9-5pm. I had a reply within 24 hours & they suggested Totland in Tottenham, London. If your too far away from there then try mailing them & asking for suggestions near you.
I might go & see it if i can find the time to get there but have also heard great reviews in general so might just go with it as i like it so much & seems such a good deal
No matter where you see it, make sure you check what price it is on the www.bambinodirect.co.uk site first as the one i was looking at was so much cheaper than on the main website & the best deals can sometimes be online.
I wont be ordering quite yet so let me know if you do go & view it, would love to know what you think. Happy hunting

Best go off & vote then i suppose, catch up better later!

CherryPie3 · 06/05/2010 20:38

Don't know if anyone saw it but there was a thread about BambinoDirect [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/492704-has-anyone-bought-from-bambino-direct here]]

Not very good reviews from some people - might be worth a read before ordering from them.

Just wondered what you guys thought of this...

Do you think this crib would be too 'bedroomy' for us to use in the living room?
Not sure why but I'd prefer not to have a moses basket this time (unless I can drop on the white waffle one from John Lewis but it's permantly sold out!) - thought this might be an ok substitute, and it's only £39.99 with free delivery.

OP posts:
Bubbabear · 06/05/2010 22:08

Thanks for the thread link Cherry, had a quick read. Some of the arguing on there reminded me why I don't really get involved with some of the other threads on MN (very heated) so I ran away back to the safety of our lovely supportive lil thread pretty sharpish! Lol
Most of the posts are a year or two old & the company is obviously still managing to trade, plus the most recent posts are a bit if a mixture but overall sounds like a company may be best avoiding, esp as pregnant ladies don't have the time/energy to wait to sort out any problems with deliveries/horrible men on the end of the phone upsetting mums-to-be! I wonder if it ever was on watchdog??! Might be best going direct with tutti bambini as originally planned...will have a good think. Cheers hon

Emster30 · 06/05/2010 22:11

I am planning to stay up as late as poss - I have tomorrow off work especially. However I am sleepy already! Might go for a bath now before any results start coming in.

No one has offered to buy anything for us yet - it's one reason why I have been holding off buying anything myself! I'm sure my PILs and my grandparents will want to buy something, but I can't exactly ask them...

Joey30 · 06/05/2010 22:43

WeeHector What a lovely post about your grandad. So touching. Glad you like the furniture but Stoke cots are just lovely as well!
Elusive- Hope you had a great birthday!
cherrypie Sorry about your Aunt. She sounds like a nightmare and obviously has no idea about children- your little one is only three for goodness sake! The cot isnt too bedroomy at all- really good price as well!
Neenz happy birthday for your twins!
"Emster* Your bump is so neat! Really sweet piccie! Good luck staying up for the election! I'm flagging already!

Am still full of cold and a bit fed up so am thinking I'll have a day relaxing and reading tommorow!

CazEM · 07/05/2010 07:39

Morning Girls!

Well woken up to the election results - not quite all in yet but appears we are going into hung parliament area, unless the blues make up the majority of the seats left to come in! Never thought I would find politic mildly exciting! Won't know who the PM is before going to work today by the looks anyway!

Elusive - hope you had a lovely birthday!

Aussie Don't worry! I didn't think you had suggested I was self-absorbed! Your right, if people have never been pregnant it is diffcult to understand the focus on baby/pregnancy. Its a priority shift isn't it basically - I know all of mine are changing already! I'm really not trying to be selfish but I realised faily early on this little baby needs me to put it first and it is inevitable that lots of aspects of my life with change dramatically, including friendships. Of course I knew that before we started trying for baby but it isn't until baby actually exists and its there (like you said physical changes!) it really sinks in! It not something you can understand until you've been pregnant is it, I am the first of my group of friends to have a baby, (other baby arrivals have been slightly older friends of family and my SIL) which isn't helping either - there is no-one who can empathise with me! (Thats why I love MN, I can really let it all out on here!)

Cherry sorry to hear about your Aunt. for you, like the way you parent your children is anything to do with her?! I wouldn't expect my mother to say anything like that to me let alone an Auntie!! and considering the scares you've had recently I think it is completely unacceptable to have caused you any stress like this, she obviously didn't consider your health at all!! I don't blame your DH for wanting to give her a piece of his mind. (My DH also wants to do the piece of mind for upsetting his pregnant wife thing but I'm asking him to keep out of my row for the time being unless I get ganged up on anymore, and I haven't had the health scares you've had!!) You poor thing.

neenz - Haha, I also quite often comment that I wish DH's families (parents divorced so I consider myself having two sets of PILS) were normal like mine! Isn't it remarkable how different families are!

I wasn't around yesterday as I spent the evening at Mums (seen her a lot this week!!) while DH went up the garage for his friend to change our brakes! I wasn't feeling great last night - both legs were in agony. Hips especially hurting but also knee joints anad ankles slightly swollen and feet painful! Ok this morning though. My next pregnancy symptom complaint?! I hope not! I wondered if its cuz I'm going all out front and starting to walk funny because of the being off-balance?!

Glad brakes are done on the car, hoping the seatbelt bumpsafe thing I ordered (a week ago) finally arrives today because we're off to N.Wales tonight for our last baby free weekend away! 4 hour or more drive though so would feel happier with the belt. Come on Royal Mail! Still not convinced DH is well enough for the weekend (yes its all still ongoing, latest is probable problem with nervous system, waiting on urgent specialist appointment) but he is insisting we are going. I'm looking forward, I really need a weekend away after all the emotion this week!

Well that was a super long post for 7.30 am - see what happens when I have a day off here! Haha!

Have a lovely day all, will try and check in before leaving later on, although haven't packed yet (due to painful legs last night) so if not have a lovely weekend aswell! x x

ElusiveMoose · 07/05/2010 08:35

Well well well, what an interesting day we have woken up to. I made it through until midnight but then gave up and went to bed. I'll be glued to the radio today, though - so interesting to see what happens.

I have also unfortunately woken up to a cold sore. Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy-safe remedy? I've read that Zovirax has not been shown to be safe during pg, so would rather avoid if possible.

bouncingblueberries · 07/05/2010 08:35

cherry that's a great price for a crib! Cheaper than some moses baskets that's for sure. My only concern would be how sturdy it would be, but then moses baskets aren't that sturdy are they!

I'm undecided on the whole crib/moses basket thing too. We were given a moses basket last time but some mice decided to make a nest out of it last year . Then we discovered just a couple of weeks ago that the lovely rocking stand that I thought was fine was a bit knackered!

Oh well.

Was planning on having a chilled out day today but dh has just phoned to say he's forgotten his rail ticket, so ds and I are going to take a quick trip up into London to give it to him - give me an excuse for a quick visit to Borough Market! Yum!
