Wow Alice you got some bargins there. I too am a big Primark fan, in fact I was in there today and bought a double duvet cover with two matching pillow cases for £6, bargin. ALso great for toddler clothes, especially the rate my DS goes through them.

Am very of all of you that are buying baby things. I can't buy anything until the house is finished and the stuff that I already have from when DS was a baby is all in storage in a different county! I do have a beautiful new pushchair though, we went for the O'Baby tandem and I love it. Gues where that is though... STORAGE!

Oh and I agree with everyone wrt making the fb page secret.

weehector · 03/05/2010 23:52

CazEm So sorry about your your pal, it does sound like your own personal milestones trigger some jealousy (er, so not a normal reaction between the truest of friends..like the ones you'd ask to be bridesmaids) and that the relationship has gone beyond being healthy for either of you. It's a sad fact of life that we outgrow friends or they outgrow us..if I'm honest (and this may make me sound like a hard bitch when I'm actually very loyal to my friends), I believe a good 'friend audit' is no bad thing every now and again as I'd rather be great friends with a handful of people than run myself ragged trying to service a whole load of friends just to try and keep everyone happy.

When it starts feeling like an obligation or you're doing something just to meet their expectations (as your situation seems due to her lack of empathy or compromise re her wedding - unless she's throwing as much effort into a baby shower or making plans to bring you emergency food parcels, take you out for a last girl's day pre-baby, etc...her expectations could be fair if in the past you've both invested a huge amount emotionally & physically in each other's lives & big events), the friendship has probably run its course. Life is way too short for 'obligation' pals..and I guess motherhood is one of the crunch times for it - I'm fully expecting to lose a few of my 'good time' glamorous friends over the next few months when I start to become even more boring. but on the flip side, I've just had my uni pals (20 years on from our crazy 1st year!) to stay for the weekend and its been lovely to be able to connect with them on the baby level finally though I'm sure I must have been a crap friend at some point over the last 8 years where there's been babies around just by not having the baby experience behind me (my approach has been to make an effort with presents, let everyone come to stay, grin and bear the kids and take to drink whenever they've finally shipped their screaming kids back home).

Today's news from Hectorland is that its just dawned on me today that I've been having BH for weeks. I am so stoopid not to realise that that's what those sensations were. I'm also managing to stay away from baby lists just now in favour of doing things for myself (cinema, roadtrips, meals out, the garden, afternoon teas, seeing old friends) which is great considering how baby obsessed I've been - I'm hoping it makes the next couple of weeks pass faster then I'll be back to the baby planning with gusto.

Am wary of FB too - haven't accepted any friends yet as I'm having the paranoia that I too may get stalked by a few people I know and I love having this as my private place to let off steam & moan speak from the heart. I want to keep it that way and may delist from FB unless it's private!

CazEM · 04/05/2010 07:22

Morning!

Thank you for your kind words ladies! And you are all completely right, this friendship has run its course and no doubt will pitter out completely over the next couple of months! I'm a little sad but like I said yesterday relieved that I've removed myself from the situation, I really don't think I would've coped with a new baby and all the bridesmaid duty expectations; organising hen, dress fittings over an hour away etc etc. DH is proud he says that I've put myself first for a change, when actually I said I've put our daughter first! So anyway, like weehector said first time motherhood is a crunch time for many friendships - especially as we are evidently not on the same page with the same feelings.

I'm muchly looking forward to making lots of Mummy friends in the autumn at the mother and baby groups I plan to attend!!

DH was lovely yesterday afternoon after we got home. Took me shopping to cheer me up and we spent our HIP grant and more (even though it hasn't actually arrived in the bank yet!) and got the baby her car seat and some bedding for the cot. Bedding wasn't actually a necessity but it is very pretty! Rosebud collection from Mothercare. Can't wait to start putting the nursery together!

And then he took me to Frankie and Benny's for tea! Very yummy dessert - Cookies and Cream Explosion! mmm! Which I didn't need cuz afterwards I was soooo full bump was very uncomfortable, almost painful. So we didn't get as far as the cinema which was our next planned stop and I ended up in bed having a lie down! Haha!

Anyway, hope everyone else enjoyed their bank holiday! Catch up with you all later!

x x

P.S - Also agreeing with the FB to be private. I like this being my private little world! and I too have been wondering about BH... someone explain to me exactly what they feel like so I can decide if I'm having them?! I know that sounds really dense!!

Alicetheinvisible · 04/05/2010 09:34

Caz Bump goes very hard and almost like it is straining against the skin. Can be the whole bump or just in 'bands' iyswim?

bouncingblueberries · 04/05/2010 10:06

Morning girls! Hope everyone had a lovely bank holiday despite the weather.

CazEm teenage boys are horrid! Dreading my beautiful ds reaching that stage!

Someone mentioned cameras as gifts from baby to sibling - I managed to get a friend to get me one of those indestructible kids cameras from Costco to give to ds. My plan is that he can take lots of photos and then (with a bit of sneaky editing) we'll make a little scrapbook together for the baby all about our family. That reminds me, must start sorting out some photos to print off and pop in a shoebox that we can pretend ds has taken!

Well, we've had quite a weekend. Friday night ds vomiting all night, so I spent Saturday feeling like death warmed up. Bless dh though, he wouldn't let me help clear up in the vomit in case I caught anything. Sunday was very productive though! Made 2 dresses and a pair of pyjama bottoms for ds! Woo hoo! 1 dress is for a wedding we're going to at the end of May and the other one is just a little sundress thing. Ridiculously proud of myself! Yesterday, did a load of work down at the allotment while dh lay on sofa trying not to vomit. Poor dh, I hate it when he's ill and I'm just not the type to fuss and nurse him! Then just as he started to feel better, I came down with the vomiting bug. So vile. DH was a star though and ordered me to stay in bed today. Was going to brave it and go into work or at least get them to send a bike with my laptop but have decided against it. I never take sick days, so I'm making the most of this one!

Have a lovely Tuesday!

Joey30 · 04/05/2010 10:14

Cazem I'm sorry about problems you have had with your friend but its definately for the best to have only true friends around you!

Woke up this morning with an awful cold- feel like I've been catching every bug going since being pregnant! Drinking lots of tea and watching home and health to make me feel better!

Hope everyone enjoyed the rainy bank holiday! Had a great weekend spending lots of time with my little nieces- my one year old niece took her fist steps while we were there. Yay!My other neice suggested the baby should be called Donald Isobel....erm not so sure about that one!

marzipananimal · 04/05/2010 12:19

Hi all, I got my internet back this morning {grin] How I've missed it! It's taken me all mornign to catch up with you lot though - although I'm in bed with a cold so it's been a good use of my morning i think!

We're pretty settled in our new house now although still some tidying to do. Very excited about starting to buy baby things! (maybe next weekend if we've finished sorting the house!)

I've requested to join the fb group (i think). Initials are LS.

CherryPie3 · 04/05/2010 12:24

Afternoon

Did everyone have a lovely weekend? Wasn't great weather was it? Never mind - it'll be bank holiday again before we know, only a few weeks away .

Well the garage are supposed to be coming for my car today between 9 and 1pm. We'll see - I don't believe the at all! Still furious at that stupid woman on Friday - my car is a right mess!

Caz I'm sorry to hear of your friend, weddings and babies eh? Tends to bring out either the best or the worst in people.

Blueberries Thats a very eventful weekend - hope you all feel better very soon

CrunchieNutter I'll try to remember to update the list when I get to work today.
If anyone else has anything they'd like to update on the list please re-post as I may not have time at work to scroll back through the pages - I will try tho

TTFN xx

So many people with colds! Hope you all get better quickly
I'm waiting til the HIP grant comes through then I'm going to get spending and actually pack my hospital/labour bag. I know it's early days but I'm crossing my fingers for a 37 weeker and positive thinking is all you need right [dubiously hopeful emoticon]
Hope everyone who's sick gets a relaxing day!

bouncingblueberries · 04/05/2010 12:31

ow ow ow! Heartburn! Fck bgger *rse! Sooooo painful Gaviscon is RUBBISH!

Alicetheinvisible · 04/05/2010 12:55

Blueberries i only ever found that milk and Rennies work for me. Tis horrid though

Aussieng · 04/05/2010 13:44

ice-cream sometimes works for heartburn

Alice I have those feelings in my tummy - seems to be a lot worse if I have been active especially if bending over. Feels like baby is about to explode right out of my tummy muscles. I was expecting contractions to be much more variable than that (even BH) so it had not occurred to me that this is what that feeling is. (BTW - must be the project manager in me that makes me feel disorganised then!)

Questions ladies. So I am pretty sure that I have made my decision on the bio v non-bio washing powder and I am going with the advice of the Nappy Lady and not intending to use non-bio washing powder for babies clothes.

A harder one is sterilising equipment. Now if breastfeeding goes OK then hopefully this wont be an issue for a good 6-8 weeks post birth anyway and only for expressed milk but what are your views on the need to sterilise baby equipment (bottle teats, dummies etc)? I know that US advice is "not necessary", other countries such as New Zealand say only necessary for a very short time and in the UK (as usual) there seems to be a difference of opinion between Midwives and Microbiologists.... I'm veering towards dishwasher only...

bouncingblueberries · 04/05/2010 14:07

Thanks alice - tried both but no luck

might try aussie's suggestion. So you've confused me aussie - are you using bio or non-bio????? As for sterlising...hmm, always wondered about this...inclined to think dishwasher fine but different story if you end up with thrush...will ponder...

Alicetheinvisible · 04/05/2010 14:38

We used Non bio for DD's baby clothes only before she was born, but since having her i got urticaria(sp?) i think that is what it is called. Sensitive skin that comes up in huge weals if i do so much as catch a finger nail on it. It had gone almost back to normal until this pregnancy. So now i have to have non-bio for myself, so we use it for all of us.

Sterilising - we had a steam steriliser (lots of expressing and top up formula) which we used loads for the bottles/teats/breast pump, but once it had sterilised we used up the bottles as we needed, not in the alloted time frame so don't know quite how sterile things were. We stopped at about 7months (ish) as DD was rolling round the floor, starting to pick bits of fluff etc up and put them in her mouth and the steriliser broke, so figured it was pointless replacing it.

Just had a lovely nap on the sofa, but was having quite strong BH on and off. The bump was all small and soft and quiet this morning, but this afternoon has doubled in size and is very tight

Aussieng · 04/05/2010 15:11

Sorry blueberries - I'm using bio (but will try the ones which Nappy Lady suggests and/or the eco friendly ones). The site makes an interesting point that hardly any countries in the world sell non-bio powder except for the UK.

Gosh Alice - that sounds painful but the nap sounds good right now.

sparkle101 · 04/05/2010 15:14

Sorry - quick fly in and fly out!

cherry please can you add onto mine that the 20 week scan went well too.

Many thanks!

CrunchieNutterII · 04/05/2010 15:29

Blueberries, I always favored the ones that taste like refreshers, tums?

I also went with non bio when DS was a new born. Changed to bio when he started to eat solids as the non was rubbish at getting the food stains out.

Has anyone heard of the Babyway Day Stroller? As a said my beautiful new pushchair is in storage until the house is finished and I was wanting a cheapy just for going into town and around the shops. Saw this on Amazon for £12 and has good reviews. Too good to be true? www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/B0037T5K10/sr=1-2/qid=1272976287/ref=dp_image_z_0?ie=UTF8&n=59624 031&s=baby&qid=1272976287&sr=1-2

YummymummyKJulie · 04/05/2010 17:24

Hi Girls!!

Oh I can see we all suffering from the same thing right now bloody HEARTBURN!!! AAAa it makes me scream!! I cant eat anything anymore for dinner as as soon I eat I cant sleep anymore!!! So just plenty of milk and almonds! The best remedy!

I simply can not believe we have only 3 months or less left!

Girls Primark!! AAA best thing ever cheap and cheerful!Bought some vest and bodysuits, so cute, mother care and H&M had some sales found lots nice things ;-)

CazEM · 04/05/2010 17:33

Evening!

Sorry to hear about all the sickness and colds! Hope your all feeling better soon! Touch wood I have been fine all pregnancy so far... and that was despite a solid 6 weeks of constant bugs going around my class and then chicken pox hitting the class too! I was desperate for Easter hols, was fed up of cleaning up kiddies and just to break the cycle of child passing to child!

Definately sounds like its BH I'm having quite a lot of then! Especially if I've been bending down a lot and quite often in the evening too. Like Aussie it feels like baby is about to 'pop' my tummy! Very uncomfortable!

blueberries - my sympathies with the heartburn, I'm only occasionally getting it bad at the moment (touch wood) - gaviscon just makes me gag! Yuck!

Regards the non-bio/bio talk - I already use non-bio, my Mum has always used it because we all had very sensitive skin, childhood ecszma - and I just followed suit when I started washing my own clothes! So will continue to just keep using it.

I didn't realise baby bottles could go in the dishwasher... we have been bought an electric steam sterilizer mind so I suppose we better make use of that! Haha! Hopefully bottles will only have to be used for expressed milk or top up milk so we won't have to do too much work with them for the first couple of months. Will have to unpack all that stuff and put it into the cupboard in kitchen I emptied for it all at some point soon I think!!

Had a nice day at work but had to keep reminding myself it was Tuesday and not Monday! Onto an evening of lovely relaxing now!

bouncingblueberries · 04/05/2010 17:55

Just bought my first pack of newborn disposable nappies . Will use disposable for the first wee while until we're a bit more settled then switch to reusables. Also bought some breast pads and had a quick sort through stuff I'd kept from when ds was born. Was able to throw half of it away though as a lot of it still had milk stains Left all the obviously boy stuff in the bag though and only brought out the unisex stuff. Lots of vests, but barely a babygro in sight, so guess what I'll be buying!

yummymummy must check out costco - neighbours have membership so might persuade them to let us tag along one afternoon.

Heartburn now eased off thankfully. Even my nipples and ears were aching with it . Think my stomach was just so acidic after vomiting all night . Picked ds up from nursery to discover half the nursery had the same vomiting bug this weekend and I have my suspicions as to who brought it into nursery I know it's hard, but I really wish parents wouldn't put their kids to nursery if they've been up all night vomiting

CherryPie3 · 04/05/2010 18:13

hey hunnies

Heres the list update as promised, Crunchie Did I get the name change right? And Hilda, you're now on the 'new' list

Blueberries Hope your heartburn is better - it's horrible!!

Primark Another fan here . Although I only go in about once every couple of months cos it's just too crazy busy in there!!

Washing - we used non-bio for about a month after dd was born, stopped after one box once we realised how pants it is at getting even milk stains out!!

Sterilising We used a microwave steam ssteriliser for quickness for a year, then we stopped as the kids got so dirty falling over etc that there was no point anymore.

YummyMummy No birth plan here - will write it at some point but it will only consist of me stating baby to be delivered onto my tummy/chest, dh will cut the cord, and I will request pain relief as and when I feel I need it. Under no circumstances am I to be offered epidural. If it gets to the point where I need a c-section then there will be no birth plan as by then it's already out of my control, my only request in that case will be for me to try to bf as soon as physically possible following surgery.
And thats about it

Crunchie We had one of those pushchairs with dd when our normal one was being fixed, they're not suitable from birth tho. Think dd was about 9 months old when we used it and she was very squashed (but then again it was winter and she had a big coat on). The best stroller we had was the Mothercare pebble - but I don't think they do it anymore which is a shame as I would definitely buy one again!!

Hey ladies!

Just a quick check in as I've scanned over the messages I've missed.

Been really busy as been away with DH visiting his Grandpa, he's unfortunately on his last legs

re: fbook group I can make it secret if you like but as i have to invite people into the group I didn't know how people would feel about posting their fbook names on here IYSWIM. My fbook name is zoecampbell.... so if anyone wants to add me as a friend you can do it that way & send me a message to say who you are

also has someone requested to join with the initials TH?

re heartburn. I get that all the time and did before preggers, I actually found it better for a while strangely but it's back with a vengeance! I've got a permanent prescription for omeprazole, but haven't taken it yet as haven't got round to asking if this is ok to take whilst preggers. In the meantime I find rennies the best thing, gaviscon doesn't seem to work for me.

cazem sorry I haven't quite caught up properly but sorry to hear about your friend being odd about her wedding. I think she probably has to get a grip and realise that you have other things to worry about and I think you are completely within your right to be, she should be more understanding. However on the otherside some people can get really blinded by their wedding, it is a big event to organise and some people turn a bit monstrous when doing it! My friend was a bmaid 3 months after giving birth and ordered her dress one size up from what she usually would have been with a view to getting it taken in if she managed to loose the extra weight (turned out to be 2 sizes!) but no problem, depends on the style of dress.

will catch up proplerly, busy busy at moment with all that's going on with DH's grandpa (he needs 24hr watch at the moment - exhausting!).

Hiya ladies,

I must try to get on here more often so I can re-focus on bambino but trying to find a house is so time and thought-consuming! We've got offers in on one now so fingers crossed it goes through (i hate waiting!), otherwise we're homeless and with 17 weeks to go we're pushing it a bit!! [worried]

Went to Mothercare and Mama's and Papa's yesterday to try to get prepared clothes wise but I'm really struggling to know what to buy. Firstly we don't know if it's a boy or girl so we thought we'd buy minimal clothing until baby arrives. But, how do you know what size to buy? Or is this me being a bit clueless??! We've bought the big stuff like travel system and car seat & base (waiting until we know which house we'll be living in until we buy nursery furniture) but I'm really struggling to prepare with the smaller suff.

And don't get me started on sterilisers cos they've got me really confused! I don't plan to breastfeed for very long but then I might change my mind if bambino takes to it and I'm fine etc. So do I buy a steriliser or not? Then, what type is best....microwave, steam or whatever else is available?!

Any thoughts are very very welcomed!!

xx

Chulita · 04/05/2010 18:23

With washing we use eco-balls because DD got the most awful reaction to pretty much every kind of powder. They're pretty good and manage to clean DD's permanent squitty nappies - the only thing is they don't leave a smell so I add ecover fabric conditioner for the nice smell on our sheets and stuff. It works for us!

I was probably more paranoid than I needed to be with sterilising and did it til DD was about 11 months but then realised that with her crawling around I was fighting a losing battle so gave up. I was bfing though so only sterilised a couple of bottles a week.
blueberries I'm the opposite, I've got lots of babygros but no first size vests... I know what you mean about parents knowingly bringing in sick children, really pisses me off

I find I get heartburn if I bend down after eating. Good excuse to flop on the sofa and chill out after a meal

mrsZaC · 04/05/2010 18:25

ooh hilda snap!

totally the same, we have 2 flats that we're trying to sell before buying. However seen a house we really like so just put the price down & fixed it on one of the flats in the hope of a quick sale so we can put an offer in... fingers and toes crossed!

We're not ordering any furniture either until we have the house/baby whichever comes first.

I too am confused about clothes, bought some in tesco in newborn size the other day (neutral as I'm team surprise too) in newborn, and 0-3 months, only spent £5 as they have 25% off clothing just now, I'm being optimistic that I'll go full term but figure if baby is premature they wouldn't let me home with baby anyway so that would give us time to get clothes... is that right?

Anyways got to dash, off to aquanatal - wish me luck!
