Hello ladies

Coffee i hope your friend comes back with her tail between her legs, There is no way i would ever take the word of a sulky teenager over that of someone who was a good friend without discussing it. Her loss.

I took a urine sample into the Dr's today as i was sure i had a UTI. Just had the nurse phone. No UTI, pain possibly due to being small with a big bump or possible start to contractions so need to keep an eye on it. Friend has also phoned to say her son (who we saw on thurs) has got slapped cheek, so now have to go for blood test tomorrow. The fun just never stops

DD is being grumpy today because of a busy weekend, still have the horses to do, and really hoping she falls asleep in the car!

CherryPie3 · 26/04/2010 16:43

Chulita It's not my NDS - it's dd's!!!

As for make-up - I remember how ghastly I felt after the births of dd and ds, and I remember wishing both times for my make-up so I'm making sure it's packed this time around . I want to look human for when visitors arrive, not bothered about when I'm actually giving birth - reckon I'l have other things on mind at that point

What a horrid situation coffeelady - sympathies.

Just back from the midwife, all fine, it was the grumpy one but she was a bit nicer this time. Except apparently I shouldn't have gone for bloods last week (so the other midwife messed up by telling me to do so) plus I'm a week early to see her (as the clinic is only on a Monday and next week's a bank holiday) which seems to have messed up all my next appointments! Oh well.

I was told to book antenatal classes when I was 28 weeks. I'm only 27 weeks now but thought I'd call and get them booked. We decided against NCT as they cost £230 for two intensive Saturdays here and my neighbour told us that the local NCT is really good at getting people to know each other and arranging meet ups for people due in certain months.

So anyway I just tried both the doctor's surgery where the midwife told me to book classes, and the children's centre across the road - and neither has classes starting until mid July! Bit bloody late for me as I'm due on 25 July! I have booked into the children's centre one anyway as the midwife there sounds lovely, plus they're 3 weeks rather than 4 so I have more chance of making it to the end...

Guess I'd better make sure I am prepared myself, and get DH to do some reading as well just in case we never make it to the classes...

My neighbour recommended the classes run by the physiotherapy dept at the hospital which are general relaxation and preparation for labour classes, so I tried to book in for them, but there was no answer. I've left a message and hopefully it won't be too late - it says on the thing to book at 25 weeks.

vix206 · 26/04/2010 17:24

coffeelady you are so not being unreasonable and I'm not going to tell you to man up because I would also have collapsed into floods of tears over this You poor thing, I hope you can sort it out. DH and I run our own business and haven't yet had the joy of taking on staff (we are internet based so we get by with just the 2 of us but it is getting to a tipping point now I must admit).

Anyway, just sending hugs your way. Try not to be too stressed and upset about it, I know its easier said than done. Some days are just awful

CazEM · 26/04/2010 17:44

Hello ladies!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like I may wet myself sometimes! I swear baby is using my bladder as her own personal bouncy castle! Haha! I spend half my day on the loo at the moment, glad I have understanding staff in my class!

coffee - you are definately not being selfish. I can't believe you cancelled your holiday and are not having to endure a teenage strop. More fool her mother for reacting like this and behaving in an equally childish manner as her daughter instead of talking to you like a grown up. I agree with Chulita - email her back in a couple of days and explain how you had cancelled your holiday to accomodate her daughter.

My symptom of choice today girls is painful hips, right hip worse than left. I've been limping around all day... any ideas? Woke up like it this morning and assumed I must've slept in an awkward position, but it hasn't eased at all all day... Pad up with further pillows tonight I reckon, that'll please DH I'm sure! He says he's given up on trying to cwtch up to me in bed because he can't get near enough for all the pillows!

Vix - see someone about your aches and pains. Defo emergancy in my opinion, you cant go on like that for another week. I will defo be asking the MW about this hip pain tomorrow when I see her.

Cherry - I've stolen your list! It'll make for a good start when I start to get the hospital bag together! I didn't know where to start before! Haha!

Right DH has just arrived home so I better get on with tea - toad in the hole and vegetables tonight! Yummy!

CazEM · 26/04/2010 17:45

that was supposed to be *now having to endure a teenage strop.

CherryPie3 · 26/04/2010 17:54

CazEm Feel free to rob the list hun, I've now added ipod and speakers to it as well . So I can listen to Taylor Swift or something when I'm labouring and reading nicely

Emster Thats a bit about the classes. Fingers crossed you get to see them through!!

Just found this amazing sale if you're interested - wish I'd found it sooner cos it ends at midnight tonight!!

here it is.

I'm getting the cotbed - ordering it tonight when I get home

OP posts:
CherryPie3 · 26/04/2010 18:06

erm.....that was supposed to say the first cotbed - at £69.99.

I'm willing to sacrifice my M&P savannah cotbed for a saving like that - I'll get the bedding from M&P with the money I save (unless Kiddicare do bedding as well - haven't checked yet!)

ElusiveMoose · 26/04/2010 18:11

Really quick post - will try to catch up properly later. Just wanted to say before I forget, that THE single best thing I took in my hospital bag was a sports water bottle. So much easier to drink from than the hospital's silly little cups, both during labour and afterwards. I'm going to have to buy another one - DH made me throw away the last one, because he said it kept making him feel slightly sick just looking at it .

Joey30 · 26/04/2010 18:24

Lots of tips for the hospital bag. I have bought the bag and made a list to put in itbut it doesnt have anything in it yet!

I really want mamas and papas bedding as well cherry pie I know their prices are a rip off but they are soooo pretty!

Accidentally tried to put my pre pregnancy size 8 leggings on this morning instead of my maternity ones- dont feel that much bigger but I am SO MUCH BIGGER! Love my bump though

CazEM · 26/04/2010 19:09

Joey - size 8 pre-preg!? You lucky thing! Size 8 for me was pre-uni! Haha!

Think I've been stung by a wasp... DH must've bought it in on his shirt and it got my arm when he hugged me. My arm suddenly started stinging (although it seems fine again now apart from a little lump and hurting a bit when I touch it), which I thought was weird and then half hour later I found a half dead wasp on the floor! Oh well, the joys of the weather warming up I suppose.

Decided I'm going to spend the rest of my evening in bed being thoroughly lazy - watch a few programmes off the sky box. DH has taken my car up his friends garage for him to check my brakes (I think they may need new pads or something, but what do I know about cars?!), so I'm home alone with the kitcat!

vitapulchra · 26/04/2010 21:16

Coffee--I'm sorry to hear about your dilemma and understand how terribly upsetting and awful it is. I'm quite shocked by your friend's reaction, though. I think it's understandable that her first impulse would be to sympathise with her daughter, but if she had any real regard for you or your friendship, she would or in the near future will be willing to listen to your side of the story and rationally consider it. The facts simply don't stack up against you.

I'm ballooning nicely in all directions and have decided to forego my previous resolution not to buy any more new maternity clothes. We're off to Cyprus for 10 days in May and I'm larger than ever, so . . . maternity maxi dresses for me! And long linen trousers (I also need things that will nicely cover up my compression tights, which I MUST wear every day or have incredibly painful veins). I've found a few, in case others of you feel like hiding but also trying to still look nice: here and here and here. Sadly, this bit of shopping has made me feel happy!

aendr · 26/04/2010 22:05

Sorry I haven't said anything for ages - been a busy week and I'm going to be busy for a while to come. Hello to the newbies, sympathies for those in pain and the teenage strop - probably trying not to get told off for quitting her job over nothing.

Bedding - don't get too much no matter how cute! We've still got stuff we haven't used (e.g. the gorgeous Humphrey's corner blanket which we haven't used on DS but is great for going over mummy's knees to keep her feet warm when watching TV or reading a book ). We converted to sleeping bags as soon as DS was big enough for them and will probably stick to them till he's in a proper bed (we got a cot, not a cot bed though.)

cazzybabs · 26/04/2010 22:33

OMG hosipal bags -what are you ladies doing??? That is not job for now... persoanlly I perfer to leave it until I am in labour .. or about to be admitted to hospiatal
seriously you are making me feel bad with your organization ... I am wondering if I need to buy some materntiy clothes or if my 2 skirts from last time will be OK?

CazEM · 27/04/2010 07:16

Morning - well I enjoyed a very lazy evening! Regretting it this morning though getting up to a very messy house, especially the kitchen! Oh well, will get DH to sort it out later! lol!

My car does need new pads all around and new discs on the back! So that sounds like an expensive job! Got garage friend sourcing parts today so at least we can get them on trade prices!

vita - I ordered that green dress from Next, I thought it was really pretty and flattereing over the bump but unfortunately did nothing to make my bust look very flattered so I sent it back!(currently an ample 34GG, but I am due another fitting as 34 seems rather tight and uncomfortable now!)

Hip is improved this morning, nowhere near as painful as yesterday! another pillow plumped around the back and underneath my hip seems to have done the trick. I'll still mention it to the MW though! Muchly looking forward to seeing MW today - I'm sure nothing too exciting will happen, well apart from hearing babies heartbeat on a proper doppler, but its nice to start to have more regular appointments now! Only hoping my urine sample doesn't show too much sugar in it - my chocolate consumption is beyond! I'm definately taking advantage of this "I'm pregnant and therefore will eat whatever I wish too!" lark! Haha!

Right better get sandwhiches made and showered/dressed for work - running late as usual, maybe I should leave the laptop alone in the mornings! Have a lovely day everyone!

Alicetheinvisible · 27/04/2010 08:21

Morning

Cazzy you don't need to be as organised, as you are an old hand at this now what do you do with your other children when you go into hospital? I am thinking that along with the hospital bag, i ought to pack DD an overnight bag too, but not yet, just writing lists for now!

I am trying to eat healthily as much as possible, as i am concious(sp?) of how big my bump is and concerned that i don't actually need too much food. Just having a full fat hot chocolate in the evening meets any extra cals needed. I have now put on 1st4lbs and about a stone of that must be bump and boobs, as my other clothes still fit everywhere else.

bouncingblueberries · 27/04/2010 09:03

Morning girls

Nice dresses vita! I tried on some old elasticated waist skirts that I have last night and was quite shocked at how awful they looked . Made we look even more like a weeble!

coffee that is rubbish and agree with what aendr said - she was probably trying to avoid getting into trouble for quitting her job!

I had a bit of a scary episode on the train this morning - don't really know what to make of it. I'd been rushing around all morning as ds refused to get out of bed then promptly chucked his bowl of rice crispies all over the kitchen floor . Think we're having a few behavioural issues at the mo - someone is pushing boundaries and staking his claim me thinks! Anyway, so, relatively stressful morning, dash to the train station and manage to catch my usual train. No seats as per usual but I decided instead of standing near the door I was going to be brave and walk down the aisle to the "priority" seats and ask someone if I could sit down. Waddled along to the priority seats only to find everyone "asleep" . So I lost my bottle. But as I was standing there quietly fuming I could feel my pulse getting quicker and quicker. And then the baby starting going bananas, kicking and wriggling and doing an irish jig by the feel of it. Then I started getting lots of really hard kicks over where the placenta is - which was not a nice sensation at all! Especially as I could feel the pulse in the placenta - I know that sounds weird but that's what it felt like! I think I started hyperventilating a little because a woman did eventually offer me a seat and kept looking at me oddly. Everything calmed down pretty quickly once i sat down but I think it might have been like a panic attack?

Weird, so weird.

ElusiveMoose · 27/04/2010 09:47

Hi all,

Blueberries that sounds horrible. Does sound a bit like a panic attack, from others' description of them; maybe just down to higher blood pressure, less oxygen to the brain etc? Make sure you take it easy for the rest of the day, and do get yourself checked out if you don't feel totally better.

Re bedding, I totally agree not to pack too much. Get plenty of fitted sheets (for Moses basket and cot), because you know you'll definitely use those for years. And maybe a couple of flat sheets (useful for putting under the baby's head to catch vomit). A couple of those cotton blankets are good for swaddling and putting over the baby (but you shouldn't need many, given that we're all having summer babies!). But personally, I wouldn't get anything at all in the way of quilts, bumpers and other bedding. Sleeping bags are definitely the way forward - SO easy to use. I'm planning to use them from birth if I can - I need to check, but last time round the advice was that babies can use them as soon as they're 8 and a half pounds. And if you're feeling pangs about not buying loads of cute nursery bedding, you can get seriously cute sleeping bags to make up for it!

Emster30 · 27/04/2010 10:20

Morning all, i'm off sick today with a cold so a full day of MN is in prospect...

Hope you'refeeling better bb,that sounds scary!

I still haven't bought anything at all yet, still less thought about a hospital bag... aargh!

CherryPie3 · 27/04/2010 10:22

Morning!
Feeling a bit ripped off today, ordered that cotbed last night, checked the site this morning and they've extended the sale by a whole week!! Sneaky little buggers! Oh well....at least the baby has somewhere to sleep for a few years now - coming tomorrow I think .

Blueberries It's a shame it took a turn like that for someone to offer you a seat!! Hope you're feeling better honey, maybe baby was getting annoyed on your behalf

Cazzy As you know I'm a list freak - I have this need to organise things, I just wish it would extend to the housework, or the kids bedrooms....

CazEm Good luck at mw hun - nothing better than hearing lo's heartbeat . Hope she can help with your hip too!
Is that green dress from Next not that good then? I'm quite abit 'top heavy' and wasconsidering getting it - might give it a miss now...

Good advice re bedding - I just think it looks so lovely when it's all set up nicely in the cot, in all honesty we never used the quilt either, and the bumper was a waste of money cos it wouldn't stay in place, seemed to be made to only fit a cot rather than a cotbed - and we checked beforehand too. Never mind. I think I'll just buy some pretty fitted sheets cos I'm sure we'll use them lots. And also some flat sheets too.

Have a lovely day xxx

Just found this

mamas and papas sleeping bags HALF PRICE

OP posts:
bouncingblueberries · 27/04/2010 10:39

Just remembered my top tip from last time with ds:

Buy lots of pillowcases from Ikea (or similar) and use them on your changing mats and instead of a fitted sheet for the moses basket. ds was forever puking and/or weeing all over the changing mat and in his moses basket, so pillow cases just made for a much easier life. We had loads in different colours.

Thanks for your kind words girls. I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow, so I might mention it to her. Blood pressure been nice and steady so far, so hope it's not about to start misbehaving!

pamplem0usse · 27/04/2010 11:01

ARGH!! I'm so angry with my midwife.

She's mucho abrupt and as a consequence I brought my husband along this time (it's the first time he's been able to attend).... he's generally pretty chilled out but found her unhelpful.

She completely failed to acknowledge my husband.

So I've been having pelvic pains but as I went to an emergency Drs appointment a couple of weeks ago and they told me that I hadn't got a UTI I assumed it was just pregnancy stuff. So I told her about my pelvic pain and she basically tells me off for not having been to my Drs (even tho I explained the above). She also had a go because apparently my urine is too concentrated ('you're not drinking enough, you could be harming your baby'). Even when I explained I'd already had a pint and a half of fluid before doing my sample she still told me off.

She let the student midwife sit in, without asking, and asked her to examine me, again without asking. This is now the second of three appointments I've effectively had a student midwife do without my permission.

She fails to explain anything fully to me. She laughed about the fact that the new government are likely to get rid of the HIP grant which 'probably means you won't get it'.... because she won't give me my form before my 28 week appointment.

She didn't say a word about my 28 week bloods, so unless I book an appointment then I wouldn't get it

Oh and from my notes she obviously thinks the gestation period is a year... as apparently I'm now on week 23 of 52. Grrr

bouncingblueberries · 27/04/2010 11:08

oh pample that is rubbish. But you need to get your HIP grant form NOW! I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you need to apply within 30 days of being 25 weeks or you don't get it - will try and find a link for you.

Your midwife sounds like a right grumpy old fish wife. You're a grown women ffs! How dare she make you feel bad. Very for you.

Right off to find a link for you..
