MarquiseDeMerteuil · 06/04/2010 21:39

Quick post before dinner to say thanks everyone for the tips about changing bags. Think I might go for a specially made one. I've found a few I like the look of - skip hop dash, the skip hop via messenger , the oioi messenger and the bababing satchel. Have actually had a look at the bababing in real life rather than just online, and DH quite likes it. All my handbags have loads of different sections, so I might also get one of the mini skiphop pronto or [[http://www.happybags.co.uk/changing-bags/ICMC.html isoki] changing-mat with storage things to shove in a handbag for short trips out to the shops or for coffee etc.

Shattered after personal training session this evening so off to eat dinner then veg in front of CSI!

AnAngelWithin · 06/04/2010 22:05

ive got the skip hop dash and can honestly say its one of the best bags i've ever had!! I've got a changing bag that came with my pram so i'll use that for a bit, and as long as the babys a girl i can use my skiphop as well cos its pink camo lol

Pagen · 07/04/2010 09:41

Hello everyone guess what, this is Pagens mum! No she hasn't had the baby yet but she has got a problem with her hand and can't type. It's carpal tunnel syndrome made worse because of the water retention so she has to rest it, Doctors orders. She is not happy being seperated from mumsnet and finds it painful watching me type one fingered!
I'm a mum, we do these things!

She will carry on following your adventures on the thread but won't be able to respond for a while. i on the other hand am very jealous of you all because 36 years ago there were no computers let alone mumsnet! Take care, Sue (mum).

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 07/04/2010 10:55

Hi all, this thread moves so damned quickly. Pagen, and mum, I understand what you're going through with the CTS. That's why I can't post too often, it has improved since I've left work though.
Those of you with bad heartburn, please don't suffer in silence, there is so much more you can safely take apart from the vomit inducing Gaviscon. Ranetadine is safe, and can be bought of the shelf in Tesco's or similar or on free prescription from Docs. Or if you get it really bad like me, (other meds make it horrendous) docs can prescribe Omeprazole. It's the only way i can eat anything, was on it for DC4 and this DC5.

SK, lol at you grinning at the blue washing machine, can just imagine it. Such a shame we're not still near each other.

All those still searching for funky changing bags, I love my JuJuBe bag that i got when PG with DC4. It's so big & roomy, with loads of pockets and bragging slots for a couple of photos. Even big enough to use the front flap as a handbag for purse, keys and sunnies etc. Mine is the BeAll bag, a big one, but they do loads of others, a few UK companies sell them over here. Happybags, that cute age etc.
www.shopjujube.com/Product.aspx?l=00010003000000000000&p=JJB01231 Look here for a video demo etc.
Hope we're all keeping well. My BH are really quite painful now, but i think they get worse with each subsequent baby.
Take care all.

KaffaCakes · 07/04/2010 11:33

Oh Pigley, I feel your pain. Isn't movement of any kind getting awkward? My stretchmarks have only appeared in the last week, and itch like hell. Sleep is impossible, I wake up every half hour on my back then have to struggle like an upside tortoise to get back onto my side. Ridiculous.

Hi Sue, hope Pagen is OK and the carpal tunnel isn't getting her too down. Carpal tunnel, SPD and heartburn are the three things I've managed to avoid luckily.

Got an ante-natal appointment this afternoon, hope baby's head is still down, will report back later.

In other news, our washing machien has broken down, so mum will be getting a load of crob-sized bedding and tiny clothes to wash later on!

x

rachelfruitloop · 07/04/2010 12:14

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick one for now, got back from having a growth scan this morning, baby is head down (hooray) and they estimate he already weighs 7 lbs! 6 weeks to go! He already looks so chubby! Saw his bits quite clearly so now convinced it really is a boy!
Also found out my GTT results are normal, which is a relief!

Five thanks for the tip on the heartburn meds, I think I will seek out something stronger!

Pagen sorry you're suffering with the carpal tunnel! Hello to you, Sue!

Kaffa Hope your appointment goes well. I feel you with the uncomfortable sleep positions! Sorry about your washing machine being broken!

Thought I'd share MLs latest status update on FB from yesterday, she says "Still in hospital but emergency c section averted for now. However the end is in sight, induction next week! Unless baby appears on her own" So we'll definitely start seeing some babies soon! BRB sounds like yours will be very soon as well, I am very excited for you!!!

I hope everyone is having a good day!

alle01 · 07/04/2010 12:19

hi, i just starting to wake up today. i had my scan at 34 wks and couldn't get a picture, not good show of baby, but he is fine, though, and head down in the right position.
gils- i would have that discharge checked, if is nothing you can stop worrying about it , if it matters you can do something about it, anyway, good luck, hopefully it'll be ok.
i got my bag form my sister, it came with the pram, but i have a huge hand bag i used for work, so i'll be ok, dh prefers the pram bag to carry himself, he is so excited about the baby, he says he would have carry pink stuff if it had been a girl.
i have terrible heartburn, it doesn't feel auckward, but it hurts, i have been sick at nights, but i found a solution, sleeping propped up in pillows, don't ask me why, but it works...
i have midwife today, 37 wks tomorrow, anybody had giving birth in brighton hospital and can give reviews???

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 07/04/2010 12:34

alle01, please go get something for your heartburn from the docs. you really don't have to go through all that. Or try ranetidine tabs from the supermarket or chemist.

myfirstbump · 07/04/2010 12:42

Hi everyone, long time no post.

Thankfully not a lot to report, just sort of ticking along nicely. Almost finished the baby's room now - just waiting for the mattress. Then will be washing everything and packing my hospital bag and buying too many babygros etc.

Kaffa - I'm struggling to sleep now too. I can't get comfy on either side and turning over is like trying to raise the Titanic.

My belly button's still in (good times). But DH spotted my first stretchmark the other day (bad times). Been frantically rubbing in a Neal's Yard sample moisturiser for the last few days to try and keep more from appearing.

What happened to ML?!?!? Thanks for the status update fruity.

Hi Pagen, and Pagen's Mum! Hope you're feeling ok too and the CT isn't beating you too much.

Sorry for missing so many posts. I only got back a couple of pages and I still can't think of what's going on!

newmomma · 07/04/2010 13:32

Hiya ladies,

If someone's looking for a change-bag recommendation I can thoroughly recommend mine - I got it from Blooming Marvellous (I think we can even get a 10% discount being Mners!) and it still looks as good a year on as the day I bought it!

Loads of pockets and the interior fabric is gorgeous...

lin and leo

Gils · 07/04/2010 13:42

Hi girls

Quick post and will promise to read everyones posts later, can't believe how much we post.

Phoned midwife and told to go in. By time I got home was having loads of braxton hicks but leaking had stopped. Waters never broke last time either and was a very quick labor. DH was down in England last night and wasn't allowed to drive again till 830 this morning. Sis came with me and mum stayed with DD, oh they are so stressful. Decided if DH is away when I do go into labour might actually prefer to go in myself.

After examination and some monitoring confident everything ok. Trace of protein.

I was in there for hours so shattered today. Took half day today and DD in nursery - bliss! Not back at work till next Wed and finish on Fri woo hoo

DorotheaPlenticlew · 07/04/2010 13:49

Does anyone else find that if you sneakily lie down in bed during the day, when you actually are supposed to be doing other stuff like work, childcare, dishes, laundry etc, you find a comfy position right away and could nap for Britain? But then, at night, it once again becomes completely impossible to get comfortable?

I have puzzled over this conundrum for many weeks now.

Pagen/Sue, sympathies re the carpal tunnel. I had it badly last time, but thankfully not so much this time; I think working at a keyboard all day, as I used to, definitely made it a lot worse. I got a splint from the physio but it wasn't terribly helpful and was extremely awkward to wear at night -- like we don't have enough discomfort! Thankfully the carpal tunnel vanished as soon as DS was born; I hope it'll be the same for you.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 07/04/2010 13:50

x-post, glad to hear you're essentially OK Gils!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 07/04/2010 14:07

MFB and Kaffa - your strech-mark comments have reminded me about a question I was going to ask on here the other day... Is there a point at which you can safely assume you won't get any stretchmarks, or can they appear right up to the last minute? I seem to have avoided them so far, but presumably that doesn't mean I'm going to be lucky enough to get away without any?

Five - great tip on the JuJu BeAll bag, it looks fab! The video demo made me laugh though - the camera was focused on the lady the whole time with the bag squashed into the bottome 1/3 of the screen! Still, it was enough to make me promote it to my shortlist with the SkipHop Dash and Messenger and one I've found called DadGear messenger. Now just need to narrow down the choice and decide on a colour (pushchair is black, so can go for any colour really, as long as DH happy to carry it too!). Work have asked me to let them know if there's anything specific I'd like as a going-on-maternity-leave present, so I thought I could ask for the changing bag (or at least a contribution towards it!)

Rachel at LO being right way up but at him being 7lb already! How much did your first DS weigh?

Pagen - your mum sounds lovely (hello Sue if you're still reading!). The carpal tunnel sounds very painful - my Gran suffered a lot from that, it prevented her from being able to do any knitting (which really got her down), and meant she always had really cold hands. She had an operation in the end, which sorted it out. Is yours meant to go away after the birth? Oops, sorry, I don't expect you to answer that, just remembered you can't type [numpty emoticon!].

Better get one with some more work - leaving early today for yoga.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 07/04/2010 14:13

X-post Newmomma - now your recommendation of the lin & leo has put the cat amongst the pigeons! I might have to get 2 change bags now, a smart one for nice trips out to restaurants / cafes etc. and a more casual messenger style one for things like going to the park / walks on the common / DH to use .

Carikube · 07/04/2010 14:20

MDM I haven't had any stretch marks with either pregnancy - I'm assuming that as I'm not any bigger this time round that I'm not going to get any now as that area has already stretched once (hopeful emoticon). I'm guessing it just means that I either have really stretchy skin or else (more likely!) was a bit bigger than I needed to be anyway so not much stretching has had to go on .

I got a changing bag for DD from work as one of my leaving presents. Couldn't tell you what make it was but I'm still using it now; however I think a good rucksack or similar would work just as well; it's certainly not something I'd want to be spending a lot of money on. Don't know if this one will cope with having to cater for two of them as it's permanently full with stuff for DD but we shall see...

DorotheaPlenticlew · 07/04/2010 14:22

MDM, I have heard of people getting stretch marks in week 40! Don't uncross those fingers just yet. I got away without any last time though, so am holding out hope for another win this time (every other aspect of my body is totally depressing in the mirror now ... I don't ask for much)

pigleychez · 07/04/2010 14:59

PAGEN- Hope the hand improves. Thanks for updating us MummyPagen

RACHEL- Thats quite a size! but glad hes ok.

MDM- Do check out TKmaxx as they often have Skiphop and OiOi bags. My OiOi messenger (RRP £70) cost me £30 in there
Stretch marks- You are never safe. I got to 40 weeks without any with DD but it was in the 2 weeks she was late that they appeared

GILLS- Glad everything is ok. Must of been abit scary. Know what you mean about family. My mum would be an absolute nightmare as shes such a stresshead!

DORETHEA- Soooo with you! Toss and turn all night but just managed an instant comfy hour on the sofa whilst DD naps.

DH has just text to say hes on his way home early. He was visiting a client site in London, so should be home by 4 -Yay. I may be able to pack my hospital bag in peace later then rather than DD pulling everything out to "see it".

itshappenedagain · 07/04/2010 15:02

hello all! very quick post as im trying to pack to go to my parents...was meant to be picked up on friday and my dad has just called to say he will be leaving in an hour!!!

re stretch marks, i was lucky until 2 days befoe the arrival of DS and i looked in teh mirror to see the whole of my stomach covered in them, im not as big this time so havent (so far) had anymore! no matter how much cream you apply it doesnt matter, was told this by the dermatologist.

as for changing bags, i havent decided on one yet...but thanx to all of you lovely ladies i have a list to be going on with...my pram is red so will go along those lines, had a lovely oioi one last time in differnt shades of blue, gave it to a friend when i was done with it as it was still like new.
anyway have to go...hope ML is ok and that no one has had their baby/ies, as mum has no internet!!!
take care all.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 07/04/2010 15:11

MDM - it's actually the Skip Hop Dash I have . It's in Ocean Stripe which is lovely and DH is happy to carry it. I've been very pleased with it

Rachel - 7lbs My LO was 5lbs this morning with 6 weeks to go. Glad your GTT results were OK

Gils - sounds scary, glad everything's OK (sort of). Hope you get some rest.

Dorothea - know exactly what you mean, I fall asleep everywhere during the day but am hideously uncomfortable at night and wake up (if I get to sleep) every hour or so

Pagen - sorry you're suffering with carpal tunnel, I had it last time round and it's horrid. Your Mum sounds lovely

Re stretch marks - I've heard some people don't get them until post-birth as well when they suddenly appear. Not sure how common it is though!

I had a growth scan today and all well, BP is sort of behaving itself at the moment as well (high but consistent). My doctor booked me in for a section on 11th May but said I can cancel it if I don't want one or if something else happens first so will wait and see what happens.

Oooh, just realised that the phone was off the hook and connected to someone. Had a closer look and realised that it must have rung while I was washing up and DD must have answered it and then left it hanging - luckily it was a cold calling company Bet they won't call here again, it's been connected for nearly half an hour!

Hollyoaks · 07/04/2010 15:37

Afternoon all,

DD down for a nap so having a quick catch-up.

Gils - glad everything was ok

Rachel - thats a big baby , he's going to be a monster when he gets here.

MDM - I'm just going to use the bag that came with my pram but I would recommend getting a specially designed baby bag as, like others have said, the bottle holders and compartments are really useful.

Stretch marks - I haven't got any but neither has my mother, sister or auntie. I'm convinced its genetic and there's not much that can be done to prevent them.

Pagen - hope the CTS resolves itself after the baby arrives.

Been to the mw this morning and lo is head down which is a relief as she wasn't sure last week. BP was low but still a trace of protein in my urine . She's confident its just contamination from vaginal secretions and told me to make sure its a mid-stream sample. I reminded her how difficult it is to actually catch any at all in the little sample bottle that they provide with a big belly in the way and a curious 2 year old virtually between your legs.

Potty training - day one, one success and five accidents. Day two, no successes (so far) and three accidents. Never mind, will keep at it.

cupcakefairy · 07/04/2010 16:25

hello girls, sorry I've been totally awol- still not connected at the new house until a wk Friday been having a mammoth catch up with you all though!

Loving all the changing bag tips, I had been wondering the same myself. I got a lovely new big handbag at Christmas but doesn't have many pockets...might have to try and work out if it's adaptable but I think it just being a short shoulder bag might be annoying.

I now have a new midwife I'll be seeing next week...my 4th this pregnancy still on the iron tablets which are helping me feel better (despite the horrible horrible coloured bowel movements and extra heartburn, bleurgh!) finish work next week which I am quite excited about.

Can't believe ML will be induced next week, our babies are coming so soon!
DH and I have finally settled on 2 boys' names, but only have one girls' name still (we wanted a choice incase we went off one of them when we saw baby!)...we're convinced it's a boy anyway so will probably be fine!

Ok- onto replies-
SK I know this was ages ago but you mentioned about the post-birth bleeding onto towels. Everyone keeps saying this and I have bought a black towel to take to hospital but I really want to ask a stupid question- can you not just hold a mat pad over your bits after the shower? That's what I would do during af after getting out of shower if I wasn't using a tampon at the time... or is the flow just TOO MUCH and blood gets everywhere? sorry for being thick.

MDM Yes you are weird for looking forward to the labour and re stretch marks I got them on my boobs fairly early on but thought I was getting away without them on my tummy...in the last few days about 3 have appeared on my hips. I've been using expensive cream the whole way through as well, d'oh.

LuckyC lol! Your comment about the food expiry date cracked me up.. every time anyone mentions a date that's after my due date I freak out!

BRB I've been wondering about starting to prep for baby and I think I'm just going to wait until my mat leave to do all the washing of clothes etc as I'll have more time!

Welcome alle- I too am planning on surgically attaching myself to dh so they can't send him away from the hospital. I don't cope well with being alone, particularly during life changing events!! Am hoping we'll get a room on the posh new MLU though with double beds so he can stay.

katey I'm exactly the same with the mat pads- I've picked them up about 3 times in the supermarket then put them back building up to it slowly- last night I bought breast pads and a massive bag of cotton wool balls...

I have half started my hospital bag now- put in baby's things and a couple of other bits but here's what I'm planning to take-

For baby
4 vests (2 nb size, 2 0-3mth size)
3 sleepsuits (2 nb size, 1 0-3 mth size)
Scratch mitts
Hat
Cardigan
Blanket
Towel
10 or so nappies
Cotton wool
2 muslins
Booties (I know they're a bit poitless but my Mum bought us some super cute ones!)
Soft toy

For me
1 nightie to potentially labour in
1 front-opening nightie for after
Tankini for birthing pool
Mat pads
Big knickers
Breast pads
Nursing bras
Dark towel
Dried apricots
iPod
Phone & charger
Notepad & pen
Bendy straws
Energy tablets
TENS machine
Toiletries
Flip flops
Dressing gown
Comfy clothes (2 outfits)

For dh
Change of shirt
Camera
Snacks

Hoping I haven't missed anything vital!! All starting to feel a little too real now

cupcakefairy · 07/04/2010 16:29

Ooh also, one of the parenting books I have says an absolute essential for the hospital is to take a 'squeezy bottle or jug' to pour warm water over your bits when you wee after the birth I thought this a little odd but if she considers it 'absolute essential' maybe I will pack that too!

pigleychez · 07/04/2010 17:47

Cupcake- You know what it feels like if you have a tiny cut on your fingers then peel an orange and get the juice in the cut.... Its similiar thing.
Prob not putting it over correctly but acidy wee on a wound basically. It can sting like crazy!

Will return later but DH and DD have just nipped out to get chinese for dinner! Yummy Yummy!!!

memorylapse · 07/04/2010 18:57

Sorry for the me post again. Unfortunately it takes an age to scroll through all the posts on my phone. Im still in hospital and have been told I wont b going home until ive given birth! Eek! Induction is hopefully next week at 37+1. However ive been having mild contractions and had a show today.consultant is monitoring baby carefully and said she will deliver if baby seems distressed. Have been phoning dh in a flap getting him to pack my hospital bag!
