So sorry Jenny, how absolutely devastating for you. Look after yourself.

Bad luck cherry, that sucks that your DH has gone away without you! I also want to go away with my DH before it's too late to fly, but he has been doing an internship and says that he doesn't deserve to go on holiday until he gets a paid job. I've told him that a) that's rubbish, he's been working really hard and needs a break, b) not to worry about money - his parents have given him a cheque towards it as they think it's important for us to get away, plus we can well afford it, and c) I really want to go away, if only for a 3-day city break, for the last time as just the two of us before the baby comes. He won't have it though! It's really frustrating. I've arranged to join my parents on holiday in France at the end of May as I really want to go away, but I want to go away with him as well.

CherryPie3 · 30/03/2010 13:29

It's a city break that I'm fancying too - I'm thinking Barcelona. He's text me back and he says to have a look around. Just need to find his credit card now.....

Sounds like your dh really deserves a break away - if only to de-stress a bit!! Keep dropping hints to him, bring city brochures back and leave in obvious (but obviously accidental ) places for him to peruse at his leisure!!

He may come round a bit!!!

Dibbydab · 30/03/2010 13:45

Afternoon girls.

Big hugs Jenny

I've finally uploaded some pics of the finished bathroom onto my profile. The before picture is the one I was least embarrassed to post, it was that hideous.

We now move onto the kitchen which starts on 12th April - am I a glutton for punishment or what? Involves knocking a wall down between kitchen and breakfast room with the potential of damaging the tiles on the floor/walls of the recently finished bathroom which is directly above the wall which is coming down. DH is project managing the kitchen

The problem is I have visions of me in my "Country Living" style kitchen, wearing a Cath Kidston pinny, gorgeous fat cheeked baby in terry towelling nappy and chubby knees on hip whilst pulling a tray of freshly baked muffins out of my cream range oven - none of the above is likely but a gal can dream can't she? More likely to see me ramming ready meal into microwave 30 seconds before DH walks through the door, then thrusting baby into his arms saying "I've had a s**t day, the baby won't stop crying and the boiler's gone on the blink - your turn now".

CazEM Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that goes through a nightly ritual of pillow arranging and plumping - have got a perfect sized one for under bump and a v shaped one for my head/back, then another one between my knees - jees, there's hardly any room for DH in the bed and if I have to turn over in the night it's like a military operation

Good luck for anyone scanning today

Am 22+1 now and it seems strange that I won't get to see my "surprise" until it's birthday now.

DH was very sweet yesterday - I called him to say I had some bad news (was only to say that the new fridge he had his eye on wasn't in stock), and then said he thought I was going to say that something had happened to the baby - said it was the worst second of his life and his stomach dropped - I think it hit him then that he loves the bump - awwww.

Have now got my MATB1 so will be doing my letter this week to work advising when I plan to leave/using up holiday entitlement. That should be fun...

CherryPie3 · 30/03/2010 14:05

Dibby That bathroom looks fabulous - you have the same wall tiles as us!!! Our bathroom still unfinished as yet but heres hoping it'll be sorted before baby comes, or at least before christmas

Your dh sounds so sweet, awwwww!!!! . Amazing how it suddenly does 'hit' them!! My dh was so worried on Friday when that idiot hit me, I defnitely felt very protected!! Bless the male side of the species eh?

vitapulchra · 30/03/2010 14:59

Jenny I am so very sorry about your loss, and it must be terribly difficult. I've been thinking lots about you and hoping you find the comfort you need.

Emster I would keep trying to convince your dh of the wisdom of a last holiday before LO arrives. My dh and I spent a small fortune going to the Maldives before our first was born, and it was totally worth it. We will not be able to spend that much money or fly that far for many, many years! A holiday with a baby can be great but is totally, completely, logistically different from one without. Even just a very few days together, not too far away--all that matters is that you're together and not home. Hope he comes round to see your point of view. A few days surely can't hurt!

Sigh. I'm awaiting my scan on the 14th. Seems far away but I can occasionally feel LO kicking away, which is very comforting. My in-laws (i.e., trusty babysitters) will be gone then, and my son is on holiday from school, so we might have to take a 5, 3 and .10-year-olds into the scan with us. Seem ridiculous? My dh thinks it would be hell, but I don't think it's such a big deal (they're really quite obedient). What does anyone think? I've not taken them to a scan before.

I've also been struggling a bit after realising I gained 21 lbs in my first 17 weeks of pg. Considering that I started off this pg heavier than ever and the "real" weight gain is yet to come, I'm now trying to properly buckle down and take better care of myself. Already my maternity clothes are starting not to fit me (my MATERNITY CLOTHES!!!!!) and the thought of buying a larger size for my 4th and last pg is far too depressing. My bump looks at least 28 weeks, and I'm only 18 weeks. I know that everyone says oh, go on, it's time to relax about cravings and just give in, but now I think if I don't try harder I'll get PND. Sorry for the whinge but I've been feeling seriously upset about it. Please feel free to cyber-slap me if I'm being ridiculous. Right, whinge over. Over to you lovely ladies.

CazEM · 30/03/2010 15:39

Ahhhh I hate food shopping! Why are there always such stupid people in supermarkets?! I find I totally lose paitence by aisle 3 with everyone dillydallying and leaving bloody trolleys in the middle of the aisles and having selective deafness when you say excuse me. Grrr I have total trolley rage now and wish I hadn't ventured into Asda on my own - what on earth possessed me to do it?!! Oh yeh thats right I want to back some fairy cakes and a sponge this afternoon! So thought I may as well do the shopping while I get all the bits for that too!! Right more calm thoughts needed! Haha!

Dibby - its the same in our bed, DH is moaning theres no room left for him and I remind him its only going to get worse! Haha!

vita don't worry hun, I can see me going up another size in maternity clothes by the end because some of the tops I've been wearing are already a little snug around my ever expanding bust.... Your not being ridiculous at all, I find myself worrying just how big I'm going to get when I see people at exactly the same stage as me but their bumps barely visiable. But remember what a beautiful little miracle you are growing and that its so worth all the weight gain and that everyone grows/gains at different rates, maybe you've just done the bulk of it now and you'll level out for a bit!

Right onto baking. Long time since I've attempted fairy cakes, if they taste good I will leave some in the corner later on!

thecoffeelady · 30/03/2010 15:53

Right, I am back.

We are still team Surprise!

Have to go back in 2 weeks for another scan as puddin was non compliant and wouldn't let the sonographer look at its face and kept covering its face with its hands and despite being able to see all 4 heart chambers she couldn't get a clear enough image, so we are off to the hospital again on the 14th April

Iwantanothertwix · 30/03/2010 16:06

does anyone have any advice/experience with the arms reach cot? how long can your little one use it?

Bubbabear · 30/03/2010 16:06

vita I'm trying desperately to patiently await my scan (on 16th) too but it's getting harder & harder! Although I do have a fetal doppler that I bought a while back after a few scares which helps as I can listen to bubs heartbeat whenever I get jealous about everyone else going for scans! Lol

I don't really have much of an idea about weight gain as this is my first & I guess u never know how ur body is going to react & just have to go with it. I started showing at about 11/12 weeks & had a big growth spurt at about 15 weeks (& had to put up with abt a week of people telling me my belly had really 'popped' recently!) Since that, 'bump growth' seems to have slowed down. Either that or i'm just getting used to having a big tummy! Also a friend of mine (who has 3 boys) said with one of them it seemed her bump grew very quickly & then baby grew into the space! So who knows! Like CazEM said, just the thought of LO wriggling around in there is enough to make me smile x

ElusiveMoose · 30/03/2010 16:14

Hi everyone,

Jenny your experience sounds horrendous. I'm so, so sorry for your loss. I do hope you continue to get the support you need and that you can give yourself lots of time to heal.

Dibby your bathroom looks gorgeous. As someone who is currently looking at bathroom fittings for her loft conversion, I would be very interested to know where you got your stuff, particularly the shower cubicle (it's just what I want) and the tall storage thing (probably no room in ours, but I love it anyway ). And can I just get this straight - do I understand correctly that you have three showers in one bathroom - a fixed head and a hand-held attachment in the cubicle, plus another hand-held one in the bath??? If so, then massive . You must be the cleanest woman in the world .

coffeelady glad everything was ok, and actually quite jealous that you get another chance to see the baby in a couple of weeks!

CazEM I know exactly what you mean, and that's why I'm a total supermarket snob who will only shop in Waitrose. I would like to emphasise that I am very much NOT rich, but I made it quite clear to DH that when I gave up work, the one sacrifice I was not prepared to make was giving up my Waitrose habit. I would rather live on special offer spam from Waitrose than caviar from anywhere else. Shopping there is such a blissfully calm and relaxing experience, even with a toddler. I had to go to Sainsbury's yesterday for something particular (NB my local Sainsbury's is an especially grotty one), and the whole thing made me very stressed. It also amused me greatly that my DS, who normally loves charging around the aisles, flatly refused to get out of the trolley in Sainsbury's . Yes, it looks like we're both spoilt supermarket snobs now .

Dibbydab · 30/03/2010 16:56

How rude of me, I didn't say hello to our new ladies - Elusive*, yes I have 3 showers in that little bathroom - the one on the bath is so I can wash my hair in the bath - hate having to rinse my hair in "used" bath water, it never feels as clean, also need it for hosing down the dog after he's rolled in nasty stuff...

The extra one in the cubicle is also to make cleaning it easier as the drencher head can't be moved (well it swivels a little bit, but that's all) The shower cubicle is from Coram (800mm quadrant tray). The storage unit is from Homebase, it's quite narrow so fits nicely between the basin and the shower - the novelty of putting toothbrushes and toothpaste away is wearing a bit thin now though.

Am of your loft conversion - at the moment ours is being filled up with crap things of sentimental value so we can clear the baby's room out. Am trying to convince DH that baby would love Laura Ashley wallpaper and fittings...

Elusive and Caz at your supermarket snobbery - can't persuade you to peruse your local Lidl then? Go on, you know you want to - our local one is like being in an episode of Shameless, but I still use it 'cos I love some of their stuff.

CazEM · 30/03/2010 17:09

Haha - I don't think it would matter what supermarket I was in Dibby - super posh or super not, I'm sure there would be annoying people anywhere I go! I just don't do food shopping and navagating around loads of people full stop! No idea what possessed me to go without DH! Won't be making that mistake again in a hurry!! Maybe I should take up home delivery or something, but then I would feel super lazy considering we live literally half a mile from Asda... hmmm...

Fairy cakes are smelling lovely in the oven, and will be joining the table shortly!

CherryPie3 · 30/03/2010 17:27

Congrats on all scans guys - more surprises

Ducky That kind of explains the lack of movement you've had - should start increasing in the next few weeks tho as baby starts testing it's muscles

Foxy Thanks for posting more stats hun - I've popped them on my list for you!

at you supermarket snobs!! . I'm an ASDA shopper but also get very stressed at the hustle and bustle - which is why I shop online - much easier . I do pop in on my lunch break or after work sometimes cos it's not too bad in small doses

Ooooh, tiny piece of news as well - after my miserable start to the day I've managed to taxt/talk dh into taking me on holiday before I pop Whoop!

Told him he's taking me to Barcelona before I get too pregnant to fly - thinking sometime around 30/31 weeks. The cut off is 32-36 weeks apparently so I should be fine but will have a word with my mw before I he books and pays for it

Fairy cakes decorated with icing sugar and hundreds and thousands! Enjoy!

Glad to hear DH has agreed to take you away Cherry

We're going up to North Wales for a weekend (2nd weekend in May) before I feel to big for long journeys in the car. Can't afford a weekend abroad as well as everything else we have to pay for for Baby (and still paying off our wedding from last summer!) so a travel lodge weekend it is! Muchly looking forward to going though! Booking tomorrow!

Oooh Fairy cakes sound yummy!
Hi everyone. Glad to see theres lots of us due around end of August now! I've had my midwifes appointment now and I'm just waiting for my 20 week scan! It seems to be taking so long to get here!

I just had my first negative comment today- someone advised me I wouldnt be able to cope with labour! It's not as if I have a choice- baby cant stay in there!

Welcome Foxy and Hattie

Joey, what a thing to say, some people just don't think. How do they know you won't cope with the pain? Every labour is different.

I have been re-reading my Lamaze book today about natural childbirth and it really is very inspiring - it reminded me why I was so desperate for a natural birth with my twins. I really recommend it for anyone who is a bit anxious about the birth - it explains the process really well and tells you why you go through all that pain. It is this book Giving Birth With Confidence - I love it.

Scan on Thursday

Thanks Neenz. I will definately give that book a read! I think people assume I wont cope because I'm tiny- 5ftish!

Great news cherry - I also want to go to Barcelona! I think you need a doctor's letter after about 28 weeks but should be able to fly up to about 35 weeks.
