Welcome to the thread, before the thread, before the final thread where I give birth.

And in case you're needing it here is the Post-natal thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PacificDogwood · 21/03/2010 13:45

Congratulations, DB, sooo pleased you had a nice birth experience and cannot wait to hear the details ! Amazed at the weight and, once again, lovely names.

BelgianMummy · 21/03/2010 14:15

Congratulations DB! My DD's middle name is Amelie. Sounds like you had a wonderful experience.

Henrietta, it does sound promising!!

I am actually feeling really good today. The sun is shining and everything is just lovely. I don't think anything is going to happen so we are just enjoying the last quiet weekend day with just the three of us.

I'm going to see my consultant tomorrow for a sweep and then on Tuesday he will try and break my waters. If that all fails, a c-section it will be. So I am going to see my little boy very soon. Can't wait!!!

I hope you are all enjoying the first day of spring. We are going to have spring babies! Hooray!!!

BusyMissIzzy · 21/03/2010 15:57

Congrats to Mumof2.5 and DB (saw your FB photo, he's adorable ). Dalrymps should be in here (or on postnatal thread) soon too...?

Shroomer · 21/03/2010 16:32

BelgianMummy - Just being nosey, but why won't they try to induce you rather than going straight for a c-section?

Walnut8 · 21/03/2010 18:20

Congratulations designerbaby - I'm also looking forward to reading your birth story! So glad that it was different this time.

Belgianmummy that was a lovely post Perhaps my baby has been waiting for proper Spring! Good luck for the sweep tomorrow.

rindercella is your bump holding on?

Still another day of nothing much. Bump has been going rock hard on and off but nothing painful.

BelgianMummy · 21/03/2010 19:49

Shroomer - Because I had a previous c-section and then they can't use any drugs to induce. It could put too much pressure on the scar which could then tear as a result.

DH, DD and I went for a long and vigorous walk in the park this afternoon. As a result I now have a stone hard bump that won't relax and a little boy in there who is not liking it and kicking and punching me like crazy .... [hmmm], not sure that was what I was hoping for.

22 March is also very nice 22.03.10 ... I like it! C'mon baby!!!

Pretty stone hard bump here too, but still nothing more than regular uncomfortable BHs every 15 mins...bit worried though, what if they suddenly turn into real ones very quickly - being my 4th and DH being 1 hours drive away in week.....dont want a close call like annamama...

all you others who are waiting cheering you on, cos officially I cant complain yet not being term

Walnut8 · 22/03/2010 10:38

Hmm where did my post go?

I had four or so hours of stone-hard bump last night too before bed, and got a bit excited when I read your post Pixie! But of course nothing for the rest of the night Had a RL tea this morning and it's pretty solid again but I refuse to get excited this time. How long was it after having a hard bump that you went into proper labour Pixie?

So bored and getting SO frustrated.

Where is everyone?? Belgian I hope things are moving for you?

annamama · 22/03/2010 10:58

I think I had stone hard bump a few days before going into labour. And stronger BHs. Another sign was being extremely tired and moody. And then getting ever so slight cramps which eventually turned into contractions, on and off.

Good luck there in the "waiting room"!

BelgianMummy · 22/03/2010 11:03

My baby is ready to come out and I think he is trying. Unfortunately my body is not helping him. I had lots of irregular contractions last night which meant I got no sleep again.
They stopped however and my consultant had a little investigation and couldn't feel any progress at all. Breaking my waters won't even be an option at this rate tomorrow.

So an ELCS it will be tomorrow. I'm feeling quite down as I really tried everything to get the VBAC I wanted, but it seems my body is great at making and growing babies, but just not good at getting them out. After my DD's birth I had a scan of my pelvis and it was 'borderline' which means that my chances for a VBAC would be greatly reduced once I went overdue anyway... so it isn't really a surprise.

At least I know I will be able to hold my little boy tomorrow! Plus they will clean up the scar from the last c-section, which didn't heal so well. I also won't have to go through a long labour and no tearing! Lots of positives to focus on.

Sorry about the me me me post. I hope all your hard bumps turn into full blown labour soon.

Walnut8 · 22/03/2010 13:23

Belgianmummy I'm sorry to hear you are so down. Don't apologise for the post!

I'm a little naive when it comes to all this, but having just heard about a friend's very long and dramatic labour which ended in a c-section, I think your list of positives about an ELCS sounds spot on. You'll get your little boy tomorrow, no nasty tearing or labour pain plus you know what to expect from a c-section - during and for recovery etc.

Annamamma just saw your pic on the PN thread - beautiful

Where are swings and shroomer?! And Henrietta? Are you off having babies behind my back?

Shroomer · 22/03/2010 14:33

hmmm... all this talk about labour's disadvantages isn't helping! But I know what you mean about c-section v labour. I'm still here. Have now batch cooked lentil soup and don't think there's room for it in the freezer due to all the other batch cooking I've done. I'm 41 weeks today, and having a sweep tomorrow (if the cervix is 'favourable').

annamama · 22/03/2010 14:58

Hope the sweep will work Shroomer!

Henrietta · 22/03/2010 16:56

Sorry no babies here...
seeing the DH bouncing didnt work so far today Ive tried: a long walk to see if I can get things started, lifted (heavy) buggy out of attic, washed buggy, washed kitchen floor, drank raspberry tea....still nothing!

shroomer hope sweep works for you
Belgianmummy wishing you all the best, like you say at the end of the day we want to come home well, with a healthy baby. [hug emoticon]
walnut hugs for you too.

Our darling Sofia Julia was born on March 12th at 8:07PM. As suspected, quite a large baby measuring 53 cm, and weighing in at 3.78KG. Sorry I haven't posted earlier. I went into labor on the 8th in the AM and it lasted 4 days before I finally gave birth. Nothing like I expected. Challenging to say the least. I was discharged from hospital only a few days ago. Trying to catch my breath and settle into our new life as parents. Will write more on the post-natal thread when I get the chance.

All the best for those still waiting for their bundles of joy and congrats to those already cuddling their little ones.

annamama · 22/03/2010 17:53

And my DD2 is happy to share with them too!

Yay, let's hope for more babies!

By the way, who holds the record for posting closest to delivery? My below post was made 4 hrs 5 mins before birth. Anyone else wanna claim the title?

By annamama Thu 18-Mar-10 15:55:44
Haha, no but I am still having strong contractions and getting regular between 5-8 mins now. Quite painful too, will take some paracetamol. Have phoned hospital but they reckon wait at least until a steady 5 mins apart. Sending some labour hormones to everyone else who needs 'em...

annamama · 22/03/2010 17:54

Wow, congrats Iwonka! Oh what a long labour, I know what that feels like, must have been awful. Tell us all later!

Congratulations iwonka - that sounds like a tough labour. Glad you've made it home now.

Don't worry Walnut - I'm still here! I went for a sweep this morning and am now booked in for further monitoring this week and if nothing happens by Sunday - induction.
Cervix is still posterior and fairly long so don't think anything's going to happen in the next 5 minutes although m/w said it had softened a bit, so fingers crossed the sweep did something.

Good luck belgianmummy. You're right to stay focuessed on having the baby. In a way I feel better now knowing I will have an induction on Sun/Mon if nothing else happens in the meantime. That certainty is easier to deal with than endless waiting - hope you feel similarly.

Good luck shroomer with your sweep. Mine was surprisingly painless, although this may mean it didn't work!

Hi to anyone else still waiting.

Shroomer · 22/03/2010 19:05

Henrietta You've tried quite a few things there - be careful lifting heavy things mind. I think that simply pushing a full shopping trolley around a week ago has given me SPD. Now I can't even contemplate doing a long walk, which is a pity.

Iwonka I was wondering what had happened. Congratulations!

We just have to hear now how Dalrymps' induction went on Friday.

Arcadie · 22/03/2010 19:31

Hi guys - just lurking occasionally as I'm still feeling very blue about no baby ( and no - I've still got 4 days before I'm even DUE). Hope you're all doing well.

Dalrymps has had her baby fret not but I'll let her tell you all the details when she posts.

Whoohoo for pacific's DS4! Ah, yes, I remember you mentioning the name Joe... I actually got an email this morning from my friend Joe with some snaps of his year old DS attached (and when I say 'snaps', well Joe's a director (film) so they always have a professional look). COnratulations! I'll be joining you soon (I hope!). Well, not in a DS4... but a baby.

Yup, these suckers are at four minutes now and hurt quite a lot more. Hoping DP hurries.

I'd love to update until popping anna but my phone doesn't have internet thingy. That is to say, I don't know how to do it. blush

TMI ALERT! Darn it, at the end of every contraction I have to sit on the toilet and 'eliminate' a little more... oh well, better now than on the delivery table!"

James born 19.07, so 3 hours 4mins and...12 secs! I pip you, pixie

Oh, and it totally didn't stop it happening during delivery . The midwife tried to deny it had happened as I wailed in shame but I told her I knew it had and to not lie to me so she conceeded I had but it probably wasn't as bad as I thought it was... Yeah, right. Eh, I know it's all in a days work for them but DP keeps on delightedly reminding me that I crapped myself in front of him.

This child is literally hardly ever off the breast leaving me exhausted and in no position to post. Obviously hearty congrats to all the new mamas since my last post and lots of easy labour vibes to all you waiting to pop!

Walnut8 · 22/03/2010 19:38

Four days Iwonka! Wow. Huge congratulations. I'm really looking forward to the birth story when you have time to post.

I would also love to know how Dalrymps went with her induction.

Hi Swings! I hope your sweep this morning has moved things along. Just out of interest how long is a "fairly long" cervix? I think my midwife said mine was just under 2.5cm on Friday.

Now just waiting to hear from Scootergrrrl and rindercella I think (although I'm guessing rinders may have popped?). And Arcadie - I hope you haven't deserted us!!
