Welcome to the thread, before the thread, before the final thread where I give birth.

And in case you're needing it here is the Post-natal thread

Congrats Shroomer! Sorry it didn't go as planned, but sounds like you're doing well now Look forward to hearing all about it on the PN thread..

Heeelllooo.... Echo... echo...cho...oo..

Well, in case somebody still comes checking in here: congratulations, shroomer, hope you and your little boy are doing ok now and that things were not too traumatic for you or him.

Looking forward to seeing you on PN .

I dropped off the list some time ago, but just for the record, baby Catherine Emily was born Friday 2nd April at 11.02pm weighing 8lb 14oz.
Her arrival was pretty traumatic, a helpful midwife partially ruptured my waters during a sweep and as I didn't go into labour within 48 hrs, I was booked in to be induced.
Labour did not progress very well and baby was back to back, so i swiftly ditched gas & air for epidural.
Still not much progress. Baby's heart rate irratic and she would not turn.
Finally, late in the evening they decided as heart rate had dropped dangerously low that c-secion was the only way baby was going to come out. They couldn't get spinal block in so had to put me under general
However, despite all of that Catherine is healthy and happy and I am just glad it's all over and I have my beautiful baby girl to go with my beautiful boy.

Big congratulations to everyone on the thread on their respective arrivals. I will try and get myself over to the PN thread in due course...I may need post-c-section advice from those of you who have been there before me.

lovely to hear of your new arrival 74slackb - sorry to hear that it ended in emcs though, especially hard when you already have one to look after at home. I've found recovery post cs much slower second time round but take it easy - no lifting, other than your baby, definitely no hoovering, no driving and let other people help you as much as possible. Lovely name too - I wanted Catherine/Katherine but it was vetoed by DH
See you over in PN with the others.

slackbladder, congratulations on the safe arrival of your daughter ! And lovely name, too!

Sorry to hear your delivery was NOT what anybody would wish for, but hopefully you will recover well.

I had an emCS 6 years ago to deliver DS2 at 31 weeks (I had placenta praevia).
I found recovery fairly straightforward, took Diclofenac/Paracetamol for first few weeks and found the wound was an awful lot more comfortable once my staples had been removed after 1 week.
Do remember you had major abdominal surgery whenever you are tempted 'to just get on with things' - like Smac said, take it physically easy, support your scar with a hand if you know you are going to sneeze/cough/laugh etc. Do not be tempted to do sit-ups or other abdominal exercises, certainly not before 6 weeks and even then you are better doing more gentle things, like remembering to tense your core muscles when walking. Pilates is v good.
And, finally, do your damndest to not get constipated.... I found Allbran and fresh orange juice sufficed.

Hopefully see you on the PN thread in due course.

well done slackbladder!!! glad you have a beautiful bonny healthy girl and also that you are recovering ok - come join us on the PN thread when you can, it's still a bit mad as and when we have the energy to craze it up!!

Pingpong · 09/04/2010 21:56

oh yes how could I forget that invaluable piece of advice pacific !!!!
Do not let yourself get constipated - I found the co-codemol really blocked me up and got myself in a terrible state and readmitted to hospital.
Salt baths have been recommended to me or some tea tree oil in the bath to help the wound heal and avoid infection.
