sassy - GTT is Glucose Tolerance Test - basically tests to see if you have pregnancy related diabetes. If you have a normal BMI, you might not be offered it - my midwife said I will need to have it in a few weeks because I am a porker am a little plump... But I think some areas offer it as standard, regardless of your weight/BMI. I had it last time I was pregnant, seem to remember you have to fast and then drink some lucozade and then have a blood test. Or something. Gogle it, am sure you'll get a better explanation!

Have had such a lovely lazy weekend in the sun but have managed to get sunburnt shoulders and my ankles are swelling up already in the heat. Dread to think what I'll look like by August if this summer is a scorcher...

Debs75 · 25/05/2010 09:18

I wondered how they will cut the trust funds. In the paper it just said they were cutting it from today so I assumed that yesterday was the cut off and all babies born today onwards would not get it. What is the reasoning for giving August 1st? It means none of our babies will be entitled to the full amount.

So gladd the heat has broken today, am feeling so much more comfortable

SweetTea · 25/05/2010 10:00

Morning all. I'm glad for the cooler weather today, the heat is just too much to cope with already!

I'm 22+4, off for a midwife check up today Am very interested to see how big i am as not been measured yet, but i swear i'm bigger this time around!

I'm going to check out New Look's maternity range as we are sooo limited here with places that sell Mat wear. Gap have just stopped stocking their Mat range in our local store which is really annoying as there is hardly anywhere to buy stuff anyway!! Rant, Rant!

LadyRabbit · 25/05/2010 10:39

Noooo! They can't cut the Health in Pregnancy Grant! I'm only 10 days away from qualifying, and ridiculous as it is, I have been looking forward to receiving something for once after years of conscientious NI contributions and being made to wait for tax rebates that take an age to come and IR finding a reason to make it less than expected. This was my one chance! No! I think I'm going to have a tantrum now. Hadn't looked into the trust thing, it seemed like a bit of a red herring when it was launched, ie. it looks like we're giving you a tax break but while you're not looking we'll raise it somewhere else....

Welcome new ladies, twin ladies I feel for you especially in this heat. I am anxiously bidding on eBay right now for an air conditioner and I shall throw a pregnant lady fit if someone beats me to it....! All good here, been busy so not checking in, very tired from disco dancing baby who wakes me up around 5 each morning and doesn't rest til midnight. The kicks are getting stronger all the time, which is really lovely. I too have to admit the day has come for maternity jeans as I am no longer able to do my usual ones up - but maternity jeans + elasticated top = juvenile old person's clothing horror. I just can't do it. They scare me, I fear I'll find them so comfortable that I'll start wearing Dr Scholl sandals with them and things will never be the same again. Is this what pregnancy can do to a woman's fashion sense?!

23+2

megonthemoon · 25/05/2010 11:29

Hello ladies. Please can I join?

I'm 24+2 (due 12th Sept) with DC2. I have a DS who is 2.2 - he's Leo by the way in case that helps with the name lists I'm normally found lurking on March 2008 postnatal board but figured I should join in the pregnancy fun here - far nicer than dealing with a temperamental toddler

Anomaly scan last week (very late!) - all well with the baby, and looks like we are having a DD! Fabulous, as we always wanted one of each, but scary as we cannot agree on a name at all for a DD.

Re maternity clothes, I lived in dresses and combat trousers last time as I couldn't find jeans or skirts that were comfortable, or wouldn't fall down. Finding excatly the same this time - wrap dresses and Dorothy PErkins combat trousers are the way forward for me!

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 25/05/2010 12:28

LadyRabbit pah! I am also 23+2 and I said goodbye to my "normal" jeans weeks ago.... Though I am huge, and growing every day. It's my first, and I am so grateful for my pregnancy yoga class as the ladies there are all different sizes so I don't feel too much like a heifer.

I don't much like hot weather. I need to stock up on vest tops and ice lollies.

sassy34264 · 25/05/2010 12:29

Thanks bella. Never heard of it. I was overweight when i had my dd 10 years ago but maybe they didn't do it then.

I love the sun regardless of my size ladyrabbit so no worries about this heat for me - i'll just do less! ha.

Chance would be a fine thing. Moving out of renting into my mum's house this weekend. Then will be moving again in a few weeks (when the house we bought in March is ready).

DP is in armed forces, so spends all week down south, drives 250 miles at weekend, spends all weekend working on the house and then drives back Sunday night. It's a shame. He's not used to having to do everything cos i usually get it done. But being heavily pregnant and having SPD is putting a stop to that. I'm resigned to only packing things that are at my height level, cos no way can i bend or climb. Feeling like a useless heifer!!!!!!

SkaterGrrrrl · 25/05/2010 13:43

Welcome meg!

Asos online has good maternity clothes and they have free delivery.

HI all,

Am 26 weeks Friday - cant believe how quickly it's going!

Starting to get tingly hands of an evening, but other than tha plus tirdness all is well

Bit late in signing on here, but better late than never

Jaysfourth · 25/05/2010 21:54

hi Mrsdelany

hi all other newbies joining us

Hi all oldies ;)

just checking in. Been having real problems with my hips and lower back. Can barely walk in the mornings after lying down all night.... not that i am getting much sleep with the pain either I am seeing a physio but nothing seems to be helping at the moment, not good news when i still have three under four to look after.... anyway, have been feeling sorry for myself and didnt want to come on here and moan and groan, so i wont!! (much anyway)

cant believe how quickly time is now going, i am 27 weeks today, and whn i think about how many weekends till birth ( 13 ) it kinda shocks me into thinking about doing some stuff towards getting prepared!! ah well will all come out in the wash.

Hope everyone is ok. x

Swordfishtrombones · 25/05/2010 23:06

hi everyone

glad everyone is sounding much more cheery and thinking ahead to names and baby paraphernalia.

Sorry to hear about your aches and pains Jaysfourth - what a bummer. Did you have any problems with the other DC? I have a friend who had 3 close together and she had problems with her last pregnancy because she got too much of whatever hormone relaxes your ligaments as her body hadn't got back to normal. It meant she was too elastic!

I had a really achey pelvis quite early on now but have been absolutely fine since, unlike my previous two pregnancies where I felt like my hips were being cranked open when I lay down at night. I adored my long maternity Big V pillow.

What a lot of new people! September is a popular month! Welcome everyone.

MammyG - you posted about a low placenta several pages back. I was told mine was low at the 20 wk scan and have to go back at 34 wks for another look. I spoke to my midwife and she said that about 80-85% of them spotted at 20wks do move up, so it's pretty good odds. Let's keep our fingers crossed...

Double buggies - DD1 and DD2 are 20 months apart and I had a Phil & Ted's E3 which was brilliant. I'll be using it again this time for just the baby as DD2 is 3 now and a very big girl! She hasn't been in the pushchair for months. The P&T cocoon for babies is lovely to keep them nice and warm. I'll use a sling at first (hopefully) and then be able to wrap him or her up all snuggly for winter.

Gosh, have just seen the time. Better go and get some sleep. night night.

Have been pretty lucky so far with aches and pains, I had back pain in the mornings a few weeks ago but my yoga instructor taught me a stretch over my birthing ball which really helped and it hasn't come back since!

I'm the same Jaysfourth when you think of it as how many weeks are left its scary! I have so much to do before the baby arrives, most of it not baby related- I'm pretty much sorted for him, but it's all things I put off because they're not much fun

We are going on holiday Sunday for a week so am getting excited now, although I know it will be over before I know it!

Been thinking a lot about breastfeeding this last week, I had a lot of trouble feeding my son and really not sure now if it was a latching problem or not. I had inverted nipples when pregnant with him and I think that didn't help, ended up with thrush and mastitis but was all healed and no probs after he was 10 weeks. I don't want to assume because I fed him for 15months that it will be easier this time and I am only taking 2 weeks maternity leave due to being self-employed and I don't want that to affect my chances. Obviously I won't know until I try but it's playing on mind.

megonthemoon · 26/05/2010 15:47

Jaysfourth - I too am suffering bad sleep because of pelvis/lower back pains and then throughout the day. I'm not in agony, but lots of discomfort, particularly when moving between sitting and standing, or lying and sitting, or rolling over in bed. Some advantages - can't get down to the dishwasher at the moment without huffing and puffing, so DH is now loading and emptying it more as he can't bear the sounds coming from me as I creak along!

I did nothing for preparing for this baby until scan last Weds - had mc in November, and been paralysed with fear until now to be honest. Suddenly seems so close! Have now sorted through DS's clothes and separated the really boyish stuff (not too much - very proud of my unisex purchasing ability last time!), and finally tackling subject of whether/what double buggy to get.

weirdbird · 26/05/2010 17:01

I am counting down the days, am now huge in that people are asking how long I have to go!

Am still anaemic which can't be helping! But am tired, grumpy and permenantly uncomfortable if not in pain.

For those with back / pelvis issues I can only sing the praises of my osteopath, she got me through my last pregnancy, I had physio with my first and it was a complete waste of time. Am so glad the Health in Preg grant is not going yet as that was going to pay for my Osteopathy!

Gosh I am depressing today, I think my weekend away, however relaxing and lovely has left me exhausted...

Hello all,
its been a very long time since I last posted
I chickened out on reading posts when some MNers were sadly MC-ing, which know makes me crap but was too close to home!

Anyhow I'm BACK promise!
Now things are definately established, I'm now 25 week and having DD number 2 !
Continuing to be monitored for pre-elcampsia but generally bar the weeble-ness all going well!

I'll catch up on posts ASAP! But not off for a nap, good to see so many blooming ladies!

Monstermuncher · 26/05/2010 21:21

Hi September mums

The weeks are flying by and I've not been on MN for ages, good to see there are lots of new folk.

Just wondering if anyone else is getting Braxton Hicks? I didn't get any the first time around but have started to get a very tight feeling in the bump from time to time whish I think must be BH. Bit scary the first couple of times that it happened, it wasn't painful just very strange. Do they get worse as you progress?

comixminx · 26/05/2010 21:25

I am also rather counting down - work is a bit less busy than it was, mostly, but partly that's because I am a bit less interested in it than sometimes! I have something else on my mind, after all...

We're nearly starting to get into the third trimester - very exciting!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/05/2010 07:56

I've had them since 19 weeks Monstermuncher and didn't have them last time at all. I get them a lot when I'm busy which is a annoying!

Debs75 · 27/05/2010 12:14

I'm getting Braxton Hicks as well, usually at night or after I have been on my feet a lot.
Still not heard about my GTT so am hoping that means good news.

Swordfishtrombones · 27/05/2010 12:39

Monstermuncher - I've been having BH for a few weeks now. Wasn't sure at first (you'd think by DC3 I'd be able to tell!) but now they are definite - I can feel my belly tighten. I seem to get them just after having a wee (sorry if that's tmi!) I remember when I was in labour with DD1 the midwives kept sending me upstairs to go for a wee becaus they could see that both those things seemed to make me have a contraction - I must be very odd!

Weirdbird - sorry about the anaemia. Are you taking iron tablets? My sister highly recommended spatone sachets which really helped her. I think they are better on your stomach than iron tablets, although when I got anaemic with DD2 I had no probs with the iron. I think it makes a lot of people constipated though.

I'm very cheerful today - one of my neighbours hadn't noticed I'm pregnant. When you get to 6 months it's quite nice to still be able to surprise people. She must need new glasses, but hey.

comixminx · 27/05/2010 14:05

I've had some BH too though mostly not that noticeable.

Re constipation - at my last GP appointment I got a prescription for Fybogel sachets, and I can say that they make a big and welcome difference! So go for the iron if it's needed, and get the Fybogel too while you're at it.

Its sods law isn't it. I come off the computer and the hospital MW rings to tell me I have GD. Have to go to clinic on Tuesday to see how bad it is and how they will treat it. I was really hoping for an easy time this time, now it looks like they will want to induce me early again

bellabelly · 27/05/2010 17:26

Sorry to hear that Debs75 - fingers crossed for you that it's only v mild. Why does it perhaps mean being induced? Is it to do with the baby's growth?

bananastew · 27/05/2010 19:23

Hi all! I've just had a quick catch up. I can't remember who posted what but I also get a lot of pelvic pain, hip pain, coccyx pain & back pain! Like someone said its due to the hormone relaxin that softens the ligaments of the pelvis so it can bend any which way for the birth!!! If you find it particularly bad at night try wearing a satin nightie! I'm going to buy one tomorrow! They're great. you just slide over!!!

I've also been getting braxton hicks! They're wierd. especially if i'm laying down, its as if I cann see the shape of the baby!

Anyway. better go. I'm flying off to Turkey at the weekend. Its my wedding anniversary today. 4 years and not so D H has forgotten!!!!! 4 years, 2 babies (nearly) & not even a card!! I know a wonderful jewellery shop in Turkey. Here I come!!!!
