Nymphadora · 16/03/2010 09:46

How many weeks are you abfabT? Are you expanding? That would be a symptom!

Nymphadora · 16/03/2010 09:48

I'm wondering whether to order clothes for my hols or to try & manage with what I have. Two weeks on Friday. I have bumpbands and thats it.

Elsa123 · 16/03/2010 09:52

Abfabt- I totally understand your concern- perhaps based on that you could go and see your GP? Maybe get a blood test to assess levels of that hormone whatever its called. Just to check and maybe make you realise you do have some symptoms do you have any of the following?

Tender boobs, slightly bigger nipples that are darker with lumpy bits? I only have the tender bigger boobs at the moment.

Darker bits?

Bloating? Constipation? Wind (more than usual)? Burping like a champion beer drinker?

Any tiredness? Dizziness?

Even then, all the book say that some women sail through early pregnancy with no symptoms. I have the BLOAT accompanied by its associated side effects and its kind of lucky I'm on my own during the week as I wouldn't be pleasant company and I probably gas the dog as it is! I have the tender boobs, but I'm not really dog tired, haven't felt that nauseous apart from the odd isolated incident.

Oh, I nearly forgot- lots of going to the loo? It didn't feel too bad for me, but now its much worse!

Nymphadora · 16/03/2010 09:54

Oh (am on a roll this am ) and is anyone else thinking about prams? I saw one this am by my house and started another worry! My house has about 8 steps up to it. I can't usually park very near (200-300m up the road) but can drop off stuff. I live on a hill. I am having a section which makes a sling difficult at first. The logistics of getting pram/baby/car seat/shopping etc in and out of the house is going to be interesting!

DillyDora · 16/03/2010 10:05

Hi All

Abfab My stepmum had no symptoms either - some people really don't . Hope all's well lovely,so easy for us to say don't worry but so hard to do!!!

mummyloves thanks for your post about the brown stuff, I have the same - just waiting for scan today or tomorrow. Really trying to be caaaaalm but quite teary and rubbish, I'm wfh today so can hide out a bit, will have to work scan around meetings/training at work which I really can't get out of as they don't know I'm pg. Bah! Gp being an angel for which I am very grateful. Actually I also called EPU and they offered me an appt on Thurs no questions asked and the woman on the phone said if I was really worried I should go to A&E - they were really matter of fact which I appreciated - noone said 'stop fussing you daft trout' which I think I was half expecting.

Big hello to all, lovely to hear about good scans. Still no twins, huh? Sorry about job/house hassles folks and hope the poorlies are getting through the day ok - I feel sick pretty much 24/7 but don't actually throw up, thank God. (and so totally, totally off chocolate - your mini eggs are safe from me!)
xx

loueytbg · 16/03/2010 10:53

Forgot to say last night, those of you who are suffering with brown spotting Dillydora, Mummylovessadie and anyone else I'm missed out (sorry!) - really sorry you are going through it and hope its just one of those really annoying and scary symptoms but that everything is ok on the scan.

AbFab - I think if your mum had no symptoms then your lack of symptoms is totally normal (but no less worrying!). My understanding is that it is rapid and total disappearing of symptoms that is a real cause for concern. I find the week before the scan the worst - you are so close but it still seems ages away. How wonderful that your SIL is going to have a baby just before (assuming you get on with her of course )

Nymph did you try for a VBAC last time? I have an appt to talk to the consultant midwife about it at 32 weeks but I'm almost certain I'm going to go for another section....

Who has a scan next? We must have some twins amongst you (not stirring up trouble at all )

AbFabT · 16/03/2010 10:54

Thank you all so much, bless you all. Nymph, Elsa, Dilly - thank you. x

No, I seriously don't have any discernible symptoms. Maybe I am a sailer-type then. Though my breasts were sore a few weeks ago, and I was weeing more than usual, and my stomach was bubbling like a cauldron for two days around the eight-week mark.

I'm not bloated or gassy (either end). I never have been though. Don't think I'm bigger either, as I am still fitting into my jeans. We don't have scales so I don't know if I've put on weight.
My breasts do feel slightly itchy though! Is that a sign? They don't look or feel bigger to me though, and my bras still fit fine, but maybe the itch is a sign that they are growing and stretching out ever so slightly grasps at straws !

I am 11 weeks and a day (ish - I don't think it's quite right but that's what the midwife calculated going on my last period). I'll have a bit more of a think but yeah, may go to see the doctor, just to set my mind at rest. Though only nine days til my scan.

Nymph, YES! We've found our perfect pram! Both grandmums offered immediately to buy the pram for us, bless them. Anyway, I've actually been wondering how essential a pram is. Does everyone get one, or do some people just use slings? I am wondering if slings aren't more practical for getting around, and keeping baby close and cosy. We haven't got loads of space and the hallway by the front door will be very tight with a pram stuck there, so we are looking into the essentialness of a pram at all.

AbFabT · 16/03/2010 10:59

Oh, I forgot (hm, pregnant head? Maybe!). I have to go to the hospital tomorrow anyway for my bloods (mw didn't take them when I had my booking in appointment)! Yippee! Completely slipped my mind! So I'll get tested then, won't I! Ok, I can hold out til tomorrow.

And when I did have my mw booking in appointment last Wednesday, she did test my wee, so if I wasn't pregnant then, she'd have noticed? Though I think they were mainly just testing for diabetes and glucose levels, weren't they?

Nymph, sorry if you've already said, but where are you going on holiday?

DillyDora · 16/03/2010 11:03

AbFab you're welcome, I'd really agree with Louey's wise words. Also, my boobs haven't done much of anything I must say - disappointed! My nips have got bigger and uncomfy but there really hasn't been a huge improvement in size and they don't really hurt, they're just a bit hard - hope that helps. Don't forget some women go thru the whole thing and don't even know they're up the duff till they give birth (impressive!). Maybe a blood test would be good to put your mind at rest? Would be good to know and then just enjoy feeling well!

Re prams I was hoping that if all is well and this baby is a sticky one I'd use a sling...quite concerned about getting the pram on the tube....

xx

Nymphadora · 16/03/2010 11:07

louey Yes was talked into it mainly due to recovery time (as I had just split up from xh) and then had a shit time in labour no progress so em cs (probably not helped by me hitting the dr when he examined me . I haven't yet had a c-section awake which is probably the biggest decision I'll have to make. I would rather be out as I tend to panic in hospitals and the screen/pulling combo is likely to freak me out which won't be conductive to the op but they prefer you awake and I feel I should try

abfabt You need a pram to carry the shopping! Lots of people keep them in the car, is that an option?
I'm going to NYC! Big blow out (spending wise) holiday. The hope was that I would be pg and unable to fly in the summer and kids have never been abroad and we won't do NYC with a baby/toddler so it feels like the last chance!

AbFabT · 16/03/2010 11:35

louey, I think my first post must have crossed with yours as I have only just seen it. Thank you for your reassuring words too. x

Oh yes, totally get on with SIL. The only 'issue' is that we live many miles apart, so don't get to see each other as often as we would like. A shame, as I'd love for the cousins to be really involved in each other's lives. They still will be, but you know what I mean.

Nymph, we usually do a weekend shop and then just small bits in the week. We only have a small car, but would have to check if any pram we were to get would fit in there - thanks for that idea.

NYC will be awesome! Happy shopping - enjoy!

BUnderTheBonnet · 16/03/2010 11:38

Hi,

Not posted for a while, but things are still ticking along (I assume!).

Sorry to everyone with sickness, worrying symptoms (or lack of) and RL probs.

Can some more people please join with later due dates? I keep moving down the list!

A quick ask - has anyone skied whilst pregnant? I'm going in three weeks, when I'll be 11 weeks pg. Am I being daft? I'm an intermediate skier, so not falling over constantly, but it does happen, and I will be going slightly quicker than complete newbies.

Come on, twin ladies.......

NinthWave · 16/03/2010 11:46

Just popping in to let you all know that I had my dating scan today and all is fine, WOOOHOOOOOO! I was SO nervous - slept really badly last night, loads of nightmares etc. but baby is there, growing happily...I got to hear the heartbeat too, I didn't know ultrasound machines could do that!

Baby is measuring 10w2d but she kept my due date as 9w6d, as it gives me a bit of leeway if I go overdue.

Hooray!

Best wishes for anyone else with scans/appointments this week XXX

great news NinthWave !

I'm very impressed people have decided on prams already, I've had a quick look but felt overwhelmed by all the options really. No idea how to figure out what would be most helpful. I would really like to use a sling a fair bit too if possible, as it looks so convenient, but again I'm totally overwhelmed by all the different varieties...

I'm still feeling good , a bit queasy but keeping (bland) food down for 3rd day in a row. Starting to feel more like a normal person again. Its weird though, whilst I don't miss feeling so horrendous, it was weirdly reassuring to have the symptoms. But my mum said she started improving around this time (10 weeks) too so fingers crossed. Hope other fellow sufferers are starting to improve / improve soon too!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 16/03/2010 12:25

Ninthwave congratulations thats fantastic news! One more to the "doing well" pile I went and signed on today - you'll be pleased to hear I spoke to a human not a comedy sketch extra today, phew!

AbFabT If you are 11 weeks and never had any strong symptoms I would try not to worry (easier said than done I know!) Some women are lucky like that (though I'm afraid to say it makes the chances of twins less ) Its when they suddenly go that things become more concerning.
re prams - the biggest thing is weight. We paid extra to get a light weight pram and are really reallly grateful. Also bulk - there are some huge prams out there that are nightmares to get on buses with. SIL had a silvercross 3in1 (travel delight or something?) that she got around London ok with - it collapsed easily to get on buses and was able to take alot of shopping, but was much heavier and more awkward to push than my country bumpkin 3wheeler Jane!

B My MIL skied pregnant (more telemarking than downhill) It is risky, but less so now than in later when we have more of a bump. I guess gentle slopes and a lot of apres ski would be fun! I know people who rode horses pretty far on, so I guess its how comfortable you feel and how busy the slopes are etc.

Nymphadoramy friends who had em cs were slinging it by 8-10 weeks, but it was impossible before then - they liked having the pram to hang on to whilst recovering!!
Either leave the car seat in the car or get a maxicosi with the fixed base as its so easy to lift in and out, and is really light. You can get the prams that fit them to make it really easy to push up the hill! Re shopping, send your dh out

I'm being opinionated today! sorry

Nymphadora · 16/03/2010 13:01

Lol I'm just thinking I walk through town to & from school & a pram will be easier than carrying it! Though for the first couple of weeks dh should be off so he can do it!

I'm thinking about how life has to just carry on as normal as possible this time. Last time I had a toddler so it didn't matter but this time I will have to do the school run etc

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 16/03/2010 13:18

I am the same Nymph, I will have ds this time and life will have to carry on. Last time I had PND and my life stopped whilst I hung on to his every need - this time ds will have groups to go to, I will be back to work earlier and the baby will have to fit in with it all. Its going to be a very different experience, but dh and I were talking last night about it, and we are both looking forward to the difference. I am also much closer (geographically) to family this time, so will have more visitors and people to share the experience with me. It has to be a good thing!

Redheadgal · 16/03/2010 13:23

Great news Ninthwave. So glad things are going well.

AbFabT - I'm just like you. No obvious symptoms at all. I haven't been sick and felt nauseous on only a handful of occasions. Boobs are normal size and I wouldn't say they were painful. My friend thinks I've put on weight, but I don't think it's a baby bulge. The absence of a period, a (very) faint line on a pg test and my exhaustion are the only indicators. I was hoping the mw would confirm my pregnancy when I saw her, but she just checked my urine for infections. Rather hoped the blood test results would confirm it, but apparently not. I have my scan on Monday, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed there's a baby in there.

B - I have a Norwegian friend who is 5 weeks ahead of me - so 16.5 weeks or so now. When I spoke to her two weeks ago she's spent all weekend on the slopes. I say enjoy yourself while you can!

Ditto for Nymph - enjoy New York! So envious.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 16/03/2010 13:25

lol redheadgirl, my MIL is norwegian - I think they have a different attitude over there!

loueytbg · 16/03/2010 13:54

Ninth FANTASTIC news

B not done it myself but a friend is going this week and she will be 17weeks ish. She is just going to take it easier. I think at 11 weeks it is probably fine because (from what I understand) baby is low down and protected in your pelvis. Take it easy, don't do any black runs and avoid the ice if possible. Oh, and have a fab time.

Nymph - NYC - how fab! I would think a sling would be hard work having had a c-section and it would be easier to push a gbuggy. Was also going to suggest getting a system where the car seat clips onto the base of the buggy to make it easier to get LO into the house. Think we are going to get a bugaboo - have a twin buggy already but I was robbed of my buggy choosing experience last time when I found out it was twins. It isn't a practical buggy for newborns but we didn't have much choice.

tiredfeet - that's when I started feeling better too (but I have been nowhere near as sick as you). Last time the ms peaked at 9 weeks and then got gradually better (with a few setback days). Its followed the same pattern this time. FX you are through the worst of it!

AbFabT · 16/03/2010 14:11

Thanks, SeaShells. Does make me feel a bit better. Though saddened that it probably means no twins for me! Still, I'll be grateful for one!

Redhead, oh good - glad I am not the only one. The bloodtests don't confirm it? I'm going to tell them tomorrow I am concerned, and hopefully they'll set my mind at ease.

My breasts were sore for a few days a couple of weeks ago, mostly tender really, rather than sore, but seemed to pass quite quickly.

The pram I have my eye on looks nice and small, and decently compact. Oh, what to do! Will hold off deciding just yet, especially as who knows, still could be twins!

Nymphadora · 16/03/2010 14:14

I had a travel system last time but want a pram with a carry cot type bit so we can use it as somewhere to sleep during the day rather than bringing a Moses basket up & down ( too many stairs in my house!)

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 16/03/2010 14:18

the Jane with matrix cup is really good Nymph

Elsa123 · 16/03/2010 14:23

Congratulations Ninthwave- so relieving! Gosh, all of you discussing buggies etc! I'm not going to look for a little bit yet- although I have the (no experience or children) opinion that I want something really light, small, dead easy to fold, doesn't get in the way or bug other people in shopping centres, but has bits that I can attach dog leads to. Am wondering if, rather like wanting a supportive padded maternity bra I am asking for the Earth!!

abigailsparty · 16/03/2010 14:54

Great news NinthWave you must be on top of the world!

AbFab I'm sure you'll be ok, just one of the lucky ones who don't suffer all the horrible symptoms. You probably don't feel lucky and would love to feel sick though! Hope all goes well tomorrow and you get some reassurance.

With regards to buggys/ prams, we went for a travel system first time round and it was fab (and still is, as a buggy!) We had the MaxiCosi base in the car which I totally recommend, the seat just clicks in and there's no fiddling with seatbelts, especially if it's raining! The car seat then fixes on to the wheels really easily. The pram lived inside and DD slept in it downstairs in the day so we didn't have a moses basket, just a cradle upstairs. Then, when DD was older we converted it into a buggy and just stored the carrycot bit. It's been so useful, it now lives in the boot of the car, not sure if we'll be able to use it indoors again this time - might need to give it a bit of a clean!

I'm wondering whether DD at 2.8 will be old enough to not have a buggy or if we'll end up getting a twin - any advice?

On the subject of twins, I have twin brothers and two other sets of twins in the family, I guess we find out Monday!
