Hello everyone.

Its all much happier here, sickness is better (at last) and I had an appointment with consultant in the hospital yesterday which went really well.

My DS was born in a slightly less than ideal way with an abrupted placenta but the consultant said that it is very very unlikely to happen again so I am a very happy person indeed today!

Glad that all the scans seem to be going well. Its lovely catching up on everyones news every so often.

Ninthwave - I get a lot of stretchy pains too, hopefully it is all normal but you should check it up just in case. Hope they settle down soon anyway.

Its April already so not long now till the rest of the scans - yay! Where are the twins?!

KSal · 01/04/2010 09:06

Hi All, I thought all the pains were normal especially as I had had a horrible cough so thought all my muscles must be sore. O well, just a week to go to scan now, 11 weeks today. MW phoned yesterday and all my bloods are normal, bizarrely the fact that I don't have syphilis and am not anaemic makes me feel better about the scan...riiiight!

Lovely lovely to hear about great scans and good results so thanks very much and keep them coming. Congratulations all... Now...where are those twins?!

Hermya321 · 01/04/2010 10:53

Apparently at 11w the baby is the size of a large lime, 12weeks it's 2 inches long, 13 weeks 3 inches long and at 14weeks it's 3 and a half inches long. Thought I would include some interesting facts today.

I've had stretching pains as well, I just thought it was baby trying to burst it's way through my tummy muscles.

Don'tstop Great news regarding the consultant.

Dilly Congrats on not having syphillis, that test still makes me laugh.

Nymph Good luck with the second viewing!!

Ksal I'll leave you at the top of the list.

Morning! Silversky- I had an email from the FMC waiting for me 5 mins after I called them, so you may want to ring them and double check. Although the directions to the FMC say that they are in the basement, the entrance is still through the main door, with the stairs down on the right hand side as you go in. Its bright, clean and airy, totally unlike the dark miserable NHS EPUs I've been in. You check in and there's a nice waiting area. You get bloods taken and normally you then wait 30 mins for the bloods to be processed then you get your scan. Its in a bright room- no need for darkness and they have sophisticated machinery so there's no need to have a full bladder. They do a very thorough check; the doc said she wished she'd done the measurements straightaway when the baby was asleep as when it started to wriggle, it was quite difficult! She did crown to rump measurements, checked arms and legs (you could even see toes), then did the nuchal fold check, then the other venal flow checks (several)and we heard the heart beating . We saw the baby from many angles including a formed, perfectly symmetrical brain! She then checked the flow of blood I was providing to the uterus on both sides to see if it was healthy or if there may be any signs that I could get pre-eclampsia (it was fine). Then she checked my ovaries- told me which one produced the egg and spotted a cyst on it, which would explain the stitch like pain I've had for quite a long time and the change in periods which my GP had shrugged off- so I'll get that checked out in 6 or so months....

She put all the results together, explained my risk of having a Downs baby and other chromosomal abnormalities, then got the bloods, combined the results and confirmed the riak and advised me that as it was low, she wouldn't recommend any invasive tests. She was really nice and was smiling all the way through the scan. My DH says that he came away with a much better understanding than he had when he went in.

I hope this is helpful!

Dillydora- I'm very pleased for you that you don't have syphilis .

Those people who have had private scans- did you have NHS ones too? Also, how does the detail of the private scan compare to what they do on the NHS one? I'm very tempted to go back to the FMC for the 20 week scan (all being well)you see, they were so nice.

Elsa123 · 01/04/2010 10:57

oh and she also checked for nasal bone present.

Nymphadora · 01/04/2010 11:01

elsa sound really good compared to my last nhs scan (9years ago)

Hermya321 · 01/04/2010 11:07

Elsa That sounds brilliant, it makes you wonder why you should have to pay for that sort of reassurance. At the end of the day, it was probably worth the £150 you paid for it. I wish I could afford something like that, but well I guess I'll just have to stick with the NHS. Although saying that, on my 7 week scan, they did check my overies and uterus were all normal and correct.

Elsa123 · 01/04/2010 11:11

I wonder because on my 7 week scan I was in and out of the sonographer's room in less than 3 mins and that included undoing my trousers. No checks of ovaries etc and as I was complaining of pain, in retrospect it could have been the pesky cyst...not that I'm moaning about it, all I wanted to see at that point was a heartbeat!!

Xavielli · 01/04/2010 11:14

Had my scan this morning! Lovely fluttery beany baby in there!! Wooohooo!

I am the official pumpkin smuggler with a due date of 31/10/10!

Tyson86 · 01/04/2010 11:19

Elsa I had a private scan at 10+1 weeks and still getting my NHS one at 15 weeks. I couldnt afford to get the Nuchal test done but it wouldnt effect my choice to keep the baby or not IYKWIM.

floozietoozie · 01/04/2010 11:31

Elsa that sounds brilliant. I've got to have a private nuchal scan if I want one and I'm almost tempted to go to London for it now as I don't think the one offered by me is that comprehensive (with bloods etc) but costs the same or possibly more.

AbFabT · 01/04/2010 12:43

Elsa, wow - that really does sound thoroughly brilliant (and brilliantly thorough!)!

Congratulations, Xavielli.

DillyDora · 01/04/2010 12:46

Elsa that scan sounds great, well worth it!

Congratulations Xavielli!

The cake is in the oven.... we shall see....smells nice, which is something.

Hi everyone!! Good too hear so much good news - Xavelli congrats on getting the 31/10/10.

I had a job interview today for temping work - really not sure if I'll get it, the fact I'm over qualified but no admin experience makes it a difficult judgement call. Hopefully hear today as I need that maternity allowance!!

My body seems to have decided its pregnant sinece the scan, so I am now knackered and nauseous like I haven't been up until now - great

I can't believe any of you can watch OBEM - even one minute had me turning off [sticks head in sand emoticon]

Tyson I didn't have the nuchal scan or tests done either - dh and I decided it would make no difference to our decisions. The ultrasonographer said last week it looked fine so we are happy with that

On other news...my ds has turned into a tantrumming toddler in the space of one week. Not sure what that says about his new nursery

FrenchLimeBlossom · 01/04/2010 14:17

Hello all, have not posted for ages as I've been super busy at work, but it meant that the time went really quickly to my scan at 11+5 on Tuesday!

All went well, thank god! we saw the little heart beating away which was miraculous and caused a little relieved tear or two to trickle down my cheek (and DH's too) and baby waved it's little arm at me which was amazing

Since then have been equally busy but finally got some breathing space to catch up on how everyone is doing. Really pleased to hear so many nice scan results and fingers crossed for all you April scanners!

Now to start putting on some weight by eating my already considerable bodyweight in Easter chocolate - have finally stopped actually throwing up in the morning, although still feel queasy - but i managed a yoghurt at 9.15 this morning which is a major victory so am feeling very positive! Hope the fellow sufferers are also starting to recover from the morning sickness.....

Onwards to trimester 2!

Hermya321 · 01/04/2010 15:49

Seashells I hope you get the job, how do you think the interview went?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 01/04/2010 17:22

No such joy I'm afraid Hermya, no negative feedback but one other stand-out candidate.

I currently feel pretty worthless!! I'm over qualified but no experience iykwim, starting to show (currently not obvious to someone not familiar with me but it won't be long).

No idea re benefits - I really want to work to get MA and to get out the house, but feeling despondent at moment as fed up with signing on - its soul destroying. I hate feeling useless, and felt all clever last week deciding not to renew my vet practising membership for the year "and enjoy being a mum" and now feel shit. GAH.

Getting takeaway to make up for it!!

Sorry to hear about your job interview Seashells. If you do temping work for a week will that entitle you for maternity allowance? We could really do with the money too but I feel so awful I am not sure I am up to working full time. I dont think being over qualified should you make you feel worthless - it is just a difficult job market at the moment. Chin up - here have some mini eggs... hope it helps xx

Ahhh so lovely to hear all your scan stories. Made me all weepy! dh laughed!!

Have started to take the medication that the doctor gave me and it helps a little. Glad I am not the only one with stretchy achy pains (makes me feel a tiny bit more positive about then scan!) Still really stressing about the scan it makes it worse that there are so many comparisons to the mmc I had... eg. I went for my scan in October and this baby is due in October and my scan for this baby is on the 6th April and the mmc baby was due on the 8th April (slightly spooky!) Hopefully this is just a coincidence and I am reading too much into it. What do you think?

Poor dh has just put dd to bed and she is absolutely screaming and kicking the floor because she didnt get her own way (they were playing outside and she didnt want to come in). She is 5 and it is way past her bedtime.

Good to hear you tested negative for syphallis dilly

Could I add myself to the scan list? Sorry KSal I am going to steal the top spot though...
