its ds's birthday today, he is 4. been up since half 6 with him ugh but at least it meant dh could see him open all his presents before he went to work.

he had his party on sunday which he loved and was good as gold, i was so proud of him. i think he must like being the centre of attention as he seemed to love entertaining all his friends. 14 of them! so glad i booked it at a party place so i didnt have to do much ha.

he's playing with all his new toys at the moment and im thinking about all the cleaning i could get done today whilst his new toys entertain him, or is that mean?? he has his 3 hours at play school later anyway so i have that time.

dont really have much to say on the pregnancy front, with having a planned section i dont want to do anything that might make me go into labour before it. hopefully thats not likely considering i had to be induced after being 10 days late last time.
does anyone know if i did go into labour before hand if they would make me stick it out with the labour or if they would take me straight for my section??

cant wait to hear the first birth stories

nicnacinoonoo, I'm having an elective cs too. As I understand it you just have to get yourself to the hospital asap and they will fit you in for a csection. Of course if the labour is very quick and the baby starts to descend then you might not get the choice of the cs. Unlikely in my case as my babies seem to get stuck. But if it all happens quickly and the baby is on the way out, I will be quite happy with that too. I just want to avoid an emergency like last time and all the associated panic. I'm on the 30th March - just before you according to the list. I don't think I will go into labour early as both my other two were late. Good luck!

My DD is ill as well with a similar thing stinkypinky, spotty rash on her face and neck and really grisly. Its just virul and not the pox so she must be saving that for when the babys born...... Has been off nursery this week so I am knackered.......
snowtiger that is so true, they are such big babies, DH was moaning this morning about his rubbish nights sleep, strange how I was awake most of night listening to him snoring away......
Have a good day, sun is not shining in Edinburgh today but hey! at least it's not snowing, ( learn to take what you can get weather wise up here...)

Jennysbean - I am in Stirling so empathize about weather. It is however getting sunny now. DD is improving slowly, and being quite a rascal!
Nicnac - I am having a section too, and have been told I will be fitted in if needs be. I went 10 days over with DD and was induced.

Hi all!
I had very sharp pains in my lower belly when i went to bed last night but I wasnt sure whether they were contractions of just stomach cramps because i had eaten crap all day long (nutella, snickers bar, crisps, you name it...)
I think it was my stomach bc it wasnt regular at all and it didnt last for more than 30mins.... i was already making plans in my head about leaving DS at a friend etc...

You would think i would be clued up on labour signs because this is my second baby but not at all... i never had contractions first time around, then when i was induced i had the epidural so felt nothing and then i had a emcs so didnt even reach the pusching stage.. i am a first timer really!!!

Happy birthday to nicnacinnoonoo's ds! 4 is a lovely age.

I had my 36 week appointment the other day. The doctor gave me an induction date of 24th March which was a bit strange considering I am not due until 11th April! He insisted that I was wrong and that my due date was 15th March . He had just given me a scan and confirmed that I was 36 weeks so he obviously has short term memory problems! He eventually came back with a revised induction date of 22nd April and blamed the receptionist. Quite why the receptionist is making decisions about my induction I'm not sure!

There is a distinct lack of communication between the midwives and doctors as they fall under different health authorities. My midwife has said that I will not be induced under any circumstances because I have had a previous csection but the doctor said it is standard policy to induce all women once they reach 40 + 11. I have already made it clear that I do not give my permission to be induced, he said well come in on that date anyway and we will break your waters, I told him that unless I am in established labour I do not want my waters broken either. I have said that if I do not go into labour by 22nd April I want an elective csection, the doctor said fine you can have that when you come in. I'm sure it is not as simple as he is making it sound, surely an elective csective has to be booked in advance and I don't want to go any further over my due date than 11 days.

thanks rene and thedollshouse.
he does seem to be at a really good age at the moment, he is so well behaved. i consider myself very lucky, especially when i watch the tantrums some of them have on supernanny . how long this good stage will last for though i have no idea. hope having the baby doesnt destroy it!

thedollshouse it is very annoying when they all say different things, hope it gets sorted for you. i had that at the beginning with the midwife telling me that i would not be allowed a section even though i had an emergency one last time. then when i went to see the consultant he told me straight away that it was an option. she's had to read that im having one on my notes since and i just sat there with a smug grin on my face thinking 'ha ha ha'

rene wish i was the end of march like you. for the sake of 1 day the baby will miss out on 3-4 months of pre school when she is 3

Had MW appt today and she still thinks baby is breech and so have to go for a presentation scan on 29 March. Everything else is fine.

Hi - had appointment with my consultant yesterday (am 37+4) and I am 1cm dilated and he thinks it will be a week. I had my DD at 38 weeks so I'm hoping he is right! If things don't happen naturally I'm being induced on March 29th so end in sight.

The baby is in the right position, and I'm feeling generally good. I'm really nervous but trying to concentrate on 'getting through it'.

nicnac happy birthday to your LO!

thedollshouse sorry you are having a hard time. I'm lucky because my consultant is great and been so supportive.

thedollshouse · 17/03/2010 16:57

thehuntress exciting stuff!

I'm not too worried about the advice from the doctor, I haven't actually seen the consultant, both appointments have been with the Registrar and it is obvious he is spouting hospital protocol rather than actually listening to me! I am hoping that once I am in labour the midwives will be more supportive.

I'm a little concerned about the "induction" date, I think nearer the time I will take that issue up with my community midwife and see if she can book me in for an elective c-section instead. Hopefully I will go into labour before and it won't be necessary.

Lots of people (including strangers!) have actually told me that I look as if I am in labour! I'm definitely not as the baby hasn't even engaged yet! No idea what someone in labour looks like...

Hi ladies
I went to the midwife today too, and am measuring 'normal' again - at 32 wks my bump was measuring 36 cm, and today at 36.3 weeks I'm still 36cm, so that's good news - I was terrified I was having an enormous baby! MW says he's the right way up (head down) but not yet engaged so still a way to go. Sigh.

Went to Tesco and stocked up on curry ingredients though. As of Friday I'm going for hot curries and doing my reflexology pressure points, geranium oil in the bath and maybe even (gasp! shock! horror!) will consider having sex with my husband....!

Nicnac happy birthday to your DS. I know you're sad about the pre-school issue - I've got the same concern and am really hoping I go into labour before April. I had a similar problem with DS1 as he was due end Aug / early Sept and was born 9 days early on 22nd August so he will start school when he is just 4 years old! Makes me want to cry just thinking about it but there's nothing I can do about it so generally I try not to worry about it. Hope you can get to the same point of feeling "ah well, such is life" about it too!

dollshouse sorry to hear about your problems with Drs / midwives. Hopefully once things happen you'll be able to shout VERY LOUDLY what you want and when you want it!! Love the image of someone 'looking like they're in labour' , perhaps you seemed a little, er, agitated?

Had severe braxton hicks going round Tesco this afternoon, and a feeling of Deja Vu as I started having proper contractions in the same Tesco with DS1! Don't think it's happening this time though, just my body practising it would seem! Have ordered some raspberry leaf capsules today too, hoping that that will help. Last time I bought the tea but never got round to drinking it so this time I figure the capsules might be a bit easier to remember to take.

Lol Snowtiger....I've told my dp the same thing about getting naughty haha....I don't know how I'm gona manage it, but he's sooooo keen he asked when...poor man...I must have really neglected him
I've been to midwife's today, and as I was getting ready to leave she was saying goodbye and that hopefully it would be her on call the day I go into labour so she can deliver my baby boy at home, and I thought I'm only 38 weeks..is that me done? I asked if she wanted to see me again, and she said no, then changed her mind and said to make an apptmnt in 2 weeks, and if I hadn't had Jude she would do a sweep for me...so on 31 March, 3 days after my due date I'm booked in for a sweep!!!! I wasn't booked in for a sweep until 8 days after my due date with Makenzi-Shei, so was a bit shocked that she was doing it earlier..if I need it....but even though I'm nervous about the sweep, I'm excited that it seems like something will happen!
I'm not bothered about the preschool start up...for me it's more time at home with my lil one, but I'm the same as Snowtiger in that my lil girl was born 29 Aug, and has to start school when she's just 4 years old, at the same time as her cousin who will be 2 months off being 5...makes me feel slightly sad that she's almopst being rushed ahead...but have been convinced that she's more than able to cope as she is a confident and happy child, who is well developed and talks well, and is probably on par with some of the older kids...(from speaking to a speech therapist at stay n play where she goes)...I'm sure she'll be fine, but I can't help feling jealous that I'm missing out on that extra bit of time with her at home that some mums get...whinge whinge whinge!!!! She'll be grateful when she leaves school and she's younger than some of her friends...unlike me, I was an older leaver haha
Hope every1s well, I'm having a lazy night while dp is making the most of St Patrick's Day....big hangover tomorrow so I best make sure I get some sleep in tonight haha

I fear my poor DH has a while to wait yet before he gets any lovin - I just can not summon up the mood and am useless at pretending - poor man.

Hello everyone. Had my appointment with the obst. yesterday and feel the likelyhood of me avoiding the section are getting slimmer. I had a minor blub with DH when I came out. The baby who was in the right position at 29 wks is now standing upright with its head in my ribs. They won't let me go into labour with a breech baby so they would plan a section. They would only let me go a week over my due date and I was induced at 11 days over with DS1 (cause nothing was happening) so I am not optimistic about going into labour within the first week after my due date with this one.

I asked how long I would be allowed to labour for as I was two days with DS1 (for no reward) and he said I would have a limited time to show I was progressing well as the longer you labour the more risk you have of rupturing the existing scar. He said they would never induce a VBAC as you are 15 times more likely to run into trouble. But other than that he is VERY happy for me to have a VBAC!!! On those terms and with my history it sounds unlikely. I also said I was worried as DS1 was 9lb6 and he said he didn't think the baby was that big at all but booked me in for a growth scan in 2 weeks when based on the size and the position they will make a final decision. On the positive maybe a smaller baby will march out of me. DS1 keeps saying thats great, he was great, everythings great...I felt like screaming. He just doesn't want to watch me go through it all again and who can explain wanting to..

I am so excited to hear news of the first little one - have I missed anything? On the up we went and bought lots of lovely things for the new arrival and I got that rush of excitement thinking about holding him/her. Sending out positive vibes to everyone.

Don't despair, Boodstress. I hate platitudes about "the only thing that matters is a healthy mum and baby", but there is a lot of truth in it. And if it does come down to a CS again - and it may not - it should be less alarming this time around.

I had a stressful night, last night. It's never happened to me before, but I swear that my hindwaters were leaking last night. This was accompanied by mild contractions. And of course, my husband was away. This baby shows a lot of signs of wanting to come quite early - I just want it to hold on a couple of weeks until I'm 37 weeks. (Now I've said that, I'll have to be induced at 42 weeks - just watch!)

I know, thanks Flybynight, it will never be that traumatic this time round, I just wanted to make up for last time and have a text book birth. I really want all the "OMG, I think its started" stuff but I need to concentrate on whats important.

Hope your baby stays put til 37 weeks at least and your husband is by your side. I thought last time and this that there was a very small amount of leaking in the last 6/7 weeks and I think I read somewhere that thats normal

Sounds like the babies are getting ready to make their entrances...I'm having lots of really strong Braxton Hicks, some of them are quite uncomfortable.
Last day of work tomorrow, woo hoo, hopefully I'll get a bit of rest before the baby comes but I guess he'll come when he comes. I'm wondering how big he'll be, I might ask the midwife next week if she can tell by feeling my bump.
Can't believe that some of your DCs will start school at 4! That is so little! My DNiece is starting this year, she's 6, but in Italy so they start a lot later. 4 just seems so tiny to be starting school.
DH keeps asking me if any of the other partners of the ladies on this thread are getting any lovin', he is feeling very hard done by. It's just not easy with a big bump and no energy. Poor man.

Hi all.
I saw the MW yesterday and the baby is 1/5th engaged. I'm hoping he/she'll wait until at least my due date on Tuesday to allow DD time to recover from the chicken pox. We had a dreadful night's sleep last night - about 1.5 hrs in total. My mum phoned this morning and I burst into tears . I hate admitting that I can't cope, but I'm so tired so she's coming later to let me sleep.

Bettymum My DH isn't getting any either if it helps and isn't likely to for a while

Bettymum - my poor DH hasn't had any lovin' since right at the start of this pregnancy . I keep waiting for all these sexy hormones to come flooding in and increase my libido but it never happened! Took about 3 or 4 months after DS was born to get back in the saddle last time as I had a lot of stitches and was really scared about doing some damage . DH has been really good, and apart from the occasional moan, hasn't made me feel too bad about depriving him. Even he didn't look overjoyed when the MW suggested hot sex as a means of induction

No my husband hasn't had any loving since we found out I was pregnant. He doesn't seem too bothered though. I can't even bend down to put my socks on at the moment so its the last thing on my mind!

Is anyone having a test done for strep b? It isn't actually recommended by the NHS but I have known a couple of people who contracted it and don't want to take any chances. When I had ds1 I picked up an infection and my csection had to be brought forward by a week, as a precaution ds was taken to scbu and was on antibiotics for a few days. Unfortunately the hospital I gave birth in have lost my notes so I don't know what infection I had. At the time I was high risk for strep b so there is a possibility that it may have been strep b I was carrying.

thedollshouse My sis in law has mentioned several times that I go for Strep b but I haven't yet, I think its about £30 to have it done so I have no excuses either. I hadn't even heard of it when I was pregnant with DS1. How rubbish that they lost your notes!!

Report
flybynight · 18/03/2010 13:04

I know that when I was in Australia, screening for Strep B was standard practice. I found it very reassuring, so I must look into it for this one.

£30, you say. Must google!

Never heard about the strep B test - but I'm going to keep my head in the sand about that one. I've had enough of tests and hospital visits as it is. Fingers crossed everything'll be OK!
