Congratulations nicnac. She's so cute and you look great!! Such a cute name as well. Shouldn't be too long before your nipples 'toughen up', just keep them creamed up like jennybean suggested x

shes fine thanks x

Snowtiger · 04/04/2010 15:14

Afternoon all!
Congrats Nic on your little one, glad all went OK.
I'm feeling a lot better today after a few naps and a hot bath (with lots of salt in it to help healing my nether regions - had to have some stitches as Wilf arrived so quickly there was a bit of a tear, although not of the perineum which I'd so religiously massaged!! Oh the irony!!). Wilf is feeding OK although it's harder work on the old nipples than I remember from DS1, am hoping they toughen up or he sorts out his latch soon as it was excruciating when he cluster fed for 4 hours last night!!

Can't remember who asked about raspberry leaf but I got tablets online from a company called Bodykind. Google them I'm sure they're easy to find.

Helen I didn't have any show or waters breaking until minutes before Wilf arrived, so just because you haven't had either doesn't mean nothing's happening (if that isn't too many double negatives for one sentence).

Dollshouse I could barely walk the day that I had Wilf and it turned out that it was because the sac of waters was so huge and low down it was weighing really heavily and pushing down on the old foof. Might mean your baby's getting into position - let's hope so!

Thanks everyone for the congratulations by the way. It's amazing that it's only been a day and a half since he was born, I keep getting little flashes of "Oh My God!" and "Hooray I'm not pregnant any more!!" .

The 3 hour labour sounds good I know but I have to say it had never occurred to me that it involved the same amount of pain as a longer labour, just intensified into a very short, excruciating and frankly horrible amount of time, but at least it was over quickly. I kept chanting 'this too shall pass' and thinking 'I never have to do this again, I never have to do this again' to the point that just before I started the pushing stage I made my DH promise to have a vasectomy ha ha ha!!! The midwife was there as a witness and everything >

Out of interest, you other ladies who've already got DC, has there been any tally between whether you were late / early with your other DC and this one? Strangely enough, DS1 was 9 days early and so was Wilf - exactly the same number of days early has got to be a bit unusual hasn't it? Or has anyone else had the same thing happen?

Good luck with your new babies and with your forthcoming labours ladies, hope we get some more Easter bunnies soon!!

Bettymum · 04/04/2010 16:23

Dwayne the recipe is in Nigella's "Feast" book, basically it's white bread with added spices, fruit, milk, butter and an egg. The buns are in the oven right now, they didn't rise as much as I think they should have done so they may end up being hot cross rocks...
I think there is a Bakealong recipe on Mumnsnet right now though, you could try that one?

rlp · 04/04/2010 16:37

I had what I think might have been a "show" last night but it was a very small quantity of mucousy brown stuff and not followed up by any other symptoms. I am 37 weeks and just had 1st trial of filling birth pool (homebirth planned) so I am hoping things get started early this time. I was induced at 42 weeks with my daughter but I hope that is not the case this time. For what it is worth, I know this one is a boy, and my understanding of dates (i.e. knowing when we did and didn't actually have sex) makes me think it all happened a little earlier in the cycle this time round.

lineky · 04/04/2010 16:51

Hi all, I've posted a couple of pics of Baby hazel
Hope a few more bubs arrive this weekend.
I have had a lovely lazy weekend getting looked after by DH, who also managed to keep visitors at bay - Hooray!
Off for another bath with lavender oil and then a lovely douse for my nether regions recommended by my midwife - and it is nice I'd recommend it
5 drops Lavender oil. 5 drops Callendula oil, 20ml full fat milk (or Breast Milk) and 1/2 to 1 pint of warm water. Soak wads of cotton wool and apply to area - then a nice Aghhhhhh!!

thedollshouse · 04/04/2010 17:12

Lineky. Hazel is beautiful.

Hi everyone, congratulations to the latest arrivals
We settled on the name Matilda for our little one. Couple of pics on my profile. She is doing well, but unfortunately she is a little jaundiced - it appeared on about day 3 when we were discharged and hasn't cleared yet. She isn't desperately sleepy though and seems to be feeding regularly enough. I will the ask visiting midwives more advice tomorrow. Really don't want to have to take her back to hospital. Anyone have any experience of this? I will go and trawl through the mumsnet history.

tostaky · 05/04/2010 07:18

Lineky Rene Congrats to both of you!!! They both look gorgeous!!

rene re-jaundice: my DS had to be re-admitted when he was a week old to have the UV treatment.
What I have learnt:

  • putting baby next to the windows doesn't work (at least in November)
  • the blood test is the only way to determine whether he needs treatment or not. We went to A&E for something else and they kept us in hospital after doing the blood test which the midwife never did even though they were all like "oh he likes quite yellow... let's see and wait..."
  • they are two types of UV machine: first one is just a big UV lamp and baby has to wear goggles - second type, baby has some kind of helmet and it is much much better. My DS basically cried for 12 hours under the UV lamp and DP and myself stayed up, taking turns to hold his goggles in place (for fear the UV damaged his eyes). Only after treatment were we told that they had the other type of UV machine.
  • My DS is now a totally normal little boy, so even though it wasnt the most pleasant experience (esp after a section), it was worth it!
  • DS being my first child I didnt know how much crying to expect etc so i was quite pleased with my baby who didnt cry too much, slept well and fed well... but that was BEFORE treatment!!!

rlp any news??

I'm 40+4 today and I think things are moving a bit . Lost some mucus plug yesterday morning, last night and this morning and also I have been having very mild contractions since last night. Nothing to stop me sleeping though... Let's hope tomorrow i can update with baby news!!!

PrincessTweetz · 05/04/2010 08:02

Lineky Hazel is adorable, she looks like a little doll. Congratulations
Rene, my dd was jaundiced and so is Jude now...neither have needed treatment though...just waiting for midwife tomorrow to recheck Jude as he has quite yellow eyes which weren't so bad in dd.
I have been putting Jude in front of the window as much as I possibly can, and letting him feed (he's breastfed) as much as I can too, which was told to me by midwives. My com.miwife told me she would be more concerned if he wasn't alert and grouchy at changing she'd be more concerned than she is. Hope it clears up for you on it's own too...Love the name Matilda btw

thedollshouse · 05/04/2010 09:18

Rene - Matilda is gorgeous!

I'm hoping my baby will either come today or hang on until the weekend. Dh goes back to work tomorrow and I feel a bit nervous with him being a couple of hours away.

nicnacinoonoo · 05/04/2010 09:53

thank you everyone.

the com.midwife told me Kacie is a little jaundice as well. she looks the same colour as my ds did though so im not worried (just look a little tanned). she just told me to put her by the window and let the sunlight get to her, she didnt seem too bothered by it.

im having a bit of a dilema about hats ha. apparently the midwife has told me that they are not supposed to wear them indoors anymore so i tried sleeping Kacie without one last night and she was quite unsettled, as soon as i put the hat on her she went straight to sleep. i wouldnt have thought a hat would make so much difference but there you go. so she obviously wants one on but the midwife reckons it increases the chance of cot death. (this is all totally different to what i was told with ds.) we have one of those movement sensor monitors so i have a reassuring ticking telling me she's breathing and an alarm will go off if she stops for too long. also the not wearing a hat thing is obviously to stop them getting too warm but the air in our house is no way near as warm as how they have it in the hospital so surely that makes a difference. not sure what to do for the best really.

its so typical with ds it was all about keeping them as warm as possible and he hated being swaddled or being too warm. now you're not supposed to swaddle them or have hats on them and Kacie likes to be all warm and snuggly wrapped in a blanket.

anyway congratulations to all the other new mummys, the pics are all gorgeous. im going to put some more on mine in a minute he he.

Bettymum · 05/04/2010 10:12

Wizbit I think you can start taking Raspberry Leaf any time after 36 weeks so start taking them now! I had tablets, not teabags(Holland and Barrett ones) you can have 3 - 6 a day, I took 3 a day from week 36 and 6 a day from week 37, I'm back to 3 a day now as I realised I was likely to run out. So maybe take a lower dose for a few days and then go up to the max for your brand? Not sure if you have the tablets or the teabags. They won't bring on labour, they're just supposed to tone the muscles so that when labour does start it's more efficient.
Rene congratulations on Matilda! I love the name.
totasky any developments??!

lineky · 05/04/2010 12:06

Rene Hazel is jaundiced too - not enough to need treatment and she is feeding well. I thought she was just a good colour but she is a bit tangoed in some pics. Midwifes just keep an eye on it. Mine have said fluid intake is really important so as long as she's feeding well it should clear.
wizbit I took the raspberry leaf tea from 34 weeks. Switched to capsules from Holland and Barrat a week before Hazel arrived.
Rene Matilda is beautiful

lineky · 05/04/2010 12:07

boodstress I did have quite a lot of heartburn!! It was my bigest delight that I can now eat large portions again

rumpleteaser · 05/04/2010 12:36

Loving all the pics of new babies! I want mine!!!
I got less than 2 weeks til my vague due date but really uncomfortable now, can't sleep at night, keep having hot flushes where I really pour with sweat, it's gross. My pelvis keeps 'popping' too, which is also gross! My stomach is so hard and concrete like.
I don't know how you overdue ladies are coping, the thought fills me with dread!
I've even tried sex and am going to eat a pineapple later!

I am happy I got milky stuff now coming outta my boobs! I was starting to worry I'd have nothing to feed my baby! It makes me squeamish though!

Hope my baby comes soon as I have too much time on my hands for internet shopping at the moment. Waiting for lotsa of zebra themed baby clothes...

Mistymoo · 05/04/2010 13:53

Well I'm going in for my ECV this afternoon so I hope it works. Will let you all know how I get on (just incase you're interested ).
