LadyBee I feel so much better after reading your post! For the past few days I have been really stinky and feeling self-conscious. I use mitchum deoderant and even so by the evening I've been catching a whiff of myself and been a bit . Hadn't tied it in to the amazing sense of smell I seem to have developed...duh!

Anyone else developing a murderous rage on sighting a smoker on the pavement? Never bothered me before but now it seems they are suddenly EVERYWHERE, can't stand the smoke - I have to keep holding my breath and accelerating to try and overtake them, muttering all the way

PrivetDancer · 18/03/2010 08:21

Well I am very pleased to find myself feeling quite sick this morning
Had got into a right fug yesterday thinking it wasn't working as huge appetite had disappeared and no other real symptoms, but I feel dreadful today! Yay!

On the downside I am sitting on a train with people who stink of fags and cheap perfume, but hey, I might be having a baby

Morning all

Was feeling v queasy this morning but have had breakfast, half a giant cookie and a slice of banana bread . As long as I keep eating it seems to keep the nausea at bay, although am a bit worried about weight gain....

Saw GP yesterday and she sent the MW referral electronically there and then. Will hopefully get an appointment through in 3/4 weeks. Was sent away with a truckload of reading, including massive NHS Scotland book called "Ready, Steady, Baby!" - catchy .

She asked me whether we wanted the diagnostic screening available at this stage. Hadn't really given this kind of thing much thought (assumed it would happen routinely) so the fact that it was offered as an option was a bit unexpected. Discussed with DH and decided that we would rather know either way so said yes to "triple" test (blood test for spina bifida and chromosomal disorders I think) and a nuchal translucency scan. All these are non-invasive, would need to consider carefully if results point to further investigations like CVS or amnio. Has anyone else made decisions on these yet?

Hope everyone has a good day!

hmmSleep · 18/03/2010 09:27

Kyuri I had my previous dcs in Edinburgh and remember that book! I still can't decide on tests, didn't bother in previous pregnancies, but then was a bit younger and didn't already have 2 children to consider. They don't provide the nuchal scan on the nhs down here, so will have to decide soon as will have to organise myself if I decide to have one.

Can't decide about swine flu jab either, haven't even decided whether to give it to the dcs yet and think they're going to stop offering it here in 2 weeks.

IssyStark · 18/03/2010 09:40

Morning all,

Thanks for the good wishes

To convince myself further I took another test this morning and the line came up really quickly - when I lasted tested on Mothering Sunday (day my period was due) it took a couple of minutes to come up despite being 10mIU tests. But the tingly breasts I've had the past too days are a dead give away. I think I'll stop testing now

Crumpet re scans: most trusts offer a 12w nuchal transparency scan which can pick up some neural tube defects and, along with a blood test, give and indication of the likelihood of some chromosomal deformities. You are unlikely to get a scan on the NHS before that unless you have a clinical indication (history of previous mc or ectopic preg, or currents symptoms for a mc or ectopic). From 6w a heartbeat should def be visible and if there is a still a heartbeat at 9w then the chances of having a mc fall to the same as in the second trimester.

silverboots sorry to hear your news, take care and loads of sticky wishes for the next one.

Kyuri · 18/03/2010 09:41

Thanks hmmsleep, just had a look online and it seems that the triple test isn't done until wk 16, whereas the NT is wk 11-13. Bit disappointing as had thought would have results of both around the time we might have been planning to tell people.

I had the swine flu jab last year as had family member that was poorly. Not sure if I would bother now if I had to think about making a choice as the threat seems to have disappeared according to the media at least, although having said that, I think I would default to current govt advice.

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 18/03/2010 09:41

morning all, i wont be having the swine flu jab, i personally just dont feel there is enough research about what can happen in later years. But i think its a very personal decision.

I started bleading on tuesday, baby is ok, thankfully, but i've been put on complete bed rest for the nex few weeks, and i'm so bored already!

So sorry to hear the news boots and pretend (i think thats the right name)

Hope your all doing well today

Booboobedoo · 18/03/2010 10:19

playingatmotherhood and SilverBoots - so sorry for your losses.

addicted - blimey, that sounds tough. Have you got someone there with you?

To those of you with histories of m/c, fingers crossed.

DS and I had the swine-flu jab in October. I'm a moderately severe asthmatic, and I was pretty sure we'd be pregnant in the next few months, so I'd be in two separate 'at-risk' categories. It made my arm swell up like a balloon for about a week!

I've got a crappy chest-infection, which is why I'm not posting often. I've got antibiotics and steroids, but it's really compounding my Morning Sickness. Everything smells even worse than it usually would at this stage, and there's loads of phlegm. It's just grim.

Moan over.

Have a nice day!

lizardqueenie · 18/03/2010 11:13

Hey all looking for some advice on the scan & MW appointments.

I found out yesterday that I wont be having a midwife appointment until 19th April by which time I will 12 weeks exactly. I dont even think that this is the appointment for a scan - I think I am meant to have the nucal scan & tests at Kings afterwards.

I am wondering what to do really. Someone on another thread suggested calling the hospital to get the appointment moved forward as I was considering going for a Private scan next week. Grateful for your views/ advice, thanks

Booboobedoo · 18/03/2010 11:42

Hi lizardqueenie - is this your first pregnancy?

Why don't you just give them a call and ask if the scan is part of the appointment? If not, ask them to shift it. They're pretty flexible, I've found. (I'm at Kings too!).

Mylittlebubble · 18/03/2010 11:44

Sorry to hear your news playing and Boots wishing you lots of luck and hugs for next cycle.

Issy I was the in my first Preg I did another 3 tests in my first 8 weeks as I had no symptons!! Then the morning sickness kicked and there was no denying it!!

Addicted the same thing happened to me in my first preg. Take it easy and enjoy the pampering. My DH wrapped me up in cotton wool and pinicked everytime I moved in the night or came knocking at the bathroom door if I was in there too long! Bless him.

I keep feeling a little dizzy and keep getting heart pulpatations (sp!). Is anyone else having these should I be worried?

funbun · 18/03/2010 12:24

Feel yucky wucky today. I'm a teacher and I don't think OFSTED would approve of my teaching methods today - ah well never mind.
Thank goodness I don't work on a Friday, I've only got my smelly Yr7's to get through this afternoon.

Can't work out if eating or not eating makes me feel worse. I refused my breaktime coffee today and never normally do that.

What is everyone else doing about caffeine/coffe/tea? I usually have 3 cups a day but I've dropped to 2 (first thing and breaktime). Plus the odd diet coke which does make me feel better.

Mylittlebubble · 18/03/2010 12:26

Addicted Just thought I should add that everything was ok when I had a bleed and now have a 23mnth DD.

Mylittlebubble · 18/03/2010 12:28

Funbun I was just thinking the same thing about the caffine. I have stopped the Green tea and meet up with my friends on a friday I am sure they will be suspec if I don't have my normal 3 cups!!

Ebb · 18/03/2010 12:39

Waves back at Somethingsuitablywitty and twodotzero. Nice to have people to share a due date with. Although Ds was 2 wks early so might end up with an October baby if this one follows in his brothers footsteps.

Also waves at Babybean1 and Harmony as a fellow Southmead potential. The birthsuite in the MLU was fab.

Playing and Boots I'm so sorry for your losses.

Well I am in danger of becoming a hypochondriac! I've got Ds's cough and just got antibiotics from the Dr's for my sinuses. I haven't slept properly for what seems like weeks now due to either Ds or me being ill. I'm so exhausted. I could barely get off the sofa yesterday! Luckily my DP is very understanding and has been cooking my dinner most nights while I rest! Roll on some energy!

I'm getting a pain in my leg again that I had last time round. I googled it and one of my original mumsnet threads came up as I'd asked on the boards for any advice. It was very strange to read what I'd written and the replies knowing it's eternally saved in cyber space!!!

Well I hope everyone else isn't suffering too badly with ms and the likes. X

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 18/03/2010 12:46

my book, given to me by the mw says you should have no more than 200mg of caffeine a day so
1 mug of instant coffee is 100mg
1 mug of filter coffee is 140mg
1 mug of tea is 75mg
1 can of cola is 40mg
1 energy drink is up to 80mg
1 bar of 50g of plain choc is 50mg
1 bar of 50g of milk choc is 25mg

But its up to you how much you actually have

PrivetDancer · 18/03/2010 12:47

I stopped caffeine from 1st jan actually as part of diet I was on so haven't bothered starting having it again.

First time round I think I avoided completely in first 12 weeks, then started having the odd coffee and full fat coke (got real craving for that sometimes) when I felt like it.

I don't think I would have swine flu jab now, my dd had it last year when it all seemed more serious, and I might have done if I had been pg then, but it seems to have pretty much disappeared now, so I can't get worried about it. Will see how it pans out in the autumn I guess.

Sorry you have had a scare addicted, although am slightly of your bed rest right now

Mylittlebubble · 18/03/2010 12:54

We have decided not to go for the Swine Flu jab too.

Thanks for info on Caffeine Addicted

IssyStark · 18/03/2010 14:11

funbun I'm trying to stick to 2 mugs of tea a day and have switched to decaf coffee (can't stand decaff tea) but I'm only 4.5w so far and will my other pregnancies I start going off caffeine big time around 7 weeks when ms hits, so I'm trying to savour it while I can!

mylittlebubble This early stage of pregnancy is almost like phony pregnancy, isn't it? Given this is my eighth first trimester, you'd like I'd be used to it but I'm not

About the dizziness and palpitations, I've had that before in previous pregnancies. It's all to do with your heart rate going up in pregnancy but your blood volume takes a bit of time to catch up so you can end up with low blood pressure from time to time. If it gets worse and you start seeing spots before you eyes, or fainting, see your doctor, obv. Otherwise, keep your fluids up. Take care!

IssyStark · 18/03/2010 14:13

you'd like I'd be used to it but I'm not

That should be think not like.

Isn't it a bit early for pregnancy brain?

Loopy What a great excuse for a party! My mmc have all ended by 8.5w (which is why I've paid for private scans at 9w for recent pregnancies), however having had one anencelphalic pg I'm at increased risk of another so I won't really feel happy until the 12w scan shows a healthy baby with an intact skull and upper brain In the meantime I'll keep popping the pills

And thanks for adding in my details. I'm 38.

Tillybea · 18/03/2010 14:53

Hello all

Playing and Boots so sorry to hear of your news. Wishing you both the best of luck in the future.

Well not many symptoms today, but you can set the clock by me at the moment. Come 1.30pm I have a serious flagging moment. Feeling a bit bloated today too ? it?s got to be too early for baby bump hasn?t it??

I told one of my friends I was pg yesterday ? she has just had her baby and I remembered I had lent her some of my mat clothes and baby books so I hinted I may need them back soon. She was decidedly unexcited...hmmph! I guess she?s still caught up in the excitement of having her 3 week old, and I hope she wasn?t worrying about having the shine of being a new mum taken away from her, but a bit of an ?Ooooh? would have been nice. I did have a cuddle with her 3 week old which was nice and it was interesting to see my girls reacting to another baby in the house - they were fascinated, but did not like me holding her.

As for the SF jab, I won?t be having it. I think by the time we?re in the 3rd tri and high risk, SF will have pretty much died away and another winter flu bug will be upon us (which the SF jab probably won?t immunise us against anyway).

Kyuri - I?ll be having the Nuchal scan and the triple test (but for us they don?t test for the Down?s part if you?ve already had the Nuchal) I had them all with DD2 and the triple test with DD1 (don?t get nuchal on NHS here unless you?re over 35) They are all very simple to have and don?t affect the baby at all, if you?re anything like me, they just make you a nervous wreck until you get the results! I agree with Loopy though to have a good talk about the ?what if?s? beforehand ? in fact at our antenatal clinic I?m not sure they carry out the nuchal unless you tell them you have done this and have considered all aspects.

Addicted - Hope your coping OK. I?ve had bleeds with both previous pg?s and am even expecting it this time around. They are very scary none the less.

Issy - It?s never too early for pregnancy brain.
