Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The only issues I had with bfing were that people would deliberately walk past and look down at my boobs regardless of what way I was facing and then 'tut', ridiculous! We still did it for 11mths though, sometimes I'd be sweating to death hiding in a jacket in the cafe just to stop the tuts! This time they can tut, I'm practicing my Paddington Bear stare

weehector · 26/02/2010 15:12

Thanks for the lists ladies...have copied & pasted into Excel & will tally if I can ever make up my mind about what to buy...I had the same sleepless nights about what flowers to have at my wedding...really wish I could be more decisive.

Good day today...1. Midwife & consultant agree that the doctor is over-reacting in sending me for further blood tests so next week's visit to the phlebotomist has been cancelled, 2. they're not worried by my cyst so no extra scans required 3.our wee baby's heartbeat was loud & clear again today. 4. I have a victoria sponge in the oven (and I intend to eat 1/3 of it before DH gets home).

Have a good weekend all.

sayanything · 26/02/2010 15:37

at your ability to restrict yourself to 1/3 weehector.

YummymummyKJulie · 26/02/2010 15:59

Alicetheinvisible it must be very posh hospital and private medical care....acctually I was thinking to use my private for labour? Does anyone have done that previously? Is it worth it? xx

soontobefatnat · 26/02/2010 16:03

Thanks to everyone who has posted a list... Really useful. However, I honestly don't know/can't picture what half the stuff is!! I really need to do some proper research soon. Am popping into the West End to get a new skirt for work (am exploding out of my current one), so perhaps I'll brave M&P/Mothercare for a recce...

Also interesting to see so many people intended to use cloth nappies. Am definitely hoping too... There's a nappy laundry service that serves our neighbourhood and the nappies plus weekly laundry seem to cost the same as disposables. Reckon we'll give em a go!

Happy (sunny) Friday all!

soontobefatnat · 26/02/2010 16:05

PS LOL Elusive and your boob story!

Alicetheinvisible · 26/02/2010 16:24

Private medical care No, it was addenbrookes

CazEM · 26/02/2010 16:49

Goodness, you miss a lot when you can't get on here till the end of the day!! I can't keep up!!

A little overwhelmed by all the lists! Made me realise how much I have to start thinking about!!!! I'd decided what big stuff I wanted but hadn't really started thinking about the smaller stuff at all!!!

We bought our pram at 12 weeks - very early, but I supposed to be buying in the January sales, and I researched pram from the moment I found out I was preg. So off we went to M+P to buy the Pliko I'd decided on in the sale - last years colours and half the price. However when we got there, I changed my mind and decided on the Pliko Switch in Mimi colours! So there was no January savings at all but as I'd travelled there to buy a pram, buy a pram I was going too!! I was sold on being able to have baby facing me for as long as necessary!! I love how properly pram like it looks too! Haha, can't wait to push it around in the summer! and we've also got our cotbed and mattress as well because my Mum and Dad bought it for us in the January sales! I can't wait for the next shopping trip, but resisting until after Easter because stuff needs doing to the house now.

Currently half way through converting the downstairs toilet into a utility room, so have had plumbers in, got electrician in next week, having it refloored and getting a tumble etc in there, and then the attic needs decking out so we can finally use it as a storage space and empty out the babies room of all the junk that is currently in there! So no more spending on the baby until all that is done I'm afraid for me! Think I'll finish getting all the big stuff after Easter though first and then make a list of little stuff and then start buying is weekly I guess!

Birthday shopping trip with Mum tomorrow though so I can get lots of lovely treats for me!

Hope everyone has a lovely evening/weekend planned! No work for two days! Hooray!

CherryPie3 · 26/02/2010 16:59

Sunny Nat? Been chucking it down in buckets here all day - still, at least it's not snow

Weehector great news about your appointment!!! (can I have some of your cake please? )

Chulita Why do people do that? Walk by and tut loudly . Have to admit tho - I got a lot of lovely old ladies saying how nice it was that there are still mums choosing to bf

Dibbydab · 26/02/2010 16:59

Thank goodness for that soontobefatnat I thought I was the only one looking at those lists thinking "what the heck is the difference between a romper suit and a sleepsuit? " Baaaaaad first time mother...

If I have get all that stuff before bubba arrives, I'm going to have to take out a second mortgage and build an extension. I'm kind of going with the theory that babies eat (fortunately have boobs already), sleep (got cot bed) and poop (got a few packs of Pampers).

Weehector if you still have 2/3rds of a homemade cake left, you know it's only polite to share it amongst your co-bumpees don't you...

We are bathroomless at the moment - probably won't be finished for another week, but will be fabulosa when it's done - no more skanky shower curtain clinging to me when I turn around!!

soontobefatnat · 26/02/2010 17:09

Dibbydab Yay! Another deadbeat first-timer. What IS a sleepsuit? Like a baby gro/onesie? With feet? Without? Cosier?? I know less than nothing.

Just huffed a load of hazlenut Milka after trying to be good today... Sooo delicious. I think the baby must have needed it!

starshaker · 26/02/2010 17:18

Today seems to be a bad day for me. Either that or the babies just dont seem to like anything i eat. Havent managed to keep anything down today . Hopefully lamb stovies will stay down mmmmmmm cant wait till its ready.

aendr · 26/02/2010 17:22

I've got nearly everything already as my first one is only 15 months old now. All I need is a double buggy, and to figure out if I need to change mattresses for the moses basket and cot! Oh and the next stage car seat for DS so the new baby can have his old one (he's in a 0+ because the "carryable" ones don't go very well with a not even 5' tall mother).

It's a bit of let down, not shopping. I'm hoping we find out it's a girl at the 20 week scan, so I have an excuse to go and buy a few girly clothes! (I'd love to have a girl!)

Anyway, for the benefit of you ostriches, and anyone /ordering/ stuff... it can take a looong time to arrive, so don't delay too long and ask what their lead time on the stuff is to be sure it will arrive on time. You need time to put cots etc together, preferably not when you're enormous and your temper is short due to lack of sleep due to having to wake up to turn and wee all night, so don't leave it to 36 weeks. Also check out the shops on the boards here - some are notorious for not delivering (at all, let alone on time) and the last thing you want to be doing is what a friend of mine had to - buy new hurriedly, then sue the original shop for her money back while coping with a really bad reflux baby.

ElusiveMoose · 26/02/2010 17:52

First-timers, there is no difference whatsoever between a sleepsuit and a babygro. The different names are simply a marketing ploy to get you to spend more money. All they are is an all-in-one suit - some have feet, some do not; some have little foldable-down hand covers (to stop scratchy babies from scratching), some do not. If you're like me, your baby will wear nothing else day and night for at least 3 months, maybe more like 6. My advice would be to get easily washable ones, in reasonably thin cotton (you can always layer them over vests), with poppers (NOT buttons or ties, because they'll drive you mad), and with the poppers down the front NOT the back (ditto). BTW the really fleecy ones are different - those are 'snowsuits' designed to be worn outside in cold weather(these always have feet). HTH.

soontobefatnat · 26/02/2010 18:49

Brilliant - thanks for clearing that up Elusive! Sage advice in a baffling world

Starshaker hope the stovies do the trick!

starshaker · 26/02/2010 19:00

ooooh they did mmmmmmm. Considering having another bowl but think i might be pushing my luck lol

Chulita · 26/02/2010 19:57

Also BTW, DD was very reactive to fleece and came out in a horrible rash. She's got to sleep in cotton or she doesn't sleep at all. Just so you don't buy lots of clothes you potentially can't put on your LO!

cazzybabs · 26/02/2010 20:00

scan fine - pushed me forward a little so due at the end of July...but I think I'll still be in August...but not going to make till Sept ..however baby is heathly and I think it is another girl (which is not a suprise but I am a but pissed off about because the midwife doing the scan said "I am just looking at the overaries")...I never found out with the others. Oh well.

cazzybabs · 26/02/2010 20:01

Alice - I have had all 3 at the Rosie - no hat put on

starshaker · 26/02/2010 20:06

cazzy is it possible she was checking yours? Mine were checked in my scan to see if there were any cysts

Alicetheinvisible · 26/02/2010 20:28

I don't think they can see babies overies at this point, most likely yours

vix206 · 26/02/2010 21:13

cazzy - I'm pretty sure she was looking at your ovaries They certainly did at my scan to make sure all was okay.

weehector · 26/02/2010 21:44

Half the victoria sponge is left so its all yours to enjoy...(as I feel a bit sick now).

Glad you've cleared that up about the rompers v sleepsuit, elusive, I was another first timer wondering about that too. I don't think I'll admit to the midwife that I also wondered why SMA send me an unsolicited duster through the post. My woodern surfaces are lovely and clean but the penny has dropped now that I understand what muslins are for..

ElusiveMoose · 26/02/2010 21:46

cazzy, do you mind me asking why you were so keen for a September baby? I only ask because my DS is September, and this one will be August, and I think there are definitely pros and cons of both. I'm actually slightly worried about DS - he seems to be turning into quite a bright little boy (he's already starting to read words at 2.5), and I think he's going to ready for school WAY before 5.

Plus, on the mercenary side, if you're going back to work (which I don't, incidentally, but my friends have pointed this out), you save an entire year's worth of childcare costs by having an August baby .

cazzybabs · 26/02/2010 22:47

Duh - maybe it was mine....anyway I am sure it is a girl..

I was desperate for a sept baby because I am an early years teacher...anyway should have kept my legs crossed for another month..to late now
