Oh goodness, you're all so organised . I feel so overwhelmed by it all, I'm applying the time-honoured ostrich approach to the whole thing. All I've done so far is order a catalogue from a huge shop here in Brussels, in the hope that I'll have an idea of what I want before I actually hit the shops.

cakeywakey · 26/02/2010 10:40

Oooh Alice am very impressed that you're able to make a nappy bag, will you post pics when you've done it? I can just about thread a needle.

CherryPie yep the Pilko and 3D are very similar, both nice prams. It's so lovely to troop out when they're little and have people peeking into the pram.

Hoping it will be nice weather in August.DD was a late autumn baby and it was miserable weather to take the pram out in. All you could see was her perfect tiny face surrounded by all the gubbins keeping her dry and warm

DD is also still in her cotbed, so we need to make the move to a big girl's bed sooner rather than later so that we can commandeer the cot for the baby. Also want to get potty training done before August - can't face two in nappies, especially if the baby needs chaning as much as DD did when she was first born.

Alicetheinvisible · 26/02/2010 10:41

This is why i think everyone listing their lists may help Sayanything

CherryPie3 · 26/02/2010 10:42

Alice Thats a very good idea - don't have the exact list as I'm at work but heres what I can remember:-

sleepsuits x6 white
vests x6 white
socks x10prs uni
scratch mits x10 prs (I always lose them!)

Thats the clothes I'm getting/got for first week cos after the birth we'll be getting more gender specific clothing so didn't want to buy too much white.

other stuff:-
baby bath
baby bouncer
cot
cot top changer (hopefully)
pram/pushchair
steriliser
bottles x6
breast pump

erm.... if I think of anything else I'll let you know.

TIP on nappies, don't know about anyone else but I found stocking up on nappies from about 25 weeks very helpful!! I bought 5 packs of size 1 and the rest size 2 as my babies grew out of them soooooo fast, literally in the first few (3) weeks!

HTH xx

I jsut bought this - what do you think

www.mamasandpapas.com/product-amie-cotbed-package-/375702710/type-i

The room beanie will sleep in is fairly small so I figure this would be a good compromise and give me some storage as well.

Have I bought it too early? 15 wks + 4

CherryPie3 · 26/02/2010 10:51

isheisnthe We were wondering where you'd got to

Thats a very good deal you've got there!!! And such a lovely design. You're right about the storage too. This lo will be sleeping in our room for the first 6 months so storage an issue for us too!! Good idea to the drawer for underneath!

cakeywakey · 26/02/2010 11:00

We bought a cot-top changer but never ended up using it. By the time I'd dragged it onto to the cot and then popped DD on to it (where I was scared she could roll off), I was all flustered, so just ended up having one changing mat upstairs and one downstairs and used them on the floor - she couldn't fall off the floor

Alicetheinvisible · 26/02/2010 11:01

Isheisnthe If you are going to decorate the room, you will want to do it first!

Haven't got a comprehensive list yet, but things i need/want to get this time are:

An electric breast pump (expressed milk solely for 4months with a handpump last time)
A sheepskin lining for the buggy
Some decent winter weight sleepsuits, like this
A new steriliser
New teats for bottles
A new nappy bag
A buggy board
A new mobile for above the cot
A new change mat

What i will be getting rid of:
A tommee tippee nappy bin - nappy bags much cheaper and not so much hassle

Things that really weren't that neccessary last time:
Newborn bath support (DD used to bath with me)
Lots of muslins - damn expensive, bits of towel/flannel/teatowl much more absorbant. Keep the muslins for when out and about

CherryPie3 · 26/02/2010 11:05

Oooh, I forgot the muslins, have bought them this time around around ut only because I got 20 for £2!!

Have also got nappy/changing bag to match the pram/pushchair.

And will be buying a changing mat also

I forgot loads didn't I? Good job I've started this early!!!

OP posts:
cakeywakey · 26/02/2010 11:07

Am going to need a buggy board as well, I can't go everywhere at toddler pace Am hoping to pick one up at the NCT sale.

Someone on another thread recently made the good suggestions of buying coloured muslins if you use them or dyeing them, so you more easily tell which are dirty. You can't always spot the milk stains . Had forgotten about the constantly-wearing-a-mussy-over-your-shoulder stage

isheisnthe · 26/02/2010 11:08

ahh - thank you for thinking of me! I need to change my due date as the scan now puts me due on the 18th - bummer as I was hoping to cross my legs until september for the school year - ha ha ha.

My dates are definatly right tho - 23rd August. So I am thinking that when (if!) I am 10 days late (I was 10 days late with DS1 & 2) I will count from the 23rd rather than the 18th - what do you all think?

Ds2 is hyper excited about the baby - we took are mental 1 year old jack russell in the woods for a walk near our house the other day and I slipped over - DS2 burst in to tears as he was worried I was hurt and had crushed his baby - insisted on holding my hand the whole way on the walk and telling me where to step - bless him - going to take him to the drop in clinic at the midwive place this PM so he can hear the babies heart beat.

Dunno how long I am going to hear "how many more sleeps till your baby comes out mummy"....

So - Who is going to find out what they are having at their 20 week scan??

Alicetheinvisible · 26/02/2010 11:10

They do go crusty though

Apparently i need an O'baby universal buggy board for mine, will look on Ebay at some point, i think they are about £50 secondhand - still cheaper than buying a double buggy that DD won't stay in for long.

CherryPie3 · 26/02/2010 11:16

isheisnthe Hope you're ok after your fall, bless your ds

I'm not finding out at the 20wk scan

OP posts:
CherryPie3 · 26/02/2010 11:17

Oooh, just realised - my 20wk scan is 1 week and 6 days away!!!!

Wonder if I'll change my mind?

OP posts:
isheisnthe · 26/02/2010 11:18

i am always falling over - can't even balme wine anymore!

pamplem0usse · 26/02/2010 11:24

I need everything because it's my first: so far I've got (on my list, not actually bought!)

Buggy
Car seat
Changing bag
Baby monitor
Hooded towels
Baby bath
8 rompers
8 bodysuits
2 cardigans
5 pairs socks
5 pairs booties
2 hat and mit sets
1 pramsuit
8 bibs
2 blankets
Muslin squares
Cot/ junior bed
Mattress
Bumper for when baby is a bigger
Bedding
Mobile
Drawers/ Changing Unit
Moses basket and stand
Rocker
Breast pump
Steriliser
Bottles
Sling
Thermometer
Baby nail scissors
Nappies
nappy sacks
Travel cot
Baby wipes
Breastmilk storage bags
Nightlights

I thought about a cot top changer before deciding lugging it on and off and baby on and off sounded too much like hard work!

Alicetheinvisible · 26/02/2010 11:26

bag pattern

or this

But in some nice fabric

CherryPie3 · 26/02/2010 11:27

Ok, having read the work involved in using cot-top changer I have decided to 'do a cakey' and use the changing mat on the floor. safer and easier

pample I'm stealing your list because it's better than mine and I'm on my 3rd!! We didn't save anything from dd and ds except a babygym and a cotbed mattress - so have everything to get again!

OP posts:
bouncingblueberries · 26/02/2010 11:29

crusty muslins - that's nothing!

for the first 10 weeks after ds was born we lived in a lovely, newly-refurbished rented flat with lovely wooden floors throughout. Bit sore on the knees when changing nappies though.

Anyway, when we moved into our proper flat we discovered a nice puddle of dried baby puke when we moved the nursing chair [chair]. I'd obviously been winding ds after a feed and not noticed he had puked half of it up! And too lazy sleep deprived to clean behind the chair

Alicetheinvisible · 26/02/2010 11:29

Pample i wouldn't get too many hooded towels as they are tiny and are really only useful for a few months, Cot bumpers are not really necessary and i would wait on the breast milk bags.

bouncingblueberries · 26/02/2010 11:29

that should have been not [chair] !!!

pamplem0usse · 26/02/2010 11:30

CherryPie -- and cheaper!!!
I've my heart set on a ridiculously expensive cot bed from M&P (Orchard) which my Mum said she'd get us but not quite sure I can justify it still!!

babyducky · 26/02/2010 11:31

Hi all

Still havent caught up properly with you chatterboxes!

Thanks for the name opinions though, I did LOL at whoever it was had a manky old cat called leo!
Still cant decide anyway, got plenty of time I guess!

Thats a good tip with the nappies cherry, We get a big monthly shop online & Ive ordered a pack of nappies, 2 packs of wipes & 4 packs of maternity towels!! Will add a few bits like that on every month from now.

I went & got all my maternity clothes & ds's newborn clothes from my mums loft yesterday, I have had a big sort out & I'm going to put quite a bit on ebay, & obviously keep a lot for this baby.

I would def say not to buy too many clothes, even though its so tempting! I have got so much stuff with the labels still on & things that only got worn once or twice!
We went mad buying cute little outfits & then got given so much aswell!

I dont need to buy too much this time, we have got cot & sheets & blankets, sleeping bag thingies, pushchair, baby bath, loads of muslins & bibs!!

need to buy: buggy board, bottles, breast pump, changing mat, bouncy chair, car seat & cot mattress & will also probs treat myself to a nice changing bag!

isheisntne- your ds sounds a cutie, how old is he?
We are not going to find out the sex at next scan!

Welcome to any new people

x

YummymummyKJulie · 26/02/2010 11:32

I like both styles Alice. Do you know what kind/pattern of fabric you'll be using?
