sweetheart · 14/07/2005 16:13

I have 85 more days at work!!! That doesn't sound too many does it - YEAH!!!

scully · 14/07/2005 16:18

hadn't thought of counting the days, might have to do that tomorrow.......
cake was delicious, a little bit goes a long way, it's so rich
i'm off now, have a nice evening everyone!

sweetheart · 14/07/2005 16:24

Thats an example of how bored I get at work!!!

Have a lovely evening!!!

sweetheart · 14/07/2005 16:39

here's an interesting discussion

Just wondered what your views were?? I haven't brought a new steralizing unit yet. I used a cold water one before but it burned my skin Only mildly.

I was going to buy a steam microwave jobbie this time round. I might not bother now!!!!!

mychelle · 14/07/2005 16:49

I know nothing about steralizing units - sorry not much help there!

Just thought i'd sign off as i have much to do at work before hols.

Take care ladies x

sweetheart · 14/07/2005 16:57

Right, I'm off home.

I want lots of steralization talk by tomorrow ladies

starrynight · 14/07/2005 18:58

I would sterilize anyway for the first few months - fgs they are only ickle things that have been enveloped in a soft warm sterile environment for their entire existance - they need to adjust to everything outside their bodies before inside.

Microwave ones are good - if you are planning to BF you might not need one at all though. I only sterilise til they are up and shoving everything in their mouths which isn't long - so I wouldn't spend much on it.

Also, I hate the thought of the coldwater ones cos whatever the hell is in the tablet - it stinks! It can't be good for little tums.

Nemo1977 · 14/07/2005 19:00

we used electric sterlizer with ds and will be using it again. I didnt sterilise till 12mths mainly because ds was crawling at 5mths and walking at 8mths so there really was no point when he was sticking all sorts of other stuff in his mouth...however we do have a dishwasher so i used to wash stuff out and then put it in to dishwasher thats was form around 9mths

bonkerz · 14/07/2005 19:14

Evening all.

HAd midwife today and she wieghed me! I am 3lbs off a 2 stone weight loss in 10 weeks!!! AMAZING!!!
Not surprisingly i have another water infection AND thrush but midwife has advised going to docs tomorrow to get stronger meds for them!! Midwife did say i may be on anti biotics for the remainder of pregnancy but assures me it wont harm fred at all!!
Midwfe found heartbeat straight away so im happy!
Have just finished a party for my ds who is 5 in a few days! 30 kids all running around and a boucy castle! Am knackered but thankfully ive got some amazing friends who did alot of the work!!
Am off for a cool bath and then to eat oranges! Maybe a new craving!

Thomcat · 14/07/2005 21:46

I feel like the only one here that hasn't felt a single movement, am I imagining that I'm the4 only one, anyone????

Is it normal to feel so.....normal?

My midwife appt can't come quick enough.

dramaqueen72 · 15/07/2005 08:13

morning ladies
thomcat no definate movement here, a few moments of 'was that it?' but nothing i would be 110% about, so relax
AWFUL pain last night, and v miserableto say its the pain i kept getting last pg with dd2too. searing -and I mean horrific- pain thro both kidneys that leaves me crying and doubled up on floor. goes eventually, esp with lots of water. thing is I had this last time, five or six attacks, and they could find nothing, even scanned my kidneys= all normal. I cant tell you how much it hurts then my back aches for ages after too. dont want to think about it reoccurring again and again. dh v worried, but i ddeclined a dr visit, because they found nothing last time. (someone else thinks it sounds like kidney stones -any of you guys have a clue?)
but aside from that all is well with belly bean and me.

oh if you have any party game ideas for 10yr+ please post them on my party game thread, dd1 turns 11 this weekend and need to constantly entertain her herd of girlies bonkerz, your 5yr party sounded lovely! but tiring!......

sweetheart · 15/07/2005 08:19

Morning all,

DQ - gosh that sounds horrible!!! I hope your feeling better today. Would it not be worth a trip to the Dr's?? They might be able to pick something up this time!?!?!? Anyway, hope this doesn't continue for you and that you are felling better today.

On the steralization subject - I told dh about this last night and said we should think about it. He said no - just because I'd read something on the internet doesn't mean we will forget about steralizing (well thats if I don't bf of course).

Minnie, just out of interest - what did you get for your wedding this weekend?? Anything nice??

george32 · 15/07/2005 08:40

Morning everyone.
No, no movement here either TC.

DQ, meant to ask, how did your haircut go? Are you looking glamourous now? Sorry you are having so much pain, it does sound terrible.

Bonkerz, WOW!!! That is amazing. I think I'm putting it on at the rate you are losing it!!

Well I'm delighted its another Friday as I can get home by 2.00pm.

scully · 15/07/2005 09:01

having some vague movements I think, last night was the first time in 2 wks of 'is that, isn't that' that I was 99% sure it was the baby moving! I'm 18wks tomorrow and it's my 2nd but I'm still all bit a vague about what I'm feeling.....
2nd midwife appt this afternoon, looking forward to hearing the heartbeat, and leaving work at 2pm
hope you're feeling better dq, sounds awful. as for steralising, we used an advent electric one last time and I will probably use it again, for the first few months at least. can do without it cluttering up my kitchen for a year though, like it did last time.......

Nemo1977 · 15/07/2005 09:03

morning all

goldenoldie · 15/07/2005 09:43

sweetheart · 15/07/2005 10:01

It just sounds funny - a bit like the 10 o'clock news

BONK golden oldie has put on weight
BONK sweetheart is taken into intensive therepy

Sorry, it's a slow day..........

ninah · 15/07/2005 10:34

hello again everyone
Listen, with ds I had virtually NO movement during the preg, we went away on hols when I was about 25 weeks and everyone was asking was there movement and getting secretly concerned, I think he was moving but cos I am quite tall, way he was positioned I couldn't feel it. and nothing so far with this one. I mean, I never had that thing where you can see alien shapes in your tummy so please everyone - try not to worry! every other week is a wee test or a blood test, if something's wrong they're gonna know about it!
Well I had yesterday 'off' as ds threw up some Ribena at 4.30am but he was fine all day and we did go to the beach tho I reckon I overdid it cos he was up at 3 and 4am this morning with a temp. Normally I wouldn't take a child out on a non school day but he is only 2.10! and it's either get some fresh air or be bored to death in the house, we don't have garden. He was in a foul temper tho and was really rude to the friend we took with us 'I don't like you' etc. He is much better today apparently.
Congratulations on your engagement Mychelle! funnily enough I am trying to persuade ds to buy me a ring for my birthday not even a bleedin' card yet the so and so I left him one on the worktop today so he knows the size will see what he comes up with

sweetheart · 15/07/2005 10:59

ninah, glad to hear your ds was OK afer all.

God I'm so bored today - roll on the weekend!!!!

bonkerz · 15/07/2005 11:35

Morning ladies, have you all gone quiet? We shall never make the next thread at this rate!!

Went doctors this morning and have stronger anti biotics, also strong thrush cream and a thrush pesserie which takes 3 days to dissolve! lovely! Also had a swab taken which was horrid cos im so sore. Got to go back in 7 days and have the tests done again to check if any better!!

ninah · 15/07/2005 12:42

ono! a call from nursery ds temp right back up, poor thing, see you on Monday ladies

babygibbon · 15/07/2005 14:20

Congratulations mychelle!

Is it true about the eternity ring? Great news, I'll have to mention it to DH (it'll have to be on the arrival of no. 2 though, coz we've missed the boat with DD)

Sorry I haven't been on here for a while - everything is happening this month. I'm doing a degree part time through the OU and two of the courses end this month, one with an exam, one with a residential school, so busy revising. This, in conjunction with a close friend's wedding, the launch of Harry Potter (I work in the book industry), working full time, looking after DD and being pregnant in this heat, is knackering me out!

Still, thought I could include this as revision as DQ and Nemo were discussing blood pressure, and I'm studying human biology. So here we go:

Blood pressure includes two values. As you know, the heart contracts and relaxes when beating. The higher number (systolic) is recorded just after your heart has contracted, and pushed blood out of your heart, meaning it will be moving at quite high pressure (hence the figure is higher). The diastolic pressure (the lower one) is recorded when the heart is relaxed and filling with blood.

There isn't a fixed threshold for high blood pressure (that's why they monitor you over a period of time and establish what's normal for you, then any major deviation from that is considered worthy of investigation), but if you are under 40, anything below 140/90mmHg is considered normal. If you are over 40, you can do 100 + your age for average systolic which gives you a little more leeway.
Does this make any sense?

On the baby front, I'm determined to get started on TP tuesdays, but haven't got round to it. Next week, I promise. Had a midwife appt yesterday and heard baby's heartbeat. V. reassuring. And have finally felt him / her move, although not regularly yet (I was lying on my stomach doing some revision - obviously baby objected to the lack of space available!)
Anyway, keep posting! I don't get to post much but love reading about what's going on...

george32 · 15/07/2005 14:37

Just a flying visit from me. Got home & DP has surprised me & we are off to Cornwall for the weekend.
I'll be on the beach by 7.00pm!!

Have a good weekend & I'll catch up on Monday
x

sweetheart · 15/07/2005 14:56

oh george - how lovely - you lucky lady. If I give you my phone number can your dh ring my dh and give him lessons on how to be romantic

Babygibbon - thanks for the blood pressure info - glad you reminded me, I found something in a book yesterday I wanted to post.

"During the first and second trimester if systolic pressure (the upper number) is over 130 or rises by 30 over the baseline reading or the diastolic pressure (the lower number) is over 85 or rises by 15 over the baseline reading and stays up for at least two readings taken at least 6 hours apart, close observation, and possible treatment is warranted"

Sounds pretty complicated to me - I remember someone saying that the high number should be about double the low number?!?!?!?!?!?!

Thomcat · 15/07/2005 17:08

My midwife had to blow out our appt, she's stuck somewhere for several hours and can't make it. Gutted. I can't stop crying! Had long day out with all the school kids for lotties annual outing, hot, headachey and hormonal and now cryings made all 3 worse! She say she'll pop round tomorrow as I said i was desperate to see her, I can't feel baby and need reassurance before holiday on wednesday. Wish she was here now though so I could stop being silly and stop crying.
