Nemo1977 · 29/07/2005 08:56

Morning all

hello Minnie how are you doing?

I am 20 WEEKS TODAY

think i may take Ds to the park today as its semi ok outside so we shall see.

MINNIE1 · 29/07/2005 08:59

Morning Nemo,

Well done you on your 20wks I'm 2 weeks behind you. Its weird cause we were so worried (still are) but feel alot more relaxed about pregnancy. Roll on Dec!

Nemo1977 · 29/07/2005 09:05

thanks minnie...im surprised at how quick time has gone considering i found out at 3 n bit weeks pg so its really mad.

scully · 29/07/2005 09:46

& I'm 20 wks tomorrow
halfway there already, initially time felt like it was dragging but now it's the opposite. still haven't bought anything for bump, want to see what's in the loft first but can't see me getting around to that anytime soon!

starrynight · 29/07/2005 10:31

I'm 20 wks next Tues and have my scan a week on monday. Some of you should have had your anomoly scan already - can't remember anyone saying so presumably all went OK?

Papillon · 29/07/2005 10:39

Hi All

Hey starrynight I am due December too !
I did have the 12 week scan but have decided on no further ultrasounds as I have reservations about their effects, both personally and from research I have seen.

Otherwise, everything is going beautifully, except sleep which was not good last pregnancy. I use the iPod to listen to music at nights when wakeful. Have been trying to conquer night time thirst by placing my tongue on the roof of my mouth - hence my mouth is shut abit more and less liklihood of dryness!! Incidentally I read yesterday that Hatha Yoga encourages the tongue to be like that.

Baby kicking more an more

Now we just have to think of a boy and girl name which is soooo hard.

scully · 29/07/2005 10:46

names - impossible, we've decided. have a shortlist for either sex but nothing that we are in love with. looking forward to my 20wk scan on 8/8 - anything for a half day off work
bump is kicking more regularly each day, which is great to feel

sweetheart · 29/07/2005 10:54

Its great to see so many of you passing the 20 week mark. Makes me feel very sentimental about this thread - hugs to everyone who has created such a positive atmosphere here for the last 20 week, especially for those of us who have had a very stressfull few months - I think you'll agree it's all been worth it. We are a lucky thread indeed

I had my anomaly scan last week - when we found out the sex. All was well - incase you hadn't guessed

scully · 29/07/2005 13:04

Can't finish my lunch, sadly, really want to but I'm too full! Have noticed this suddenly happening in the last week......difficult to remember when you're starving and ordering lunch

starrynight · 29/07/2005 13:26

Scully I need to constantly graze - I can't eat a lot at one sitting which is not normal for me at all. I just want to eat all the time.

Papillon- didn't know you were on this thread! When are you due? I also had reservations about scans (saw some research about effects on baby boys but that was early not late scans) but can't fight the temptation! lol. The midwife already thinks i'm a freak because I have refused any testing for DS or CF, am not having the baby at the local hosp and am refusing my anti-d injection at 26 wks. Never mind, i'm used to it

sweetheart · 29/07/2005 13:41

starry,

I would be quite interested to hear why you have made the chocies you've just mentioned if you don't mind discussing them - sorry if I've opened a can of worms - tell me to shut up

scully · 29/07/2005 13:52

anti-d injection, does everyone have this?

sweetheart · 29/07/2005 14:02

Only women who have a Resus negative blood group!!!

scully · 29/07/2005 14:03

That explains why I don't need it then!

starrynight · 29/07/2005 15:50

Sh - no don't mind at all! (Wouldn't discuss in class tho' as could bias other parents - but hey i'm just a mum on here )

I chose no tests because I wouldn't want an amnio or do anything regardless of results which would mean that if the results came back high I would just be worried sick the rest of the pg: I wouldn't have an amnio so would never be sure.

I don't like the local hosp (easy )

I have had 3 children without needing anti-d during pregnancy and don't see why I should have it now just because of hosp policy change! Its a horrible injection, very deep and painful and why choose to have 2 when 1 will do?!

HTH

starrynight · 29/07/2005 15:51

And having been to conferences where the drugs co. that make anti d push it really hard and they are the main reason behind policy change - hey what can I say, i'm a sceptic. LOL

sweetheart · 29/07/2005 15:56

Yes, I agree thats it's painful. I had one in January after I lost my little boy. It's the worst injection I've ever had!!!

I'd still have it again though. I wouldn't want to take any unnessecary risks.

dramaqueen72 · 29/07/2005 15:57

ladies ladies, so much chatting! glad all is well. I am doing well today, but have been poorly last two days that stupid kidney pain came back with a vengance and knocked me sideways. have had traces of blood in my urine and am now being tested for kidney infections/kidney stones, much 'hmmmmmmmmm'-ing from Drs. have joined you bonkerz on the antibiotics!
seems i may well have to have a kidney scan -can you believe that with this sweet cute baby inside they want to scan my BACK!?LOL might just have to convince them they need to peek in the front too!
am 19wks this weekend. gosh yes doesnt it seem to hurry by after week 12?Infact i lost count a few times now....

starrynight · 29/07/2005 16:08

Sh, I too will have the anti d - after the baby is born. I haven't seen any research or statistics which show the necessity for anti d at 26 wks.

starrynight · 29/07/2005 16:21

Sh this page on the radical midwives site may be of interest (unless you read through the whole thing just 'find' "anti" on the page to find the right bit) and this article is a review of all the evidence which I also found useful.

starrynight · 29/07/2005 16:26

Oh yes, the shortened version of the NICE guidelines are here which shows that it is now recommended for all pg women to have routine anti d antenatally

HTH, very personal decision.

sweetheart · 29/07/2005 16:29

DQ - sorry your not feeling well, at least you are being well looked after by the Dr's!!!!

Starry, I'll have a read through your links and I'll also ask my mw her opinions next week. To be honest, I don't trust myself enough to make this kind of decision. If my mw were to say it was what they recommend then thats good enough for me.

I know I should probably research these things more myself but I'd be worried about doing the wrong thing.

sweetheart · 29/07/2005 16:31

Also the baby I lost was tested to see if it was my blood that had killed him. It was a very stressful time and I wouldn't ever want to be able to blame myself for loosing a child.

starrynight · 29/07/2005 16:34

Its odd, I had an early mc and asked for anti d but they said there was no point. I still don't know why but luckily everything was Ok. The links are really long and if you don't mind the injection then thats fine (my main reason for refusing I have to say ).

Another reason is that I don't want any more children after this so will only have the anti d after as a 'just in case' - maybe if I was planning more or it was a possibility I would make a different decision. Like everything, its very personal and most people don't mind. Guess i'm just a little awkward!

FYI www.radmid.demon.co.uk is a very useful site if anything does pop up that you would like to know more on. Lots of archived articles & letters written by mws on loads of topics.
