Great news kapars - go on, you can tell us, we won't tell anyone!

I haven't bought anything yet - we have one thing which is a bath support we picked up at a Freecycle type event, but that's it. DH says it's far too early to even think about it, but I don't think so! Mind you I am very much in favour of cast offs etc, I'm not one of these people who will insist on getting everything new (wtf?) so I'd quite like to know what we might get given first before shopping! So far I know my PILs are going to get the family crib out of the attic, and my uncle and partner are passing on a doorway baby bouncer thing. My two good friends with babies will pass on loads of girls' clothes and my neighbour may well pass on boys stuff, plus other things - not sure what! I'm so greedy...

Since Christmas I have been very much enjoying a weekly glass of red wine, normally on a Friday night. I refuse to feel guilty, it is so lovely and relaxing, and a small glass lasts me about three hours so I don't think it is having any ill effects. I am also missing lager - I couldn't stand the non-alcoholic Cobra, or Kaliber - the nicest one to my taste is Becks Blue.

I feel absolutely huge at the moment - my bump now sticks out further than my boobs and it's pretty obvious that I'm pregnant and not just fat. If I'm this big now, how big will I be in another 5 months' time... eeek! No one has commented either way on how big it is though so I'm hoping it must be about right.

Emster30 · 18/02/2010 19:18

Ooh just to make clear I'm not criticising anyone spending loads on a pram or whatever - I'm just all in favour of getting as much as you can second hand which then means you can spend more money on the things that really matter to you, like prams!

GlastonburyGoddess · 18/02/2010 19:19

viksam Im in glastonbury! not under anyone at the moment as such, but scans etc at musgrove park-although considering theyve got 7 wards shut due to noro, Im dreading going there tuesday for my scan, thats the last thing I need right now

Was thinking of having baby at home, but dp really not keen at all. considering either st peters in shepton, which would be nice as I know most of the staff as Ive worked there before, or possibly brackon birth unit at musgrove, hate going to taunton though as its quite a way from us. maybe I should opt for yeovil, we could end up on the ward together lol, remind me when your due?
Only thing that puts me off about yeovil is the fact its got windows all the way round and can end up a bit like a greenhouse in the summer-have you got children/given birth there before?

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/02/2010 19:33

em Im with you on getting as much as you can second hand, we are being given/bought ALOT of things from very generous family members, im the first of my friends having a baby so I will most likely be the one to give them things!

Im also with you on the bump too! Im 18 and half weeks now and def look more preg than fat, although I felt like I was having a "fat" day today but now ive eaten dinner it looks very rounded and sticks out further than my boobs (although it doesnt take much!) but I guess its all in proportion for my body size/shape.

viksam if you want to do classes with the NCT I would get in touch with them now as their classes get booked up quickly, I think they recommend getting in touch around 20weeks.

Very exciting everyone getting their scans, mine is March 2nd I think, am making a point of not working out how many days to go.

Have had a really hectic week, can't believe how much quicker time flies when you are on holiday, not looking forward to work on Monday, I know I quite enjoy it when I get there, but has been nice having a week of relaxed mornings.

I am still really undecided about pushchairs, the one I want doesn't exist! I want an all terrain 3 wheeler travel system that folds up really small is really lightweight and will cost me under £150 and will be easy to get on and off the bus even if there isn't disabled access... At the moment I am contemplating owning 3 buggies, which is just daft isn't it? Even if I pass my test I may not be able to afford keeping a car on the road during mat leave.. I think I need to stop thinking about it all and remember shops are still open after babs is born.

Asked dd what she wants to call the baby, she said 'boy'

viksam · 18/02/2010 20:53

emster I know we have spent loads on the pram but im also in BIG favour of handmedowns, Im not sure I'll get much tbh my brothers little girl is 2 but sil sister had a baby a year ago so im guessing all their stuff went to her as they havent offered me anything yet. Mom and Dad offered to buy the pram but I strongly suggested they choose something else as we knew we would spend a lot on that.
Glasto My due date is 15th. I know what you mean about the greenhouse effect I was there for my lap&dye a few years ago, It was nice and bright though. I had all my fertility treatement there and couldnt recommend them more highly. They were all so lovely and caring and I feel very happy to be going there. I would say that journey to Taunton would be a pain for u, yeovil would be much better, what about classes, is there somewhere local to u? If you fancy a trip to the coast go via bridport and check out 'baby gear' its such a nice place, small but packed to the rafters with stuff and lovely people. Is there anywhere good in Glasto?
Kapars Congrats, there is no feeling like it i felt on top of the world after 12 wk scan, hoping i feel the same after next week. Im with you on the anxious thing, i have never suffered a MC just have never been able to be pregnant naturally so full to the brim of anxiety. Are u going to let us in on wether its a little girl or a little boy, i see where ur coming from being able to imagine the future, never looked at it like that, do tell............
wonder I will look into classes asap, lol at dd name for lo!

stac14 · 18/02/2010 21:48

Fab news about the scan kapars hope your feeling more relaxed now

emster in complete agreement about hand-me-downs but unless lo is a girl we wont be getting anything so we are having to go down the route of comparing prices

viksam they recommend trying to get a class about now, you've reminded me I need to get mine sorted. becky are you going to the ones in the royal? Think I may be sent to top up classes as this is my 2nd

jojobil i am just back from asda who do great baby clothes, they are doing 3 sleep suits for £5 7 body suit vests for £7, I know its a long time ago but I use george stuff for ds and my friend uses them for dd, great for washing and quality. Cant wait to know if we're having a boy or a girl so I can go shopping lol

glaston hows your spd? I just went shopping with dp and my right hip is aching. Do you think the long tubular pillows are any good? They are about £45 but can be used for lo afterwards

mlic is that not the usual the kids get and we get nothing, how was your dinner from marks?

kapars congratulations you deserve to be relaxed and happy now, enjoy it! I cannot wait til our scan next Friday, keep chanting the names we've chosen in my head like the 'daddy or chips?' advert! This baby better show itself on the day!
Viksam seraphine is good for work trousers but not cheap and only online unless you are in London. I'm going down the route of buying dresses so can wear them for longer and only have to wear one thing not top and trousers but going to get some of their roll top black trousers as now having to yank my non-maternity tights up is doing my head in!

I guess I've been bad compared to everyone else as have had a glass and odd sip of wine over the last 3-4 weeks really didn't want it before then but now got the envy...advice is 1-2 glasses a week but trying to have weeks with nothing. Oh dear feel like bad mum to be now but everyone has to do what is right for them I suppose.

viksam · 18/02/2010 22:09

My DH has just come over and had a look at my belly, which is hanging over my PJ bottoms like a giant muffin top and he has accused it of being just fat the cheeky whatsit!........he is probably right but id also say he is in giant denial!! I have put on 8lb's thats not to bad is it?? I do feel fat rather than pregnant i must admit.
flexab23 dont feel bad, like you said, u do what u feel confortable with, its probably better that you have a glass of wine and are happy than if you deny urself and are unhappy. I may just join you in a glass this weekend!
I just signed up for my local class which is in May, also there is a nearly new sale in April so shall be going to that, couldnt see how to join or get a newsletter though, what am i missing?

Why did thet go on twice?? I dont get it?? Sorry guys.

GlastonburyGoddess · 18/02/2010 22:35

Wonderstuff-It may not be a daft idea to have more than one pram, Ive always had a large 3wheeler and a small umbrella fold maclaren with my two and picked and chose which one to take depending on where I was going. I would highly recommend looking on ebay and narrowing down the search to distance closest to you-you can find some absolute gems of bargains!
As for the car, don?t forget that car insurance can be paid monthly by DD and I always buy PO saving stamps(£5 each) each week to save up for my tax rather than paying nrly £200 up front. Lol about ?boy?

Viksam- The journey to taunton is a royal pita when in labour tbh.Do yeovil have a birthing pool? I?ll go and check out that shop you recommended when the weathers a bit nicer, sounds good. No theres nothing in glastonbury, all shops are either crystal shops or meditation/yoga/insence?you get the picture. Theres a woman who has a 2nd hand babystore, but she gets all her stuff from cheddar car boot then sells it for 6x the price she paid! And seeing as I go to the booty every week come nicer weather, and go mega early, I get many more bargains than I could in her store! Lol

Stac- Cr*p really, am finding codeine impossible to take as it knocks me out and makes me feel tired as anything for 24hrs after Ive taken it, not ideal when looking after 4+6yr olds during half term
ok, pillows. I have had the grobag one since ds1 see here It is ok, but I wouldn?t recommend it if your going to spend a reasonable amount. If I were to buy another, it would be one with normal pillow stuffing, not beanbag type-it annoys me too much as the beans go up one end and you end up with saggy bits-eg when I lie with it between my legs to try and alleviate the pain, the beans collect at the top and bottom, so Im tending to use normal pillows instead. Hope that helps.

Chulita · 19/02/2010 08:56

I bought a dreamgenii last week from ebay (new) and so far it seems really comfy. I was reccomended it by two friends who had spd. I don't have spd but I'm an incorrigible back-sleeper so I wanted something to prop me up. It is expensive but you can use it for your LO afterwards so it evens out I think...

Chulita · 19/02/2010 08:59

Happy Friday everyone! DH is working from 8am tomorrow til 8am Sunday and then will be sleeping it off so we don't have a weekend this week. Annoying because I'd love him to take DD for a bit, she's ill and that always makes life a little bit harder!

violetbubbles · 19/02/2010 09:40

Morning!
Great news about the scan kapars - it's such a relief to get it over with isn't it? I didn't like it when the sonographer went all quiet for about 15 minutes but I guess she had to concentrate to make sure she got all her measurements.

I'm buying a couple of pairs of maternity trousers this weekend. I quite like the black combat trousers in New Look and H&M - and because they're nice and light, with the option to turn them up at the bottom they'd be a good investment for my spring and summer wardrobe .

Not buying any 'baby stuff' until we move into our new house in April but I'm storing all of your recommendations about buggies and car seats on a spreadsheet!

Speaking of recommendations...I remember a while back a few of you were discussing a good yoga dvd -can anyone remember the name of it? I'd like to order it.

Feeling much better today so I'm off to aquanatal this morning!

Jojobil · 19/02/2010 11:13

Hi Violet I use Pregnancy Health yoga with Tara Lee and that's quite good

I'm just a little disappointed. I guess I should not complain. But I got this lovely cashmere bled blanket for baby back in January. Yesterday a friend contacted me saying she is doing a baby wrap in merino forest green which is nice. But then my husband said his mum is making a blanket and his cousins wife got in touch with me she is is making a green wrap! That makes it 4 in total! Not mentioning it's a summer baby. Talking of something we don't need..

Chulita · 19/02/2010 11:45

jojo, you can't have too many blankets! DD had a lovely knitting one from my Grandma but the poos...oh my word, the poos...you need at least 2 for wash and wear, and then one for the buggy so you don't go out without it, and one for the car...I'm going to try and knit one myself for this LO as well as DD's old one.
violet, I have the 'yummy mummy' yoga/salsa DVD which is pre and post natal. It's quite good too but I'd like another to alternate I think.

Jojobil · 19/02/2010 11:51

I never had any poos or problems with my 5 year old Although the Grandma one is in bits, but that's cause the baby wool is very delicate and rips....

Gillybean2010 · 19/02/2010 12:12

Hello all! Wondering if I can join? I'm due with our first baby on 2nd July 2010 - we had our 20 week scan on Tuesday and found out that we're expecting a boy - so exciting!

Jojobil · 19/02/2010 12:18

Gillybean2010 congrats and welcome

DesperateHousewife21 · 19/02/2010 12:33

Hi gillybean congrats on your baby boy, how exciting for you! Welcome to our thread

I need to buy something for my DP's first birthday tomorrow and I have no idea what to get
Might go to the shops later to have a look round.
Im very glad its the weekend DP will be with me and we have so much to do, his niece's party, friends coming over in the evening, also need to fit in shopping and seeing family on Sunday. Such a busy weekend!

Jojobil · 19/02/2010 12:39

Desperate have you thought about a wagon? They love them at this age and it helps them to learn to walk Although they are quite pricey...

Chulita · 19/02/2010 12:55

Is your other child a DS or a DD? I heard tales that girls tend to make more of a mess...I wouldn't know though, I've only got the one DD always pooed up her back and cos we swaddled her it would get everywhere!
Welcome gillybean!

Jojobil · 19/02/2010 13:14

Chulita I have a DD a now 5 year old daughter I did not swaddle her. I am expecting a boy and not planning to swaddle him neither so 4 blankets/wraps is a lot and very unnecessary. I wish people would check in before doing things like that
