Just updating my due date, got changed from 20th at scan to 24th! All looked good with little bean, very excited! Have been looking at maternity package at work, anyone else employed by NHS? Think it is quite a good one! Glad to see your good news bigmuther!

littlemiss72 · 06/02/2010 11:51

Hi Ladies, could I ask you to remove me from the list next time you update it. Many thanks x

neenz · 06/02/2010 13:12

Sorry Littlemiss, hope you are OK and being taken care of

Great news bigmuther and soontobefat - lovely to hear that after you were worrying so much.

Talk of going back to work is so depressing! I work two days a week and I am really not enjoying it now. I had 16m off with the twins which was great.

I get 6wks 90% then 7-18wks half pay+SMP then SMP up to 39wks so not too bad.

I'll work till about 36wks pg this time and then I'll have to quit cos 3 in childcare will wipe out all my earnings (I will have to go back for a few mths first though to keep my mat pay). I am thinking of registering as a cm and doing school pick-ups etc. Atm I only come out with about £350 a month after childcare so not too much to lose. DH is a partner in a law firm and earns a decent wage so I feel very lucky.

My advice is cut down on as many outgoings as possible eg cars because you will probably not want to work too much after! Better to be at home than drive an expensive car IMO.

I had a cheese and onion pasty yesterday and it was FAB!!

neenz · 06/02/2010 13:15

Sorry that sounded a bit crass . Lots of people have to work and don't have expensive cars either... sorry if I offended anyone!

ElusiveMoose · 06/02/2010 14:03

No, not crass at all, Neenz. Of course some people absolutely have to work, but others (like me) are able to give up as long as they make cut-backs. We lost 70% of our joint income when I stopped working, which was a bit of a body-blow, but we just about manage. Only run one car, haven't had a holiday since DS was born, and just generally live more frugally. TBH a lot of outgoings naturally go down once you have a baby - like anything you used to spend on your social life . The only luxury I refuse to give up is my Waitrose habit - but I do cook much more economic meals than I did before!!

Great news on your scans, bigmuther and soontobefat .

neenz · 06/02/2010 19:41

Yes the money you spend on going out reduces significantly! We have a takeaway once a week and that is our treat (and it's lovely ).

In fact, DH has just gone out to get the curry now [yum]. And some biscuits/chocolate too

I have enjoyed a small glass of wine today and yesterday (just an inch at the bottom of the glass) and I have to say it was divine

neenz · 06/02/2010 19:44

Anybody going to be watching One Born Every Minute? There's an ad for it on the side of this page! Starts Tues on C4. I will probably have a little look but there's so much good TV on at the mo I can hardly keep up (Shameless, Lost, 24, Desperate Housewives, Glee , 90210 !!)

girlsyearapart · 06/02/2010 20:44

We had curry tonight too neenz then Dh went off to work so I'm watching that show about the Duggar family called 17 kids and counting (must be old though cos they have 19 now!)

Definitely going to watch one born every minute. Can't stop watching birth shows!

Am aching after my body balance class today. Have so much to do - washing up, wet washing to hang up etc but can't be bothered in the slightest. Will leave it for the morning I think.

Has anyone else got a funny taste in their mouth? I have had all day- sort of like when you've eaten too many sweets/fizzy drinks. Can't shift it driving me crazy!

vitapulchra · 06/02/2010 23:10

soontobefatnat--what wonderful news! I'm very, very happy for you!

Doodleydoo · 07/02/2010 21:14

Hi Ladies

So glad you are all doing well, told the inlaws today and although was worried (I have no idea why!) they were really brilliant and so excited! My sil is due 4 months before too so everyone thinking will be really good for the cousins! Big joke if we go for #3, who will do it first but I think that could be a long way off.

Have to say ret smp/ pay/ work, I don't think going to be too much of a shock this time round as I swapped financial gain to keep the company car (we live in the back end of beyond - so actually my car is worth more than my salary iyswim) as having 2 is quite essential for us - lets put it this way - 2.5 miles to the nearest village, no bus route, no neighbours and my dh works 75 miles away....but our choice and that is why I went with the car, especially as I don't have to pay for anything to do with it. Last time round though it was a mega shock to go from full time salary to nada, but nada to nada (as get to keep the car!) ain't too bad.

Although am hoping for a curry, don't think it is going to happen without some serious planning!

soontobefatnat · 07/02/2010 22:31

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! We've had a lovely weekend - finally coming up on 12 weeks and feel like everything's coming together.

The two things I actually need to get my arse in gear about are diet and exercise. All I eat is white bread, sugar and crappy carbs at the moment. Very unlike me! So I've got the day off tomorrow and am going to get some nice healthy stuff in the house so there's no excuse.

I also went to an antenatal yoga class tonight to try and get some exercise in. My first ever yoga class! (I've always been pretty skeptical about it, but thought I would give it a go). Anyway, I really enjoyed that, so I think a bit of yoga, a bit of swimming, walking every day... a little bit of cycling here and there (although not my frantic London commute, I think) and that should hopefully do it.

Have a nice week everyone!

Chulita · 08/02/2010 11:12

Grr! It's Monday already, where did the weekend go?
I had a horrible dream last night where my best friend said I was a crap mum and that DD was happier without me. And loads of my old school friends took DD away and I was trying to get her back while they were all running me down. I feel really down and lonely today, how silly is that? She lives in the States and I haven't been in touch with her for a while so maybe it's half guilt... The dreams are so vivid that even though I sleep quite well, I wake up knackered!

LCRLCR · 08/02/2010 11:18

Whew - morning for me here, just came out to work. Everyone really pleased and supportive but I was nervous just the same. I'm 13 weeks now - when do you ladies inform your employers?

Also - and we may well be mad - we booked a venue for our wedding yesterday for May 15th. Yep 3 months away! So I need to find a dress to accomodate me but have no idea how I'm goign to grow! Anyone else get married pregnant - what did you wear? Adn now I've got a wedding to plan.......don't do things by halves do we!

Doodleydoo · 08/02/2010 11:32

Look at isabella oliver for wedding dresses LCRLCR, they might have some good sizes although don't expect them to be too inexpensive!!!!!

Have told my boss, but not officially, will be writing a letter some time this week I think!

Alicetheinvisible · 08/02/2010 11:39

Morning

Chulita i keep having random stressful dreams, horrid isn't it?

Have just booked my 20wk scan (only 6 1/2wks away!) It all seems so much more real now doesn't it?

Just been to the old fashioned sweet shop in town to get some sweets for my mum and got a bag of fudge for myself

Chulita · 08/02/2010 11:40

I like this one or just google 'maternity wedding dress' - you get loads come up! You're brave

Alicetheinvisible · 08/02/2010 11:56

LCR Congrats! What sort of wedding are you having? If a low key do, then perhaps an empire line maxi-dress?

Chulita · 08/02/2010 11:59

mmm...fudge, hope you're sharing alice

NichyNoo · 08/02/2010 12:11

Morning all! Congrats on setting a wedding date LCRLCR

I've just been to the GP - was a bit worried about some bad groin pains that I was having last week which suddenly stopped a few days ago and left me feeling really great, slim and basically not pregnant at all! Anyway, went to the GP and heard the heartbeat through the doppler! So relieved!!

Missus84 · 08/02/2010 12:43

Had my midwife appointment today and was very brave and let her take blood Though she did have to bribe me with listening to the baby's heartbeat afterwards as a reward

Also seem to have had my due date adjusted to the 31st July for reasons that are unclear

augustsun · 08/02/2010 12:45

Hello all, please can you give me some quick advice? After I knew I was pregnant, in November I called my GP for booking an appointment with the midwife (they have an internal prenatal clinic) that was booked for mid December. It was cancelled because the midwife was sick and re-booked for January. In January was cancelled because it was a day of heavy snow and schools and GPs were closed. The lady that called me took all my pregnancy details over the phone and reassured me that I would have received a letter from the hospital for my first scan and soon after that a call from the midwife to arrange an appointment. I actually had my scan about two weeks ago on time and all was ok. But I haven't heard back from the midwife yet. I called the GP and they said that their midwifes operate separately from them and gave me a private mobile number to call... now, I hate chasing people and I feel that, since November, I should have had the chance to talk with a midwife without chasing her. Probably she thinks that I had my scan and she doesn't need to call me soon, still this doesn't satisfy me

Alicetheinvisible · 08/02/2010 12:49

Erm...She is your MW, and is responsible for your care. This includes blood tests, screening, scans, advice etc, and general monitoring.

I had to chase mine and it was just a case of having slipped through the net. Give her a ring and leave a message if you don't get an answer.

Chulita · 08/02/2010 12:50

Chase her, chase her, hunt her down if you have to. I had to do this with my MW - bloody irritating that you have to but it's their job to look after us when we're pg so they may as well! 3 months is a long time!
