cakey my sister takes her washing to the lauderette at the corner to tumble dry. Her DP went to pick it up and dropped a pair of her knickers so stuffed them in his pocket..

Later on at the pub as he took his wallet out to pay out came the knickers

Re drinking- before I found out with both of the dds it was xmas and I drank corresponding with the festive season..

THis time it turns out I was nearly 8 weeks before I found out so had had a few drinks (as much as could be expected when you have 2 toddlers to get up with) and did a 15k run.

Oh well.

vita how are you feeling today?

ElusiveMoose · 03/02/2010 08:17

Hi all

Re drinking, I had half a bottle of wine and some gin the night before I got my positive pregnancy test. I'd been off alcohol for 9 months while we were TTC, and then when I started bleeding that evening when my AF was due, I was so pissed off to have failed to get pregnant for another month, that I decided to throw caution to the wind and get drunk. Turned out to be implantation bleeding, and I got my BFP the next morning .

apricots yes, that was indeed the inspiration for my MN name. We had a wonderful holiday in Canada a few years ago (when we fell in love with all things Canadian), and while we were there we spent a memorable evening tracking an extremely elusive moose around a lake. Never saw it. And then we found the book in the library, and DS loves it as well.

chulita, I started a thread on beds yesterday and got some quite interesting replies. Most people were advising not to go for a children's bed (unless you want one of those ones with storage underneath), because you only have to buy a bigger one eventually. So I think I'll put DS straight into a single bed, as long as I can find one that isn't too high. FYI, the thread is here

Already had one major tantrum this morning, when DS didn't want to get in the car to take DH to work. Let's hope the rest of the day isn't going to go in a similar way...

Chulita · 03/02/2010 08:26

Lol rubena, I've got a DD, not a DS, and she's not called Vanilla... I was just being stoopid - should've put a in there somewhere Sorry!

Chulita · 03/02/2010 08:31

Thanks elusive, we have a single with a trundle bed underneath, I was thinking of popping her in the trundle without putting the legs up because then it's only mattress height.
DD's thrown up twice this morning, only little baby voms but each time she does, I do...argh! I was fine before finlet came along, now I can't cope with baby sick!

Rubena · 03/02/2010 09:37

Chulita Phew, I was about to leave quietly and close the door behind me, but glad to hear you were joking with me

Dibbydab · 03/02/2010 09:55

Can't get that daft "Ice, Ice, Baby" song out of my head now!

Alicetheinvisible · 03/02/2010 11:39

Morning

Feeling more myself this morning and even have a bit of energy

Toddler beds - we have very small bedrooms, and decided to get DD the cheapest ikea bed (my friend has it for her ds) and a decent mattress, because we knew it would be likely that a cot would have to go in there at some point as well. The toddler bed is a decent size, and my friend's ds is nearly 6 and is still in his comfortably. The problem with cotbeds is that you have to turf the older child out so the new baby can have the cot and they are so expensive.

Missus84 · 03/02/2010 13:54

Wasn't sick today! Didn't even feel sick

Though the sickness seems to have been replaced by ravenous hunger Had breakfast at 8am but was so hungry by 10am I had to stop at a sandwich shop for a snack. Then a big lunch at 12.30 and I'm ready for a snack now...

bouncingblueberries · 03/02/2010 14:01

Go for it missus! Celebrate your puke-free morning!

I went to prenatal yoga last night and it was divine. Nearly two hours devoted entirely to ME and my little bump. I'd forgotten how much I love yoga - I practically floated home afterwards. And despite it being 10pm I didn't feel shattered! Woo hoo! My yoga teacher reckons that 20 minutes of relaxation is as good as 3 hours of sleep . Think I'd rather have the 3 hours of sleep but at least you don't feel all groggy and yuck after a good yoga relaxation!

Dibbydab · 03/02/2010 14:27

I'm scared just read the "3 things you wish you'd known before giving birth" thread.

You ladies that have gone through this before seem so normal, how on earth have you all not needed years of therapy??

KayloHalo · 03/02/2010 14:34

Hi everyone, sorry not been on for a few days - had the weekend off, was ill on Monday (and still a bit green at the gills) and was my birthday yesterday - so am 25 now, just five short years from 30!!!

Good job I don't care - my dh thinks it's hillarious as hes only 23 - my toyboy

Have read through all the posts that I've missed but as my head is pounding and I'm having to concentrate to just not throw up at my desk - I have forgotton most of it so sorry!

Things that did stick in my mind however -

LittleMiss So sorry to read your news - I know this is a little belated but I am definitely thinking of you xxxx

SoonToBeFat Thinking of you too, such a worrying time to go through, fingers crossed your scan goes well xxx

Who was it that had scans today? I shamefully can't remember but good luck to you all

DibbyDab If it was really so bad do you really think we would willingly go through it 2nd and 3rd or more times Bless your heart tho, this is exactly how I felt with dd!!!!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

OP posts:
Chulita · 03/02/2010 14:37

dibby - you're so busy with your LO you don't have time to dwell on how you got it. I think we'd all be slightly mad if we could actually think about it. Whenever I tell anyone about how DD actually got here I get really upset and I am petrified of this next one coming out - but it's got to happen!
of all of you who have yoga/swimming. No chance of a babysitter here so can't realistically take DD in with me. Besides, she'd show us all up by tickling her ears with both feet

ElusiveMoose · 03/02/2010 14:46

Aah, Dibbydab, don't worry. Even though all the things on that list are true, I personally think that birth (and the first 3 months afterwards, actually) are like a complete out of body experience. You really do enter a weird sort of twilight zone when you're in full-on labour, and somehow that makes it easier to put it all behind you afterwards. I had a really crappy birth first time round, yet for some reason I'm not that fussed about the second one. Even though I know that the birth was horrible, somehow I don't really remember what it felt like. Also I think you just have to accept the inevitability of it - you are going to have to go through it, it will be as it will be, and sooner or later it will stop.

My crappy day continues. DS has been in a totally foul mood all day - tantrums over the tiniest thing. It's so unlike him - I don't know what the matter is. And then I lost my temper and yelled at him, which caused him to sob his poor little heart out, so I feel really guilty now. Sigh. Roll on bedtime.

Still, on the plus side, I got the result of my combined Down's test today, and I'm 1 in 1900, which sounds like pretty good odds to me .

neenz · 03/02/2010 15:09

Been for scan, all well - it is just one baby this time! Measuring 12+5 so a few days ahead of what I thought.

DH said 'I was a bit disappointed actually that it wasn't twins again' (there speaks a person who didn't spend seven weeks barely sleeping first time round!).

I am NOT disappointed in the slightest!

Everything looks fine, two arms, two legs, fluid fine and a hb. They are happy for me to be midwife-led care this time and I am even considering a homebirth. Anyone else?

Dibbydab - labour is very hard, very painful but afterwards you feel so proud, like you have joined a really special club. You do think 'there is no way I am doing that again' but that soon passes! My advice would be to read as many books as possible eg Ina May Gaskin and Lamaze... the more you know, the less scared you will be and you will even look forward to it! And if all else fails there is always an epidural

Missus84 · 03/02/2010 15:18

I'm considering a home birth too neenz

A friend recently had a water birth at home, so is hopefully passing on her inflatable birthing pool to me.

ElusiveMoose · 03/02/2010 15:18

Neenz, big congrats on your non-twins . As for a homebirth - pah!! TBH I've never been the earth-mother type, and I just feel happier with a few machines and drugs around me. And DH said that if we had a homebirth, he would make sure he was out at the time .

My day gets more depressing. Just found out that my friend from NCT last time round who is due 2 weeks after me, is miscarrying .

neenz · 03/02/2010 15:27

Elusive, that's so sad about your friend .

Re homebirth, I had the twins with just gas and air and was desperate to get out of hospital afterwards. It was a lovely birth and a nice hospital and the MWs were all great during and after the birth, but I just fancy getting in my bath when labour starts and then giving birth either there or on the bedroom floor! And not having to send DH home afterwards. I have been joking that I planned to stay in for days for a rest but I know when the time comes I'll just want to go home! But will keep an open mind cos I'm not really that bothered, what will be will be. I wouldn't have considered it for my first even if it had been an option (which it wasn't with twins) cos there are just too many unknowns when you've never been through it before!

Chulita · 03/02/2010 15:29

elusive that's horrible I hope you can be useful to her iykwim.
I wanted a homebirth with DD, but one thing you have to be prepared for is not getting what you wanted...so now I'm under consultant care after an em cs. I have a birthpool languishing at the in-laws but I'll never use it. Going to sell it at some point when I get around to it!
Might break out my yoga dvd - anyone want to join me?

KayloHalo · 03/02/2010 16:07

NichyNoo · 03/02/2010 17:05

I read the childbirth thread as well and am slightly scared!! I'm pondering whether to get DH to read it as he uttered the immortal line the other day 'how bad can it be if women do it more than once'

In Belgium as well there is no gas and air or pethidine - you either have an epidural or nothing!

Alicetheinvisible · 03/02/2010 17:21

TBH Nichy, for me the epidural was the only thing that worked anyhow The pethidine relaxed me when i was getting tired so that i could sleep, but then my waters went and suddenly the pethidine seemed to completely have disappeared

Doodleydoo · 03/02/2010 18:04

Hi All

Had scan today - all fine - Nuchal at 1.07mm which seems to be normal just waiting on the blood test result as had a combined test. But baby was sucking thumb! So funny - least not giving us the bird like dd!

My dates are bang on too which makes me feel very organised!

I had all the drugs with dd, tried tens, gas and air, pethidine, epidural (oh my the best thing ever after 2 days of labour!) and then a spinal block for emcs! Therefore anything midwife led I believe is out - at least a home birth is, might be allowed at a unit attached to a hospital but not sure...... got my bounty pack finally which all looks exactly the same as last time - oh well!
(Looking forward to the ovaltine - a little addicted at the moment - need to go and buy a big jar I think!)

Chulita · 03/02/2010 18:25

Epidural did nothing for me, so I definitely won't be having that again - just didn't take any pain away at all. Gas and air makes you feel sick and dizzy, didn't want pethidine cos it makes bablet sleep - only thing that worked for me was a spinal block for em cs. Rubbish! Hoping this one just tumbles out of me while I'm in the bath or something [sticks head back in the sand]

Alicetheinvisible · 03/02/2010 18:26

I had my cs with the epidural, they just topped it up
