OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NichyNoo · 02/02/2010 14:25

Thanks alice - unfortunately I know that I am not immune to it as we have monthly blood tests here and mine keep coming up as 'never exposed to virus before'.

Am going to try not to stress and wait until the 19th Feb [frantically ripping hair out whilst trying to maintain air of calm emoticon]

Missus84 · 02/02/2010 14:39

I've eaten raw eggs, rare meat, prawns, tuna, brie, drunk wine and god knows what else and I haven't bothered to call the doctor so if you're irresponsible I'm much worse

Dibbydab · 02/02/2010 14:43

Welcome new ladies

Congrats on scan FloweryBoots.

Waiting for the first scan is scary no matter what symptoms you have or haven't got Lovesaruby - I had proper vomiting (sorry if tmi) every day until my scan at 12+3 and still wasn't convinced there was a baby there - (see my pics for evidence to the contrary though).

Re buying stuff new/second hand/accepting hand me downs. I would have loved it if someone had have offered us a cot, but alas, my friends children are at primary school now, so they have nothing to pass on (I'm a late starter). DH was adamant that baby would have a new cot and pram (he paid, who am I to argue ), but I expect most other stuff will be from eBay/car boot sales/charity shops.

We got a really nice moses basket and stand from a charity shop at the weekend for £20.00 and a Mothercare baby sleeping bag for £2.75 from the same shop.

We won't be decorating the baby's room - it's cream at the moment, and I'm just going to hang some pretty bunting up that we have left over from our wedding instead of a border around the top of the wall to give it a bit of colour.

Food - tbh, if I can keep it down, I eat it - I'm not normally a sickly kind of person and have a pretty strong consitution (I know pregnancy affects your immune system, so you're more likely to get ill if there are bugs in the food), but everything in moderation I say (though I haven't sipped a drop of alcohol since 25th November!)

NichyNoo , honey, please, please don't worry about the steak, honestly, it's not like you're smoking 60 a day and having a bottle of vodka before breakfast (then I might say something!). You would be ill by now if something were going to happen, but you're going to make yourself ill with the worry of it!

I've had smoked salmon, eaten shop bought coleslaw and pre packed salad without washing it first. Fair enough, I haven't rubbed any cat poo on myself .

NichyNoo · 02/02/2010 14:56

thanks ladies!

This is like a confessional where we all say what 'naughty' things we have done in the past 3 months! I'm not such a stress-head as I sound - don't worry! So far I have:

  • eaten smoked salmon
  • eaten (cooked) prawns
  • eaten feta cheese
  • eaten salad that I very much doubt was washed
  • had a weak bucks fizz on xmas day and on DH's 30th birthday in January
  • had {ahem} quite vigorous sex which became slightly disconcerting when I could put my hand on my tummy and could feel my womb violently bouncing around...poor baby!
Missus84 · 02/02/2010 15:02

I just read Jools Oliver's pregnancy book, and that woman really is a neurotic, obsessive nightmare! She really wouldn't do anything when she was pregnant, not even have sex with poor old Jamie "just in case".

Dibbydab · 02/02/2010 15:03

Oooops, I didn't even know this was on the norty list, I lived on Feta with grapes over Christmas when ms was at it's worst .

Missus84 · 02/02/2010 15:05

I've had hot baths too, I hadn't realised they were banned. And I drink too much diet coke.

Dibbydab · 02/02/2010 15:09

I haven't had sex with Jamie Oliver either

Doodleydoo · 02/02/2010 15:25

I seem to be far more chilled about the bits and pieces than I was before - I even had pate (a bite of) at the weekend. So shoot me now! My sister said by #3 she had all but given up the restraint on food and booze (no getting legless but a couple of glasses here and there!) I keep thinking if only - the only booze I can stomach is champagne (not that we have it regularly) and everything else makes me boak!

12 weeks today and no symptoms as such - told my boss this morning accidentally but he was well over the moon which is great! Now here is the shocker - my boss knows (accidentally!!!) before we told my IL's - will tell them one have had the scan. Oh dear!!!

Aussieng · 02/02/2010 15:29

I don't think Feta is on the naughty list.

I had a little chicken liver pate a week or so ago. I had lots of beer and bratwurst in Berlin before I knew I was pregnant, I have a hot bath every day and I have refused to have my cats put down. Biggest issue with my cats in fact is that my siamese appears to have developpped a fixation about lying on my tummy - whatever that is about.

Dibby I think it would be fine to smear cat poo on yourself - just don't get any in your mouth or inside your eye which of course I did all the time before I got pg

Hello everyone - had a lovely weekend away. Sorry to see that there was some bad news while I was away but hope everyone else is all right including little Vanilla, Chulita

Missus84 · 02/02/2010 15:33

Cats definitely know when you're pregnant!

I couldn't have stomached any alcohol between weeks 6 and 12 even if I'd wanted to. Have had a couple of wine white spritzers in the last couple of weeks though.

mrsZaC · 02/02/2010 15:37

haha man your a chatty bunch this afternoon.

Alice there are a few tummy bugs doing the rounds I hear so hope your feeling better soon

nichy glad to hear your being a bit more relaxed about your steak. Like everyone says if you don't feel poorly your fine

welcome lovesaruby

Rubena love love love your little story! totally true think i'll post on fbook.

LOVE the cot elusive think I'll keep that on my maybe list Would go well with our oak bed.

dibby amazing bargains! I think I'll probably have a mixture of new stuff and 2nd had bargains... can't wait to start shopping

BTW feta is fine so long as it's pasturised, which most of the supermarket stuff is, it's in my yummy mummy pregnancy cook book (highly reccomend!) so I trust it's ok.

godlyness... not a drop of alcohol since that little faint line appeared in December , not a drop of caffinated coffee, tea or soft drinks (yet), and eating what my body wants, which so far doesn't include anything from the naughty list so yippee!

naughtyness... smoked salmon, although I'm not sure if that's on the naughty list or not, had some hot baths.. those luke warm ones are rubbish!

girlsyearapart · 02/02/2010 15:56

I don't mind Layla but I prefer Phoebe. Dd1 is called Lola which is similar though.

We borrowed must of our baby stuff. THe moses basket by the time this bab y comes will be the 9th baby to sleep in it (new mattress each time)

They stayed in that till about 3 months then moved in to cotbeds.

Very lucky to have been given stuff by family and friends.

vitapulchra · 02/02/2010 16:08

Just had my mw booking in appt, and despite my being 11 wks (or so), she couldn't feel even the top of my uterus or find a heartbeat. I've never had this with any of my successful pgs, they've always been able to listen by this time. Can't help but think pessimistically. Anyone not heard a heartbeat this late and everything turned out fine? My scan is the 11th so not long to wait.

girlsyearapart · 02/02/2010 16:40

My mw wouldn't even consider trying to listen to the heartbeat at my booking apt saying it was 'far too early' and I was 12 wks then.

Was she worried?

The 11th is still a while to wait if she was worried she should've sent you for an early scan?

Do you have her number to ring and ask her to refer you to the EPU or call them yourself?

Chulita · 02/02/2010 16:42

Ah! Aussie, little Vanilla is just fine thank you
I borrowed my parents' moses basket for DD, they'd bought it off a car boot sale and I didn't buy a new mattress...is that a faux pas? Maybe I shouldn't admit to that! She only used it for about 10 weeks though so I don't see the point of buying a new one at £40 odd quid!
We're trying to decide whether to move DD into a big girl's bed or to try and squeeze two cot beds in the childrens' room...DD just seems sooooo small to be in a big bed.

Doodleydoo · 02/02/2010 17:09

Chulita - my dd is in a bed the size of a cot bed (hand me down) but she doesn't look too big in that - Ikea do some that extend that aren't too expensive Ikea extendable bed which might be an option, or have a look at kids beds as I think a good transition and a good height too for a small thing!

I think the new mattress for a moses basket is a personal thing if you want it or not - I didn't as my sisters kids were in there but I think its more important in a cot to have a "new" mattress - at least that is what I have been told - the one that I had (mattress) for the borrowed cot was one that had done several children and was a bit saggy! Besides I think moses basket ones can be put in the washing machine on a 30 degree wash so no point in buying one if you don't need too - bit more troublesome with a cot mattress I would assume!

My Scan is tomorrow early am, so am looking forward to it but in a sort of slightly terrified way - a sort of what if. but if my boobs are anything to go by something is going on downstairs as I just have to brush them (the are substantial) against my arm and want to leap around with pain! New Bra required asap I think!

Am running away from work now so maybe catch you later!!!

vitapulchra · 02/02/2010 18:57

Since I live in Guernsey there is no EPU and I won't be referred for an early scan unless I have a bonafide problem. The mw didn't seem worried, so I really shouldn't be, either. Glad to know your mw wouldn't even try--it is comforting. I find it absolutely ludicrous how much one can worry and I'm on DC4!

cakeywakey · 02/02/2010 20:50

Evening ladies - it's been busy on here today!

I had my pregnancy brain on today. I grabbed a wrap around cardigan from the tumble dryer today on the way out to work - peeling off a pair of tights as I went.

When I got to work I was tootling around near my desk and then headed off for the tea and nibbles table. When I got back to my desk, I found a pair of knickers that had fallen off my cardi! I had to carry them around in my handbag all day. At least they were clean though

cazzybabs · 02/02/2010 20:56

cakeywakey - more evidence as to the evilness of the tumble drier

Rubena · 02/02/2010 21:38

Chulita, sorry, didn't mean to offend - it was just an email which was forwarded to me

cazzybabs · 02/02/2010 21:49

I am always about thirty posts behind...anyway

ohh I bet I win the award for the most drunk in the 1st trimester (bad lady - my child is going to be retard or else I will have someking of miscarriage)...before I knew I was I drank 2 massive brandy and cokes (really unlike me because I don't drink), at chrsitmas I had a glass of champagme, whilst skking I had 2 small glasses of champagne (which was actually about 1) and a quarter of glass of red (which I didn't want and didn't want most of)

I am feeling so guilty but it is done now...

I am never too worried about food - because I am veggie and there is not alot that can go wrong apart from cheese and I don't worry about that!

cazzybabs · 02/02/2010 21:51

ohh and still about 40 posts behind..

we got the cheapest crappiest cot from mothercare possible and it has done 3 children and will do another (finger crossed and I am not talking about the cot)

driedapricots · 02/02/2010 22:02

evening all..
it's been a busy day on here! thanks for adding me back on mrszandc
elusive i thought of you today as i saw the book elusive moose at the library!!! presume that was your inspiration??! feel like i've been a good mummy today, managed to limit the tantrums, feed half decent food (even fruit and veg) and go to soft play and the library..plus cleaned the floors whilst she napped and cooked a roast before hubby came in...wow, that's me done for the next few weeks!!
love the words of wisdom rubena - very true. i have a theory that these 'rules' are devised to start us women feeling the guilt before we become mums when we feel guilty forevermore ;-)
and as for drinking before the BFP, hmm...i think i might beat you cazzybabs; i couldn't event list what i had one night out 2 weeks before i realised i was pg this time and with my DD1 i got married 2 days before the BFP and so drank champagne from 2pm-2am..she's fine (sort of!!)

Alicetheinvisible · 02/02/2010 22:17

With DD i went to an 18th birthday party before i found out i was pg. I was on cocktails, then gin then sambuca shots. I was so hungover i felt ill for a week (although it was probably the start of ms) DD is fine. She is healthy, bright and too damn clever for her own good

So this time i have been quite relaxed about alcohol. Around christmas when the tiredness and nausea were very bad, a very weak G&T really helped, and when DH opens a bottle of wine (about once a week) i will have a mouthfull of his or sometimes a small glass of my own. I don't feel guilty about this.
