Hi everyone, just a quick update from me. My scan didn't go so well today. The baby is actually fine - although younger than we thought. Only about 10+2, not 12. However, the baby seems to have a lump in its tummy that the staff at the hospital are worried about.
It's either that the baby is still small and its bowels are still forming and moving around (they grow around the umbilical cord to start, apparently?) and it's nothing than another week or so of growing won't sort out.
OR there's a hole in the baby's abdomen, which means there's a number of issues going on, and possibly congenital problems as well.
The staff at King's were amazing, and they tried to get a consultant to see us right away, but the baby is just too small for them to tell what's going on. We have to wait until next Friday for another scan and we'll take it from there.
It's just incredibly nerve racking and I can't imagine how I'm going to get through the week at work (a couple of scary presentations to deliver, etc), plus my emotions are just all over the shop. I want to remain positive, but it's really hard. My DH is absolutely devastated too - a real shock for him. So, sorry to deliver some sobering news to the thread, but there's not many people who know about our pregnancy and I wondered if any of you had heard of this issue before (I cannot for the life of me remember the official name of the problem - which is probably a good thing as I wouldn't be able to resist Googling to my peril).
Anyway, best wishes to everyone for now.
