Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

Woofie · 23/02/2010 21:42

millymollymoo - I'm York, so not exactly local... In fact I'm not even sure we'd make it to the bar - probably be asleep on the train Btw, I saw your name thread yesterday, and (although I'm biased as I have one) the boys' name I think you were considering is fab - just the right mix of classic and cheeky imo - so it shouldn't matter how popular it is... (though obviously i was fuming when a baby one appeared on eastenders )

MonkeyMargot · 23/02/2010 21:42

woofie LOL at you referring to your unborn DC as thePlum.
DD's real name is Cecily Plum - she is known on MN and in RL as ThePlum / ThePlumster.

DH refers to the twins as Julio and Enrique. As in Iglesias...

CSWS how was your night out?

MillyMollyMoo · 23/02/2010 22:03

Oh the name is Isaac not Oscar, I just wanted to see how often it came up before confessing.
I think we'll still use it but I was so annoyed when we had Freya 6 years ago, I had orginally wanted to use for my eldest back in 2000, but by the time I got around to it, there are 3 in her school and 2 in her year

Woofie · 23/02/2010 22:23

Think you're right to go with the name you love. I feel a bit the same about the inexorable rise of Oscar, but I knew none when we named him 4 years ago and he's still the only one in his preschool (maybe that's because we're a bit backward this far north of the capital!) Freya is a beautiful name (happens to be my Oscar's best mate's name!) and Isaac lovely too... I think they're classics which won't date, unlike some "popular" names at the moment (especially those linked to one specific celebrity imho), so as long as it sounds good for a little one and a grown man, I say go for it.

monkeymargot - Cecily PLum! Gorgeous How about Engelbert and Humperdinck for the twins?

Woofie · 23/02/2010 22:46

sorry, am on a names bender this evening... latrucha- would you consider Rafaele? Think Rafi in Spanish is lovely.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/02/2010 23:19

Lovely evening thank you ladies.
I can confirm that justbeme, greensnail and georgee are real people and not hairy handed truckers .

OP posts:
greensnail · 24/02/2010 09:46

Either that, or the disguises are very good . I had a lovely evening, but still disapointed that I couldn't finish my spaghetti. Struggled with my toast this morning too, I think the pregnancy tummy squeeze has really kicked in

We've not named this bump yet, but DD was The Buddha due to her massive abdo circumference on the 20 week scan - it looked like I was carrying a little pregnant baby, and she still does look pregnant at times!

LaTrucha · 24/02/2010 10:21

Woofie - I like Rafael. DH won't have it. He says I pronounce it wrongly and he NEVER says that about my Spanish! Excuse, methinks.

Oscar and Isaac are both lovely but can't use Oscar as it is my bf boy's name or Isaac as, while DH is not Jewish, one of his surnames is and to call the boy Isaac would make everyong think he is Jewish when he won't be (by birth, anyway. He may convert!)

I think I've got a little athlete in here! DD had too much fluid, so while I felt her it was never anything like this! I take it as a good sign that fluid levels may be normal this time. Either that or he is a giant or a maniac.

GibberingGinger · 24/02/2010 10:49

Haven't really chosen any names for my two yet. They don't even have nicknames for the bump, we just refer to them as the babies, or the parasites!

Haven't bought anything yet either . Am beginning to get stressed out by all the decision making that still needs to be done (names, buggies, car) and all the organisation that needs to be done such as emalgamate the spare room and study into one room so we can create a bedroom for the babies. Did vacuum pack my wedding dress the other night though, which cleared a huge space in the spare room wardrobe. Highly reccommend vacuum bags, the dress is a fraction of its previous size!

Am also feeling a bit narked about people saying "ooh you've got twins, you must be getting loads of scans and appointments". At the moment I've actually had less appointments than I did with my last (single) pregnancy! So far had 12 week scan and booking in appointment, nuchal fold scan, and 20 week scan and checkup appointment (which lead to the cardiology monitor - which I've not heard any results of). They were then going to leave me til 28 weeks, but I've asked them for another check at 24wks, just for blood pressure and urine etc. 8 weeks just seems a long time. Sorry to moan. I should be grateful that everything is running smoothly and I don't need extra appointments. Must get a grip and get over myself.

Hope everyone is doing well, almost into the 3rd trimester. Yippee

gizmo · 24/02/2010 11:00

Hi GG, you're not alone in the organisational panic. I have a superstitious rule that I don't buy anything for the baby until week 24 (although window shopping is permitted ) but I've suddenly become quite anxious about making sure everything is ready.

Which is madness really, because I never felt this urge with DS1 and DS2: we didn't buy a cot for DS1 until he was 11 weeks old, and DS2 slept in a crib on the landing until about wk 14!

However, we now have a house full of baby/child crap and if we are to squeeze another one in we will need to get organised. Freecycle. New shelving & storage. Furniture that has enough space and doesn't fall apart.

It can't take more than a few weeks though, can it? Can it?

chestnut100 · 24/02/2010 11:01

hi all

Soo jelous of your lovely evening out ladies; we need a Lodon meet soon!

I am also feeling a bit abandonded GibberingGinger; nothing at all between the 16 week appointment (other than scan) and the 28 week one seems an awful long time!

LaTrucha you have just made me stress again on hearing about your mega active baby! I still barely feel anything; a little twitch a couple of times a day if I am lucky! Anyone in the same boat?!

I have spoken to m/w and doc about it; no one seems concerned; apparently 24 weeks is still early to feel a lot of movement, particularly with my anterior placenta, but I still don't like it!

MonkeyMargot · 24/02/2010 11:01

Loving Rafael Woofie and LaTrucha.

Isaac is a good name - providing your surname isn't hunter
I like Jasper but my MIL has a parrot with same name (Jasper Parrot - geddit?) and my sister has a horse named Jasper. In fact my sister's horses have some really good names - Hero (I love it - DH hates it) and Minnie are 2 others.
We have pretty much decided on names if it is 2 boys, but very undecided if it's girls or a mix.
What is everyone's thoughts on using a name with the same initial that a previous child has? I really wanted to avoid any duplication of initials, but I adore a girls name which happens to start with C as does DD's name. DH says, "that's what middle names are for!". I am not sure....will it cause utter confusion?

Gibbering take the lack of appts as a good sign that all is normal. Sometimes I get stressed thinking of all the things we need to do, move house, buy new car etc etc. And then other days I let it all wash over me...what will be will be etc. Try not to worry.

gizmo · 24/02/2010 11:11

Margot I wouldn't hesitate over two names beginning with the same initial (I'm contemplating having two 'A's in my family, although one will be female and one male) as long as they don't sound two similar otherwise. I have a friend with an Annabel and Isobelle which I think is much more confusing.

GibberingGinger · 24/02/2010 11:13

chestnut try not to worry about the lack of movement, I can feel one baby move lots (the left one) but the other baby (right) I hardly get anythng from. I think this is bacause I have a placenta on the front right and this muffles a lot of the thuds. I also rememeber my sister being really anxious bout her 2nd pregnancy as she got very little movement but it just turned out he was a very laid back baby. He was really laid back when he was born too, just ate slept or gurgled contentedly. he turned into monster child at 6 months with food - but the first 6 months were a breeze for her!

MM Names wise I have the same initial as my brother and its never caused a problem, like your hubby says thats what middle initials are for and date of births. Though I'm not keen on twins having that same initial (just personal preferance)

MonkeyMargot · 24/02/2010 11:20

Thank gizmo and gibbering. I too want to avoid the twins having same initial. Almost like you're forcing them to be a 2-some.

chestnut I like gibbering feel one twin but not the other. My sister barely felt anything and ended up with a v.chilled out baby, much like Gibberings sis. My DD was v.active in the womb, and continues to be outside!

Chestnut are you volunteering to organise a London meetup??

MonkeyMargot · 24/02/2010 11:22

gizmo i see your point on Annabel and Isobelle.....hmm. My friend is called Nicole and her sister is Victoria. They are knows as Nicky and Vicky ...

NizzyNoodles · 24/02/2010 12:29

Woah - I can't keep up with all the posts so sorry if I've missed anything important!

Our bump name is Tevez - we're Man City supporters and this little one seems to like giving me a good kicking every now and then. I seem to be feeling more kicks in this pregnancy than the previous 2 but I've put that down to the fact I know what to feel for 3rd time round.

We're pretty settled on a name as it's the one we would have used if either of the DDs had been boys. I've tried lots of other suggestions but we do keep coming back to it so I think it's kind of stuck. We've got a backup in case the name doesn't suit at the time though.

Glad it was a nice night out for the Herts ladies last night - maybe I'll get along to the next meetup if you have one?

Swapped days at work so have a child free day to get all the jobs done. I'm planning an afternoon of sorting out the girls' clothes as I never seem to be able to find anything at the moment and when I do it's always too small or too big!

Latest medical news is that I may have an underactive thyroid which I've suspected previously but they are doing more blood tests to try and work it out. Oh well - will worry about it when/if it's confirmed. I had to move my GTT test back a week so will be 1 day short of 26 weeks which they seemed to think might be a problem - CSWS does this sound likely from your experience?

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/02/2010 12:30

Ah, I'm anti names beginning with same initial. Though it would prob make our boys choice if we weren't, as we nearly called ds Dominic, and still like it.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 24/02/2010 12:34

A problem in what sense Nizzy? Most people aren't tested at all until 28 weeks, so it's still good. Though if you do have GD then the earlier it's picked up the better. If you have GD then a thyroid test is standard procedure, as I think they are often linked. You thyroid might only play up in pregnancy though, and be fine otherwise.

OP posts:
NizzyNoodles · 24/02/2010 12:52

CSWS I don't know what the problem is but the bloke booking the appointment was very concerned that I might be 26 weeks... Interesting that GD and the thyroid could be linked though as the GP didn't mention that. (I had the thyroid test done as I was feeling cold and we have a family history. It was borderline at 8 weeks but is now low at 23 weeks). I'll just have to be patient and do all the tests and see what the outcome is. Patience is not my strong point....

georgee · 24/02/2010 13:40

Hi all

Yes we did have a lovely evening with some yummy food - hope your blood sugar was OK this morning CSWS! (We can also confirm that CSWS is not a hairy trucker by the way ...)

Nizzy we have talked about meeting again so watch this space ... suggest the others set a time and place that's good for them and I'll fit in if I'm around, as my days down South are now fairly numbered ...

Hope everyone has a good day . I'm having a great day so far having taken delivery of a second-hand bugaboo from a very generous friend. It is now parked in the office and is attracting admiring glances from everyone who knows about these things (ie pregnant ladies and mothers).

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/02/2010 13:43

Oh that's a fab gift georgee! Have you tried folding it yet ?
The less said about my blood sugar the better really .

OP posts:
goodname · 24/02/2010 14:53

I have bought too much stuff already which, when combined with stuff I have been given or promised, I am not sure if I will fit in the house by the time the baby comes. Already have two car seats for some reason (always useful to have a spare I guess). Also still cant stop buying boys clothes on ebay (seem to get a parcel everyday). I really hope they didn't get the scan wrong. Still have loads too do on my mega "to do" list though. Its easier to buy things than to clean out cupboards etc.

Wee fergus has been kicking me like crazy for ages now but had a strangely quiet spell for a few days ending this morning at 6 when he kicked me solidly for about 2 hours really hard. Was a bit worried for a bit there.

Gibbering I seem to have had loads of appointments from Ninewells but maybe just because its my first. I had a 24 week one anyway and have another at 28. They dont do much though, mostly its just waiting around for ages for a 5 minute appointment so you're lucky if you dont have to go too often.

By the way, lots of friends seem to feel its their duty to tell me all about labour just now and from what I can gather almost everyone has bad experiences with the first birth. Did any of you have a good first birth or is it impossible?

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/02/2010 15:19

My first birth was just fine goodname . 12 hours from first feeling 'something' to having a baby in my arms, just gas and air and TENS as pain relief, only a very minor tear which just had 3 stitches (which incidentally I chose not to have for a similar tear second time, and would recommend the no stitch option if you are in a position to need to decide). I have many friends whose first births have been fine too.

OP posts:
LaTrucha · 24/02/2010 15:26

I know lots of people with good first births

Chestnut - not unusual at all. My SIL didn't feel anything at all at this stage.
