Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
perkster · 17/02/2010 15:11

Um, hello. New to the forum and this thread. I am due June 7th with our first.

Have midwife appt tomorrow and are currently doing fine. I consider myself incredibly lucky so far.

One thing I have been trying to find out about is the sleeping on your back thing. I know it's not best for baby and the left hand side is ideal but I keep waking up on my back in the night (having never liked sleeping that way before) and wanted to know if it's just 'advisable' not to sleep on your back or if there are any real implications?

georgee · 17/02/2010 15:34

Welcome perkster! . I'm always waking up on my back (on front having been my first choice (obviously impossible these days), on back second choice and on sides last and final choice) - I don't think you can help it actually and I'm sure women have been doing for centuries. I think when we get bigger our backs might hurt a bit more when we lie on them and cause us to turn over? Alternatively sometimes I jam a pillow both sides of me so I roll onto one or the other so I'm not flat on my back but that's a right hassle and I've stopped doing it lately. However, it's my first too and we have a wealth of motherly experience on this thread so everyone else should chip in!

Gizmo - I'm so sorry you have this to worry about now. You truly have been in a state of uncertainty in the past few weeks, no wonder that calm is wearing off a bit. There's a good chance that it will be a silent thing - but I know me saying that won't stop the worry. Thinking of you.

minimoon - I'm in the City too today! It is beautiful weather isn't it. I didn't get out at lunchtime - wish I had. We might have bumped into each other!

playftseforme · 17/02/2010 17:29

I've C&P'd the list - hopefully I've done it properly. Scan went well although have to go back for a repeat because they couldn't see the spinal covering of one twin.

I hope all those with outstanding test results to wait for have good news v soon (sorry - having real trouble keeping up...)

goodname · 17/02/2010 18:45

Gizmo, really sorry to hear your news and hopw you can keep being as positive as you have been, read the link and it seems like you have a great chance of there being no symptoms.
Meggy really really sorry to hear about your friend. I had stage 4 cancer 6 years ago and recovered and am now having a baby so it is possible to get better. Its really important for your friend to stay as positive as possible as that seems to make a huge difference so you staying positive should help everyone. I did huge amounts of research on alternative treatments (in conjunction with normal treatment) so if I can be of any help let me know. Hope she gets some good news when she finds out more.

I also cannot stop eating although feeling quite sick just now as husband has just finished eating stinky fish pie and I cant stand the smell of fish just now. I cant stop eating Malteasers actually, bulk buying them at the moment. Also dreaming of meat although I am veggie, thinking about eating some but so far just keeping protein levels up with eggs and quorn. Noticing I am getting fatter in places other than the bump now, was hoping swimming would keep that to a minimum but there we go.

imkeepingmum · 17/02/2010 19:52

Welcome perkster. I was told at recent ante natal physio session not to lie on back too much as it compresses one of the major blood vessels so might might you feel faint/light headed or dizzy. The physio advised avoiding lying on backs where possible and to support yourself in bed with pillows - she suggested to one of the ladies who raised the question of lying on her back to put a small cushion or rolled up towel in the small of her back so she wasn't laid down flat.

MrsDmamee · 17/02/2010 20:37

Hi all, havent been on much in past week as my poor ds has been very ill.

Gizmo i hope your ok and trying to stay positive.
but i know thats hard too.
ive spent a lot of this pg fearing the worst when i was bleeding on and off for 5 weeks.
chestnut get well soon.
ive been watching my DS suffer with the same thing and everyone around me was saying oh watch you dont get it. thankfully i didnt but i would have done anything to stop my poor 3 year suffering.

oh malteasers goodname thats the only choc im able to stomach and i would happily eat a pack a day

MrsDmamee · 17/02/2010 20:38

3 year old

marmiteaddict · 17/02/2010 21:24

Meggy, I sympathise. A good friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer in her spine last summer; she was 34. It just feels all wrong when someone is that age. I felt bad about telling her when I found out I was pregnant but decied that if I was in her shoes I would want to hear everyone elses good news. I hope your friend gets some positive news soon.

Well Ive just had three days off work and Id love to say that Ive been relaxing and enjoying myself but Ive actually been decorating our front room. We've been doing major building work in there and havent been able to use it since last October. Our new sofa arrives in just over 2 weeks and I cannot wait! Ive been dreaming about comfortable sofas for months now and as soon as it arrives I plan to never leave it's soft, cushioned arms again . In the meantime though we still have to finish decorating, tile the hearth, fit the woodburning stove, fit the carpet etc... so not much really

LittleRobbo · 18/02/2010 07:38

Morning everyone. Gizmo hope you are feeling positive today, and good luck for your appointment tomorrow i'm sure they will help to put your mind at ease.

Welcome Perkster

MrsDmamee Hope your DS is feeling much better now.

Goodname maltesers,mmmmmmmmm

mampam · 18/02/2010 13:27

Chestnut and gizmo you've certainly been through the mill lately. Glad you are (hopefully) on the mend Chestnut and I hope all goes well with your appointment gizmo and they can put your mind at rest and give you some firm answers.

CSWS did you get any luck finding out the information re PAYE stuff. Did the link for the tax/pay calculator website help at all?

Got a midwife and a Physio appointment tomorrow. DC's are coming with me to see the MW so they can hear the heartbeat.

Think I'm having some acupunture when I see the Physio. It had better bloody help because I am actually at the end of my tether now. I'm virtually housebound (poor DC's this half term) and I'm in agony. I cannot sleep because I am so uncomfortable and I'm super P*SSED off with my non existant friends. I don't see or hear from most of them and it's been months since I've seen most of them too. DH has told me to think "stuff them" and try my hardest to make new friends once the baby is born. Good idea I suppose but it still hurts and doesn't stop me feeling totally unloved and deserted in my time of need.

As for lying on my back, I do it all the time as it's one of the only positions that doesn't hurt. I am however propped up by quite a few pillows.

Hope everyone is ok .

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/02/2010 13:34

Yes it was helpful thank you mampam, although in quite a scary way! It seems that to offer her a net of £350 a week will actually cost us closer to £550 a week , which is more than I had estimated. Bloody taxes! Am hoping that she might agree to go self employed for this bit, so that we can know exactly what it will cost us, and I know that her self employed accounts won't be hard to do, although obv it depends on whether she is willing to take on the extra burden of that. I think I'll invite her round for coffee after school one night to discuss it.

meggymegmegs · 18/02/2010 15:24

Thanks for all your wonderful support over the past few days ladies, you don't know how much it means to me. Unfortunately since my last post things have gone from bad to worse with my beautiful friend and she is failing fast and has been given just days. Have taken a few days of work and am spending lots of time with her and her family at the wonderful St Mary's Hospital in Manchester (the facilities and staff there are amazing).

On a positive note, I had my 25 weeks mw appointment this morning and am measuring perfectly for my gestation and hearing the baby's heartbeat was beautiful.

Thanks again ladies x

mampam · 18/02/2010 15:52

Oh Meggymegmegs is there really nothing they can do? Life is so unfair at times. It sounds like you are being a wonderful friend. It must be doubly hard for you being pregnant too, hormones all over the place. If the worst does happen, believe me, your baby will be a great source of comfort to not only you but to your friend's family too.

CSWS I hate to throw a spanner in the works but aren't there rules about being self employed and working for the same people only? Worth looking into. The directgov website would be a good place to find information.

greensnail · 18/02/2010 15:57

Thinking of you, your friend and her family meggymegmegs. Glad she is getting all the care and attention she deserves. Hope you and her family are being well looked after too. Wonderful that you've had confirmation that all is well with your pregnancy. Will be thinking of you all x

greensnail · 18/02/2010 16:00

mampam and CSWS, I don't think its a problem being self employed but only working for one person. My DH has been doing work on a self-employed basis for one company for several years and its never been a problem.

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/02/2010 16:11

meggy.

It's no problem mampam. The rules are much more complicated than that, and I know that it's not a problem for us (dh and I both self employed for years). But thanks for your concern .

OP posts:
bobolana · 18/02/2010 18:44

meggymegmegs, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Lots of good wishes and support, hope all goes well and be positive - she needs you there to bring her courage. I will be thinking about you.

gizmo - good luck tomorrow; it's all going to be ok, they just want to make sure that is 100% noting. Keep us updated.

perster - welcome. I do have problems sometimes sleeping on my back, but always have DH close on my right snoring, just to make sure that I am sleeping on my left .

goodname - chocolate, that is what I am talking about. I was such a good girl the first 5 months, so now it is time to indulge and get BIG . I can't stop thonking about chocolate cheese cake - the one from Gu, mmmmmmm

LaTrucha · 18/02/2010 19:17

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend Meggymegmegs - what a shock to you all. BEst wishes over this difficult time.

Can you do me a favour, ladies? If you see a video monitor on offer on your shopping travels, could you let me know? DH and I fancy one for the new LO but they are so expensive!

LittleRobbo · 18/02/2010 19:22

Oh no meggymegs that is just awful. My SIL lost her fight against cancer on xmas day a few years ago leaving 2 small DDs behind and my mom also passed away after suffering from it 2 years ago 2 weeks before our wedding day,so i fully know how you must be feeling,no words can help but as i said before try and stay strong, and get plenty of rest if you can to help you cope. I will be thinking of you,and your friend as i'm sure we all will.

I had 24 week midwife check up today and everything is fine i'm pleased to report it was lovely,as always,to hear her little heart beating away

theperfectbaguette · 18/02/2010 19:57

Haven't posted for ages as I was on holiday for a month and have just got back. Had my scan yesterday and we're having................ a girl. Sooooo excited.

meggymegs really sorry about your friend
perkster welcome. I still sleep on my back a bit, but figure it's a matter of days before it gets too uncomfortable. The only time I've ever fainted when pregnant was when I was a in last trimester with my DS - went to hospital with a different problem, and they put a monitor on the baby and made me lie on my back - I felt really weird and next thing I knew, I came to and found a lot of people round the bed, and DH looking tearful in the background, so I want to avoid that happening again.

MrsAlwaysRight · 18/02/2010 20:13

Gizmo best of luck for your appointment tomorrow. About time you got some positive news.

Mampam hope your physio appointment helps.

Meggymegmegs such sad news about your friend. Sounds like you are being a fantastic friend and giving her great support.

theperfectbaguette Congrats on joining team pink!
