Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

at midwife chestnut what a miserable cow! I too would have been upset by that.

congratulations gibberingginger lovely news

meggymegs hilarious Brian May bush comment,DH actually looked at me like i was crazy i was laughing so much

Would love to join in on the ex-rant but if i start i may not stop, suffice to it is very difficult sometimes, especially as DS1 thinks the sun shines out of his fathers arse

Congratulations millymollymoo i bet you are thrilled to bits

Filly so glad the party went well, any cake left? heehee.

minimoonumbertwo · 02/02/2010 20:50

chestnut - nightmare - is there anyone you can complain to? i am sick of being brushed off by dr's for myself & ds, the only reassurance you get is from yourself half the time. Last time i went to doc & wasn't happy i wrote them a letter, no idea if it did any good but made me feel sooooo much better!!!

Hooray for all these boyos, so lovely having boy twins, my dh is a twin and I am constantly jealous of their brilliant relationship.

greensnail · 02/02/2010 20:52

At least you know not to bother seeing that GP again chestnut - stick with the nice ones! Glad you heard the heartbeat anyway, always better to get checked out if you're worried I think

chestnut100 · 02/02/2010 21:04

thanks ladies, you have all made me feel better. I just think I pay my taxes; i am entitled to see the GP when I want to! I was particularly surprised that a woman GP would be so insensitive. Anyway, i achieved the main objective, which was to hear baby's heartbeat, and put my mind at ease. Plus I know know NEVER to see anyone except my regular GP, who is a very lovely chap!

I am consoling myself in a deep basket of ironing!

LittleRobbo · 02/02/2010 21:21

Sorry chestnut i meant GP not midwife, bloody pg brain!

MrsDmamee · 02/02/2010 21:40

chestnut100 oh my god what kind of doctor is she at all

NizzyNoodles · 02/02/2010 21:43

Just dropping in to say hi - can't keep up with everything but it looks like we'll have lots of blue bundles of joy come June-time!

I've used sleeping bags with both of my girls - usually around the 6 week mark I think - they're great for keeping out draughts and they don't get cold in them at all. Also, the travel ones are handy if you're out and about as they can wear them in the car seat and you can lift them straight into bed without waking them up.

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/02/2010 21:50

Oh how I laugh at the comment 'you can lift them straight into bed without waking them up'. Oh ho ho ho ho ho.
My dc will not be moved whilst asleep at all. Well, we did occasionally with dd once she was over age 2, but we were never able to transfer her from one place to another before that. My moniker really isn't made up from nowhere!
But I still like the travel grobags as I live in hope .

Oh ladies you have to read this news article. But if you have a weak pelvic floor then please go to the toilet first, else you might piss yourself laughing.

Bizarre!!!!

gaelicsheep · 02/02/2010 23:26

Hi everyone. I had my scan today - I was terrified, and absolutely convinced that I couldn't be lucky enough to have everything OK a second time. Anyhow, as far as they can tell everything is fine and the view of the baby was sooo much clearer than with DS. I had tears streaming down my face when she showed us baby's face and when I could see... it's little hands moving around. I now know what sex it is but I'm not telling - sorry! List updated below.

Chestnut - if it helps, the baby was moving around loads during the scan and a lot of it I couldn't feel at all. I reckon we only feel the big welly kicks at this stage. Glad you heard the heartbeat though and at your GP for you.

mampam · 03/02/2010 04:13

CSWS I'm loving Quiche-gate at Tesco, rather convenient though that they couldn't find the cashier. DH was refused alcohol at Sainsbury's a few weeks ago. He had a full weeks shop and had picked up half a bottle of wine to go in a casserole.

LittleRobbo I agree, DC's too think the sun shines out of their fathers arse. But who am I to knock saint daddy off his pedestal.......he'll do that all by himself as the DC's get older and wiser!!

Still need more convincing re: sleeping bags.

Does anyone have any suggestions of different things to eat/recipes? DH and I are getting fed up as we seem to be eating the same things week in week out.
My mum bought me a pregnancy cook book for Christmas and I made a creamy vegetable curry from it last weekend which was absolutely delicious .

gaelicsheep · 03/02/2010 10:01

Oh Mampam - baby sleeping bags are terrific. Others have probaby said this (can't remember sorry) but the best thing is they can't kick the covers off, plus you don't have to worry about where you put them in their cot or where they wriggle to. They can have a much lower tog rating because they trap the baby's body heat and keep them toasty. With DS the house we were renting was freezing - and I mean freezing - and his Grobag always kept him lovely and warm. I love them!

LaTrucha · 03/02/2010 10:31

DD still wears her at two. She spends the night roaming all over her bed so I've no idea how she would keep a blanket on. Love them.

IMO it's not worth forking out for genuine grobags. There's an ebay seller called Designer Dudes who bought DD's sleeping bags that go up to age three from, two for £26 plus free delivery. They are excellent, certainly as good as grobags. Or second hand ones off ebay (though bid on ones where the seller is selling two as this always seems to be much cheaper in the end).

LaTrucha · 03/02/2010 10:32

I think I am getting very anxious about my scan next week too, gaelicsheep. I keep dreaming about it. I can feel baby moving about quite merrily, but I seem to be much more worried than last time.

gaelicsheep · 03/02/2010 10:44

It's funny isn't it? I concluded in the end that I was mostly worried that I couldn't be lucky twice in a row. Also I think we're probably more aware of the things that can go wrong. There's nothing anyone can say to stop you being anxious. At the beginning of my scan I was just mentally preparing myself for her to say something's wrong - I was convinced it would happen. Hence the tears later on.

greensnail · 03/02/2010 11:13

at "quiche-gate". I have to admit I'm a little offended that I can't remember the last time someone asked me for ID. I obviously just look like an old woman since I had DD, or maybe its because i never buy quiche!

mampam what kind of thing do you like eating? We used to be a bit stuck in a food rut as well, but now I'm trying to make at least one new thing a week, and its working out really well. The internet is great for recipes, have a search and you'll come up with loads of ideas. There are some great simple recipes on the Food section of MN too. I love reading recipe books to give me some inspiration too, my favourite at the moment is Nigella's Feast. You could have a look and see what books your library has.

Congrats on the scan gaelicsheep you do realise we're all going to be watching out for you slipping up and refering to the baby as He or She now though, don't you?

georgee · 03/02/2010 12:32

Hello ladies - so exciting to hear the scan news, congratulations all!

Can't believe your GP chestnut - I went on Friday purely for 'unreasonable anxiety about my pregnancy' reasons and wasn't expecting a doppler but she brought it out without my asking. She also told me that to get this far (21 weeks for me too) is completely reassuring in itself and to remember that as a woman I was built to bear children, in fact I've been waiting my whole life for it (not sure how that works re: feminism but it made me feel better!) ... so to relax ... so I'm just passing on that advice from a good GP in case that helps you!

Herts ladies - we have a date - the evening of Tuesday 23 February - and a place - the Hatfield area! We have CantSleepWontSleep, greensnail and me so far. So if you're interested, speak up and I'll message you the full details! Really really sorry that it's on a Tuesday after all justbeme but we're going to have a second meeting later on, on a day that suits you better next time ... so watch this space!

Ooh, I've just seen the new emoticon - hope you won't mind being the first to use it but I have been a bit like this the last few days as CSWS and greensnail will testify (that's 'confused'!)

chestnut100 · 03/02/2010 12:36

georgee thanks for the reassurance. I do worry if I will make it to the end of this pregnancy with my sanity intact, as I am by nature a worrier and my bloody GP didn't help! So thanks for the positive thoughts.

gealicsheep sorry happy your scan went well

Can I just ask, does anyone else feel like you are walking round in a permanat fog? I know i feel far less productive at work; I can't get on top of my inbox and just don't have the motivation or concentration to work on any of my files.

I never imagined pregnancy would be like this!

meggymegmegs · 03/02/2010 13:05

Good afternoon everyone , more great scan news, congratulations!

chestnut Your GP is officially a bitch and yes I have the fog thing too. I'm usually proud of how good I am at my job and always right on the ball. Since pregnancy I am nowhere near as efficient and keep thinking 'I'll get round to it tomorrow' then just never seem to. I've never been like this and I'm getting worried that I won't get back to the old me even after mat leave. Must try harder! Glad it's not just me tho

Thanks for all the feedback on the sleeping bags. Found out last night that my sis has a couple stashed for me that she used with her ds, but he was born in Jan so I'll need to check the tog but at least they're free

Loving the quiche story csws. My friend once got asked for id when buying a cutlery set from argos because it 'contained knives' - get a grip Argos!

georgee · 03/02/2010 13:18

Hi chestnut - just one final thing on anxiety. In this pregnancy I have worried about (and these are just the ones I can remember):

Not feeling pregnant enough (first 12 weeks)
Scanning implement hurting baby's head (after 12 week scan)
Reheated chicken x 2 (15 weeks)
Slightly pink roast beef (16 weeks)
Lifting luggage (17 weeks)
Sneezing violently (18 weeks)
Whether bacon I put in a cheese and bacon pie was undercooked (19 weeks)
Microwaved curry (was it warmed through enough?)(20 weeks)
Lifting luggage again (this week)
Each course of an Italian meal out (last night)
Lunch because I left something with mayonnaise sitting on my desk for an hour (just now).

Well I sound completely bonkers now but just to say, you're not alone with the anxiety - I for one am exactly the same. People keep saying to me enjoy being pregnant, but I'll just be happy when the baby's out and healthy ... although that's when everyone tells me the real worries will start!

Sunworshipper · 03/02/2010 13:20

Welcome Virgo1979

Congratulations on having boys GibberingGinger - imagine all those lovely boyish cuddles with Mummy.

Chestnut what an awful parting shot from your GP. As if you don't know how precious this all is anyway - why did she think you were there unless you wanted reassurance.

I still haven't felt the baby move yet but I've had to take to my bed this week with rotten sinusitus after yet another cold so am hoping that once I'm up and about things will soon start to happen. Scan next week.

Yes, I feel as if I'm in a fog - keep forgetting things and I'm normally a complete control freak. I am being pleasantly surprised though to find that the sky has not yet fallen in because I've forgotten about a meeting or left all DH's clothes at home when we've gone away for the weekend!!

Am I mad to turn down a cot and car seat from my cousin? She made a very kind offer but I've just called her to say thanks but no thanks. Feel guilty re whole recycling thing but I've dreamed of being able to go shopping for my own baby for so long and choose the cot / nest / changing table / pram ourselves and so want to prepare a little nursery for him/her myself... Is it ok to be self-indulgent just this once?

Gaelicsheep so glad your scan went well and your fears were unfounded. I feel similarly to you about preparing myself for the worst.

GinaFB · 03/02/2010 13:56

Gibberingginger and gaelicsheep congrats on a good scans!

chestnut what a load of rubbish from your GP.... I'm sorry she was so insensitive, not on at all I would have been very upset too.

I have the fog too. I can usually remember everything but now I have to write everything down!! Hoping to be back in work next week as I am going crazy here!

I am not really sure if I am feeling kicks, there are lots of things going on in my tummy but I am not sure what is gas, stomach etc etc! I have had a couple of moments when the LHS of my tummy has gotten very hard and much bigger than the RHS, I assumed that LO was doing a somersault, has anyone else experienced this?

GibberingGinger · 03/02/2010 14:55

For those of you who are worried about not feeling much movement it might be because the placenta is at the front. It is in my case. I was getting pretty worried last week as I haven't felt much movement, especially as there are 2 in there and you'd think that would push them against the sides and I would feel more movement IYSWIM. However the scan yesterday showed that one placenta is on the front wall of the womb, and one on the back. These are acting as huge cushions and muffling any movement. It also makes it more difficult to find heartbeats too, as they are also more muffled. The consultant said that soon the babies would be bigger and the placenta wouldn't be absorbing the kicks so much and I would feel things a lot more - to the point where I would be cursing the kicks and hoping the babies would calm down!
Hope this reassures some of you a little.
