Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

mampam i've been thinking of ideal ways to entertain yourself while you are off,you could learn a language, you can learn for free if you get the tapes etc from the library and while you are there stock up on loads and loads of books to read. Also you could look online at polls of say 50 greatest films of all time and watch them all (that would take up a LOT of time)

IHope everyones had nice weekends, mine has been quite pleasant and drama free, which is just what i needed, all i want to do is eat and sleep at the moment, seriously loving the food

greensnail · 01/02/2010 15:39

Our mothercare is a bit pants too madamefreckle although i'm delighted as i've just got back from there with my new half price tankini. I managed to find the one in the sale that i'd hoped to get a while back when i first needed a maternity swimming costume, but it was out of stock then, so i'm really pleased. It was buy one get one half price on their sale stuff and i tried on the most comfy pair of trousers that i was going to get, but discovered they weren't supposed to be in the sale when i got to the till so had to get some much less comfy ones instead!

chestnut100 I don't think you need to worry. If you only felt movement for the 1st time last week, then its normal for it to still be a bit erratic.
No real baby shopping here yet as I'm struggling to think of anything i really need for the baby! Will be buying a new cot mattress closer to the time, and think i might get some summer weight sleeping bags, as all the 0-6 month ones I have are winter ones. Oh and I also want to get some of those nightgowns with elastic around the bottom to use instead of sleepsuits to save faffing around with poppers in the middle of the night. Anyone know somewhere that has them reasonably priced?

LaTrucha · 01/02/2010 15:55

Greensnail - they do have them in Greenbaby, but I think they're about £10ish. If DD stays asleep long enough, I'll go and have a look. Good point about sleeping bags. I've been thinking, 'I'm fine for those' but actually all our small ones are winter weight.

Mind you, DD was swaddled for 5 months (her choice!) so perhaps I'll wait and see.

I'm going to buy a few more frivolous things this time, if I can. I was dead practical last time. For example, for clothes I only bought 5 white vests, 5 white babygros and something for her to wear in the pram (DD born January). Neither did I buy her any toys for quite a while! I actually couldn't find fancy things that I liked at the time. I seem to know just where to go now!

LaTrucha · 01/02/2010 16:02

There's a lot on ebay, if you don't mind second hand.

There are three differnt ones on Greenbaby, but they don't have the lovely stripy ones we got for DD. The duck is cute, though....

mampam · 01/02/2010 16:24

Hmmmm the Library. I hadn't thought of that one LittleRobbo, thanks. I know there's a little mobile one that stops at the end of the road every other week. I'd probably need to go to the local town to get language tapes but that is a good idea, using my boredom time to do something constructive!! I wonder what else I can find at the library!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/02/2010 16:24

Just a warning re greenbaby to say that I find that their stuff (whilst lovely) comes up exceptionally small, so do order a little bigger than you think you'll need.

I am theoretically up for a Tues night meet up yes (tis a crap TV night anyway ), though I'm unlikely to be able to get out before the kids are in bed (around 7:30).

Agree with the others Chestnut that erratic movement absolutely not a problem yet.

Nizzy - you are still at the old place yes? Are you part time now?

DD was a titch!

dinosaurinmybelly · 01/02/2010 18:06

Hello - huge sigh of relief from me after very hectic weekend. Birthday party went very well from my perspective, but DH got very very stressed, after being the super calm one right up until the hour before. My philosophy is to prepare prepare prepare, and then relax, so my coolness during the even just wound him up even more.

I made 2 very simple rectangular cakes in the end, and just iced them with some sprinkles. They were actually a big hit! One was chocolate, and one was lemon at DS's request, and the lemon one got lots of compliments. I'm very pleased with the outcome, but am excited now about perhaps baking cakes that are actually healthy too - many thanks for the tip on the book.

Re: tankinis, I bought a couple at primark which weren't especially maternity, but I just bought the top one size up from usual, and I'm still using them now in my 3rd pregnancy.

I had a tour of the birth centre on Friday which was just lovely. It is the only birth centre in New York - everything else is pretty high-tech and this is more in line with my UK experience at St. Thomas in London, so I feel very lucky to have found it. It is interesting with all this talk of health care reform in the US. I had to pay for the the orientation, which I didn't actually mind because it wasn't just a tour, but I was presented with a red folder of the various regulations etc and the cost of the various treatments or interventions, as well as the post-natal stay options. Thank goodness this is my 3rd baby, as I think I'd have found it quite daunting as a first-timer.

georgee · 01/02/2010 19:19

Just a quick one for CSWS and the other lovely Herts ladies!

If Tuesdays are OK with everyone I can do any of the following:

16 Feb
23 Feb
2 March
9 March
30 March
13 April ... I obviously have no social life ...

8pm seems like a good time?

Just to say I don't have a car down South but may be able to borrow one if we can't do anything in the environs of St Albans/Hatfield.

If you girls would like to discuss this 'away from the board' so to speak I've now set up my membership account to receive messages!

Over and out

Gx

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/02/2010 19:54

My CAT subscription has expired georgee, so can you email me on cantsleepwontsleep at gmail dot com instead please?

Not sure if dh will have to start going abroad again early March, so might be best to arrange for 23rd Feb or 2nd March if you want me there . Are we looking at dinner or just drinks, or something revolutionary like bowling (biggest bump gets to roll themselves down the alley)?! Am happy with anything as long as I am more or less guaranteed parking within 3 mins walk . I don't know St Albans so well, but if you can get to Hatfield too then how about somewhere at the Galleria?

greensnail · 01/02/2010 19:54

Thanks LaTrucha that duck one is very cute. I'll see if i can pick some nice ones up a bit cheaper on ebay though.

mampam you might find you can order things from the main library to collect from your mobile library if getting to the one in town is difficult. Bet you can find loads of things to keep you occupied at the library - good idea LittleRobbo!

Thanks for the warning on greenbaby's sizing CSWS, I was just considering some pyjamas for DD from there, and as she's on the chunky side anyway and in cloth nappies i'll definitely need to bear the sizing in mind!

Glad you've found a good birth centre dinasaur, sounds like you have a lot to think about in your red folder!

georgee tuesdays are perfect for me. Will send you a message!

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/02/2010 19:56

Glad to hear that the party and cakes went down well dimb.

I managed to get my party bag contents sorted this weekend from a selection of Asda stuff (thanks Nizzy!) and some curly straws from ToysRUs. Just waiting for some funky pink mailing bags to arrive now, as I can't get actual party bags big enough to house the bargain colouring books that I chose!

Phew, am exhausted after a busy few hours at Ikea in Edmonton!!
Got a nice playmat, for the toy room (with roads etc on) for £9.99 - its very large too.
Another Duvet and pillow for DD2 - in case she has an accident in the night that isn't just on the sheet!! (cost about £6) , Oh and a little table for £4.99, which will be a great play table and other odds and sods. It came to over £114! We went for curtains and stuff for our new kitchen, but I only ended up with a chopping board!!

I would love a Herts meet up - but I work Tuesday and Thursday Evenings . But if that is the best day for everyone - then please carry on as I know how hard it is to organise things.

I forget who kindly asked about my rib pain? I think it's from the babies head pushing up, as my fibroid is about the size of a tennis ball, so the baby is sitting quite high up.
It feels like a burning sensation, I've found the best way to alleviate it, is to lie down - good excuse heh??!!

mampam · 02/02/2010 09:23

Good morning all, hope everyone is well. Had another semi-good nights sleep last night. .

Need to have a little rant to get something out of my system (feel free to ignore). DD has just mentioned that at the weekend she went dress shopping with her SM. When I asked why SM needed a dress she said it was because her father (DD's) was taking SM to a hotel for dinner the night before valentines night. The said hotel is the most expensive/exclusive in this area. What annoys me is that I get a pittance in maintenance from him each week and struggle to pay for uniforms, shoes, school trips etc for DC's and he's gonna spend a lot more in one night than he gives DC's in one month!!.

Ok rant over.

Whoever suggested I play Scrabble on FB, please can you tell me how I get onto it/find it?

justbeme at you having to lie down!! Will the fibroid get any bigger? How will a growing baby affect it? Sorry, just being nosy curious.

playftseforme · 02/02/2010 10:04

mampam you have every right to be - it's totally unfair. My friend's exh will scrimp over everything he gives her (in the maintenance agreement too) which all goes straight to the two dcs for uniforms and trips as you say, but thinks nothing of blowing wads of cash on his new family. Seems hard to credit but clearly there are a lot of people who have easy consciences over this kind of behaviour.

greensnail glad to hear you plumped for a second swimsuit, we need all the treats we can get right now. My tankini arrived in the post at work this morning and is looking like it might fit. Although the waxing issue might become a problem, which I hadn't given much thought to when I opted for a pants style rather than shorts

greensnail · 02/02/2010 10:11

playftse don't worry you're probably not such a hairy monster as i am. My body hair seems to go completely mental during pregnancy!

mampam if you type scrabble into the search box on FB, the application comes up. Think you just have to click on it to use the application (haven't used it myself, but let me know if you've got no one to play with and i'll give it a go too).

mampam · 02/02/2010 10:21

playftseforme I was just letting off some steam. I'm used to his selfish behaviour now. It's just frustrating at times. When I was a lone parent I asked him for £2.50 towards some material to make DS a costume for his nativity play....he said he couldn't afford it. You would have thought that I would have learnt my lesson and not bother again but I have, once. At the beginning of last year DH's hours were halved at work. It was quite a shock to us financially and we still haven't recovered. DD wanted to join a drama group so I asked ex to pay for half of it. Yes he was happy to do this blah blah blah. But did the money ever materialise?......NO. Weeks and weeks went by and one weekend DC's returned home with new coats on. It was spring nearly summer and they didn't need new coats (he has never bought anything for them before so this was a first). This apparently was instead of giving me the money for DD's drama group!! My mum and dad ended up giving me his half of the money for the drama group and now they have taken over paying for it!

Can you get your bikini line waxed? I know I can't really see what's down there anymore unless I squash bump down a little bit! I certainly wouldn't want/trust DH to give it a trim either!

mampam · 02/02/2010 10:28

Thanks greensnail have found it.

MrsDmamee · 02/02/2010 11:13

morning all, had an extremely busy day yesterday hardly had any online time at all.
Was out shopping for a big boy bed with my DS2 and DH, or more like hobbling behind while they shopped.
DS is determind to have a bed with a ladder and wont even look at a normal bed.
One good thing about bed shopping though is i can sit down in every store on a nice comfy bed

mampam what is it with some ex's.
It has taken me nearly 11 years to get little over 30 pound a week for my DS1 but thats only on the condition it went straight into a bank account that was my DS1 future (over 18) and not to pay for his actual life
and thats all my DS1 is ever going to get, nothing towards his schooling or hobbies or day to day expenses of a teenager.

Ex now lives in a differant country and never bothered to tell(or give contact details to) his DS when he left nearly 4 years ago but im still the bitch for daring to ask for maintenence of any sort according to ex and his family.

Anyways i'll stop now before i get myself annoyed, my DH is lovely and we will be celebrating 10 years together soon but it only feels like 5 years. So this new baby is like a anniversary baby to us

virgo1979 · 02/02/2010 11:22

hello all, can i join this thread pretty please? bit late i know, am 20+4 weeks, and actually feeling excited now (its my first) when i havent got a headache/migraine thing going on! hello to you all, had a quick read thru some of the posts but so many names to take in! am due on the 18th (might change again though as have my scan this friday). how do i add my name and date to the list at start of the thread? have a good day y'all!

minimoonumbertwo · 02/02/2010 11:25

ooooh no no waxing in pregnancy!! It hurts about twice as much as it normally does!!

mampam · 02/02/2010 12:06

MrsD 10 years together, congratulations . Can't remember how many other DC's you've got. Is this your 2nd DC?

Ex gives me less than £40 a week for both DC's!! Not even £20 each. How he thinks I feed, cloth, pay for school stuff etc I will never know. It's annoying seeing as I know he's got a well paid job (so has his wife) and seems to live a life of luxury. All I can do is sit back and wait for DC's to suss all of this out for themselves. I'm sure it won't take them long to realise all the things that their little sister gets that they don't and wonder why!!

Been playing Scrabble in FB. I am complete and utter pants!! Think this will be the first and last time!!

mampam · 02/02/2010 12:13

minimoo I've never had my bikini line waxed (tame it in other ways!) but friends of mine do and even when PG!! One friend had it done right before she was due because she didn't want MW etc looking at her untamed bush! I thought she was bonkers.

Welcome Virgo. You need to copy and paste the list into a new message and add your details in. This however was too complicated for me so one of the other clued up/helpful ladies did it for me!!

meggymegmegs · 02/02/2010 12:33

Good afternoon everyone!

Hi and welcome virgo1979, good luck with your scan on Friday.

minimoo you have scared me now, I was planning on having a brazilian next week (I used to have a Hollywood pre-pg) to sort out my muff which always used to be so well-groomed but now resembles Brian May on a bad day . Should I avoid at all costs? I don't know if I can carry on with this momumental hair-growth, it's grossing me out. My big sister is a MW and was having a look at my bump the other day and even she commented on my hairiness - thanks sis!

I am at how little exs are getting away with giving your DCs. Without getting political, there is surely more that should be being done here to even up parental responsibility. Disgusting.

So, please can someone fill me in on sleeping bags? [naive first time mum emoticon] Do you need some of these in addition to normal bedding? When do you tend to use them? I sense a buying opportunity, my fingers are itching to go looking online right now!

MrsDmamee · 02/02/2010 12:40

#3 is on the way mampam my second DC with DH. He loves being Daddy or 'mammy # 2' as i call him sometimes

i do think that my ex has completely removed himself from the reality of the cost of raising a child/now teeneager, and that was made easier by him actually not seeing him from one end of the year to the next
And he seemed to believe that any money he handed over was spent by me on non child expenses which i have to say is pretty impossible as i would use my last penny to buy something for any of my kids.

I had to buy my ds1 new trainers last week the 3rd pair since last summer and they cost me 40 pounds in a sale so i would love to send my ex this receipt to prove that his 30 pound doesnt even clothed his child never mind feed and school him
