Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

csws have ordered the fabulous looking cake book and am now harbouring dreams of being the perfect mother with q wonderful smelling, yet healthy cake baking every time someone comes to visit.

btw please excuse any errors in this post, I am currently typing in bed, in the dark on my iPhone with no lenses in and can't see a thing but can't move as dh is happily snoring next to me and i've promised hima lie in! I imagine the positions/circumstances that I will post in will only get odder once dc comes along so might as well get used to it!

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2010 08:17

Oh you must tell us all about which cakes you make from it meggy. May I start by recommending the coconut cake with coconut icing?

Thanks Nizzy - I have to pop to S'Age today to get a Snow White dress for dd's birthday, so will pop into the big Asda there for a nose.
Shall I come and cheer you on in your amdram production?!

meggymegmegs · 30/01/2010 10:03

csws coconut cake it is then, it's my mum's bday this week so I'll give it a go as a treat. Thanks again

sunshineday · 30/01/2010 11:56

morning all hope everyone is ok. sorry I have not read all the posts you all have seem to have been very busy on here and at home with all the baking going on. I must confess my birthday cakes are all shop bought

I had my scan yesterday baby is doing well and is facing inwards (if that makes sense)which is why I suppose I cant feel much movement. placenta is still low so have to go
for another scan at 32 weeks. We could not find out what it is as the baby was facing the wrong way and legs were crossed I think. good luck to all those still waiting for your scans.

greensnail · 30/01/2010 16:44

Wow, you've all been busy the past few days while i've been caught up with RL. Have tried my best to catch up but have worked the last 2 nights and again tonight, so hope I don't miss anything vital in my sleep-deprived state.

mampam I would love to have a gardener/handy man for a DH. Sounds much more useful than mine! Sorry you're having such a hard time, I know in your situation I would be going absolutely crazy as I go mad if i'm stuck indoors for more than a day. Maybe we should all take a trip down to Devon too come and cheer you up - I know I'd love an excuse to go to Devon!

gibberingginger yes summer baby was definitely the plan here after our xmas eve baby last year! My mum assures me that night feeds seem much easier in with summer babies rather than winter ones (she had an august and a january baby) so I'm hoping she's right. I'm afraid your life is making me quite jeallous as well. DH and I first lived together in Fife and got married there so its a very special place for us and we'd love to move back there one day.

Can sympathise with those who are fed up with hospitals, my frequent appointments, combined with frequent phone calls from various departments getting confused about where I actually need to be seen and what has been done is getting a little wearing. Combined with working in a hospital as well it feels like i never get away!

meggy loving the stats, and the implications about nooky days of choice!

It was my birthday on friday and DH is definitely in the good books as I came back from dropping DD off at my parents on thursday to find he had taken the day off work to prepare a special birthday meal for me. It was wonderful and a great way to spend our first childfree evening since DD was born. Just a shame I had to go to work at the end of it really. DD surprised us by sleeping brilliantly for her grandparents so think we might be taking them up on childcare more often - seems like they all had a great time!

Sunworshipper · 30/01/2010 17:51

Meggymegs the stats are intriguing. I wonder what the Freakonomics authors would make of them.

Welcome Amandajo cold sympathies going out to you. Colds seem to be much worse in pregnancy or is it my imagination?

Gizmo my DH is a project manager but he does have a fab way with words - one of the things that attracted me to him in the first place! I'm in PR though.

Mampam really feel for you. It is so hard when the mind is willing but the flesh is not coming to the party and there seem to be obstacles everywhere.

I have just been referred for pregnancy hydrotherapy this week by my physio to try to ease the pain in my thoracic spine and my ribs. I have had a lot of spinal surgery to correct a curvature of the spine and carrying the baby is starting to take its toll. I could have hugged my physio when she suggested the hydrotherapy but now am trying to find the energy to find a decent maternity swimming costume. They all seem to be black! Any suggestions?

Nizzy congratulations on expecting a boy.

Greensnail happy birthday. Your DH sounds like a real honeybun.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2010 22:13

How is your dd's rash now greensnail?

Glad to hear of another good scan .

playftseforme · 31/01/2010 10:34

Hi sunworshipper, I started a thread asking exactly that question - where to get a vaguely attractive swimsuit/tankini from on the Style board (an area I rarely venture...).

If anyone can tell me how to link a thread, I'll hook it up to this one, cos I got some good responses. Black does seem to be THE colour, but there were some nice styles being suggested

Sunworshipper · 31/01/2010 12:09

Thanks playftseforme - found it! Love the one you are going for.

greensnail · 31/01/2010 15:41

She's so much better thanks CSWS. Seemed really unwell until she went to her grandparents on thurdsay and they seemed to have worked their special grandparent magic on her. She came back much better and was no bother for them at all. Rash is clearing up nicely as well.

playftse's thread Playftse I have a mothercare tankini that they don't seem to have any more, and find it good and the fit is ok on the boob area (i'm probably about average in that area!) I like a tankini with shorts as it cuts down the preparation needed in the bikini line area! Just seen this one on their website which looks like it has good coverage in that area! Do you think i could justify buying a second maternity swimsuit seeing as DD and i swim at least once a week?

Been musing about the size of my bump recently. Its strange as I feel much smaller than I did with DD and wasn't in maternity clothes as early this time, but strangers are definitely commenting on the bump much earlier this time so think I must look more pregnant than I did at this point last time. Last time around I spent longer in the is she pregnant or just fat stage I think. Perhaps my higher, better defined bump this time indicates a little boy...

georgee · 31/01/2010 20:07

CSWS - hm, let's see - born in Hitchin, moved to Great Gaddesden (not far from Leighton Buzzard) when about 2, then there were some years away (we moved around a fair bit for dad's job and took in North London and Oxfordshire), then my parents moved to Leverstock Green (Hemel Hempstead) and I spent a post-graduation-first-year-of-work with them there. But for the last eight years my sister and I have lived in St Albans - I moved to Edinburgh this year but I'm still in St A's half the time at the moment as that's my base while I'm working in London two/three days a week. Any of that anywhere near you?

Hope everyone's had a great weekend. DH and I took our first foray into Mamas and Papas to see what manner of things lurked therein. All those cots and changing stations completely bamboozled us, so some internet research will be needed before we venture back! I think I'll look at the thread history too to see which cots you were discussing a few days back ... should have taken more notice at the time!

justbeme · 31/01/2010 20:11

Cant keep up with this thread - although it's been quite quiet on here today - phew!

Am getting quite breathless, as I have a large fibroid that is pushing the baby up! So that combined with rib pain under boob, I can't seem to get comfortable.

I live in Hatfield - so not far from you Georgee!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/01/2010 20:34

My postal town is Hitchin georgee!! I express it like that because I'm actually in a village half way between Hitchin and St Albans. Well we'll be fine for a local meet up with 3 of us so close then!

OP posts:
Emster30 · 31/01/2010 22:03

I'm a total imposter from the July thread, but just thought I'd mention that I got a really nice maternity tankini in Mothercare yesterday. They had loads of nice designs, all half price in the sale - and the sale was buy one get one half price, so I got that and a pair of trousers for £18.

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/01/2010 22:16

lol lol lol! NizzyNoodles and I have, I think, just established that we are RL friends who used to work very closely with each other. What a small world .

OP posts:
greensnail · 31/01/2010 22:21

ooh thanks for that Emster you've convinced me that a trip to mothercare is definitely in order!

What a small world CSWS Let me know if you're having a herts meetup. I'm often over that way as my parents live there.

georgee · 01/02/2010 09:12

Ooh exciting CSWS and justbeme! Are you OK for week nights? I'm in Edinburgh at weekends but often free in Herts Tuesdays, sometimes Wednesdays ... before Easter is best because afterwards I think I'll be spending most of my time in Scotland ... anyway, shall we message each other and sort something? I'll consult the diary

georgee · 01/02/2010 10:19

Ooh, ooh, and greensnail too

madamefreckle · 01/02/2010 11:05

Our local Mothercare is utter utter PANTS! I tried to get some maternity clothes for work yesterday - it is a HUGE store but nothing I liked was in my size and even items that were, still didn't fit properly - and I'm a pretty average size 10-12 normally (not that weird i didn't think).

I ended up privately sobbing in the changing rooms for about 15 minutes. What a plonker. - But I wish I could feel 'sexy' pregnant. Surely it's a myth that any women do??!

MeggyMegs - Those stats are brilliant! Top marks for fantastic nerdiness too!

chestnut100 · 01/02/2010 12:11

hi all

I just can't keep up with the pace of this thread. Hope there isn't too much Monday morning blues lurking around?

A bit of advice pls ladies; felt bub move for the first time after the scan on thursday, and she was quite active for Friday and Saturday, but then yesterday and today I havent felt a single thing. Logically, I know she has probably just moved behind the placenta or something (placenta is at the front, and movement i have felt has been right at the sides) but I am still having a little panick. I have had some reassurance from the main board, but what do you guys think? IYE, is variety in movement normal at 20 wks?

On the plus side, ordered a very gorgeous travel system from Mamas and Papas on Saturday (the Ultima in Mimi, if you fancy a look). they had an offer on and I got £200 off the package price. Just had a look online and see the price has gone back up, which makes me feel a little better to have parted with such a huge sum in the first place!

Anyone else done any shopping?

NizzyNoodles · 01/02/2010 12:40

csws you're right - how wierd is that?? or does it say something about geeky accoutants??? I'd fb back but don't like to when I'm at work so will have to catch up later!

I could be around for a herts meet up as it's not that far from me either.

madamefreckle I agree that "sexy" pregnant must be a myth!

chestnut100 No "proper" shopping here but when I found out we were expecting a boy I went and bought a little outfit from mothercare. Try eating some chocolate or drinking something sugary and then you might feel baby move but try not to worry about it as it sounds normal to me.

georgee · 01/02/2010 12:51

Yes or eat icecream or drink something ice cold chestnut100, that sometimes helps. I find that if I'm in a position where my waistband (which is actually very low, I'm wearing those sort of hipster maternity trousers) is digging in a little bit, I tend to feel stuff then, I suppose it reduces the space the baby's got to move in! But I'm 21 weeks now and it's been really really erratic (and my placenta's at the back) - I remember having a little panic at the beginning of last week too (at 20 weeks) but over the last few days it's got gradually stronger. I would say the position of your placenta is a BIG factor. I also had a sleepless half hour at 4.30 the other morning and the LO was certainly moving then, so maybe she's doing all that when you're asleep?!

Great to get another Herts lady Nizzy!

minimoonumbertwo · 01/02/2010 13:59

Oh hello Herts ladies!! I grew up in Hatfield and am often back to see parents so do let me know of meet up if you have one.

Had a lovely weekend although getting stressed about doing lots of work to our flat and not being able to find somewhere else to live on our budget - hmmmm.

LaTrucha · 01/02/2010 14:53

Hello all,

chestnut100 - I think a variation in movement is fine ATM. I did call the midwife once when I was 26 weeks last time. They came and checked and all was fine so I would do it again later on, but I'm not worrying now.

I do think that later on, feeling at what times of the day your baby moves is very important. I am evangelical about this as it made all the difference in the world to DD and me!

Justbeme - what is causing your rib pain? I get something, not just when pregnant, which means my rib jumps up a notch inside. It is agony but osteopathy always has it sorted. Might this help you?

All going pretty well here. I can now say to myself, 'Oh, the scan is next week' so I feel less impatient . Still being sick every day. Anyone else? I'm usually ok after the first time.

When her Daddy was away last week DD made me draw a picture of him, me, and her before bedtime - and she insisted I added a baby too! And the other day in the street, she stopped me to point at herself for me to say 'DD'. me to say 'Mummy,' (which she often does) and then she pated my tummy to make me say, 'Baby,' too. Sweeeeeeeeeet! I have been told they grow up and become teenagers though

mampam · 01/02/2010 15:03

Chestnut I'm 23 weeks now, and I find baby's movement are still a little erratic. Most of the time I know when it's going to be moving around ie teatime, bed time and about 4.30-5am. It really depends on what I'm doing (ok, ok, I know I don't generally do alot!). If I'm sat down and relaxed or in the bath it's almost as if baby think 'yay some room, I'm gonna go for it' or if I really need a wee I feel like baby is saying 'go for a wee, I need more room'. I agree with georgee about wearing clothes that are too tight. I've got some tights on today and they keep falling down and keep digging in at the bottom of my bump...don't think baby is too impressed.

Had a fairly good weekend. Managed to get out of the house on Saturday night . Went to watch my brother (yes my annoying older one!) singing in the pub where I work(ed). It was nice to get out and see all my 'locals' but it reminded me of how much I miss working there (never thought I'd ever say that). It's in the village where I grew up (my parents still live there) and so I know everyone and at times it's like being paid to have a night out with my friends. It was my social life really and now it's not .

DH and I have got absolutely stinking colds though and we both feel really rotten but in a wierd kind of way it's good because for the last 2 nights I've actually slept a bit longer instead of my usual waking up at 2.30-3am and not getting back to sleep. I'm still sleeping on the sofa as my bed is just far too hard and it's really painful to turn over whereas the sofa is nice and soft and squidgy .

Had a nice chat with my GP this morn. She has now signed me off until my due date and I asked her about my sphincter scan, having a caesarian and we talked about me being sterilised! I've been thinking alot over the last few days and I don't want to ever go through this again (nine months of hell). She did say that they would probably be reluctant to do it anyway at my age and because I might change my mind (I won't). So we discussed other long term solutions!!

Oh and chestnut haven't done any baby shopping yet but DD keeps nagging me about it, anyone would think that she's my mother not my 10year old DD!!
Actually I tell a lie, when I did my online Tesco shop I ordered some wet wipes and some baby bath (but everyone else in this house likes Johnsons baby bath so it'll probably be used before baby has a look in). Hopefully the Physio will give me some crutches so I can go and hobble around a few shops!!!!
