Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

You need one of these wheredidmyfeetgo.

Cantsleep I may just have to kiss you. I will not be able to get a lakeland cake tin in time. However you have just reminded me that we have a fab cake decorating shop just down the road from the office and they hire out tins!

So I won't have to resort to baking in empty baked bean cans filly style, although I take my hat off to her!

meggymegmegs · 29/01/2010 15:08

Afternoon everyone,

Ok, I?m aware this makes me a complete geek and should certainly have better things to do with my Friday afternoon, but it?s a slow day at work (should be doing 2010/11 budget planning) and I was interested to know a bit more about everyone on the thread and so have done some stats crunching . For anyone who?s remotely interested, here are the results of my riveting research!

  • Total listed thread members: 77
  • 3 sets of twins expected, 74 singles
  • Average thread age: 33
  • Youngest member 23 and oldest member (sorry) 42.
  • Average number of dcs (including current pg): 2.2
  • Most common number of dcs: 2 (27 members)
  • Most children: sunshineday (5)
  • Most popular due date: 23rd June (6 members)
  • Other popular dates 1st, 2nd, 17th and 29th (5 members each)
  • Thursday is by far the most popular due date (20 members)
  • Followed by Tuesday (14), Wednesday (13), Monday (9), Saturday (8), Sunday (7), Friday (6)

I?m thinking that the final stat says something about most common nooky day too .

playftseforme · 29/01/2010 15:10

Ha ha that's brilliant Meggymegmegs!

fillybuster · 29/01/2010 15:15

Genius megs

Cake tin hire? sigh...wish there was one of those somewhere near me...am going to have to do something like space ship/rocket in august, I suspect....

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/01/2010 15:50

Are you an accountant meggy?
I could have sworn that we had 4 sets of twins expected. Did someone pop on to say that they were expecting some and then disappear again?

Hello and apologies to changing meggymegmegs wonderful stats but can I join please?

Have been lurking for a while and just haven't got around to saying hello
.

I'm pregnant with my 3rd. Already have two DS's 3.5 and 23 months. Due on 11 June which seems AGES away. Had my 20 week scan on Tuesday and everything seems fine, just a low placenta that needs checking at 34 weeks.

Currently nursing the cold from Hell so feeling quite sorry for myself. Only last week having a kidney infection. I want to start feeling well again!

Anyway, nice to meet you all!

meggymegmegs · 29/01/2010 16:02

No, cantsleep I work in marketing, I'm just a sucker for stats . My finger was seriously hovering before I posted that list, I thought I'd get crucified for being a saddo .

The twin thing could well be wrong, not sure if everyone has put it in the list in the same way? Happy to be corrected

mampam · 29/01/2010 16:06

Unfortunately I am a real thinker and unfortunately I have quite a lot of time on my hands at the moment in which to think!!! I like hearing about other peoples lives because mine is so boring and mundane, lack of money being the biggest factor in that. What is making life hardest at the moment is that the fact that I've been told I can't do anything. I know you all think I'm bonkers that I'm moaning about being bored all the time and that you would relish doing nothing but believe me the novelty wears off quite quickly.

Being told you are not to walk around a supermarket or even do any housework is so different to just not wanting to do those things. Today I have had to take DC's to school as DH couldn't because of work. I had to drive 20 minutes to the local town to pay some money in at the bank, where I parked as close as I could. Got to the bank and realised just how much I wanted to have a mooch about the town (it's only small) but I couldn't because I was in agony from driving and walking a short distance. These are things that we just take for granted until they are taken away from us.

So I apologise for thinking that other people's lives are glamorous/exciting but right now I don't see anyone to talk to and sometimes I don't set foot outside the door for days on end because it is physically impossible for me to do so. Taking myself off into another world/daydream is one of the things that I can do and I genuinely like hearing about what everyone else has been up to and what cars/buggies/cots etc are being bought because for a little while at least it takes my mind off things.

GibberingGinger · 29/01/2010 16:21

To rival Megs, here is another stat - we post on average 32 posts a day! HOwever this seems to be less at the weekend and more during the week.

CSWS/Megs, there was an american lady who was expecting twins as well (dragon something or other) who only popped onto the thread once. We might have scared her off

Mampam, whenever I'm ill/bedridden I always imagine its going to be nicer than it is IYSWIM. I imagine a day lolling around in bed and relaxing, but end up bored by 3 in the afternoon so I have lots of sympathy for you. If it helps here is a synopsis of my life,

Age 34 (yet to update list) Live in Fife, Scotland, orginally from Inverness. I'm a scientist (PhD). Work 4 days a week (thursdays off). Married to another scientist (its amazing how we interbreed!) for 3 years (anniversary next week) one daughter who has just turned 2. Not an exotic life at all I'm afraid - in fact embarrassingly boring when I write it down!

LaTrucha · 29/01/2010 16:23

mampam - I was housebound between 9 and 29 weeks last time so I know how you feel. Funnily enough, that is when I started mumsnetting. I could only look at a screen for a few minutes at a time, couldn't read more than 3/4 of a page of a novel and couldn't watch TV. (All of it made me violently sick). I remember wanting to go and look in one baby clothes shop after the 20 week scan - the only time I'd been out of the house in weeks- and I was too weak to get there. It was not fun. I do sympathise.

mampam · 29/01/2010 16:56

Ginger There are lots of interesting things about you. You live in Scotland, I've never been to Scotland. Would love to go one day as I've heard it's beautiful. Furthest north I've ever been is Cumbria and that was to seek out a James Bond museum for DH whilst we were on holiday in Lancashire last year. What sort of scientisty things do you do?? LOL at how you scientists interbreed!! My ex BIL and his wife are both Bio-Medical Scientists.

LaTrucha I would love to go out and look at baby things. I do look on the internet at things but it's not the same. Broke the rules last week and went with DH to Sainsbury's (only needed to get some squash and some bread so didn't think that constituted as walking around a supermarket plus it's only a small store! ). Saw some lovely little baby vests and matching babygros for girls. So cute but it made me want to go and look properly for baby stuff but of course I can't.

Like your statistics Meggy

NizzyNoodles · 29/01/2010 17:10

We had the scan today and everything is fine - no changes to due dates or anything so still on for 16th June.

We then went for our private scan and found out that we're expecting a BOY! So another one for team blue. I have to say I was very very very shocked but have come round a bit now. I'm glad we found out and it was really really obvious when she pointed it out to us! Although I still have this thing that it might still be wrong....

Hurrah for your little boy Nizzy! I really thought I was getting a boy - convinced of it - it took me about 12 hours to get my head around having a girl after my scan, and now I'm so excited but like you I'm a bit worried they've got it wrong!

Sorry you're having such a rubbish time mampam - it must be so difficult having to think about every little trip or activity. Really hoping someone comes up with something that helps you soon.

I live in Scotland like Gibbering and it is indeed beautiful but there's a very icy wind today ... I hadn't been to Scotland either before I started seeing DH (I'm originally from Hertfordshire). I have a PhD too but in a subject that's no good to man nor beast - Victorian Literature. Still, it qualified me for a less-than-earth-shattering job in marketing (I do a lot of writing) and helps me come up with interesting thread titles on MN, so it must have been worth all the time and money!

You'll tell us you're feeling better soon, just to avoid all these life stories!!

Take care of yourself x

LittleRobbo · 29/01/2010 17:25

Good afternoon ladies meggymegs loving your work

Inspired by Filly i baked some blueberry muffins yesterday,DH,ate one,i said 'what do you think?' he said 'erm, yeh, erm how can i put this, they are nice but,i dont know, something not quite right...okay,why are you looking at me like i am a complete shit? should i have lied?' Welcome AmandaJo

gizmo · 29/01/2010 17:38

Well because of a most unreasonable clause in my contract of employment that implies I have to do some actual work occasionally I have missed too much of this rather interesting conversation. So I'm going to fag-end mercilessly:

First thing to say is Mampam I got a feeling for how things were for you from the SPD thread and I'm constantly amazed at your resilience. I expect you don't feel resilient, but to tackle the nitty gritty of coping with SPD on top of everything else going on in your life right now must take enormous mental strength. I hope you get a very quick recovery in June.

Oh God, CAKE! Bollocky bollocks, I forgot to buy the cake! Dammit, then I shall bake tonight: it'll probably have to be a run of the mill chocolate sponge but if I put enough coloured hundreds and thousands and stick some high explosives sparklers on top of it I expect it will make a splash. My philosophy with birthday cakes is you don't have to make 'em pretty provided there's enough pyrotechnics on them. I once made a dalek that made a room full of 4 year olds cower. I was proud.

Dh is back from Japan tonight, oh happy day. PlayFTSE I am so pleased you've made some headway with your husband and, reading between the lines, I think you are right - if you don't put your foot down NOW you are going to find that his office mysteriously cannot find a replacement for him in India once the twins are here: because I'll bet you any money they haven't been looking.

Was chewing over the 'x under x' conundrum today and realised that my neighbour has 6 under 9, including 3 under 4 . And that her family is (superficially) one of the nicest, most harmonious groups of people you could ever hope to see: her DH is always to be seen out playing with the kids - they really parent as a team, often lots of other kids visiting, she's very involved with the school, etc etc. Gotta say, looks like a supermum to me, although actually I very much agree with Filly's comment about comparing lifestyles - I know it's amusing and often a good conversation piece, but if you ever start to take it seriously I think it can genuinely really drain your confidence and potential for happiness. I sometimes think marketing has a lot to answer for, setting up certain categories of life as 'aspirational'.

Gina, Nizzy, congrats on successful scans - so pleased to hear things are going in the right direction (upwards!).

Oh and Sunworshipper I've been meaning to ask what might sound like a slightly stalkerish question: your husband isn't in PR, by any chance?

MrsAlwaysRight · 29/01/2010 18:11

Can't believe how many new posts there are to catch up on!

Congrats to those who have had their scans.

Un-MN hugs to those that need them.

All this talk of cake is inspiring me to start baking once my new kitchen is finished. DH is convinced I am going to turn into a domestic goddess when its done - he might be somewhat disappointed!

Well I'm off on a spa weekend tomorrow with some old friends from school and I can't wait! Have a facial and pregnancy massage booked. Bring on the pampering and relaxation Then on Sunday night I'm out for dinner with my mummy friends for a good catch up. 3 out of 5 of us are now expecting #2!

Hope you all have a fab weekend.

MrsDmamee · 29/01/2010 18:13

mampam i honestly know how you feel....i have SPD too and when DH is in work i am housebound too and dont drive.

i havent been for a walk since before xmas when i had to bring DS to playschool on the days DH was working....it got too much by the week before xmas as it took me an hour in the morning then id be home for 1 1/2 hours and then back out again for another hours walk with my spd belt thing on and aching everytime i had to push his stroller up a hill.

i was so upset this week on tuesday evening as DH was back into work wednesday until saturday and that bascially meant id be stuck until sunday and id felt i got nothing done
DH does bring me around the local Mall here and i can manage an hour but need to sit down every so often and i always go to tesco with him but usually have to just sit on a bench and watch the world go by.
But i know its not forever but i still do dread when my bump really starts getting heavy.

whenwillisleepagain · 29/01/2010 20:25

I can't imagine what SPD's like and I am sure I'd be rubbish if I had it, so I agree with the comments about those of you who have it being very resilient.

Ok, I also have to admit I can't imagine what it's like to bake a cake because I've never done that either. My mum was a cookery teacher, very territorial about the kitchen and very clear how things should be done, to the extent I definitely ended up with baking phobia. Perhaps I should change my name to whenwillibakeagain, and that will make it less confusing on the me / cantsleepwontsleep front!

I have been worrying in my non-resilient way, about the fact that DS (3yrs) has leapt into bed with us twice recently and landed on my bump. Presumably this happens all the time to mums with small children and that's what the placenta's for - to protect the baby. But can anyone reassure me? Am worrying about squished baby and implications of that.

anyway hope weekend is ok for everyone - will catch up again soon

gaelicsheep · 29/01/2010 21:15

Great news Gina! So relieved for you.

Another one with SPD here. I saw the physio for the first time today and when I told her about my experience last time (I could barely walk by the end of my pregnancy) she was really shocked that I hadn't been able to get an appointment with a physio back then (as was I, and ). So hopefully things will be better this time - I've been given a Fembrace to try for walking so I'm praying the symptoms don't get as bad this time.

gaelicsheep · 29/01/2010 21:17

whenwillisleepagain - I think it's the amniotic fluid that protects the baby , and I'm sure it is doing that perfectly well - especially just now while the baby's still small. Don't worry!

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/01/2010 22:13

Welcome amandajo .

No saddo accusations from me meggy - I asked if you were an accountant because that's the sort of thing that I would do, and I am/was!

Whereabouts in Herts are you from georgee? I live there now, although am originally from Worcester (and for completeness of life history, also spent 4 years at uni in Exeter).

Can I recommend a cake book to all you bakers (and apols if I already have - I do tend to recommend it a lot!)? It's this. All the cakes use veggies instead of fat. She also mostly uses rice flour, so most of her recipes end up being both dairy and gluten free. But more importantly, they end up being very very nice!

I have had a very boring evening (once ds finally decided to stop screaming the place down except whilst being cuddled ) trying to find stuff to put in party bags for dd's party. Who invented this stupid modern tradition?!

OP posts:
NizzyNoodles · 29/01/2010 22:52

CSWS might be a bit young for your DD but I found that Asda seemed to have lots of little toy bits and bobs that were handy for party bags

Sympathy to everyone with SPD - sounds horrible.

Well, I might be slightly mad but I've just signed up to be in the village musical with the local amdram group - I'll be 32 weeks for the performances!! Oh well maybe the breathing practice for the singing will help with my breathing during labour?
