Welcome to the March Preggos. Here's hoping we see nearly 1000 posts before anyone pops!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
74slackbladder · 11/02/2010 11:11

Morning all.

So interesting to hear about everyone's parents and pil's visiting plans. I suppose tho that things will play out a lot more differently depending on whether it's your first or not.

Also interesting on the paternity leave. I was lucky last time in that DH was between jobs to managed to have a month off. This time he has saved up a week's leave from last year and will have his standard 2 wks. I was suggesting to him the other day that it might be a good idea to stagger the leave a little bit, rather than take it all at once and also to perhaps not take too much time off in the first few days. His boss is fairly flexible, so hopefully there can be a bit of working from home etc which will help out no end.

Luckily for my my fingers are not total sausages, but I haven't been able to get my engagement ring on for weeks. Wedding ring still ok, but my horrendous eczema is making rings in general a bit tricky. However, ankles are becoming swollen now, which is attractive! Oh the collective joys of pregnancy eh ladies !

Caitni · 11/02/2010 11:41

Oh FGS - just lost two posts! Must be my sausage fingered typing!

So apologies for any missed - am typing from distant memory now!

Pacific love your DS3 getting your slippers - clever lad!

Shroomer I love the name Arthur (but then I'm biased as I have a brother called that). Connotations definitely King Arthur for me.

Tigress good to hear from you and glad it's all going well. Though sorry to hear you've not found the thread(s) relevant. As a fellow first timer I've found it invaluable (any random Q I've had, from how to buy a nursing bra before birth to how many maternity towels is enough to start with, answered thoroughly!).

anna don't feel bad for mentioning your DD! I may be all about pregnancy and birth right now but I know it won't be long before this yet-to-be born baby is going to grow into a toddler before too long! So I like hearing about the older DC amongst us . Especially as my ante natal friends are all inexperienced first timers like me...

Manda another sausage fingered lady here. Though not noticeable apparently (even my midwife says I look fine). I took my wedding and engagement rings off as a precaution this week as was having visions of having to get them cut off in A&E!

BPM only one more week - so glad the end is in sight for you . Am loving maternity leave (admittedly I don't have older DC to contend with ).

So finally started packing my labour bag today - quite fun really, getting all the bits and bobs I've accumulated over the months into one bag. Though still planning to go to the British Museum today.

I've also booked into the Whittington's "preparation for labour/inducement" acupuncture next week. Tis free, and I loved acupuncture when I was TTC and having fertility treatment. Also have a pregnancy massage booked for tomorrow .

In fact, for any north london-ish ladies - my pregnancy massage is at this place - Integrated Body Dynamics - and they're doing a two for one offer on all treatments until the end of Feb. So two massages for the bargaintastic price of 45 quid!

No sausage fingers here - but hamburger hands. Is that possible? This morning I tried to put on a couple of bangles that normally just slide on but no joy. Weird.

Shroomer, I think Arthur is a fabulous name. I know a lovely three year old Arthur (my cousin's son) so the name has only positive associations for me. That said, I think an awful lot of names have "associations" if you choose to look for them but if you love a name enough any bad ones (e.g. aardvark related) won't bother you.

Meita - I remember you too and am delighted to hear your good news.

Tigress - good to see you pop back in and to hear that you're doing well. And sorry you felt like that (even sorrier because I know I'm one of the ones who mentions older children) but, honestly, it is not always easy to untangle your feelings about and difficulties with a second/third/fourth/whatever pregnancy from the children you already have. And, like Rindercella said, it can actually be really hard not to mention them....

Caitni - Enjoy the British Museum and the pregnancy massage. Both sound great.

It was interesting to read everyone's views about post-birth visitors. Ideally, I am firmly in the camp of "no notifications to anyone until baby has safely arrived" and then short visits only for the first couple of weeks. Worked well last time: mother, PIL and other family were phoned after DS arrived. PIL, SIL and niece who lived nearer, came for a couple of hours at some point during the first week and then my mother came to stay and DSis to visit when DH went back to work. Won't be so easy this time as we need childcare and now live only 10 mins away from PILs and SIL. I hate the idea of anyone knowing that I'm in labour but it's obviously unavoidable. Also hate the idea of anyone other than DH and DS visiting me in hospital, should it be necessary to stay. Was horrified when I heard SIL tell her 4 yo that "we can go and visit them in hospital". Luckily for me, my local hospital's maternity unit only allows the same two visitors for the duration of the stay. And the only children who are allowed are the mother's own - and they don't actually count towards the two visitors limit.

One-and-a-half days to go to mat leave. Cannot wait not to have to: (a) try to get into work frame of mind after another night's insomnia; (b) worry about not getting a seat on the train; (c) fail to get into the office on time yet again (am blaming comedy cowboy walking abilities for this); (d) cope with my chronically overheated office; I feel like an out-of-control radiator much of the time. And, who knows, maybe mat leave will help shift my frame of mind from Denial to Yay, Go For It!

lisbapalea · 11/02/2010 12:54

sariska I completely share your feelings about work. Am sick of dealing with crappy overcrwoded public transport, then worrying about getting in late and then worrying about not looking like I care enough when all I want to do is sleep!

Just 1 more week of it after today though - woohoo!! Am really looking forward to some daytime sleeping (sorry to anyone with children already who probably can't indulge in that!).

If anyone's updating a list anytime soon can I get added on? I am due on March 10th, it'll be my my first one, and I don't know what flavour it will be. Just want it to arrive before March 14th so I can get a mother's day card! Is that pathetic?

BulletProofMum · 11/02/2010 12:56

I am so with you on the over heated office. I am in an open plan office and keep having to strip down to my vest - not a pretty sight.

If one more bloody person comments on my tattoo (previosly unseen).

Startign to get really scared about labour.

BulletProofMum · 11/02/2010 12:57

I have spent the last two weeks tryign to get my weding ring off - finally succeeded yesterday - iwas also paranoid - I swelled dreadfully after my CS first time round - they would definitely have had to have snipped it.

GColdtimer · 11/02/2010 13:32

hello, I am still lurking. Its just that you all post so much I can't keep up and then I feel guilty if I post and don't mention you all and what has been going on so I just don't post at all!

Anyway, I am still lurking although still busy at work so not really posting.

I am due 2nd March (amended due date) with baby #2 and its a girl. I am hoping to have a home birth which is a litle bit scary.

Can't wait to see the first birth annoucment.

Sorry to those of you who are feeling rubbish - all I want to do is slllleeeppppp at the moment.

ilovegreenbeans · 11/02/2010 14:03

Just 2 quick things:

  1. The Arthur in the cartoon is a bit geeky, but he's lovely and loveable too. Def not bad associations!
  1. When DD was born I was DESPERATE for visitors since my family live abroad (mum arrived 11 days after which was bliss) and DH's family live about 3 hours away. And our friends told me later that they were trying to give us space, but I actually wanted people round! Just another perspective.
Caitni · 11/02/2010 14:15

OK, quick list update:

Twofalls saw you on the home birth thread - am also planning one (as is Rebecca on here I think).

Puree hope you're enjoying the last day of being a family of three! Wouldn't blame you if you're counting the hours/mins/secs though, as I bet you want relief from your SPD...

Just wondering if we ought to start a (deep breath) post natal thread for those of us about to have our beautiful babes?

I seem to recall that people on here didn't want to hear birth stories, am I right or did I dream that?

BulletProofMum · 11/02/2010 14:52

P&P - good luck tomorrow!

ARe you excitind terrifed or both?

Mumbot - how are you feeling?

BulletProofMum · 11/02/2010 14:52

BTW... I'm happy to hear birth stories

annamama · 11/02/2010 15:09

I think birth stories should be on the new postnatal thread as when you have given birth you're not antenatal anymore! I'm not sure if I wanna read it before I give birth myself, I keep changing my mind... so it would be easier to avoid if it wasn't on here.

Sympathies to those with sausage fingers and hamburgers hands...

Overheated offices - that's ridiculous and what a waste of energy! I used to phone the propery maintenance desk where I worked and get them to turn the air cond down when I was too hot or couldn't breathe due to lack of oxygen! (I'm very sensitive to that...)

Thanks Caitni Yeah babies will grow into toddlers and even teenagers I suppose!

Rinders - no MY DD is the most gorgeous thing going...

I guess it's relevant to talk about other kids if it's to do with our current pregnancy. I'm slightly worrying about how to and how much to prepare DD for the new baby. I'm not going on to much about it but sometimes I say things like: You know when the baby in mummy's tummy comes out it will cry a lot? DD: WAAA WAAA! Me: That's it, good girl.

Meita · 11/02/2010 15:14

Awww ladies, thanks for all your well-wishes! I'm impressed that I'm still remembered... I thought pregnancy did all sorts of bad things to memory!

I'm very glad to have been able to share good news with you all before the babies start arriving Although I was only here for a short time, it meant a lot to me. You just don't get a second shot at "first ever BFP", and as I'm sure some of you will know from experience, a BFP post MC is not quite the same. So although it had a sad ending, I do remember the days on here fondly - the excitement, the feeling that the whole world has changed, that something fundamental is happening. And sharing it all with lovely women in the same situation

Anyway, will let you get on with the important business of having March-babies, wishing you all the best!

74slackbladder · 11/02/2010 15:24

Just back from MW appt and managed to not only forget my notes but also forget to take a 'sample' so had to try and squeeze a bit more out while i was there. D'oh!

All ok with baby, MW says it looks like its slightly back to back right now but not worried as plenty of time for it to move.

Sorry to the first timers, but i've heard a few people say recently that they have not bothered to get DC2 in to a routine very early as it's not worth trying. Anyone else found that to be the case - those of you who have already made the leap from one dc to two ?

mumbot · 11/02/2010 15:31

Hi BPM feeling much more relaxed about everything now, going to have a nice lazy week pampering before c-section x

Good luck P&P hope the induction works and goes as planned x

P&P, I can't believe I missed where it said you are being induced tomorrow. Best of luck!

74slackbladder · 11/02/2010 15:43

Yes P&P good luck for tomorrow.
An excellent day to be born. My DS's birthday is tomorrow.
Hope all goes to plan

annamama · 11/02/2010 15:49

Wow, I missed that too... good luck P&P! You'll most likely be the first one to give birth then! Do let us know how it goes, if you don't have time to start a new postnatal thread I'm sure one of us will for you.

I did a search to see if EmLouT had posted on any other threads, she hasn't.

Thanks Pixie yes she is most of the time.
