You can add a Deutsch keyboard to your computer and then easily switch between english and german when needed.
Go to Control Panel - Regional and Language Options - Languages - Details... - Add...
Then you obviously choose German from the list and voila, you will be able to input the characters, IF you know where they are on a german keyboard!
And click on Language Bar... to be able to switch between the 2 from your desktop. I have EN or SV displayed at the bottom right on my status bar and I just click on it to change.
This is for Windows XP so might be different if you have Vista but I'm sure you can work it out!

PacificDogwood · 30/01/2010 21:23

Thanks!

Caitni · 31/01/2010 11:42

Morning ladies

TLC great to have you back . I'm on the raspberry leaf tea as well, also the real stuff, so am using a tea strainer too - actually really like the taste! And am now (trying to) be on two cups a day, but I'm not really a tea drinker so finding it hard to fit it into my day [lazy emoticon].

Pacific & anna loving all the multi-lingual keyboardism

Smac well done on getting your accounts & tax return done!

Sarah so glad to hear Rosie's doing well and lovely name .

Pacific going back a bit, but totally don't think you're unreasonable to plan a joint party for your DSs. There's 4 days between mine and my younger sister's birthday, so there were plenty of joint parties (we had mostly the same friends, only a year between us) and we (nearly) always loved it!

Rebecca so sorry to hear your DH may potentially miss the birth, but glad things seem less scary now you've thought about it. Having a doula booked is great, as you'll definitely have a wonderful support in place anyway. And hopefully it'll all work out and your DH will be able to be there.

Big waves to everyone else. Hope everyone's had a good weekend.

Been busy here - next week is my last week at work, and cannot wait to be finished! Not much left to do now, as have effectively foisted most things onto my maternity cover. And we're spending this weekend getting a bit more organised for baby - car seat isofix thing fitted, more stuff onto freecycle/into the cellar to finish emptying the spare room, cot being assembled as I type...and booked my Boots tens machine this morning.

And went to see Precious last night, an amazing film but pretty harrowing in (many) places. I, of course, bawled throughout large chunks of it. Which was actually a relief in a way, as I had been inexplicably moody and tearful for large chunks of yesterday afternoon....

BelgianMummy · 31/01/2010 19:34

Hi all,

I've been following this thread for only a few days now and am slowly getting to know some of you [Waves]. It is really interesting to read all about the different experiences everyone has and the support everyone gets.

So if you'll allow me, I would like to ask you guys for some advise. I have had a pretty good pregnancy up until now (at least compared to my first one more than 2 years ago). But yesterday I suddenly started having sever pain in my groin area on the right (I am guessing it has something to do with the pelvis). Today I still have the pain and started to feel sick. I have just emerged from the bathroom after a session of projectile vomiting (sorry if TMI) .

Now I am not sure if the 2 are related or not.. My 2 year old DD threw up 2 nights ago, so I am thinking it might be norovirus.

Has anyone had any of the same symptoms or experiences? Any ideas on what it could be? Should I call my MW?

I'm almost 34 weeks pg btw.

hecklephone · 31/01/2010 19:40

Hello ladies

Glad to hear everyone seems to be holding up well and is in good spirits these days.

Regarding Raspberry Leaf tea, I drank a fair amount last time and still had one of the longest labours I've heard of, and TBH I never fell in love with the taste of it, so I'm probably just going to give it a miss this time.

And welcome back TLC! Glad to know I'm not the only Northern Irish girl on this thread any more!

As for my health woes - a quick update. My diagnosis has changed from Bells Palsy to Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, which is, essentially, shingles of the face. So it causes the same paralysis as Bells, as well as a rather nasty earache, some dizziness and can potentially have a fairly lengthy recovery time. The docs have now prescribed anti-virals as well as the steroids (just hope the placenta's doing a good job in there and filtering out any nasties for the LO). I'm feeling quite up and down with it, obviously, but am clinging onto the hope that taking the meds will give me some improvement in the short term, even if it does take several weeks/months to completely clear.

DH has been brilliant with helping out and letting me rest, as have his parents, and my Mum's coming tomorrow too to lend a hand. It's so weird - I just thought I'd have a normal 2nd pregnancy, same as the first - now I've got this quite rare disease which has knocked me for six a bit.

Enough drama - even I'm getting bored with my newly-acquired health problems and I'm certainly feeling lucky that it's nothing more serious and nothing which is harming the baby. I just want to get over it ASAP.

On the up side, I managed a trip out with DH yesterday to Mothercare and bought some new wee outfits for DD2. I took some sleepsuits out of the packet today and they were SO SMALL. It was lovely though - a little reminder about the bigger picture and the fact that, oh yes, we're still having another baby!

(Makes mental note to start packing hospital bag...just in case. Still haven't bought a single newborn nappy - yikes)

DrSkidaddle · 31/01/2010 21:58

Just a quick one as supposed to be working...

heckle how horrid. Glad you are getting lots of rest and supposr and hope things get betters soon

caitni - I want to see Precious too although I'm sure it will have the same effect on me!

Any advice on breech babies? MW thinks mine is breech. Have to go for a scan on Tues to confirm... I assume they will advise a CS if he is breech? Has anyone ever heard of a baby turning after 37 weeks? Has anyone ever had an ECV (is that right? when they try and turn the baby by grabbing your belly)? Has anyone ever had a vaginal delivery with a breech baby? Would that be madness? Thanks

MummyElk · 31/01/2010 22:00

hi all
been lurking and keeping up with you all but never seemed to have much time to post or indeed, add anything interesting to the mix!!
belgianmummy, someone like pacific will have a better idea but it could be any number of things (SPD, UTI, even tummy bugs do some really odd things to you in pg i find), i'd call MW if you are at all worried. And rest up with plenty of fluids!! Poor you. I had norovirus at about 32 wks in my first pg and it was AWFUL, the colicky pains were very painful across such a huge tummy, and I found any urge in the following wks for a, um, number 2 were accompanied by similar pains...quite often took my breath away!! Keep us posted and hope you feel better soon. poor you!
(TMI i know. but there's nothing quite like a good conversation about poo!)
rebeccacad I think most have answered your queries but agree with everyone, and FWiW I ran it past DH...who said, he thinks it comes down to how the new job will affect you as a family, financially and lifestyle-wise etc etc (eg if it will make a big difference to your future, it's worth it). he said he loved being there for DD's birth but ultimately it was the start of another, more important journey... just to give you a bloke's perspective?! i think you have some great support there with a doula etc booked, and with the right frame of mind you can do anything, even cope without him on the day. Least you have some time to get your head around all that too? dunno if that helps or not.

all fine here. nice wknd away, prob the last one to our friends with just one DC so bit odd! am huge and hips are struggling. hoping to see MW this wk, she was ill for my app last week so not sure what is happening!

Arcadie how was the wedding?! Stole a sneaky peek at a facebook pic and am happy to tell the girls you looked LOVELY!!!
and pacific good luck tomorrow, hope it's not too painful, keep us posted. We'll all be thinking of you.

Just a quick post before I head off to bed to get three hours sleep before the inevitable trips to the loo start...

heckle you poor thing, make sure you take care of yourself.

Belgianmummy I agree, always bother the midwife if you're at all worried, that's what they're there for!

DrSki don't know if this helps but I was a breech birth, born vaginally and at home too - it has made me the woman I am today (so my mum says - I hope this is a compliment )

Raspberry leaf tea - I have some in the cupboard and our NCT class raved about the stuff. Hope I don't find it nasty.

and Bluey I don't think I could make it to book 10!! Ah well, I'm destined never to read it in full. I shall go back to my undemanding reading of Unseen Academicals.

Caitni · 31/01/2010 22:18

Belgian sounds like it probably is the norovirus. The pain in the groin could be something to do with how the baby is lying at the moment (I've been getting random stabbing type discomfort down low for some weeks now - am nearly 36 weeks).

Heckle you poor thing. What bad luck to get this while you're pregnant . You sound in good form (or trying to be), which I admire, as I reckon I'd be wallowing in self pity if I was you!

DrSkid I've no direct experience of breech (obviously, as I'm a first timer ), but was talking to my midwife about it as she recently delivered a breech baby vaginally. Although she's a home birth midwife, this woman was under her care so she was one of the midwives who delivered the baby at the hospital. There was a paedaetrician (sp?) also there, just in case, and of course consultants on call if needed. She said that it's the 5th breech she's attended in 7 years of practising - and like all vaginal breeches it attracted more onlookers than usual as it's quite uncommon to see them these days. She said you usually see them these days with twins, where the first is head down and the second moves into breech once the first delivers. One of my SILs in Ireland had a successful ECV at 37-ish weeks. She really wanted to avoid a c-section if she could so definitely wanted an ECV as a first option, despite the risk of early delivery. In the meantime, I know it's been linked to before, but perhaps there's advice to be found on this spinning babies website.

OK, ramble over .

Caitni · 31/01/2010 22:23

X posts with IWCAS Jas and MummyElk

IWCAS so sorry to hear the SPD is so bad but well done you on all the internet shopping - so organised!!

Mummy hope you enjoyed the weekend away and hope you get to see the midwife soon.

Jas I like the taste of raspberry leaf tea but reckon it's cos I add a teaspoon of honey! In fact, you've reminded me I need to have my second cup of the day

[wanders off to put the kettle on]

EmLouT · 01/02/2010 08:44

Raspberry leaf tea - yuk (sorry Caitni) - I'm sticking to the tasteless capsules!

I know this is a very un Monday morning type of question but does anyone else have unbearably itchy nipples? Mine are so itchy but I can't bear to scratch them because they are so sensitive - any fellow sufferers.

Had very poorly toddler over the weekend - temp of 40 degrees, not sleeping and feeling very sorry for himself - he is on the mend now but I am knackered! Roll on tomorrow when he is at nursery and all I have to do is make it to a hospital appointment at 9.15. Going for scan this pm so hopefully baby will be proved to have done some growing!

mumbot · 01/02/2010 08:49

Agree with EmLou that rasperry leaf tea is yukky. Hope your DS feels better soon x

Does anyone know where you can buy the tablets from? Can you get them in Boots or is it a trip to local healthfood store.

at realising I've been typing Elm, instead of EmLou!

Loads more reflux here, getting really annoying now

BulletProofMum · 01/02/2010 09:54

Itchy boobs in general - I can't wait to get my bra off int eh evening

Also won't be bothering with raspbery leaf tea - it tastes vile!

Pissed off today - AIBU?

I share drop off's / pick up with a friend. I find it har enoguh looking after my two without her son on top but at the moment it is very helpful having help from her. I also find her son rude and naughty.

Last week she asked me if I could pick up her son today and said sorry I couldn't as my son has his swimming lesson. This morning she asked me againa dn when I said no she begged and begged. First asking me to miss his class then saying could I not just take him and he'd sit quietly etc (yeah right). In the end I gave in but feel really peed off. Of course I'd help if she really needed it but she has a work lunch out and would have to miss dessert!

PacificDogwood · 01/02/2010 10:41

Good morning, ladies!

I am going to try and do the clever multiple-windows-open-thing, but only going back a day or so, so apologies to anybody I am missing out .

Caitni, thanks for your input re joint parties. I have done it before without second thoughts when they were younger. There is 1 year and the all improtant 10 days between them .

Re Precious: no way could I watch anything harrowing at the mo! I am a wuss at the best of times, but really emotional/hormonal right now. I went out of my way to avoid "Mo" last night although it looked v good .

Belgianmummy, welcome! I would agree you may well have dreaded Winter Vomiting Virus, particularly if it came on quite suddenly, made you vomit lots and then went again after only 24-48 hrs - leaving you feeling rubbish and washed out, no doubt! Hope you are feeling better by the time you read this. And re pain: all sorts of ligaments keep being stretched, but get it checked out in RL if ongoing.

Hecklephone, did you have to go for some weird and wonderful condition?? Just to be interesting??
Crap for you, but I hope that your meds are working and your smile will be back in time to meet baby.

IWCAS, you poor thing, you really sound like you are suffering; SPD is just horrid. I hope your physio can do good things for you. Are you seeing a specialist Maternity Physiotherapist? The one I saw a couple of times in my last pregnancy was a phantastic help (I had more Sacroiliac joint problems rather than proper SPD) and I usually waddled floated out of her consulting room with relief for several hours or days at times. Good luck!

DrSkid, re breech babies, yep, look at Spinning babies and google "optimal fetal positioning". ECV can work, I do not know the statistics, but equally has some risks, can be uncomfortable and a lot of babies turn back, the wee sods! Re breech delivery, of course it is possible, however assissting a breech delivery is one of those skills that is getting increasingly lost, because more breech babies are delivered by CS to reduce getting sued risks . Fingers crossed your baby will spin the right way round.

To all those considering Raspberry Leaf in whatever form: I am in the yucky team re tea, hence had tablets the last time. I wonder what my tincture will be like when it arrives . I had some horrid tincture 2 years ago to try and stimulate milk production and I honestly had to hold my nose and gulp it down quickly to not gag...

And lastly, but not leastly : nope, no itchy nipples here. I am sleeping in v stretchy cotton bra but realised the other day than my nipples are getting v squashed so will go free range from now onwards...

BPM, some 'friend'! It is always the worst feeling when you give in to something and then feel resentful, isn't it? I admire people who have the knack of being assertive without being aggressive, IYKWIM? Hope your day will be ok anyway and her son will be on his best behavious .

Have a good one everybody!

Henrietta · 01/02/2010 10:45

Been up to my eyes so haven't been on for a couple days. Starting to panic about birth because of previous tears now 32 wks doing lotz of research on internet so YEP got the whingy toddler syndreome!!!
Trying to get baby stuff sorted, so one thing less to worry about.kids coooooooooooooing over little outfits/babygros. Had a major tidy out on Sat as needed to clear a chest of drawers for babys stuff....
Wave to every one else syffering with heartburn SPD etc.
emlou great news about weight must be a relief
evitas&Schroomer sorry yours are transverse at moment - presumably more painful as you have head & bums sticking out each side instead of just bums & kicking limbs.
DB we moved whenDD was 2 & expecting no2, she was fine - just try and keep some activities you do the same - if you can get nursery to take your first in now to try and acclimatise may help or go back to see familiar faces/friends from old area once moved. also TIP used to spend one of babys nap times just playing with toddler for 10mins really helped his attitude, as did going back to toddler groups

annamama · 01/02/2010 11:54

I had itchy boobs / nipples too a few months ago, tried different things but the only thing that helped was changing my bra. Used to wear a padded one, think boobs got too hot in there! So now I wear a really thin acrylic Triumph one and the itchiness is completely gone.

TakeLovingChances · 01/02/2010 12:08

Hi!

I am not a tea lover normally, but I am liking the Raspberry Leaf stuff I think perhaps I like it because my mind is telling me that it is 'doing me good'.

On the other hand, I almost was crawling around my bedroom floor with bad heartburn last night, but only managed to take Peptac for it after hours of agony because I hate the taste of it and couldn't face it!

Do any of you have any scans coming up soon? I have my 36 week scan on Wednesday Looking forward to it!

mumbot · 01/02/2010 12:17

Oooh TLC my scan is on same day for 36 weeks so excited too!

DorindaG · 01/02/2010 12:22

you have a scan at 36 weeks? I only had one at 12weeks and one at 20weeks.
Has anyone had a 4D scan? We thought about it but it just seemed too costly in the end.
DP thought it would spoil the surprise of seeing the little man's face when he does arrive (39+2; ohmigosh)

mumbot · 01/02/2010 12:31

Hi Dorinda yes mine is to check position of baby who is breech at the moment - not a routine check

BulletProofMum · 01/02/2010 12:46

Re breech... DS1 was breech - I tried all the rational things to turn him (arse waving, it makes room), but kept away fromt he nonsesical (moxitibustion - or whatever it is, essentially holding a candle by your toe!).

They wouldn't try ECV (I didn't liket he sound of it anyway). The consulatnat and midwives were superb and many midwives consider it a perfectly normal way to deliver. In N Europe it is not an automatic reason to have a CS. It does however take experience to deliver and is a skill that is being lost). The head of midwifery at my hosptical changed all their rotas to ensure that there was an experienced midwife always on duty when I was due. As it was I failed to press (they will let you try for 1 cm/hour) and ended up with a cs. For some illogical reason I felt a failure and got hung up on it. In hind sight just wished I'd gone for the CS from the start. It wasn't that bad!

Try seraching Mary Cronk for loads of info on breech deliveries

Caitni · 01/02/2010 12:48

Pacific at that all-important 10 days! It's four days less than a year between me and my younger sister and yes, between the ages of about 5 and 11 I hated the way that every year she used to go around saying "and now we're twins" during that 4 day period! Then I just got over myself and now quite enjoy having a fake twin for less than a week a year . So I can see why that 10 days is so important

DrSkidaddle · 01/02/2010 12:49

TLC and mumbot - my scan is tomorrow but not feeling very excited, just nervous! Is your baby breech too TLC?

Thanks caitni and pacific for advice - can't imagine he's going to turn of his own accord now (37+3)? Have been reading about how ECV can (rarely) cause bleeding which means you have to have an immediate EMCS - has anyone refused an ECV - would this be a ridiculous thing to do? Only works in 50% of cases anyway according to what I've read..

evitas & Schroomer - think ECV works in 90% of cases for transverse babies which is a bit better...
