With you all big time on frustrations....I just want to get this over with and meet my little one, little bit uncomfortable down there but not really any signs. The baby is defo big so really don't wanna run late, I'm due Sun.

Massive congrats to all you lucky ladies who have your babies already, its so fab hearing your news, stories and great names. Angela am a particular fan of the name Poppy as I have been Poppy for last 31 yrs and love it!

Fizi I am the same with sleep, DP is still working nights which really messes me up. I just cannot sleep at night, wake too early then just cannot get to sleep during day. I feel like shit right this minute. Same as you I am desperate to go into labour but also worried I am too tired to handle and don't know how I can catch up.

Not knowing what sex my baby is I am trying not to get too attached to either sex names but having real issues, never thought it would be so hard. My friend, not like a really close friend, maybe see every coupla months just had a baby girl. the second name she gave her daughter I adore and cannot help thinking if I do have a little girl I will desperately want to use it. I totally admit hadn't even heard of it before she used it. Not going to make big thing till I know sex but when I do if a girl do you think it would be awful to give her this name and if so, do you think I should at least ask/tell my friend first. The way I see it is nobody knows my second name and I know nobodys second name really so cannot see the fact her dd has it as second name being an issue, it it was her dd's first name would def not consider. Waddya think?

Sending big labour/good breastfeeding vibes to all x

P.S. That Steve guy on that programme was a perfect example of how not to act as birthing partner. My aquanatal coach actually said it was his fault that baby got so distressed in end because mum was not happy. Regarding the son's presence all I can say is RIDICULOUS AND A BIT SICK!

fiziwizzle · 11/02/2010 19:49

Pops if I were you I'd just go with the name, no need to check with your friend first, what if she said no??!! It's her DD's second name, no-one will use it and most people won't even know she has it.

I couldn't agree more about Steve as a birthing partner. I watched those scenes in mounting horror as he actively impeded her labour. I could only think that he REALLY didn't want this baby and this was his way of showing it... that poor woman. She'd have done so much better without him - I'd have just got him out of the room pronto (well, out of the marriage pronto if that was anything to go by).

Nothing happening here labour-wise!

BabyGiraffes · 11/02/2010 20:18

Congratulations to all the new arrivals.. hadn't checked for a day or so.
My thoughts for the day... Does anyone else find it easier to deal with two dds (2 1/2 and 1 week) than cope with dh? Dh has been so stressed for the past week, you would have thought he'd gone through labour, had some minor needlework done below, barely slept in a week, and suffered excruciating pain trying to breastfeed a hungry baby with cracked bleeding nipples...

bethylou · 11/02/2010 20:22

Pops I'd agree with Fizi on the name issue, particularly as it's a second name. We're going to steal the (very traditional anyway) name of a friend's child but a) they live 500 miles away and b) the child is nearly 2 and we haven't met him yet so not too bothered.

I've raked the garden, scrubbed the outside of the porch and swept the decking today. Now feel like I've fallen on the cross bar of a bicycle but fear this is more to do with SPD than the beginnings of labour!!

For those of you worrying about lack of sleep: last time round I only slept for 3 hours a night for about 6 weeks before the birth (due to sore hips). The night before I had DS I got 2.5 hours sleep and still managed to get through a 16 hour labour with relative ease. I hope this reassures you. Just try and keep up fluid and food intake while you're in labour so the body has something to burn (or lucozade if you can't eat like I couldn't).

3+1 hope you get a sweep tomorrow if nothing has happened by then.

chinook · 11/02/2010 20:47

Congratulations to all the new mums. We have had quite a flood of new arrivals. To my dismay I still have a bump not a babe and will be a week overdue tomorrow. I had a sweep this morning, which didn't hurt at all to my surprise, and the midwife said I was 1-2 cm dilated already and my cervix was stretchy. She seemed to think this was a good thing! So I am crossing my fingers now, particularly as I have had some spotting and cramps since the sweep.

I have had a busy day finally organising dd's birthday party and choosing a new car. I feel that now these are done I can concentrate on the forthcoming arrival.

I agree with bethylou on the lack of sleep issue. Somehow you just get through. The advice to sleep when the baby sleeps really is the best, and it does help you get through it.

Hope you new mums are coping and healing well. I found all the sleep/feeding threads on mumsnet an absolute godsend when I had dd.

mawbroon · 11/02/2010 21:11

Blimey, I give up! Can't keep up with all the new arrivals. Congratulations to everybody, I hope you are enjoying the wee cuddly bundles.

I am managing to sleep all night long. I am so bloody knackered by bedtime probably because I am doing far too much. I am able to get around the house without my crutches and have been cleaning and hoovering and cooking, looking after ds a lot more etc etc I want to make the most of this short relatively capable phase before I get the big setback (ankle recovery wise) of the birth.

My bump seems to be dropping, but I can still feel the baby's head above my pubic bone, so he doesn't seem to be engaged at all.

Nothing else to report really, except I just cannot shift this most recent dose of thrush. I have had 4 courses of pessaries/cream duing this pregnancy, and this last lot was for 5 days and it's done nothing. The doc was trying to tell me that it wasn't thrush, but just heavy discharge which was common in late pregnancy. She took a swab, and guess what, it came back showing it was thrush..... Docs, eh?

woowa · 11/02/2010 21:31

Hi all, just to say, Elisheba Jemimah was born on tuesday 9th feb, 7lb 9oz. just out of hospital following much blood loss and then a transfusion . but both well now, v tired, off to sleep, catch up properly tomorow! xx

OP posts:
fiziwizzle · 11/02/2010 22:56

Congratulations woowa on the birth of Elisheba, what a lovely unusual name . So sorry to hear that it was difficult . Sending you lots of healing vibes. Looking forward to hearing more when you feel up to it.

mawbroon I guess you've tried all the usual thrush remedies, yoghurt, tea tree oil, garlic?! (Can't say I've ever tried garlic myself...) The last case I had, a week or so ago, I finally saw off with diluted tea tree oil which I applied every time I used the toilet - i.e. a LOT. Either that worked, or the thrush was on the way out anyway, but it had stubbornly persisted for a week up to that point.

Also it does sound as if you are doing far too much - and all with a broken ankle - you so put me to shame . All I have done today is one load of washing. And I'm exhausted!!

stoofadoof · 12/02/2010 07:32

yey woowa congratulations! sounds like you've had a bit of time of it, but good to hear you're both home now... take it easy!

wondering how 3plus1 getting on, and also jealous of chinooks sweep - sounds like it might have worked? fingers crossed!!

also, i'd echo the others on getting through labour - i managed 29 hours of regular contractions (with no sleep during!) on top of about a week of only a few hours, and no sleep at all the night before started... glucose tabs/kendal mint cake are the way to go! (certainly NOT chocolate - not nice when you spew it up over yourself and everyone within 6 feet.... who'd have thought 2 squares of dairy milk could make such a stinking awful mess?!?!)

still nothing doing here... with you pops78 hoping to go before due date sunday... at 37 wks mw estimated current weight at 8.5lb, so the sooner the blinkin better!

thinking of you all!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/02/2010 07:52

Well done woowa! Hope it wasn't too traumatic. Amazing names - what's the story?

Anyway, get some rest, if you can x

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/02/2010 08:18

PS Anyone been on the Childbirth thread lately? There's news from Totally and Sharon....

HappySurfWidow · 12/02/2010 09:41

Hi there, Have been faffing around on other threads on MN for a while now without realising I should be on this one (am 39+5)!! Thanks to Inmaculada for showing me the way...

First of all congrats to flyingcloud (who I've crossed on other threads & is a French-living gal, like me) and all the other new mums on here! I look forward to joining you in the snuggling of Feb-born babes!

Secondly, for those in limbo, like me, I sympathise with you and must admit how I didn't understand how hard the final stretch is!! I'm going up the walls!!

BTW, no sign of that happening soon... got achy cramps, infrequent belly-hardenings and the occasional stabbing pain in my bits... but otherwise NADA!

Thick layer of snow on the ground so been banned from venturing out for a walk by DP (sigh!). But may be naughty and furtively waddle to the shop to buy supplies for a friend's party tonight. The theme is "Provocation" so am trying to come up with an outfit suitable for a whale of a woman... Pg schoolgirl? Pg Nun? Any ideas are welcomed!

Thanks and nice to be here!

mawbroon · 12/02/2010 10:06

Careful in the snow HappySurfWidow.

I have had my leg in plaster since breaking my ankle in the snow on 3rd Jan. i wouldn't wish it upon you, that's for sure...

I just phoned the Health in Pregnancy Grant people. They are insisting that my form said due on 27/7 rather than 27/2, so I have to reapply for it. What a faff. Just as well I don't have high blood pressure.....

Nothing to report today. Venturing out to our La Leche League breastfeeding group today with my sister. This week is the baby group, and I usually go to the toddler one (except ds isn't even a toddler any more!!) so it will be nice to see some teeny babies, and remind myself what it's like to feed a newborn.

HappySurfWidow · 12/02/2010 12:09

Yes,mawbroon you are right!! I will stay in and avoid the slippy snow. I skimmed the previous pages of this thread & saw that there were a couple of gals dealing with broken limbs on top of other pg-related miseries... so I appreciate I would be a right fool to jump into the same boat.

I've already had my fair share of luck during this pregnancy, so I would be foolish to tempt fate yet again!!

I will be good and stay home knitting, watching movies, making flapjacks, & monitoring movements on MN of course...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/02/2010 15:07

Welcome Happy! To a France living girl from a Spain living girl - with a mum who lives near Toulouse!

Good luck with the pg, mind you keep us posted with your progress...!

AbsB · 12/02/2010 15:22

CONGRATULATIONS Woowa, hope you are feeling okay... an early birthday present, eh?
What lovely names! Very original... It sounds like you could do with some sleep, here's wishing you a speedy recovery.

Welcome Happysurfwidow, glad to have you on the thread...

I am so, so sick of working now (38 weeks today) and even though I'm working from home, I just want to rest up! One week left of work and I am home free! Hopefully

catinaboot · 12/02/2010 17:06

I'm also due on Sunday with an apparently big baby so can really relate to you stoofadoof and pops78... fingers crossed for both of you.

I'm getting really excited as I start to feel more mobile and capable of looking after a baby, as i'm the other ankle-fracturist!! Although mawbroon you do put me to shame, the highlight of my day is House Gift!

Happy, I think pg nun is funny... although now you need something you can knock together at home!

FluffyCoo · 12/02/2010 17:06

Woowa congratulations! Hope you are recovering well and enjoying your LO x

Welcome along Happysurfwidow, always nice to have a new recruit

It's my due date today, but not so much as a sniff of anything kicking off yet - just feel really tired and uncomfortable! Poor DH is running around doing everything and I'm being rubbish... fingers crossed that something happens soon!

GuernseyFrench · 12/02/2010 17:13

Hi girls,
I've trying reading all the posts since last week but I just can't keep up!

Congratulations to all the new arrivals

I thought I'll give you the short version of Sam arrival:

I used all the painkillers available - I started with TENS then tens+diamorphine then tens+gas & air then epidural.

I had contractions front of the bump and on the lower back area!

Labour officially lasted 22h15 (but from the 1st pessary to delivery it lasted 33h45)

I have been told that if I want another DC I will be able to have a VBAC as I went all the way and the only thing which stopped the natural delivery was the head position.

threeplusone · 12/02/2010 17:27

woowa huge ciongratulations and wisahuing you a speedy recovery..
Welcomehappy

Due sunday. had the hospital today he tried to doa sweep but cervix is still too high... much to my annoyance...lol. Have to go to delivery suite on Sunday for monitering, then back to see the doctor at outpatients on Monday where he will try the sweep again.. he told me not to ask in Delivery as the Germans dont do them. He only does them because he works in the British Outpatients department
I have a vision that the family will just miss the baby... I have tolod them thoguh that iot is out of my control...lol

The doctor did say why would he want to come out in this weather, it is 37degrees in there and all inclusive.. where out here it is -3 on a high at the monment..

chinook good luck hun sounds like you could have a baby by the morning.. I am so BUt I suppose I am not over due yet.

The baby is set to be a 6lb -7lb

Sending happy and good labour thoughts to everyone... xx

bethylou · 12/02/2010 20:38

Welcome Happysurfwidow (I also liek the pregnant nun idea) and congrats to Woowa - hope you will feel stronger and more comfy soon.
I wonder what the weekend has in store for those of us still waiting? How many Valentine's babies will there be? (DH actually said, "Oh, so you are expecting a card then - thought you might not this year!" I pointed out that presenting him with DS2 might mean more need for a Valentine's card, not less!!)

I'm certainly ready for our baby. Keep delaying going to chiropractor (who inconveniently went skiing)or physio re pelvis as thinking that the baby will arrive before the appointment. Now thinking I should just book both anyway!! (Waddles away slowly to find childbirth thread).

Nikki87 · 12/02/2010 20:52

so its my offical due date today, and no signs at all of arrival =[ just feeling so uncomfortable and tired [so i know the feeling fluffycoo] thought at getting some caster oil to see if it does help things along but my chemist doesnt actually stock it 'due to the stigma around PG woman', what about the nonPG people that need it

got an appointment at the hosp on tuesday tho, so will ask for a sweep if not already popped by then [if iv not, then i think it will prob be in the cons best interest if he wants to stay alive.....] god i feel so irritable and restless and tired and ARGH!!!!!

[sorry, just needed a little rant there....]

bethylou · 12/02/2010 21:09

Immaculada - have been surfing the childbirth thread for the news you mentioned above - can you be a bit more specific as I'm struggling to find it?

Did find a very reassuring thread about hypnobirthing though. Was beginning to think that I might have been wasting my time with all the practise but everyone on there reassures me that it is useful. Will wait to give my own appraisal!

Oh god when will this end, sorry to be so selfish, especially as I know there are others further along with still no action but AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I am so frustrated, all the same words as others above have said. Due date is Sun but was originally today and in fact when the sonographer changed it he was saying I looked a week further along but based the new date on an LMP I wasn't even sure of. I am measuring big so can't help wondering..... I just hate the fact that I am convinced I will not go into labour spontaneously, just cannot see it happening, hope I am completely wrong. Sure I won't want the pain when it's here but I actually want pain now so I know I am in labour and finally going to meet this baby.

Shiregirl sounds good news, best of luck.
GF - Congrats and well done, sounds long.

Catinaboot - I have to say I cannot believe that somebody came up with House Gift. Don't deny I have watched it from time to time because its so bad its good but wow are they scraping the barrel eh. Does anyone else think its so odd to have LL Bowen on something like this and then being a judge on popstar to operastar....and what the hell does Alan titchmarsh have to do with opera!!! Oh dear just got seriously side tracked with silly irrelevant rant...I sadly love tv, watch too much of it (at mo especially) and get very caught up. Oh well 2 mins not thinking aaaaah bring on labour is good :-)
