Come in, come in to the new haven for diffed BESHies. I think a group effort is needed here (and I'm being a lazy preggo), so please add to the deli whatever you crave/love/can stomach.

Nominations are also open for sexy fathers we can hijack to serve our mouldy cheese and cured ham

And the best mocktail recipe wins...well, bugger all to be honest

skihorse · 22/01/2010 12:56

cunty that's not "one big surprise" - that's fucking denial!

CurlyCasper · 22/01/2010 12:57

yes, them getting it wrong does freak me about a bit. Saw a birth story type programme where that happened the other day. Mind you, I also saw a supposedly six-week early baby that weighed 10lbs! (US show, in case you had not guessed)

iggypiggy · 22/01/2010 13:03

We are not going to find out... feels 'too organised' to know - not sure if that makes sense?

We have to move house first... so I can't even start thinking about rooms

Cosmosis · 22/01/2010 13:15

They got it wrong for a friend of mine, told her it was a girl. it was not

SKI tgo wants a 4d scan. they're a lot dearer here than over there though, about £190 I think at the screening place here.

CurlyCasper · 22/01/2010 13:17

yes, jealous of ski's 90 euros scan. well over £200 for that sort of thing here

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 22/01/2010 13:36

This is the one thing TSF has proclaimed upon. I'd always assumed I would echo cunty's opinion. To an extent I still do but if TSF had wanted to know I wouldn't have minded too much, I find I have less of an opinion on it all of a sudden. But he's adamant he doesn't want to know.

Actually - perhaps he is also in denial.....

skihorse · 22/01/2010 13:36

Yes I'd heard the prices were hideous in the UK and tbh I expected around 200 euros, then my colleague said 90 incl. this that and the other and of course for us digitial pics are just perfect because it means we can send them out!

CUNextTuesday · 22/01/2010 13:42

Do you get them done at 20 weeks ish? or later on?

skihorse · 22/01/2010 13:49

I think it's really a matter of choice. You can get them done at 20 weeks but apparently it's not as clear and comprehensive as getting them done at a later date. Colleague had hers at 32 weeks I think which showed remarkable restraint - and then he popped out 4 weeks later anyway... We can't wait that long so were thinking 27 or so.

Ponymum · 22/01/2010 14:38

4D scans? Ponyfamily no can afford (especially as we are about to spend £200 on the super dooper mouse extermination 8 week expert programme due the torment I am currently suffering from the little fuckers).

But the scan talk has reminded me that I totally forgot to tell you about my friend who I wrote that article about in the Guardian in December. It turns out the IVF worked and she is now pregnant, with a due date a week before me! So on the other side of the world there is a single 41 year old PESH who miraculously managed to achieve this without a man. It is pretty amazing and we are comparing notes all the time. She just sent me her 20 week 4D scan photo and it looks amazing. (Oddly though, she has mistakenly thought for weeks that I am expecting twins. We eventually figured out that I wrote an email ages ago saying somehting like "we are pregnancy twins!" meaning the two of us, but in her excitement she read it as "we are pregnant with twins!" When I told MrP he was really worried that she knew something we didn't.)

Our 20 week scan is next Thursday. We want to find out the sex but won't be telling - just in case it turns out to be the opposite when it actually makes an appearance, and also because it's nice for everyone to have a surprise.

Ponymum · 22/01/2010 14:47

Oh, and casper you do know they can be born 10 lbs, don't you? Or is this another one of the denial topics on this thread?

I also abhor pinkification. Our nursery scheme is basically clean and white, with plain wooden cot, white bedding, inky blue blinds, and drapy white muslin. The only thing I've spent any money on is a few adorable gender neutral accesories from Mamas & Papas, cot mobile, wall hangings, etc like this. The best cot bumper I found was actually a simple funky dotty one from Ikea.

But as I've said before, you really need the baby sleeping in the same room as you for the first 6 months. See the latest cot death advice. So no rush on the nursery prep (and ski's broom cupboard is safe for a while yet).

CUNextTuesday · 22/01/2010 14:49

Hmm we can get a 4d scan for 160 coins round here. Will speak to Hom - he LOVES that type of gadgeteering but it would mean compromising on knowing the sex. Dilemma.

CurlyCasper · 22/01/2010 15:12

pony I am aware of 10 pounders - but find it hard to believe that was the weight of a six-week prem baby! (think mum might have been telling fibs )

And yes, no rush on nursery prep (need new house) but have missed being arty and have several canvasses awaiting colour. I think painting stuff for baby's room would be a good, relaxed way to occupy myself, rather than slobbing on sofa watching trash, as I have been doing every weekend for weeks. I also acutely aware of the fact that I will have very little time to paint, and few creative juices left, once junior arrives, so best to do it while the urge strikes.

My problem is, when I do art, I do it big. Used to do a lot of set design, so the idea of being given a free hand with something potentially as imaginative as a baby's room is very appealing, if a little dangerous

Gender scan advertised at hospital is £50 at 23 weeks. 2D gender scan at private place we went to in december is £65 with pics, £75 with DVD as well, and can be done from 18 weeks. They claim they've been 100 per cent right over their five years in business.

4D scan packages start at £105 and include sexing, anytime from 22 weeks.

So I guess I was wrong about it being extortionate. A bit of me thinks the £65 private one might be better than the £50 hospital one, having noticed a huge difference in the technology they have.

Hello! Can I join? I was on the original BESH thread, then I stopped posting for a bit (promotion at work).

Got a BFP yesterday and Curly invited me over here.

Congratulations, up-duffed PESH people

CUNextTuesday · 22/01/2010 15:44

Yey! Hi skates (I used to be trigger). We've been talking about you, were your ears burning?

skihorse · 22/01/2010 15:48

Ponymum I am absolutely THRILLED for your friend - what a wonderful, fantastic thing to happen! WEre you able to show her that link in light of her good news? As far as the scans go, if you're passing through this way with 90 euros to spare I'll hook you up! We too are not planning on telling anyone else the sex once we know - but we want to know for ourselves.

10lb babies? I don't think so. I'm led to believe that's a giant myth and it'll actually be approximately the size and shape of a medium courgette. Curly my sister was 10lbs but she was THREE weeks late and my mum had gestational diabetes...

Big congratulations SkaterGrrrrl - you are just a week behind vag who is in complete and utter denial! The rest of us (5 of us?) are due between 20th and 24th July!

Ponymum · 22/01/2010 16:03

And I'm on my own in June I think. Hi skater. ski I am too scared to show her the link. Would be easier if she were here but I hate communication over email etc - don't know how she'd react and would really hate to get it wrong with such a lovely old friend.

casper Didn't realise that was supposed to be 6 weeks prem. Yeah, right. I think she means - "it is really important that my current boyfriend thinks he is the father" or "FGS don't let Mum know this was conceived out of wedlock" version of 6 weeks prem.

CurlyCasper · 22/01/2010 16:15

Yeay! skater is back! we've been speculating as to why you left us. All wild ideas, of course. You might find you (or rather your alias) have messages over on FaceCrack too... Massive congrats on the diffment . The BESHes would be delighted if you deigned to pop over and say a quick hello (we still pester them but try to keep the nasty preggo/childbirth talk over here)

well chuffed for your friend pony. Looks like you need not have worried at all.

cunty when are you due?

My family has a history of lovely 6lb babies and I shall accept nothing more than 6lb 7oz

OP posts:
CUNextTuesday · 22/01/2010 17:11

28th June, although I'm hoping it delays a few days cos I get paid on the last day of the month . Everyone I am related to has a June birthday so v expensive time

cheggers · 22/01/2010 20:09

ooh cunty exactly a month after me.

not that i'm expecting to get that far, as it's normally early with 2. although all quite normal so far, and me cervix is still long and closed. get me

am hoping to go as long as poss though as we are still nowhere near sorted!!!

pony the mamas and papas stuff is gorgeous innit. i had me eye on the stuff with the gingerbread men have you been in the shop though?? we are considering getting some of their furniture but will be buying unseen of t'interweb. would be good to know if it is pretty decent or not.

good luck with the 6lb baby curly - i've heard it is dangerous to rely on what happened to other family members though

i ain't particulary bothered about the birth to be honest. am all booked in for me epidural already. surely after that it's a piece of cake??

my poor sis was telling me that she had her second, there was no anaesthetist available so she had to do it commando, including the stiching up at the end.

how fucking gruesome is that???

on a nicer note - massive congrats to skater and good to see you back again. was wondering how you were getting along with TCC hell

let me pour you a big gay (virtual) cocktail with sparklers and umberellas and shit.

congrats!

cheggers · 22/01/2010 20:17

oh and happy belated birthday to ski

don't forget to pick me up on the way to the alps.

i got some shiny new kit doing nowt, bought last season in an attempt to encourage diff.

it didn't work - but at least i was being proactive and you can't beat lovely shiny new kit

Ponymum · 22/01/2010 22:04

cheggs Yes, there is a Mamas & Papas near us so I have been in. I also like the gingerbread stuff and the first toy we bought for the foal was the patchwork pony. (I forced it on her to ensure she developed a strong and early liking for the gee gees.) There's a photo of her with it on my profile.

I have not bought any furniture from there but it looks nice and seems to have a pretty good reputation. Is there something in particular you need to look at? I could swing by and do some tyre kicking for you and report back.

cheggers · 22/01/2010 23:35

ooh could ya?

it's this stuff: orchard

thanks!

have just had a gander at patchwork pony and your baby - very cute

Cosmosis · 23/01/2010 17:27

Oi ski you fucker, I am due on 20th August, I ain't on of you July sheep

Hello skater and welcome back! congrats on the diffing.
