Crumpette - have been thinking about your DP and wanted to ask you something.

Did you and your DP have any counselling after your lovely DD passed away? The reason I ask is that I am wondering if your DP is going through some kind of post traumatic stress. I am not excusing his behaviour at all, but it really wouldnt surprise me if the impending birth of your bub has triggered a lot of very scary and potentially dark feelings. Feelings and thoughts that he maybe thought he had dealt with?? I cannot even imagine what it must be like to go through what you have both been through.

Would you/ he consider going to a counsellor?

Good luck to Fraoch and salvadory with your labour coming on. Hope that if Fraoch needs to go to Glasgow, that she gets there in good time rather than Londonlottie-style involving helicopters and such like!

It sounds like you are doing all the right things and echoing saz's advice - think the stairs thing is about opening up your pelvis. If you sit / bounce on an exercise ball with your knees below your hips, that should do that too. That said, I struggle to keep my balance or sit for long in that position.

crumpette Can't believe the hassle you got in M&Ps. Not that I shop there often but they tend to be quite efficient in my local branch - not in the biggest hurry to come to the till to clear a queue of customers but I find Mothercare much like that as well. I had a load of hassle from Halfords re the car seat so just shot them off a complaint email this evening. If you don't say anything, they can't do anything about it is my philosophy (can you tell I don't work in Customer Svcs)

Footnote, Bepanthen nappy cream is on offer in Tesco's - £5.12 for the 100ml ointment plus Club Points - yay! Does anyone know how long a 100ml tube lasts?

natapillar · 04/01/2010 23:44

Just caught up a bit after a few days away from PC. Congrats to liny, and am feeling excited to hear news of Froach and Salvadory -it's going to be exciting nearly every day now I should think.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 05/01/2010 08:41

ArtTherapy - I have sent you an email as I live reasonably close to you - probably the closest out of people on this thread anyway. I gave birth on 29 Dec, 9 days early.

sockmonkey · 05/01/2010 09:50

Crikey, everyone seems to be having a pretty cr*ppy time. ((hugs)) to all of you.

Spent all of yesterday vaccing, washing, packing labour bag, sorting baby clothes. Back is aching today because of it, but I feel a bit more prepared.
I'm really hoping for baby to come now. Just had to walk kids to school in the snow, and it almost killed me. I have to do it two more times as well (DS2 is on half days this week).
Is it bad to want baby to come early so I can get out of doing the school run?

salvadory · 05/01/2010 12:59

Hi all, greetings from my hospital bed, the much planned midwife led birth has been cancelled as my hospital policy is to induce 24 hours after waters have broken so I'm sitting wired up to a monitor with a prostaglandin pessary applied. The snow where I am in Manchester was almost knee deep this morning and the journey into the hospital took over an hour, normally takes 5 mins. Next step syntocinon drip hope everyone else is managing to enjoy the snow, looks like fraoch may be in full flow with her labour, good luck!!! I'm not jealous, much.

sazlocks · 05/01/2010 13:04

Hello salvadory good luck with the next stages. Hopefully you will get to meet your baby soon - YAY !

Southwestwhippet · 05/01/2010 13:42

Goodluck salvadory please keep us posted if you can.

somewhathorrified · 05/01/2010 13:44

Hi all, I'm just checking in. I'm still full of cold so no sleep, can't breathe, vomitting if I cough too much etc, etc. But hey ho, it happens. MW came round earlier said that bub was a big boy not what I needed to hear! No signs of anything starting which is good cos don't think I can cope with cold and childbirth at the same time. 39+3 today, pretty sure I'm going to go well over. I'm ok for HB til 40+14 so still got time to get rid of cold and start shagging.

Thinking of you all.

Brasso4 · 05/01/2010 16:07

Good luch Salvadory.. hope everything goes well for you.

sockmonkey · 05/01/2010 16:21

Hope things are going well for Salvadory and Fraosch.

SWH - when I went in with DS1 I had a streaming cold, but after I had him not so much as a sniffle. Very odd. Hope you feel better soon.

Good news here is the boys school closed today at dinnertime and will remain closed till at least thursday. No walking in the snow! (we did go out and build a snowman when we got back though)
Just hoping DH makes it back from work in one piece. Journey normally takes 45 mins, but took him 2 hours to get in this morning, and thats before we had another couple of inches fall.

MissMarjoribanks · 05/01/2010 16:26

Good luck salvadory.

I'm in Manchester too and DH couldn't get the car off the front drive this morning - wheels were just spinning, so he's worked from home today. I went outside to dump the Christmas tree and sank up to my calves - couldn't believe how deep it was. I was hoping to get out of the house today, even for a short walk round the block but it wasn't to be.

flyingma re nappy cream, I personally didn't use much of it at all so each tube lasted ages, I only put it on if DD's nappy area ever started to look sore so if you only use when required it lasts weeks/months. Others may disagree but HTH!

Mama2b5 · 05/01/2010 18:21

Crumpette, i am so sorry for what you an DH has had to deal with and i defo agree some counselling is needed!
If not together then def for you both seperately so feelings can be address and then you can make the right steps to healing!

Sockmonkey - isnt there any lovely mums around the way to offer you some support! i hate the school run and am glad that DH drops DC off and collects them! its at the bottom of a steep hill and getting down is 1 thing getting back up is hell!

Salv - Ahhh i hope all is well with you and that you will be holding LO real soon!

Fraoch - Hope all is well with you.

MK - ermm im going to need the email address for you to let you know when it starts for me, should of taken down details before now to look in he long threads is ermmm long!

Baby shower is on Sat - ermm i have been more hands on then i would of liked and with the amount of people wanting to come we have had to hire somewhere to hold it now so its cost us £180 for 4hrs so not very impressed! ahhhhhhhhhh i would rather cancel but DH is thinking it wrong now if i do!

Also have to plan my DS 5th bday - so not what i want to deal with its on thursday so party has to be done on friday!

CurlyCasper · 05/01/2010 18:52

froachsmum I think we have met briefly on other threads, but have only clicked today that "you are who I think you are" and we are in fact old friends. It's my birthday today, I'm 12 weeks gone and I've just written on your FB wall - you know who I am now, I'm sure. Anyhoo, if you'd rather stay anonymous on here just ignore me. Take care darlin'

And good luck to all you MNers due to give birth shortly

Fibilou · 05/01/2010 20:58

Keeping my fingers crossed I don't go into labour tonight - as my birth in the MLU would be up the khyber as it's very difficult to get to in snow (we've been forecast 16 inches). Don't want to go to the local DGH as it's awful.
DH has just come in on his dinner break and said the roads are white and everyone is driving at 3 mph.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 05/01/2010 21:18

Oooh everyone, there is a really exciting thread on this link.

StellaMel in full blown labour, completely snowed in, living in the Peak District. Midwives were on their way with gas and air via mountain rescue on her last post around 4pm!!!

Fibilou - if you read this thread, you will realise that even if you do go into labour tonight, where there is a will there is a way and all will be well in the end!

Biccy · 05/01/2010 22:01

Thanks CTOFN, that is an exciting thread! Is it really a week since you had Olivia; that's gone by so quickly for me it's scarey...

It's a dilemma isn't it, to stay at home or go to hospital in the snow? I have been planning a HB but said to DP today that if it snowed here (SW) as badly as forecast and I went into labour I'd probably opt for hospital so as not to risk a slow journey to hospital in case of emergency.... then I realised that second babies can come pretty quickly, and would I be better off staying at home rather than risk giving birth in the car on the side of a snowbound road?

All a bit academic, as I am neither in labour, nor snowed in (yet), but has got me perplexed over what would be the best thing to do.

Perhaps walk to the hospital. It's not that far away...

FifiForgot · 05/01/2010 23:13

Well, its snowing here, 3inches since 6pm and the baby has decided that now is a good time to give Mummy a scare.

Have been having pains since this afternoon every 15/20 minutes. It was more regular about 8pm so rushed around in a mad panic packing bags and putting Granny on stand-by.

Of course, now everything has settled down, but I still feel distinctly odd. I'm in 2 minds about ringing the hospital, I REALLY don't want to have to make my way in to be told its nothing, but on the other hand, I don't want to be rushing in awful driving conditions.

I said to my consultant that this baby would arrive in 6ft of snow, but I was joking! Fingers crossed that this isn't it, I'm only 36+3w, would quite like to cook this one for a bit longer. But at least my bags are now packed!

It looks like that nursery will be closed tomorrow, so I'm hoping that DH will also stay at home to keep DD entertained.
