Hi there

I have been on the July thread, but it moves so fast and as I don't have time (or energy being so sleepy), I can't keep up with everyone who is on several times a day! If anyone else wants to join me in a slower thread to share how your pregnancy is developing, feel free!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Did I say that ski? I meant to... or is someone else giving away all my secrets?

It's an Alexander Technique thing which I am an EXPERT in having done 8 weeks of a 10 week introductory course. Ask me anything, I know it all .

So, carefully get down on all fours. Keep your head square to your neck, gently go down onto one knee then lean forward onto your hands and onto the other knee. Make sure you have plenty of space in front of you because you want to look straight down to the floor, not where you're going, to avoid having to lift your head which will strain the neck.

Move your left knee forward 5 inches or so, then your left hand - set it down slowly and slowly put the weight on. Then move your right knee forward followed by your right hand. Don't go too far and keep it really slow. The more movement you do the better - so it's not about getting across the room, it's about how many steps it takes to get there. So, left leg, left hand, right leg, right hand, not crossing over in a diagonal. You should feel a gentle rotation and opening of your lower back, and relief on your pelvis and back.

When you get to the end of the room, don't try to crawl around the corner as it will bend your back, just turn on the spot keeping your body straight.

This is great for good foetal positioning and taking weight off the pelvis, and loosening the lower back where I get a lot of problems. Do it as much as possible, or as much as feels comfortable.

Also sitting on a preggo ball feels fab on a problem pelvis (I watch telly on mine). I alternate between sitting on it and leaning over it. It really helps.

ApuskiDusky · 16/04/2010 13:36

Thanks carrots and ski - I had a go at this last night - it sounds straightforward but I had to concentrate! And I have a birthing ball, so I must blow it up to sit on.

I went to the physio this morning, and she did some manipulation of my hip, which she hopes will loosen it enough to stop it causing problems for the other parts of my pelvis. It does feel a bit better already, so am hoping this will improve things.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 18/04/2010 18:16

I think I'm going to do the same (see a physio I mean) as my pain level is increasing and it's limiting what I can do. I've already been told I can, I just need to arrange it.

Twittle · 20/04/2010 12:07

Hi Everyone...

HollyFP hope you manage to get your flight ok, you mentioned you were off on your hols, fingers crossed the ash cloud will have moved out of your way by then..??

JBroRo I have also started to get some heartburn in the evenings, does this mean we are going to be having babies will full mops of hair I wonder... my DH will be jealous as even at 35 his seems to be thinning a little!!!

Just wondering if anyone else is sometimes not feeling a lot of movement? I seem to panic myself a little I think, I didn't really feel the baby much last night and haven't a great deal this morning either although I did lie in bed v. still and was rewarded with a few ripples across my tummy! As a first timer I know I am worrying unecessarily but for those of you who have done this before, this is normal isn't it... when should I start to see a pattern emerging of baby movements??? I'll probably be complaining in a few weeks that I am being kicked to pieces , actually at the moment I am looking forward to that!

Apuski hope you are feeling better and the physio helped!

Apologies for rather long post - lots to say/ask!!!

HollyFP · 20/04/2010 16:52

Hi Twittle - yes am keeping my fingers crossed that my flight on Sunday is still on...have been looking forward to it for aaaages!

Re movements - I'm at the 'being kicked to pieces' stage now, but i'm sure it's perfectly normal not to feel much too, so don't worry.

I'm starting to have difficulty sleeping - keep waking up in the night to use the loo, and then can't get back to sleep as the bump also wakes up for play time . it also likes kicking my bladder, to the point where i feel the general need to pee even though there's nothing there!

these aren't complaints, just developments

FlowerBee · 20/04/2010 17:19

So glad my baby's not the only antisocial one Holly. Whenever i sit down for a moments rest or lie down at night he wakes up and kicks me to pieces! Also get kicked in the mornings too. Sure this doesn't bode well for sleep patterns later on! Typical!

As for arguining with DH, girls, i am constantly surprising myself with how irritable and hormonal i am with him poor bloke. Wouldn't ever admit to it though .

Feeling knackered. Moving house (brilliant timing) mid-June so doing as much as possible (packing) now i'm at home before i physically can't anymore. Have a feeling baby is going to arrive early at this rate!!

ApuskiDusky · 22/04/2010 19:35

Hi all! Well I've managed to have a dramatic couple of days. I took a tumble down the stairs (wearing slippy summer sandals for the first time), luckily didn't seem to have done any damage, but then over a few hours started to feel uncomfortable over my bump. So I phoned the midwife, she said to go into the labour ward to get checked out. The monitor showed baby was doing fine, but that I was having frequent and regular 'tightenings', so then had to be checked over by the doctor to check I wasn't in premature labour. That was all OK, but they were still a bit worried, and offered to keep me in, but I came home last night under strict instructions to rest.

So today I have been resting, but am still in some discomfort. It's not got any worse, though, so haven't had to go back in as yet. Fingers crossed it is all going to calm down soon.

HollyFP · 23/04/2010 09:54

Apuski hope you're ok - sandals are a death trap! My DH has practically forbidden me to wear mine (apart from my new Birkies!)

Have a good sunny weekend everyone - I'm definitely off to Spain on Sunday

Twittle · 23/04/2010 10:12

Apuski hope things have now settled down, make sure you rest up over the weekend - maybe on a sun lounger with a good book - it's supposed to be a hot one!

HollyFP have a great time in Spain, I was only wondering the other day when the next time would be that I see golden sands and glistening seas (except for in my dreams....)
could be a while I am guessing!

Hope everyone else is well and has a lovely sunny weeekend! I have felt a lot more movement over the past few days so am relaxing more - am actually now finding that my bump is at that size when I am starting to bang into things...... and there is still 13 weeks to go... what an earth will I be like then - am hoping I am still going to be bendy enough to crouch down in the strawberry rows in July - but this is looking like it might be a harder feat than I first imagined !!

HollyFP · 23/04/2010 11:36

ooooh Twittle I LOVE strawberry picking too! but similarly can't imagine doing that unless they're at chest height. Good maternity leave idea

tobago04 · 23/04/2010 12:11

Hi all,
God Apuski hope your ok now,
Hope you have a good holiday Holly am very [envious]
Re movements this one doesn't stop, this morning it had a right old wriggle,it actually hurt a bit with it's elbow sticking right out!
Does anyone else feel like they are on a roller coaster? One minute i'm loving being pregnant and want to treasure every minute as this will probably be our last and the next i just want it over with ,
think it's because it's number 3 and wondering how i'm going to cope,am also a bit stressed about the size of my bump,DH keeps telling me to stop going on about it but it's easy for him to say it's not his body that's going to be stretched to the size of a house

Twittle · 23/04/2010 14:13

tobago this is only my first but some days I also want it to be over with and to have a healthy baby in my arms! Then I remind myself to enjoy the "experience"!! Re. movements I seem to have a wriggler inside who likes tickling me - better than been kicked and punched I suppose! I am sure you will cope fine with 3 don't people say that it is more of a shock going from 1 child to 2, you'll probably find you excel at being a mother of 3! Also on the size of bump although I am not massive I can't imagine getting even bigger which is obviously going to happen with 13 weeks to go, when no doubt however, good I have been the dreaded stretch marks will be bound to kick in!!!

HollyFP I am a serial fruit picker - just love it!!!

skihorse · 24/04/2010 15:05

apuski You poor thing, if it's not one thing - it's another. I really do hope the rest of your pregnancy can remain as stress free as is possible.

tobago/twittle I'm swinging from wanting it all to be over just so I can meet my little man and terrified it'll be over and I'll be a "mother" for real and nothing will ever be the same and I have to try not to kill another human being!

My bump is not too massive and I was able to ride my horse for 15 minutes yesterday - bizarrely it was very easy and felt very natural. I didn't feel off-balance or lumpy in any way - and dare I say it? That saddle with stirrups is undoubtedly the most comfortable thing I've sat on in months! Getting off was pretty easy too because of the not massive bump.

Just been to the garden centre so I can have a quiet hobby for the summer. Am going swimming tomorrow which I'm really looking forward to.

ApuskiDusky · 24/04/2010 21:42

Hi all, thanks for the messages. I think things are calming down a bit, I'm still taking things easy, but I think we're getting there!

HollyFP, have a great holiday, glad you are able to go!

Regarding kicks and all, the hiccups have started now - for the first timers, it feels like a normal but gentle kick, and then you realise they are really regular. It's cute.... for a little while... and then it's annoying when you're trying to sleep. DS1 was a terrible hiccup-er, and then continued as a baby - which is a pain, as he often started hiccuping just as he was drifting off to sleep...

tobago04 · 26/04/2010 19:15

Glad your on the mend Apuski
Bet you get in a good comfortable position on a horse ski
Have decided to embrace my bump and just enjoy it,haven't actually put that much weight on so I'm not going to worry,
hope everyone else is OK

FlowerBee · 26/04/2010 19:25

As for this pregnancy lark, tobago, Twittle and skihorse - i just want my baby. Quite honestly i think pregnancy is overrated - i feel extremely ungaingly, and have enjoyed most pregnancy "symptoms"! I would have been very happy for a stalk to have dropped him off on July 1st!

Not long to go now....10 weeks and counting...

skihorse must admit am very impressed by you horse riding!

Question: Does anyone know what you are supposed to wash newborn baby clothes in? Soapflakes? Hypoallergenic stuff from Boots? Or would a Fairy Non-Bio do the job? Am getting my hospital bag ready and want to wash a few things.

FlowerBee · 26/04/2010 19:27

Also, hope you're doing ok Apuski, must have been very scary.

mrscrocoduck · 27/04/2010 06:52

flowerbee just go for a standard non-bio

mrscrocoduck · 27/04/2010 06:56

twittle just remembered we've got the same due date! Hope all's well with you! When you posted about movements I was having the same stress. Getting clear signals now though!

Had forgotten about the hiccups! Sweet!!!

ApuskiDusky · 27/04/2010 10:53

Hi all. Flowerbee, I have to admit, I didn't wash new stuff last time around - some things were hand-me-downs (and so had been washed a lot!) and the few bits I bought I just didn't get round to doing. I avoid using biological, partly because there is a history of eczema in DH's family.

Have spoken to my midwife today about the Braxton Hicks / tightenings not having gone, I'm due at the doctor tomorrow, and the midwife thinks they may want to sign me off until mat leave starts (2 weeks). But I have so much to do...

tobago04 · 27/04/2010 12:10

A stalk sounds good flowerbee ,i'm going to use fairy non bio as it smells nice
Hope it goes ok at the doctors tomorrow apuski, must be quite worrying,
Can i just ask about SPD,i've started getting a bit of pain/discomfort in my pubic bone,is that what SPD is? If so are you supposed to rest or exercise? Not seeing midwife til next week

Twittle · 27/04/2010 14:46

Apuski Good luck tomorrow at the Doc's - think you may just have to go with the flow on this one?! As long as you and your baby are ok though that's the main thing.

MrsCroc things are good my end thank you - hope they are with you as well?! I am getting lots more movement now (which I am relieved about) and my bump has also grown dramatically over the past couple of weeks, people are actually mentioning the fact that I am looking pregnant now, and so now it all feels like it is really happening especially considering I am almost rolling out of bed in the mornings!!! I am still feeling really well (touch wood) and know that I shouldn't be but I am wishing the next 13 weeks to pass quickly!!! Went to see a friend yesterday who had her little boy 2 weeks ago, I know it sounds silly but I can't believe that I'll have a baby in 13 or so weeks time as well, not sure whether I am excited or frightened - well actually I think I am both!!!

ApuskiDusky · 27/04/2010 15:07

Tobago, SPD is basically pelvic & pubic bone pain. As a rule it's better to rest than exercise, but also might be worthwhile looking into physio provision. They recommend doing physio sooner rather than later as it can stop it getting worse. Here we have a self-referral antenatal physio service so you don't have to go via the midwife. But I went private because my SIL is a maternity physio and recommended someone close by who trains other physios on SPD.

tobago04 · 27/04/2010 16:01

Thanks apuski will try and rest then,it's not that bad really just hurts a bit when i get out of bed or do sudden leg movements,i did check out the mumsnet guide lines and it said to try not to do ironing or hoovering, will show it to DH

FlowerBee · 29/04/2010 14:42

So glad non-bio is ok. Washed a few things now. Was worrying i might have to use freshly extracted unicorn tears or something.....

Hope your are doing ok Apuski might be worth getting a head start on mat leave to get some R and R. Have been having more Braxton Hicks recently (2-4 a day). When they occur it is really disconcerting, i worry about the baby being squished inside! Juiced! Still i'm hoping it'll mean i'll have a shorter labour or something! Take care.

Have decided i'm not buying a cot or pram new so will start trawling ebay shortly. MIL has bought us a moses basket so have something ready! I've heard of newborns being put to bed in drawers! Or that might have been the 1950s! Not sure.
