Carikube · 18/01/2010 18:24

MDM you're sounding very organised!
We were very lucky with dd as we got a lot of stuff handed down which meant that although it wasn't necessarily what we would have chosen, we didn't really care as it was free .

However I am now launching myself in to research on tandem buggies as dd will only be 14 months when this one is born so I really need to get something that I can take them both out in. No idea what we're going to get at all....

Yorky · 18/01/2010 19:29

Racquel - I know exactly where you're coming from with your friend being upset - SIL had mc when I was about 6wks and I felt like everyone ignored my pregnancy over Christmas so as not to upset her

Hollyoaks - v of your DD potty training herself, thought DS was doing so well, when he's at home he is good about going to his potty by himself and pulling his pants and trousers up - but at the children's centre today he had 2 accidents in as many hours.

Forces - lucky you with DH only having 3yrs left in, and at your early section, I got a letter today giving me an 36wk appt for a swab for GBS on April 26th and you'll have your baby by then!!

Sophie - congratulations on one of each, as you're getting bigger and tireder and trying to pack please say if there's anything I can do to help.

ML - look after you, your blood sugar sounds like its all over the place if you're fainting, you need to let the housework go and teach the DC to make you a cup of tea!

Carikube/LuckyM/Tomlin - nappies, we started with Bambino mio as well and used them until DS was about 1, but then the velcro kind of folded in at the waist and made his tummy sore so we got some Lollipop ones and I wouldn't go back now. Also love pop-ins, but a friend gave me some of her pocket nappies and I wasn't keen although she swears by them - there is no perfect nappy, you need to find one that works for you. Neither of mine rolled early, or walked before 1 (DD doesn't without holding furniture at 14months) but they both sat early and were really happy being able to see what was going on, didn't need bumbo much

Angel - fingers crossed for your HB

Sorry to anyone I've missed

kateyjane · 18/01/2010 20:01

Forces Thank you for your information. They did a blood test for liver function on Friday. The consultant said it would be unusual as I didn't have it with my other 3, she also said that it was probably too early (21+5) I hadn't even heard of it and had to google it. I'm hoping it's just a hormone surge! Have never experienced anything like this - didn't know that itching could be such a nightmare!

Forces and Brightred at the fact that you're only 13 and 14 weeks away. I have always been really overdue, so suspect I'll be well into June. Feels like a masive difference.

Angel Really hope they agree to a HB for you.

Hollyoaks Hope you are alright.

Memory Hope your dog is having a better day.

Sorry if I've missed anyone! Take care

LuckyMiller · 18/01/2010 20:02

Thanks to everyone for their nappy advice - starting some proper research now but I'm a learning by doing kinda gal so need to get my hands on some I think.

Also had a slightly irrationally teary weekend (DH working shifts) so can sympathise with everyone else - hope you're all feeling better. Brisk walk down the seafront in the sun certainly helped :-)

Pic of my growing bump now added to photos

pigleychez · 18/01/2010 20:32

Hollyoaks- thinking of your friend and her baby
Well done DD on the potty training!

Brightred- Ive tried to stop buying the naughties now as I found it too easy to just pick away!

Forces- Wow, must be weird to know a date that you get to have your baby.. Not too long now!
Hope the Anti-biotics work.

MDM- I made numerous lists etc with my first. I enjoyed all the researching and kinda miss not having to buy all that again.

Cari- I briefly stuck my head into the world of double buggies. Only ones I found I liked were mega bucks!

Katey- hope you get the itching sorted soon. I get itchy legs the best of times and sometimes scratch so much I make them bleed. Sympathies to you.

miller- lovely bump

Not much to report here. Hoping for an ok night with DD tonight as she wasnt great today. Was sick this morning for no apparent reason, has generally been ok in herself but also not quite right IYKWIM. fingers crossed shes not up all night poorly.

peakyispreggers · 18/01/2010 20:54

Hi everyone,

luckym loving the bump pic- gorgeous! I keep meaning to take one of myself. One of my brothers is an art student, and hes coming up with some kind of documentation of my tummy. Hope it isnt along the plastercast road.

angel hope you get a home birth, my mum had all five of us at home

MDM what have you been recommended? Everything seems to get bad reviews-so confusing! My friend loves her mothercare MY3, said to get the tyres filled with foam at a garage tho to stop punctures. I love the new mamas and papas mylo and urbo, but noone has tried them yet. Would love to be planning more, but uni exams mean i only have time to be obsessive about prams!

brightred I am an unstoppable eating machine. Somehow the fear of getting massive hasnt kicked in yet, and i am still eating cheese and peanut butter. not together. yet.

Raquel When I told a collegue yesterday that I wouldnt be working at the same hospital a him in march due to my mat leave, he said -deadpan- "i thought you were looking chubby". Now our wieght and body shape is open for general comment it seems.

kateyjane must be awful feeling so itchy, your liver is prob fine tho, obs cholestasis gives you itchy palms and soles of feet. Preggers ladies get itchy due to surface blood vessels dilating (progesterone) and the immune system going a bit nuts. Hope the histamines start working.

sophie congrats on the girl and boy!

Anyone else having trouble sleeping? I feel knackered, then just lie there, cant get comfy....my guilty pleasure tv americas next top model is about to start....

xx

itshappenedagain · 18/01/2010 21:33

hello all!

have we now all had 20 week scans? sorry havent been on in a few days and have skim read out of pure laziness due to time constraints.

glad to see you all planning what to buy, so far i have a hat, a changing mat and 2 pairs of soft cotton bottoms for baby. told everyone who didnt now last friday, actually didnt need to announce it as im not usuall y that large a person and just put on a normal top rather than the baggy ones i have bee wearing...hence i became public property as everyone couldt just ask if i was pregnant but had to touch...i was so temped to say me no how rude ive just put on a few pounds, but didnt. luckly this pregnancy i seem to have had it all go onto stomach!

has anyone thought about starting to pack their hospital bag yet? am thinking of starting to collect things to go in it and then shove em in , so i can have them in one place at least...i had a bleed about this time with DS and remember calling my mum after i got off the phone to the delivery suiteasking what i needed to put in an overnight bag, all i mamnaged was pjs and a toothbrush! luckly family were near by so brought all the other things in i needed for me the next day. and also does anyone else have to try and arrange overnight childcare for thier little one when/if they have to go into hospital...am more worried about that and is another reason that i would really really like a home birth, or a t least as little amount of time in hospital as possible. heres hoping!
also has anyone else suddenly got the urge to clean everything in sight...i have so far rearraged the kitchen cupboards, cleared under the stairs and sorted out my bedroom! long may it continue.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 18/01/2010 21:55

Peaky - we have been recommended the Bugaboo Bee. It probably wouldn't suit everyone, but it sounds like it's perfect for what we need. We live in London and are looking for something compact, not too wide (because our hallway has a random narrow section that we will need to negotiate), that lays flat so can be used from birth without a separate carry-cot, that folds easily in once piece (because we'll be flying to Canada for a family wedding when the baby is about 2 months old), that is easily manoeuvrable, and can be used without hassle on public transport and round shops. Apparently the Bee ticks all those boxes, but I'm sure it has its detractors as well as fans. That unfortunately seems to be the case for most pushchairs, as far as I can tell. I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as the perfect pushchair!

No trouble sleeping at all yet, but I've always been a good sleeper! I find I sleep extra well after pregnancy yoga classes.

Have posted some bump pics on my newly-created profile page!

AnAngelWithin · 18/01/2010 22:16

yep lots of lists for baby stuff here!! I sold it all after dc4 in the hope it would stave off the broodiness but it didn't work lol.

I have already ordered my pram though Pick it up 2 weeks today I will still be packing a hospital bag anyway just in case. Even if i get a HB, if anything goes wrong, I still want to be prepared.

Another bit of good news today, dearest FIL announced he is taking early retirement, to help me and see more of the kids he says (though i am sure endless summer days walking the dog and plodding round the garden and allotment also has a lot to do with it!!!) Bless his heart. I know really he is my FIL but he is the closest thing to my own father I could ever wish for. I only have to pick up the phone and he is here. Very often he will ring me up and tell me to get the kettle on and my feet up and he will do the school run for me!!

Hi All,
Just thought I'd peek in and formally introduce myself, I joined Mumsnet last week. I'm 35, DS2 is due 16 May, DS1 is 2.8 years old. It's been great to find this resource as there are lots of questions and comments being made that I've been wondering about myself!

hi all..just a quick post as really not well..felt very poorly on Sunday and DH took me to hospital..baby seemed fine but I had ketones and sugar in my wee and my blood sugar was sky high..kept in overnight with strict instructions to up the insulin..although to be honest on the maternity ward they seemed to have little experience of GD..the registrar wasnt very helpful and I just wanted to go home...yesterday felt faint all day and jittery..then last night despite the insulin..bloods were 13.2..woke up at 4 a,m after turning over in bed and experiencing spinning dizziness..so have been awake ever since..took my bloods this morning and despite having not eaten they are 6.7..Im scared tbh..I feel really dizzy and my vision is blurred..Im going to bleep the diabetic nurse this morning and get some advice

Carikube · 19/01/2010 09:04

ML hope you get the advice you need from the diabetic nurse and that things start to pick up for you

Welcome Rachel!

30ish · 19/01/2010 09:14

Memorylapse hope you are feeling better soon!

I had a bad day yesterday - feeling faint and sick but DH has man flu and kept me awake most of the night on Sunday! He was relagated to the spare room last night and I feel much better today!

Lists here too - I gave a lot of things away after DD! (How silly!)

Everyone I ask seems to have different opinions about pushchairs - we've gone for another Quinny Buzz as I really loved the last one although it has had many bad reviews! I've chosen a red one as with us having our babies at the end of spring/summer, I really didn't want a black or grey one - they can get so hot! The funny things is, last time with DD, when she was 12 months old and we were going on holiday, we bought a bright pink McLaren buggy. She got more use out of that inexpensive one than the pushchair!

newmomma · 19/01/2010 09:17

Hi ladies

Haven't been on in a while - glad to see most scans have gone well and people seem to be feeling better finally. If a little tired!

carikube Let me know if you find any nice double buggies! My gap will be 16 months so I'll have to get rid of my beloved Quinny Buzz and get a double also.

Quite like the look of the iCandy (Pear I think it was) but there didn't seem to be a retailer nearby. Guess I'll just have to travel a bit to go see one.

Anyone interested in a much loved Quinny Buzz 2009 (better breaking system and bearings in the wheels so less buckling) in 'Storm' (hardly used) with Dreami carrycot (brand new still in box) and the XL seat which means you change from the small seat at about 18 months into the larger one which lasts until they outgrow the pushchair... Great with a maxicosi car seat - makes it into a great travel system. OH BUM, I DON'T WANT TO SELL IT..............

memorylapse really hope you're feeling better and the diabetic nurse helps you get things sorted so you feel better soon.

xxx

peakyispreggers · 19/01/2010 09:59

newmomma where are you and how much were you hoping to sell it for? I would be interested

Hobnobfanatic · 19/01/2010 10:04

A quickie to say I'm still alive! Have just skimmed the last page, to catch up on everyone's news.
FOrces - how exciting to have a date! And it's not May! Wow, the countdown begins!
Memory - sorry you're having such a rough time. Really, the end is in sight - the last trimester races by, IIRC.

It's great to hear about shopping lists and planning. I've done nothing. Don't even have a bedroom for the poor baby! It will be in with me for a year, I imagine, anyway, and then we'll move! THe rest of its things will have to squeeze into DD's big bedroom!

It's been busy here. Life is slowly getting abck to normal after the snow - though, even after days of rain, we still have loads of snow and ice lingering around! Have had a couple of scares - fell on the side of the bath, full-on the bump on Fri, and then was in A+E for most of yesterday with a suspected clot in my calf. THey didn't scan me (my GP wanted them to), to eliminate in the end; just said to keep an eye on it and to come in immediately if there are more symptoms. I can't say I was reassured by this! The joys of being pg - and over 35... High-risk everything!

Those with LOs already but no family within easy reach - what are you planning to do when labour starts? It's the only thing that's really been worrying me - what to do with DD while my mum is driving up. I really hope I don't have a long stay in hospital - I need to be home for DD and the menagerie!

Hobnobfanatic · 19/01/2010 11:36

Just seen your post Itshappenedagain - yes, I'm worried about caring for LO while I'm in labour. Anyone got any solutions? LO is schoolage so doesn't have a childminder or anyone she can go to... I'd prefer not to have to ask other mums at school if poss...

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 19/01/2010 13:19

Welcome Rachel

MDM - yeah, there is no perfect pushchair! Ours suits me perfectly and is brilliant, but I can see that it has flaws that would be a nightmare for people in a different situation.

Memorylapse - hope you're OK, have you seen the nurse yet?

Pigley - hope DD is OK, did you have a sleepless night in the end?

Angel - your FIL sounds lovely!

LuckyMiller - nice bump!

Can't believe all the people who only have 13/14 weeks to go, that's a bit scary! We seem to be hurtling towards May ever so quickly

sweetkitty · 19/01/2010 13:58

I would have to agree there is no such thing as a perfect pushchair, I think you have to find one that best suits your lifestyle. I think a lot of people start of with a travel type system like a M&P Pilko as they like the baby lying flat in a carrycot then think it will be fine once it is in a buggy but find that the buggy side is too large so opt for an umbrella stroller for the car boot or hopping on and off of buses.

We are looking at another double, this will be double no 4 or pushchair no 10 I think I sold my P&T about 3 months before we decided to have no 4! At the moment I have a M&P Lunamix and a Maclaren Techno XT, the XT is a fab buggy, it's from birth as well so will lie flat. I don't know whether to sell the Lunamix or keep it and buy a carrycot for out the garden.

Childcare is an issue for us as well, especially having 3 other DC, what we did last time was I had a HB but once I was in labour we had a friend on standby who came in the middle of the night just to be there in case I needed to go to hospital or one of the others woke up, she was local so here quite quick, SIL was also on call but is about 45 mins away, she got here with about 20 mins to spare. It really worries me as DP works an hour away and also if it's during the day the DDs will be about and I am so fast I get no warning. Worst case would be I go into labour DP is at work and I am here with the DDs.

Still getting over the boy shock don't think it has sunk in yet, we are completely stumped for a name too.

I have nothing bought yet either, with my first I went mad after the 20 week scan but I suppose I have a lot of things this time as it is.

Hobnob - sounds like you have had a scary time

Forces - am jealous of you and others with a date already, it will go so fast for us I mean January is nearing the end already, then it's Feb, Mar and April not long ladies

memorylapse - sorry you are feeling so rough, hope you get better soon with the insulin etc

Rachel - welcome to our little gang

kateyjane - ouch on the itching front, I only have heartburn and the dreaded SPD can't imagine itching as well

loulou20 · 19/01/2010 15:52

Hi All, I have never written on anything like this and have so much i want to find out about. i am 22+6 so due May 19th. This is my first baby and haven't had alot of help where I am as have only had one midwife appointment. my next appointment is next monday. I was further along when i had my scan hence why i have only had on midwife appointment.

Im very excited about this baby and can't wait for baba to come.

Im currently looking at antenatal classes and have no idea where to begin. I was told to go to one tonight and so went to the place where it was supposed to be held to ask for information and they have told me it is being held somewhere else and don't have any info on it.....so now im abit lost.

Has anyone booked a class yet or have had a class yet...i don't even know if its too early but was told to book now as they book up fast.

Baba has been moving around since around 17 weeks and i love the feeling, i always end up stopping what im doing and smile.

Hope you are all well

Carikube · 19/01/2010 16:25

Welcome Loulou and congratulations on your pregnancy. As for antenatal classes, a lot depends on who you want to do them with. If you're interested in NCT classes, I'd get on with booking them asap as they do get booked up early.

As for those worrying about what to do with dcs whilst in labour, I'm in the same situation. We could ask MIL to come and stay from a few days before my due date so she can look after dd but I really don't think that would do my blood pressure any good (and DH isn't too keen on the idea). However it would take her the best part of 2 hours to get here so couldn't rely on her to get here in time. All my friends from antenatal with dcs the same age will be back at work so can't guarantee they'll be around. So I don't really know what we're going to do....

peakyispreggers · 19/01/2010 16:44

Hi loulou! we have classes booked with the NCT, just went on the website and put in my due date, they sent me the details of the class in my area by post. Am thinking of doing a pregnancy yoga course with lazy daisies too!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 19/01/2010 17:00

Hi Loulou and welcome!

We've booked NCT classes too, and they start in about 4 weeks' time. I haven't decided yet whether to do the NHS ones as well. Maybe one of the second / third / fourth timers can give some guidance / recommendations on whether it is necessary to both, or whether they both cover exactly the same ground?

AnAngelWithin · 19/01/2010 18:43

hi all. Been baby shopping today Had loads of vouchers left for various places. Got a nappy wrapper thing from argos for next to nothing, even though i will be using washables, i daresay there will be times i run out and have to use them, plus dh hates washables so its more for his benefit.
Bought an avent steriliser rediced to £26 in tescos from £40, then used clubcard vouchers of £13 to make it cheaper again Also bought 2 towels and faceclothes reduced in dunelms, not proper baby ones with hoods etc on, but for £4.20 for 2 towels and 2 facecloths, i wasn't complaining! Plus they can be used after as well.

Newmomma how much did you want for the car seat? I am looking for one to fit on my quinny chassis, even though I have got a beautiful silver cross pram, when we all go out together on the odd occasion, boot space will be limited so i will use the car seat on the zapp chassis.
