Evening all!

Ses - re Zachs signing, we have been going to "tiny talk" since he was about 6 months. TBH, if you know the signs (you tube) then you could def just teach them at home without the class. The class is just the meidum in which I learn them and he gets to engage with song and play - its more for socialising etc. For example, milk is hardly ever used in the class, but one I regularly sign at home - and that was his first one.

O sounds like he is coping with nursery fine. oh and Ester is my cousins daughters name and she is so beautiful (shes nearly 5)

Hi Diege, glad London went ok. I will def keep you updated with the doctorate. I am getting very impatient to know!!

Hi NJ, glad your weekend was good

Hi Kayz, Cant, Rugby, Ginger, Tink, MMM, anyone else I missed.

gingerbreadlatte · 04/02/2010 08:13

Morning all
Very quick message before the office fills up.

Diege- glad the trip went well. Hope you enjoyed staying in hotel.. I used to do that all week every week and hated it but now I'd rather enjoy an evening of room service, sleep and control of the remote!

Gruff- I've got everything crossed for you for the doctorate... hope that you hear soon. Sorry to hear that GC has been poorly but great news on the signing. We havent done that but there are noises that SG makes that defiantely mean food, milk, water that we can understand.. but its not as good as signing.

Ses- glad the nursery went well, sounds like he is doing just fine. Sorry to hear you gave Norovirus to your parents... its amazingly infectious. Lots of my NCT friends have had it too..

Like the names being suggested on here. I have my boy name in case we have a boy next but no more girls names yet... Although- it was the name I was planning for the SG since I really thought she was a boy... is it wrong to use it on another child?

NOT that we are TTC yet.. I was sooo broody but now im back at work I've really got that in check. However one of my NCT grp is already pregnant and another has stopped using contraception so we definately have some keen ones in the group

Star- how are you feeling today? Hope spreadies are doing your head in too much. have similar thing here

Rugby- how is bottle thing going? We had similar problem. SG took bottles just fine then we stopped for a bit. When we needed to get her taking them again (I was going to spa, so not as important as your teeth! ) she wasnt having any of it.

I think a tip from Star was to make the milk really warm and then keep trying. I found I had more success than DH who wasnt patient enough with it and I think SG picked up on his frustration. In the end I offered her 1 or 2 ozs via bottle at least once a day, every day leading up to Spa Day and she did take it just fine in the end. Think they like to make their point sometimes.
I found the closer to nature bottles the best but everyone is different.

Hi everyone else

Question about moving off bottles. How did you get your DCs to take milk from a cup rather than a bottle. I?d really like to get the SG doing this sooner rather than later but she doesn?t seem interested in milk from cup (but has drunk water independently from a cup since 5months).
I am keen to do this as when I stop doing the morning and bedtime breastfeeds I don?t want to go to bottles for these, but straight to a cup.
Any tips would be appreciated

Better go as office is getting busier.

gingerbreadlatte · 04/02/2010 08:15

so much for quick message

maxxymoosmummy · 04/02/2010 09:29

sorry GINGER i dont really have any tips on getting her used to a cup rather than a bottle, but maybe the same as how u introduced a bottle? could you do the same with a cup? i was very fortunate, that at around 5 - 6 month (maybe earlier as it was a while ago) i started DS havin milk from a cup, and thats what hes been on ever since for both.
about the name ... i dont think its wrong to want to have the same name for a boy, im kinda in the same situation bit not if you get me. i was expecting a girl so knew my DS as millie-rose, and now i have a boy obviouslt he couldnt be called that. so i wouldnt be able to call another baby if a girl millie-rose as its what i caleld my DS from my 20 week scan - i had him.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 09:32

GBL- just keep trying with the milk in a cup, use the same sort of cups that she already uses for water and she'll soon get the hang of it, also start with warmed milk (if your not already) then you can start making it cooler for ease if your out/she's having it at nursery etc.

We've had Oliver as our boys name since having DS, (ie if either DD had been a DS they'd have been called it) we knew we 'wanted' another boy as we had the perfect name... for us it's girls names that we've find so hard to agree on!! DH likes names like Jessica etc, which i just dont feel sounds right... and he doesn't normally like my suggestions like Poppy, Maisy etc. The fact that we can agree on a boys and a girls name means i really am 100% not bothered by what i'd want as a 4th DC... there's good reasons for having another of either so we'll be fine whatever we were given!!

Though we got some poretty bad news yesterday which will defo put any TTc on hold... We need to fix the dining room floor- might be a full timbers replacement and floorboards, or if it's so bad it might be easier and cheaper to just concreete it all... that means at least 6mths saving before we can afford to have it done, then delays plasering and decorating before it becomes our living room... so may mean i either aim to have it finished by time i gave birth, or waiting till it's done to start TTC... but it's most likely that we'll have to sort the flooring out first as while PG we'll need to save for and buy a new car... we'd be able to do it if DH got 2 bonuses between getting PG and giving birth, but we can't guarantee he'll get them...

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 09:42

I have no idea what we would call a girl. I know her middle name will be Jean as it is a family tradition.

I like Evelyn and Ottilie. But DH doesn't.

tinksbabyis1 · 04/02/2010 09:51

morning

mm - hope u feel better soon
oh no for straighteners!! clever boy

hi cant - shame about flooring

ses - good shopping girl after my own heart

ginger i have same prob tried to get bracken to drink her milk from a cup a while ago with no luck may try again soon

have just been to see dd1s scool teacher went really well she has acheived lots
got better
her reading ability is on par with years1 &2 she is in reception

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 09:52

I like names like that Kay but they dont go with our surname. I also love Nina which is MIL's name, But again doesn't go with our surname, and my mum would be offended if we used it and didn't use her name!!

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 09:57

I really like quite poncey names for girls. but they will probably sound strange with the boys names.

Diege · 04/02/2010 09:59

Morning! Oh no CANT, what a pain about the floor. But if you have 8 years to wait anyway before ttc you should be just fine . Love your name choices for dds btw
Re: bottle to cup (GINGER?)the dds have just taken one straight away, no probs, from about 4/6 mths. Ds however just can't get the hang of them and chomps down on the mouthpiece without sucking (he likes the squeeky noise )So I've bought a bottle that has handles, a teat, and a mouthpiece and he has his water and juice in that (still at teat stage). When he gets the hang of the mouthpiece, I'll start putting his milk in it too. TBH I was obsessed with cups (had about 10 of them - hand on heart) with dd1, but was far more relaxed with the others!
MMM bad luck about the straighteners Maybe look out for some on e-bay?
SES, great afternoon! It's amzing how much we can pack into a few child-free hours
Well I'm just tipping my toe in the broody pond at the moment. Pretty happy with 4, and can't see that changing, though as from on here, it's funny how 'def my last baby' can change all too easily
Right, better go and check on ds - his cough is awful and has been up most of the night. I think it's really hurting him as he lets out a pitiful 'Owwww!' after each bout

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 10:19

Haha- Diege- I originally joined the wagon as a surrogate ttc- def didn't want a DC3 at that time... now look at me- the second time I've said 'no way am I having any more' and have changed my mind!! Name choices are longingly still there because DH said no 1st and 2nd time round for DD's... and of my names he's only liking Daisy- so seems thats our choice...

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 10:33

DH has just rung a company that does the same sort of work that he has done before. They are sending him an application form.

Fingers crossed that he gets the job.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 10:42

fingers and toes crossed here!!

Diege · 04/02/2010 11:13

Ooh good luck KAYZ! Trying to mark exam scripts, but I'd forgotten how hard it is with a baby! With dd3 off, I can just stick on a dvd but ds is more demanding... Need to get them in post by this afternoon, so praying for a 2 hour nap!
Off to collect dd1's new glasses this afternoon (she's gone for 'vampire' black frames; quite trendy but a bit old for her I think...still, it was that or Barbie/Simpsons (her old pairs)so no chance!

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 12:24

My Dad has just rung. His eye(can't remember which one know) has been hurting so he went to the GP yesterday who did a test for glaucoma and it isn't that. But he has been rushed through to see the eye specialist this afternoon as an emergency patient.

I am really worried now.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 12:32

oh dear Kay- hope he's ok and it's nothing too serious.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 13:11

wow- i had some bits listed on ebay, mainly DC's clothes had a little next bundle and it just sold for £31!! Thats more than i expected to get for the whole lot of them!!

Diege · 04/02/2010 13:52

Hope your dad's ok KAYZ. My dad had something similar a few years ago - had to have a minor op - but fine now. Hopefully you'll get some news back today.
CANT, you have insoired me to get going on e-bay. Put off by a truly horrible buyer of ds's coat, but the money would come in handy!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 14:04

well i've decided to sell DD2's clothes as they are spring/summer items and i have no clue if i'll have another girls and even if i do what time of year i'd be having a babym i can't be doing with having it all sat around for a couple of years before i have DC4... I've currently made £43.01 on 2 of her bundles of 3-6m clothes (one being the next lot) have also sold a pair of DKNY jeans that were bought for DS for xmas but were too small on is waist, they sold for £11... have another 2 itmes ending today. both of which also have bids and plenty of watchers. I'm inspired myself so going to clear out even more and get selling- it'll all help towards re-doing the dining room floor.

What happened with ebay and DS's coat Diege?

Diege · 04/02/2010 14:23

Well I sold his teddy all in one (this year's boden) on a BIN. I always ask for instant payment on BINS (based on past experiences) and buyer was pissed off because I sent it out 2 days after sahe'd paid for it. I had specified on listing I send out within 4 working days, working and all, so well within my times, but she was very cross that it hadn't 'been sent out on the day it was paid for' . I replied that I had clearly stated the despatch times on listing and that she should have contacted me previous to buying it if she had wanted it for a specific date, and I would have done my best. To which she said I was being extremely patronising . I've sold for years on e-bay, and this is only the second time I've had a nutter, so not too bad! No feedback left as yet though...

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 14:25

she sounds like a bitch!! I remember you buying that all-in-one as you showed it us on here... Some of these Boden ebay buyers sound horrid- just seen a post about a horrid boyer of a boden cardigain asking for a refund on postage difference!! the cheek of it!!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/02/2010 17:23

Diege- it defo looks like people are buying on ebay now, i have made £65 on just a few things that i only expected £20-30 for the lot!! I still have more clothes to sell, and am going to have a clear-out in DD1 & DS's wardrobes- god knows we could do with the extra money to pay for this flooring to be done!!

Diege · 04/02/2010 17:29

Thanks CANT You know you'll have your floor money before you know it, and then you'll have to christen it, and then...wait for the honk

NatalieJane · 05/02/2010 07:44

Tut! Diege, can always count on you for the grotty little one liners... oh but we love it

Good morning everyone

Bloody hell, yesterday, DH went back to work, so it was my first day 'back on the job', am so pleased it's Friday and DH is only working tomorrow morning, I am cream crackered, eyes stinging, dropping off whenever I sit down for longer than 30 seconds, and yet can't get to sleep at night, fell asleep down here around 10-ish last night, DH sent me up to bed, didn't get to sleep till gone 2am

Kay I'm with you on the poncey names for girls, they're are just so pretty, although I also like the poncey names for boys, DH wouldn't let me use any though. Hope your Dad is OK? And fingers crossed for the job

Can't sound's like things are shifting on eBay, sorry about your floor (though was nearly worth it to hear Diege get her mucky mouth on )

Am in a bit of a weird area of broodiness, if I were to actually get pregnant, we'd be in the same place as last week, so really don't want to be pregnant at all, and I still haven't felt any guilt over the whole t thing and then it all being over, which strikes me that that mean's it was the very best outcome. And maybe it is just hormones at work and it really isn't going to lead to a DC4 for us but, I have decided I would quite like a DC4 (I like a new smilie!) and if you can make any sense of all of that at all, you deserve a medal, and can you explain it to me please?!

Right am late now, knew I shouldn't have come on here! Will be back at a time when DS1 shouldn't be eating his breakfast!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 05/02/2010 08:21

Nat- thats how i was when i realised i wanted a DC4... and it's grown and grown.... just found out DH's worry is that it'd be longer before i was working, and that's his worry on the finances... that the kids will be older and want more and we'd still only be on one wage... so if i was to work part time it'd help things on the baby front.... I think i'm winning!!

right best dash- gotta do mine and DD1's hair, brush teeth and coats and shoes on in 9mins!! oops!!
