Diege!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not much has happened. We've all been busy with Xmas. I am stupidly broody, Cant and Lightening both felt slightly broody, Ses has a poorly doggy, Moos has a baby!!!! Not sure what else is going on. GYo is now Gingerbreadlatte and IDOB is Rugby.

FollowingYonderSTAR · 04/01/2010 21:19

Yay Diege - was just thinking again today how we have missed you on wagon. Sorry for being back at work - I'm back on Mon. Think Kayz has done a good summary - December was pretty quiet due to Christmas. Kayz forgot to mention her DS2 turned 1, as did Lightning's DS3, so we had our last wagon baby (for now) and two 1st birthdays in same month!
Lots of poorlies it seems (probably the weather). Hope 1st day back went well.
GBL - hope your 1st day back went well.
DD & DS have first settling in session at nursery tomorrow pm. DS is quite excited about it. They both have session Weds pm too and then on Friday they are there all morning and for lunch... DH is on a late, so we get a morning to ourselves 1st time since our date the week before DD was born (DS was at childminder that day).
Am feeling very nervous about leaving DD and DS, think it is because a) I now realise how much they will grow while I'm at work and b) DS tells me he doesn't want me to go back to work (while being excited about going to nursery ), ah well, am sure it will do them good to socialise with others for 3.5 days per week. And, they get to have a morning with DH on their own, which will be fun for them all as well I think?! Am feelign slightly more positive towards work today, as one of the people I will be working with has texted to tell me not to rush in on first day and to get there for about 10 - which is lovely!! My manager is still on hols on Mon, so this is someone else I'll be working closely with and who my first meeting is with, so means I will be able to drop DD and DS off at nursery with DH that day and then head into work - yay!

Right, long very me, me, me post from me!
Must get on with ironing now - have a to do list as long as my arm for this week, managed to get DS hair cut today, but need to get both measured for shoes this week, along with all the cleaning of house needed to be done....

Oh, forgot to say - DD decided to learn to climb stairs week before Christmas. She did it with me following on the Sunday, then on the Monday I went out to de-ice car, leaving DC in house. Suddenly remembered had not shut bottom stair gate - ran back in, expecting DD to be at bottom of stairs screaming, but instead DS was shouting from top "Mummy, Mummy, DD climbed stairs all on her own and I shut the top stair gate behind her!" - [very bad Mummy emoticon] and [very relieved that I have such a fab DS emoticon]!! She is also walking along behind her pushalong trolley of bricks - she's only 9.5 months for goodness sake. So, although I said I would not buy her any shoes until she's walking, as she's going to nursery and it's winter, I feel I ought to go and get her a pair for cruising round nursery - is that wrong?!

Sorry for very long post

FollowingYonderSTAR · 04/01/2010 21:44

Moosy - meant to say, sorry for DD3 needing top-up, but as everyone has said on FB, is really not the end of bfing. It's great that she feeds happily from you and then just takes a couple of ozs topup - shows she is happy with booby, just needs a little extra. Is possible to have a happy medium and you have done, what 4 weeks now of just bf - is enough to get it established I'm sure. Am also sure that it is brilliant to get that far with 2 other LOs to run around after. Cut yourself some slack lady - you are a fab Mum and should be proud of the 3 beeee-you-tiful girlies you have produced. Any bfing you manage is fab and if you continue mixed feeding yay, if you go to bottles no probs and you may even manage to get back up to full bfing again if that is what you and DD3 both want!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 04/01/2010 22:52

Happy New Year everyone!

Moosy - huge congratulations on your new arrival! So sorry I missed it! Don't beat yourself about the formula, although, if you don't want to do it, could you go back to three hourly feeding with her?

Think i might finally have a chance to get back into the land of the wagon, but evenings only.

DS2 is now 10 weeks old and I've just started trying to get him into some kind of bedtime routine - I've been putting him in his crib in our room at about 7.45 ish, depending on how long its taken to get him and DS1 through the bath - and he's going to sleep in the cot, not on the boob (). He wakes around (oops, er, now!) 10.30 - 11.0 for a feed, then sleeps till around 6.15!

Totally not expecting this to last, it was nothing like this with DS1, he was a nightmare to get into the cot... Fingers crossed it stays the same.

Anyway, whilst it may all sound a bit cocky, today is only the third day so its hardly well established.

BF is settling down, I got the BF 'expert' from the health visiting team out just before Christmas as he was making me very sore, but that's improved now. Now I need to tackle the issue (if its even classed as that?) of him gulping loads of air all the time when he's feeding. He's piling on the weight still though - haven't had him weighed for a few weeks, but he's been between the 75th and 91st centile since birth, despite being in intensive care for the first week.

for all those of you who've gone back to work - people keep asking me what I'm going to do re going back to work, and the longer I'm off, the less I want to work. Don't really know how I'd have time to be honest, I always seem to be very busy!

DS1's potty training is an absolute disaster - he goes through phases of 'getting it' but quite frankly I'm ready to give up. Nursery suggested it before Christmas but we wanted to keep going for a bit, but I'm ready to throw in the towel now. He's so not interested at all. I'm just hoping that at some point he's going to want to do it, because I know he can - its just that he won't.

I can hear DH disturbing DS2 (courtesy of the listener) so I'd better go before he really does wake him up, he feeds better when still drowsy for some reason.

So sorry for being AWOL for so long - look forward to catching up a bit...

Love to all, STT and co x

Moosy · 05/01/2010 02:29

Good to hear from you stt, glad things are getting easier for you and I hope ds gets the potty training soon!

I think the topping up is unavoidable tbh, I've beenfeeding her so frequently already, every hour at times (and for 3.5 hours in the night last night!). She seems to appreciate it though, she's settling between feeds and seems happier /

Good to hear from you too diege! Your new house sounds great, look forward to more updates soon!

GruffaloSoldier · 05/01/2010 20:14

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year!

Welcome back Diege

I have been away for a bit too, just far too much going on, but have tried to lurk where possible. Going to have a catch up now which might take a while so thought I would say hello now!

Just been watching the snow.Has been snowing non stop since 6pm and is still going. It covered so quickly, it was amazing. I am so excited - although I will be disappointed if we dont get the promised 30cm!

Right off to read up now!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 05/01/2010 20:28

Moosy, that's good that she seems happier, and its so lovely when they're dopey and happy with a full tummy - it must be a real relief not to be worrying about weight gain too.

Tonight DS fell asleep during his breast feed, so I've popped him in his cot, and crept downstairs, the listener is beside me, (well, the other side of the sweety bowl of course!) and holby is on the telly.

DS1 is also fast asleep, so all in all, not a bad evening. I even managed to get us eating dinner by 7.05, its getting earlier, but its not easy! I've no clue what I'm supposed to cook that's healthy, everyone likes and only takes a few minutes to finish off when DH walks through the door.

Tonight we had cottage pie - mum had made and frozen the meat filling so I defrosted that today, made the mash mid afternoon whilst DS1 was chilling in front of the telly (in a cardboard box car I made him!) and DS2 was sleeping - so all I had to do was nuke the broccoli and sweetcorn when DH got home, and somehow, that seemed to take ages. I think I need to look up some 'one pot' recipes. Stew from now until forever!

Today was a bit of a weird one, DS was home again, only my second day with both DS. Today was loads better than yesterday though, I think perhaps yesterday was a big boundary finding exercise for DS1, as today he didn't push at all.

Also, he had a poo accident this morning, so I offered him some pullups, and he burst into tears and said he was a big boy and wanted big boy pants. I said he could do that, but I needed him to try really hard to use the toilet. So he did. I set the alarm on my phone for every 45 mins, or snoozed it if he didn't go, and we've not had any accidents since - he even announced at one point that he needed the loo and took himself... so we may be back on track.

He's going to pre-school tomorrow (weds to fri) for a short day (7.30 - 2) so we'll see what that does to the training!

Right, off to think about some one pot recipes and finish off my tesco shop - speak soon! x

maxxymoosmummy · 05/01/2010 20:57

STT - thats great that he seems to be on track hope he keeps it up. and hope he enjoys pre-school too.
ive had a bit of a busy day. as with the snow its just so much effort getting dressed and out with the pram. but i had to go out as needed few bits of food etc. the streets were soo icy and awful. just hope the ice clears up. but if anything i think its going to get worse
think DS is teething again so hes a little grumpy tonight, just hope he doent have a disturbed night from now as ive just given him some calpol and teething gel to ease it for the night.
managed to get xmas decs down and away so i didnt have to worry bout it tomoro. hope everyone is well.

Rugbylovingmum · 05/01/2010 21:54

Hi all,

STT - good for DS1 trying hard with the potty training. Fingers crossed he is back on track. It sounds like DS2 is doing really well too - I am a bit with the sleep as DD was doing really well but has nw gone a bit off track.

Moosy - sorry you are having weight worries with DD3 but it's great that she has taken well to the bottle and is happier with the mixed feeding.

Gruff - hi, hope you had a great hol. How can you want more snow , I'm feeling really bah humbug as it's such hard work pushing the pram through the snow and I'm to scared of falling to use the carrier.

MMM - poor DS with his sore gums!

Star - hope your first couple of days at work have gone well.

Diege - hi! How did the move go?

Hello Tink, Kayz

Well I'm going to have a little whinge I'm afraid. DD has always been a great sleeper - she went down for naps no problem and slept for 1.5-2 hours then had a good feed and played for 1-1.5 hours before napping again. She slept well at night too - she had been sleeping from 9 or 10 till 7 with only 1 or 2 feeds. Over xmas she slept happily in a cot and travelcot as we couldn't fit the moses basket in the car. IT HAS ALL GONE WRONG ! Last week she seemed to hit another growth spurt and was feeding all the time, waking a lot at night and was very fussy and grumpy during the day. This week the feeding has calmed down but the sleeping is still awful. She screams whenever we put her in her pram to sleep, takes ages to settle and wakes up after an hour screaming and won't settle back down. She has been really grumpy during the day and crying much more than usual. At the end of feeds she is dragging her head away without letting go first - ouch! - then she tries to latch again and pulls away again but then cries when I move her away and wind her. At her bedtime feed (lying on bed) she is doing that at the start of the feed too and I have to rock her to calm her enough to feed. Then at night she is waking every 2-3 hours (to be fair she never really got out of the 3 hour habit after her 6 week growth spurt) but after some feeds she screams for 20mins instead of going back to sleep as usual or she lies awake for a couple of hours just whinging on and off. I have no idea what has changed - or maybe I have too many ideas. Is she grumpy because she is tired, does she need to sleep less now she is a bit older and getting bored, are we getting her into bad habits so she needs us to help her fall asleep, is it the antibiotics I am on, is she teething (my mum and the swim teacher think she is teething as she is drooling, chewing her hand and pushing her fist against her cheek and ear as though they hurt but I can't feel hard lumps under her gums, they drool and chew at this age anyway and she only puts her fist to her face when she is tired so I'm not convinced). - if anyone has any advice it would be very welcome. I think she is grumpy because she is overtired so today whenever she woke after only an hour I just left her in bed and patted her until she went back to sleep. This morning it took 40 mins and felt like a waste of time but for the rest of the day it only took 10min and she did sleep for a second hour at each nap so she has had loads of sleep. She seemed less grumpy but still took ages to settle for bed so I'll just have to see how it goes.

Sorry for the long waffle - I'm just confused and very tired.

Moosy · 05/01/2010 22:18

If she's having a growth spurt that might explain her fussiness with feeding, she might be frustrated that the milk's not coming out fast enough for her, if it is a growth spurt then it should settle down in a few days. Can you feed her really really often and see if that helps her?

I do the same as you and try to work out why she does everything (control freak? Me?!) but I've now come to realise that babies don't always have a reason for what they do, sometimes it's just a matter of riding it out and hoping things settle down again. I hope so anyway

Rugbylovingmum · 05/01/2010 22:27

Cheers Moosy - I am was feeding her loads last week but this week she doesn't want to feed as often. It's strange that it's at the end of a feed. I'm sure she isn't still hungry as she won't take anything from the other side. She has just woken again, crying really loudly (I worry it's a 'sore' cry but that might just be because people have put the teething idea in my head so I'm half-convinced she is in pain and I'm being crap and not noticing) and wouldn't settle until I fed her. She was fed just 2.5 hours ago and didn't take much of a feed so I'm sure it's just comfort but she has never fed to sleep before. I give up, I'm going to bed, goodnight!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 06/01/2010 09:57

Morning, i'm not too good. Migrane yet again. To make things worse also have D&V and a really badly bloated tummy. Also started on the pill 3 weeks ago and have been bleeding for all that time too- think i'm gonna come off it as i'm not happy...

Thought the pill might make my periods more regular again. But just causing more hassle than its worth.

Anyhow DD is cutting her first tooth/teeth... the front bottom pair are sat right under her gums, i know they're gonna just come thru any day now!!

Right best go- DS and DD1 are trying to get shoes on wanting to go out in the snow and i'm gonna have to talk them out of it as really can't!!

tink2010 · 06/01/2010 11:33

oh no poor u cant hope u feel better soon!!!

we have 6 inches here have been out most of the morning
dd1 loves it have built a mass snowman
dd1 off school dh off work

Kayzr · 06/01/2010 12:17

Hello,

Cant, hope you feel better soon. You could see your GP about a different pill. I've been on mine for 7 years(apart from having boys) and never had a problem.

Just got back from taking DS2 for his jabs. The snow is so blooming annoying. Taking DS1 to clinic tomorrow as MIL keeps complaining that he is too skinny. I must look like a neurotic mother but she just keeps finding things wrong with my children.

I am also stupidly excited. I have got tickets to Most Haunted Live next week. It's near my Dads house so I'm going with my dad and brother. DH and the boys are having a boys couple of days and watching boy movies.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 06/01/2010 14:08

TBH Kayz i think i'm just gonna come off it till i stop BF then go back on the one i normally have. I've had to go on the mini-pill because of BFing still... so dont know if it's just this one.

FollowingYonderSTAR · 06/01/2010 14:28

Hi All - lots of snow here and still snowing on and off. Means DH is off work - yay!!!!
Went out this morning while DD had her nap. Bad news is it means nursery is closed, so DD and DS not getting their settling in session - really stressing me out

I'm not back at work 'til Monday, so hoping snow clears by then [selfish emoticon]

Rugby - it could be teething. DD started doing the pulling thing, she wasn't actually cutting teeth, they were just moving round in her gums getting ready (I think). Someone on here (Bumps maybe?) suggested putting teething gel or powders on before a feed as apparently the sucking can cause their gums to be even more painful - have you tried that? Might help. It didn't last too long with DD, either it passed, or she got used to it?! Moos - am exactly the same, really want to know what is bothering them, but do think it is sometimes not possible to know!

Right, must pay attention to children again.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 06/01/2010 14:39

Star- i was also thinking it could be gums....

Rugbylovingmum · 06/01/2010 19:37

Thanks Star and Can't - I picked up some teething powders today and I'll give them a go tonight and see if that helps her sleep. Her cot arrived today - I was tempted to just leave her in the moses basket until she is more settled but she slept in a cot over xmas and we might as well get all of this out of the way at once. Plus she looks quite squished in the basket and when she kicks and thrws herself about it moves an alarming amount ! Wish me luck .

She has been a little better today after I 'made' her sleep loads yesterday. She has settled a little easier but she is still waking up really crying during her naps and needs to be soothed back to sleep. Last night I fed her at 10ish then she slept until 3 which was fantastic but then she was very restless and whingy until 6.30 when we finally got up.

Cant - fingers crossed you are feeling better tomorrow .

Star - I hope the DCs get their settling in sessions this week and work is okay next week.

Kayz - how exciting. Your MIL sounds crazy, I didn't think that DS1 looked skinny and he is VERY active so he's not likely to be fat is he.

Oh dear, that's DD awake and we are about 15 min late for her bath so I'd better go.

essenceofSES · 06/01/2010 21:05

Hello all!

Star - just seen your piccies on FB. Looks like DD had a great Christmas! Lovely family pics too. Wow at DD's walking with her trolley of bricks too!

Diege - great to hear from you! Glad everything is working out well with the new house.

Cant - sorry you're feeling rotten. Hope it passes quickly

Rugby - my thoughts on reading your post was teething and in fact DS has been behaving almost exactly as you describe today. His top 2 teeth have both just burst through the gums so whether it's those causing his discomfort or whether there's more on the way, I don't know.

Moos - you are doing really well. Love the piccies on FB. Your instincts will be right for her so don't beat yourself up about topping up.

Kay - yet again, your MIL needs taking outside and shooting!

Dog update - Jessie has been in the vets since Monday afternoon. Looks like pancreatitis and kidney failure. Kidneys may improve if the pancreatitis gets controlled and we should know more tomorrow. Please keep your fingers crossed!

tink2010 · 07/01/2010 10:27

morning

still 6 inches here dd1 off school again
we have been out in the snow agian

hubby has got int owork

essenceofSES · 07/01/2010 10:48

The vet's phoned this morning and there's not enough sign of an improvement with Jessie DH is going to go round to the vets after work and we may be having to make a difficult decision

On top of that, O's in an bad way with his teething. Screaming regularly in pain and his bum is so sore and red. It was bleeding in one area this morning and his scrotumis bright red

Sorry for all the but that's just how it is today.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 07/01/2010 12:09

Rugby (can't figure out who you are!), my DS2 was doing the pulling off and fussing and I have been umming and ahhing about teething (even though he's only 10 weeks old) as his gums are all nobbly, not smooth like DS1's were, and if you put a finger or knuckle in his mouth, he doesn't suck it - he gnaws on it - but in the end, I've actually come to the conclusion that its something to do with my let down - it seems too fast for him sometimes, mostly just after he's had a growth spurt, although it hasn't been a problem for a little while.

He seems remarkably contented the last few days, think the new night time routine is suiting him well. He seemed to wake alot last night, but think it was actually only twice () and I'm knackered today. DS1 is home as our road is too icy for me to drive on, although DH's 4x4 is fine so he's at work, shame as I only pay for him to be there three days a week, so to miss one seems a terrible waste of money but there's not much I can do.

My mum sent me a new highchair for him, its a chicco one and its fab! Its suitable from newborn as it reclines right back, but not like normal ones where the back just tips back, the whole seat rocks back to kind of cradle him. And for the newborn, instead of a tray, there's a toy arch that clicks onto the arm rests and he's really happy sat in it, looking at the toys.

Well - he was......be back later....

(Probably loads of x-posts as started typing this at about 10!)

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 07/01/2010 12:27

Hello again! Typing this from the public library as we are still not connected at home, and haven't been able to get into work to log on!! I have been trying to catch up, but only have a vague 'sense' of what the wagon has been up to - sounds like you have been suffering CANT with migraines again - could well be pill related if the ones you usually get are hormone related. Hope you're feeling better soon.
SES, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog . You are doing absolutely everything possible though, so please be kind to yourself. Fingers crossed things will improve though xx
Nursery is open for a bit today, so dd3 in, dds at home with dh and ds. Poor ds has had a terrible cough, so much so that I had to bring him into bed last night as he just sounded so pathetic in his cot poor thing. He seems fine in himself, and really hoping he'll be well again for Monday (selfishly thinking of getting into work, though I suppose he'd like to feel better too! . Schools still closed here, and in a way I hope they are tommorrow too as the walk up will be lethal in the ice and pushing a pram even along the pavement is really hard work.
This is probably it until next week now, but didnl;t just want to disappear after saying hello!
Keep warm everyone and normal service from the diege household will be resumed asap!! (now I just need to remember the upper/lower case letters on my bleedin password!!!).

tink2010 · 07/01/2010 15:53

hi ses - what a hard time u r having!!

sparkly = highchair sounds great

hi diege - snow is causing chaos
