crumpette Looking at the possitives there . Hope your BP goes back to where it should be though.

Been out & done our christmas shopping today. Was unable to get everything od DSs lists, but have done our best. Now it's just a matter of wrapping... gah! Dh won't help cos he "can't wrap anything" so looks like achy back for me.

Oh... for those of you planning on BF, tommee tippee breast pads are half price ATM at Tesco (£2.50 instead of £5). They really are the best, so stock up if you can.

Biccy · 23/12/2009 20:35

shiny, am thinking of you. xx

flyingma, have you got some splints to wear at night? I got some from the physiotherapist and cannot believe the difference they made, overnight. I couldn't straighten my hands in the morning without searing pain, but one night of splint wearing (albeit a bit uncomfy in itself) and it was so much better.

quirkychick · 23/12/2009 20:39

crumpette fingers crossed for your bp.

I know exactly how you feel. I had severe pre-eclampsia last time and I'm always nervous about bp being taken. I didn't get it until 39wks last time and will be 36wks tomorrow at mw appt so feel not out of the woods yet. Looking on the bright side, if they don't want you in until tomorrow to check it can't be really bad as they'd call you in straight away if your bp was high and urine had very high protein.

I think I have dd's cold. Just in time for Christmas. She has been poorly for about a week and missed 2 parties with temp/earache/cough. Great.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 23/12/2009 20:51

Evening all.... quick catch up... thanks for everyone's good wishes. Yes, I do seem to have had everything going BUT have just realised I haven't had carpal tunnel [frgin] !!!! Some positive there!

Went to pantomime today, was excellent. But feeling extremely irritable tonight for some reason. DH been sitting next to me cracking and eating loads of nuts REALLY LOUDLY. Found myself keep glaring and tutting. Silly but really wound me up.

Oh well, Xmas Eve tomorrow and have 15 for buffet lunch, then of course the early bed routine for kids and then Santa comes [frgin].

Happy Christmas everyone. x

hope all have a relatively comfortable, peaceful and relaxing Christmas.

shiny thinking of you; esp since dd1 (4yrs) has had high fever for lasr few days; gp not sure why.

MissMarjoribanks · 24/12/2009 00:35

Evening all - trying to catch up...

shiny - hope things improve for your son soon - and unmumsnet hugs

all others with yucky pregnancy symptoms - my greatest sympathies

Thomas is going to be in hospital over Christmas as he has still not managed to establish breastfeeding. He is making progress though so we're confident he is going to get it eventually. Only about 1 in 3 feeds ends up with him getting anything substantial, so they have to top him up through his nasal tube. I'm disappointed, but not gutted as I think I would have been worried sick that something was going to go wrong over the Christmas period if we'd had him home, without the support we've got at the moment.

Mama2b5 · 24/12/2009 10:32

Hi all - late nite wrapping the DC christmas presents! We dont do the whole father christmas thing - they have always known its us who bless them with there wonderful gifts why should some over weight guy in a red and white outfit get all the thanks when its been me and DH wandering round the ailse late nit early morning finding stocking fillers!

For all who are having cold feelings i hope its not a cold or flu who really needs that now!

LL - im sure juliet will ge there soon its alot of change for her and so will take time but im glad you realise MW comments wasnt meant to cut u up.

MMB- ahhhh Thomas he was early and so it will also take him time but all is well and im glad your comfortable with him being in the hospital over christmas which is only 1 day then back to reality,if it lasted a week then that may off been unbarable!

CTOFN - 15 for buffet???? i hope your not prepping this feast?

Am i the only one that noticed that after my morning ermm pee i am not aiming straight and it goes up on the seat! maybe it doesnt help because i dnt like sitting on the cold seat first thing but i feel like my DS - who pees on the sat all the time and i have to dettol spray it straight after!

well after the late nite dash to tesco's i am well and glad im done- while i wrapped DH seasoned the chickens and beef(dont eat turkey)awaiting my sis and the waitrose goodies! we are only 10 for christmas this is first without mum so wanted a quiet one just my family, come evening will be off to the rest of the family with the DC clutching latest Wii & DS games!!!!Its also my sis bday and shes at work!!!!! oh well catch p over im relaxing abit now before the noise really begins! bye for now!

somewhathorrified · 24/12/2009 10:48

Morning all

flyingma I've had the painful fingers for a couple of months now, I just thought it was because my fingers had swollen up. I've now got pins and needles (with a little numbness) in 1 finger which I found out was carpel tunnel. I mentioned painful knuckles ans sweeling to MW at the time, she just wrote oedema on my notes! This does go away after birth right? biccy I won't bother geting the splints as I'm 37 + 5, do you think any wrist support would do the the same job?

For those of you with kiddies, my DH found this on a truckers forum. It's a site that tracks santa's progress across the globe, hits the UK around 8.30 pm and is supposedly a great way to get the kids to go to bed!

www.noradsanta.org

On the bargain front Sainsbury's are selling 2 energizer 9v batteries for £3 just in case anyone wants backups for their TENS machines.

crumpette · 24/12/2009 11:16

hello all!
I am moping in pyjamas, pissed off that DP hasn't bothered getting me a christmas present (nice of him) and has forgotten when my bday is (less than 2 weeks away), also pissed off that dp won't actually do anything to help me at all, refuses to go food shopping etc..

sorry ventarama there!!!

I'm not too worried about my BP personally, I felt much worse in my first pregnancy but was hoping I'd completely escaped this time, though perhaps not. Started a lot earlier in 1st preg though and kept going in and out of hospital so I think I've got off quite lightly, had blurry vision a few times recently but ironically I thought my BP was low as it was always when I was standing up! anyway yes have another appt later, not quite 'ready' for baby, really annoyed that furniture I ordered at the end of November has only half-arrived, was meant to be here on 5th dec..hmmmhmmmhmm

no carpal tunnel here (sorry!) had it badly in 1st pregnancy so was expecting it to happen again. I found that tubigrip-style support bandages (reasonably tight fitting) from boots that I cut to fit over my wrist and folded back with a hole in for my thumb were the most useful thins, just that slight pressure really helped

I have been having horrendous leg cramps though.. anyone else? I wake up and can't sleep because it hurts SO MUCH gah hate it!

anyway I'm clearly not being very festive today [grinch] lol

crumpette · 24/12/2009 11:21

londonlottie are you home now?

It sounds like you are doing astoundingly well BFing twins! Funny that Juliet isn't as good at feeding as Eve, maybe Eve knows she has to catch up! It's early days, I remember it was agony BFing DD initially and she had all sorts of latching-on probs and got very distracted and was rubbish at it, and then suddenly one day she was brilliant and I hadn't changed anything, so hoping your LOs get the hang of it soon. Did you decide on middle names?

Hope the scan today goes well and you don't have to have anything done.

shiny continued unmumsnetty hugs to you and your DS

MissMB sorry Thomas won't be home for Christmas. More unmumsnetty hugs to you! He was very very early so will take longer to get there but I'm sure he'll be home with you soon.

crumpette · 24/12/2009 11:22

somewhathorrified yes it should go away within a day or two of the birth, nearly there!!

has anyone used a TENS machine before? I haven't, are they any good? Have I left it too late!?

somewhathorrified · 24/12/2009 11:32

Thanks crumpette got loads of tubi grips and stuff like that so will give it a try. Re TENS I wasn't going to bother, but realised that I hadn't got any pain relief organised for my HB (no birth pool and have a bad feeling about G&A) so took someone's advice on here and got DH to go to local Lloyds chemist as they are on offer there at £23...resale (used) on ebay atm for about the same price too .

FakePlasticChristmasTrees · 24/12/2009 12:00

oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god - my waters have just broken! Anyone around? I'm on my own...

DH making his way back from the office. Looks like that £200 ocado order will be a waste, not going to get to eat all that now...

whensmydayoff · 24/12/2009 12:24

fake Oooooh, when you due again??

Thats how it started with me - so exciting. Awwww, your bub is going to join you for xmas (welling up).

FakePlasticChristmasTrees · 24/12/2009 12:27

Due 6th Jan - so i'm 38 weeks, quite respectable. No cramps, no pain, just like the biggest wee ever and some blood! (sorry if TMI)

I'm feeling mightily smug after managing to cut my toenails and do my bikini line , better get my butt to aquanatal now.

somewhathorrified · 24/12/2009 12:59

Oooh fakeplastictrees how excititng! Got family xmas gathering this afternoon, will be sitting there wondering how you are getting on. Must remember to log on when I get back....so keep us updated.

Frao am so at you being able to do your own bikini line! Am going to get DH to do mine in the week sometime, don't want to have dreadlocks down there when MW looks!

bigpreggybelly · 24/12/2009 15:03

Oooooh how exciting - there will be another baby in a couple of days! Happy Christmas everyone!

Carpel tunnel - I was waking up with numb fingers which the midwife said is caused by sleeping with hands flexed towards wrists, which is the natural way most of us sleep - this causes fluid pressure to build up in the nerve canal.

The splints cock your wrist the other way, i.e. bent backwards. I haven't had any splints, but since then I have made sure when going to sleep that the wrist is bent slightly backwards not curled forwards and have not had any numbness on waking for over a week now.

Its worth trying this, as your wrists may stay like that by themselves whilst you're asleep. So it may help a bit.

Biccy · 24/12/2009 15:23

Ooh, that is exciting! Good luck fakeplastictrees!

Yes, the splints mean I can't curl my hands up, which is what I do naturally at night (so it feels a bit weird), and it definitely helps a lot. I keep oscillating between the annoyance of wearing them, and adding yet another thing to my difficulties getting to sleep, and the pain and irritation of the carpal tunnel during the day...

Mama2b5 · 24/12/2009 15:27

Sending you good quick, painless labour fakeplastictrees!
legs crossed for you and I hope all is well.

I have looked on the dec thread and some are still waiting 4 their LO very excited about it all like its me!
DH is out and about im in watching "Narnia" with the DC!

Fraochsmum · 24/12/2009 15:30

Dreadlocks hahaha! Had to use a mirror of course, but am aware that although I can't see the nether regions anymore, others can...
Best wishes fakeplastictrees x

sazlocks · 24/12/2009 15:39

oooooh fakeplastictrees how exciting - a Christmas baby. I just saw that this is your first as well - even more exciting.
Good luck and look forward to hearing your news.
Thinking of you shiny and hoping your DS is through the worst now.
Crumptte what planet is your DP on ???
MissMB sad that Thomas not home for Christmas but good he is being well looked after
flyingma hope all ok with you - I think you may have said that you sent me an email -I never got it.

All ok here although now I have finished work I am getting increasingly wound up about giving birth. Have a consultant appt on Tues and am half minded to go in on my hands and knees and beg for an elective c section . Not worth going into what happened last time but lets just say that the evening my waters broke we had a pool and hynobirthing prep etc ready for a homebirth and 4 days later I ended up with a c section with all manner of faff in between.
Sorry to drag the thread down - I am going to have to get past these feelings but its going to take a lot of positive thinking over the next couple of weeks!
On the Christams front DH went out and did an SAS dawn style raid at M&S at 7 this morning so we are as ready as we are ever going to be. There is 3 inches of snow here and we have a raging fire going so all very Christmassy.
Hope you all have a good one
