shiny sorry that's really bad. hope he makes a speedy recovery!!

whensmydayoff · 22/12/2009 19:51

shiny so sorry. I didn't notice that post until now.

That is awful, I hope he recovers quickly and you can do xmas when he gets home. xxx

sockmonkey · 22/12/2009 19:51

Ali Ooooh how gorgeous is Jacob!! Well done you!
CTOFN How utterly frustrating for you. What a PITA.
Shiny Oh No! Poor DS. Hope he makes a swift recovery. ((hugs)) to you all.

Been to MW today, baby is 4/5 engaged now. She did tell me not to have baby yet as there are no beds available at hospital. She said baby will probably be about same size as the boys (not a 10lb-er) phew!
I have my niece over, as my SIL has had to be admitted to hospital after some dental work complications (she has many medical probs, so not really dentist's fault, just a side-effect). Wondering if all girls are this loud & bossy... my poor boys... my poor ears

sazlocks · 22/12/2009 19:54

evening all - had logging in issues since Sat so just trying to catch up on everything.
alibobins well done on getting Jacob home and in time for xmas - v exciting !
lottie bfing twins must be sooooooo hard - I found it hard enough with one. Agree that you will find great support from La Leche etc but most of all don't beat yourself up as you sound like you are doing great
CTOFN you poor love - sounds like things going from bad to worse - hopefully not too long b4 your ceaser and sterilisation !
sixmincepies sorry to see the news about your DS - hope he is feeling better now
Shinybaubles sorry to hear about your DS - how stressful - hope he is on the mend soon
Sorry if I missed anyone in that round up !
All ok here although tired of people telling me how huge I look . Finding life with a toddler and a bump hard work but glad to have finished work.
Now about that hospital bag !

crumpette · 22/12/2009 20:09

just popping on

shiny so so sorry to hear about DS he will be fine I'm sure but how utterly horrid for you and what bad timing. From my experience, there is so much they can do and usually it will take maybe up to a week and he should be on the mend. Lots of physiotherapy, nebulisers and antibiotics help!! Physio in particular is surprisingly fast at 'fixing' probs. Will he be in the same hospital as you?

Do chat about it on here, please, don't want you going through so much rubbish at the same time as having DC2 x

crumpette · 22/12/2009 20:12

whensmydayoff so cute to hear about Olivia and her tiny hand prints (altogether now.. aaaawwww!) excellent that she's getting on so well

hmm getting a bit impatient, maybe will start eating pineapple and, erm, swallowing [nausea face] !!!

sazlocks · 22/12/2009 20:16

Just took a sneaky peak at lottie and alibobins pics.
lottie - they are sooooo gorgeous - I wasn't feeling particularly broody but I am now.
alibobins how cute is he - you must be so thrilled to be home

alibobins · 22/12/2009 20:40

shiny hope ds gets better soon

Jacob is still not feeding great but midwife been today and weighed him and he hasn't lost anymore but not gained any either she's coming back thursday.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 22/12/2009 21:01

Seriously I wonder what else this year will bring.... so my mum died rather suddenly at beg of February. She was one of 10 children, 4 of which were girls and she was a twin. Her twin was her main carer and her youngest sister (63) also suffered a couple of strokes in recent years so mum's twin cared for her too. All v v close family. Anyway, just had phone call tonight to say the youngest sister has today been discovered as having bowel cancer which has spread to lungs and other maor organs. She has refused treatment so just a waiting game. Clearly its horrid news but I just feel so so so sorry for my mum's twin. She has had to put up with so much grief this year. Life just doesn't seem fair sometimes does it. And do you know what my aunt said? "Oh well, never mind, we have a lovely new baby to look forward to"..... aaarrrggh - feel just terrible.

Fraochsmum · 22/12/2009 21:34

Oh god that's hideous, it certainly doesn't feel like any consolation to you I'm sure. I hate it when all the shit seems to happen to the best of people. Thinking of you and your family at this time.
Shiny, just to reiterate the others comments about your son - I hope he gets better soon and you still manage to look forward to and enjoy your new bundle.
Crumpette - what is the deal with pineapple? My sil mentioned it tonight as well - I have it every morning as part of breakfast with natural yoghurt - am I unwittingly encouraging labour?

FifiForgot · 23/12/2009 05:09

Morning All

As you can see you the hideously early time - I can't sleep, I've been up since 4am. A combination of heavy cold (just in time for Christmas), uncomfortable baby and therefore uncomfortable Mummy and stressing about how much I have left to do before tomorrow. Arrgghh!

I am totally shattered, but every time I lay down I can't breathe, so can't sleep. Have got up to wrap presents having tidied the guest room ready for PiL to arrive on Sunday.

We have had lots of snow over the last few days, so I am hoping that my Ocado delivery will arrive tonight. If not, I'll be off to Tescos this evening to do battle with the crowds!

Not really with it enough to read the thread, but welcome to all the new babies, I can't remember who is going into hospital tomorrow for a section, but good luck and sorry for all those going through a tough time at the moment.

Fraochsmum pineapple is supposed to assist in bringing on labour. I have never tried it myself, but a friend of ours did manage to consume practically a whole one a couple of hours before she went into labour - not sure if it was the pineapple, or just coincidence!

Have a good day all

shinybaubles · 23/12/2009 05:27

Morning everyone I can't sleep without my ds here. I can't believe this is all happening now. I hate to see him all hooked up to drips and monitors - I wish this baby wasn't arriving on Thursday. Sorry to be so miserable so early .

sockmonkey · 23/12/2009 08:33

CTOFN Here's hoping 2010 will be a better year for you. I think you have had more than enough to deal with!
Fraocsh I tried Pineapple with DS1 and it did nothing. I think the idea is that so much acid in it gives you the runs and sets off labour.
shiny ((hugs)) I wish there was something I could do.

mistletoekisses · 23/12/2009 09:06

Shiny - Sending all my love and to you and your family. Such a difficult time for you all. I am sure your DS will come through this. But it really cannot be easy. Look after your LO and yourself ok? I know easier said than done. Is DS in the same hospital as your CS?

CTFN - I am really very sorry to hear your news also. It sounds as though it has been a horrific year for you and your family. The whole treatment for cancer is such a personal thing; with advanced cancer it is such a gamble and I understand that many patients do refuse the treatment so that their quality of life remains uncompromised by chemo etc in their final months. But that is no consolation to you and I am so sorry.

Please both of you come on here for support/ to talk if needed.
xx

CantThinkofFunnyName · 23/12/2009 09:12

Shiny - I can't imagine what you're going through. If your baby has now turned into a favourable position, would you consider postponing op or perhaps going for VBAC?

OP posts:
mistletoekisses · 23/12/2009 09:17

WMDO - great update on Olivia! The little handprint does sound very cute!

grumpallo - so where are they saying you need to deliver your LO?

Sockmonkey - ohhh! are you next after Shiny?

Ali - surely it is a good thing that Jacob hasnt lost anymore weight? Let us know how you get on today.

Crumpette - have fun with your swallowing

Fifi - you sound really stressed. Give Ocado a bell today and check on the delivery. If they dont think it'll arrive, get to Tesco earlier if you can. Hope once Christmas is out of the way, you can relax a little.

Well, I have a check up today. Have put hospital bag in back of car (just incase), but dont think there will be any problems.
Have good days all. Hope the weather hasnt got too many of you trapped.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 23/12/2009 09:26

Fraoch - re the pineapple. At an ante-natal class I attended a little while ago, the mw said that the myth of pineapple is that it's the stalk/hard bit that you need to eat to do anything and hundreds of them! Can't remember what it was about the stalk though ...

Crumpette - already chuckling at the swallowing

OP posts:
somewhathorrified · 23/12/2009 10:40

Morning ladies

shiny sending you big hugs. I can't imagine how horrible things are for you and your family atm, just keep focussed that this situation is only temporary and soon you will all be at home together.

When I had a chat with supervising MW (who I have to admit was amazingly honest and well informed about obstetrics and modern medical studies) she said that they still don't know what causes labour to start (whether it's a hormonal reaction in baby or mum). As such try anything you like, but nothing will start it when your not ready to start (as there are too many things that have to happen simulatneously to initiate things). So the swallowing of certain substances can't possibly work as prostaglandins or whatever they are have to be applied directly to cervix to soften it and they do nothing else, haha DH is gutted .

Got veg shopping to do today, should be fun...not. I do find it funny that I'm constantly bumpming into people with my bump now, I have no spacial awareness when it comes to how wide I've got!

Fraochsmum · 23/12/2009 11:32

I'm with you on the spacial awareness swh - I keep forgetting I have a bump!
Thanks for the info about pineapple, have to say I hadn't heard that one before. lol about getting the runs sockmonkey - I've had it every day for months, but haven't noticed any ill-effects
Although DH has seemed to get exceedingly horny lately, think he is desperate to meet the wee one...and possibly thinking about how long it will be till he can get some again after he arrives!

crumpette · 23/12/2009 12:30

DP presented me with some research that suggests prostaglandins are absorbed 10x more effectively if you, erm, eeerm, ingest them lol

sorry am I dragging the tone of the thread down again!? wasn't me last time I promise

pineapple- It is an enzyme called bromelain (sp?) which apparently causes cervix to 'soften'. I did try eating a whole pineapple the other day, and omg it really hurt my mouth! NO way was that possible (I cut it up first haha) but still, made my mouth actually bleed it's so acidic. I heard you have to eat about 8 whole pineapples in one go, so I may drop that idea!

shiny sending you massive hugs. I hope your DS is in the same hospital as you will be tomorrow? I know how horrible it is when DCs are in hospital, come on here any time of day or night and keep us updated on how he is doing. Crummy timing or what, I really hope that he is fighting fit before the end of the year. Small children are so resilient, he will be OK xxx

jardins · 23/12/2009 13:10

I'm really sorry to gatecrash this thread (although my due date is 30 January)

Dear Shiny I really wanted to let you know that I am with you in spirit and, well, yes, I REALLY am in tears for you here (I don't think it's just hormones). My 5 yr old DS had pneumonia beginning of May. I must reassure you that everything turned out absolutely fine. Please remain as serene as possible: the doctors have seen it all before. My DS recovered well. I'm SURE your's will too.

I am writing simply because I will never forget the anguish of seeing him so ill and how quickly I fell off my little pink cloud when his cold and cough (which he had always before bounced back from quite quickly) degenerated so fast into pneumonia. I recall my husband having been relocated was away from home during this difficult time and I had just fallen pregnant after a miscarriage so my hormones did not help. I imagine you must be feeling similarly during the last throws of pregnancy?

I guess I just wanted to hold your hand in a verrrrrry unmumsnety way and assure you that this too will pass.

My very best wishes.

mistletoekisses · 23/12/2009 17:43

Shiny - hope you are doing ok.

Also sending lots of positive vibes to those feeding and fattening their bubs up!

CTFN - have more of an update as to why they are so reluctant to deliver before 39 weeks. My consultant explained it today. Basically if spontaneous labour happens from about 36 weeks onwards, they do not worry about baby lung maturity. Once labour begins, the mother releases hormones that help the babys lungs mature. If they do an elective section; then obviously lung maturity is a worry as the baby hasnt received the hormones. Around the 37 week mark, the chance of a baby suffering from lung issues if delivered by elective section is 20%. At 39 weeks this drops to 2%. And that is why they are really strict on the 39 week rule.
With DS, their view was the lung issues were much lower risk than keeping him inside me. I was really lucky that my waters broke the night before the section!

crumpette · 23/12/2009 18:18

hello, had an appointment today and have pre-eclampsia symptoms. I had it really badly in first pregnancy but have been fine til now, bp was really high, hmm, anyway have another appt tomorrow and if it's not down will be induced...waaa.. though but one plus is- no need to swallow

flyingma · 23/12/2009 18:44

Geez it takes too long to catch up.

CToFN and shiny our thought are with you both.

CToFN hope the rest of the PG goes ok... you seem to have had everything under the sun.

lottie keep it up and don't lose heart with the BF. Person who gave you an earful re starving your kids really was not being helpful. I pray you don't let them put you off it.

/positive suckling vibes to Eve, Juliet and Jacob.

Am sat on the sofa now with a whole list of things to do but I cannot really manage many / any of them as my carpal tunnel has gotten really bad. I am beginning to think that the pain is almost arthritic and when I wake up in the mornings, even bending my fingers hurt.

Thankfully it is just that and the ocassional sharp pain in the nether areas I think where bubs is trying to engage. Have my MW appt tomorrow so will find how engaged it is. Was just at the brim last time... also not sure if bubs is the correct way round or back to back... wish me luck...

Mama2b5 · 23/12/2009 19:18
