Well found out this morning that I am pg!! 3 weeks and 4 days so pretty early days yet though!

Been trying for a fair while but first month using OPKs so would highly recommend them.

Will introduce myself anyway - dh and I both 26 with a 17 month old ds. Am so excited to be pg again even though it was a bit of a rough ride last time around!

Cadmum, hope you are feeling better.Havent been to this tread for a while.Hope everyone else is good.Still waiting for my dating scan must be roughly 10 and a half to 11 weeks by now.Been in A & E all afternoon as dd (2yrs)decided to eat 2 berries from a plant I dont know the name of!!Seems ok though.

desperatehousewife · 13/08/2005 08:25

Hi everyone, hope you are all feeling ok. I have been so incredibly lucky that I haven't been or felt sick (just a bit grim every now and then) but last night went out for a celebration dinner and couldn't eat my starter (made me feel sick) and could only manage a couple of bits of some side dishes. And couldn't drink anything either..... What a waste of money I was!

Normally I can eat for Britain!

mumtosomeone · 13/08/2005 08:42

cant help popping in to see how you are doing! Marne glad scan went well. get that hubby of yours to look after you!
If anyone sees baggybear get her to cat me please!
Good luck, you are all nearly at 12 weeks now I think!

majormoo · 13/08/2005 13:29

Thank goodness everything is Ok Marne. What a relief.

I haven't had any sickness so can't give any tips on that. Just really tired all the time. I'm glad Big Brother has finished at last-it means I can go to bed before 11pm!!

Have my booking in on Monday and nuchal scan on Thursday. One of the questions I want to ask the midwife is if I can have sex at all for the next 6 months. The bleeding has terrified me so I think I could be looking at a very deprived DH until March! (It makes it worse because by best friend is expecting in January and she has been feeling very saucy the whole way through!!)

swiperfox · 14/08/2005 09:17

I'm with you majormoo....have been desperate to go to bed by 9 but had to stay up to watch bb!!! Will be in bed by 8 tonight i reckon!!

I've found orange lucozade works quite well too for the sickness. although I feel sick from the time i get up til the time i go to bed so can't have too much.... I got in trouble when i was pregnant with dd because all i craved were bounty bars and coke so my blood sugar went way too high!! Am lusting after the coke again so thinking i could be having a girl.....

coppertop · 14/08/2005 13:42

Hi everyone.

MtS and Baggybear - I posted on your other threads but just wanted to say again how sorry I am.

Welcome to Newgirl and Swiperfox.

Nothing much to report here. I was supposed to have had my booking-in appointment with the community MW last week but due to an admin error it didn't happen. I'd only been given a 15min appointment instead of an hour-long one so there wasn't any time to do anything. The next available slot is in just over a week's time when I'll be almost 10 weeks.

The nausea is still there. I'm trying the travelsick bands. They seem to take the edge off the nausea a bit. Ds1 (5) thinks they're my Power Rangers bracelets and that I'm about to turn into what he calls a Mighty Morphin Mummy Ranger!!!

It's a relief to hear that I'm not the only one with a bump already.

desperatehousewife · 15/08/2005 08:10

coppertop - that's disappointing about your booking in appointment. Mine is today and I'm 10 weeks (I'm sure mine was much earlier with DS 3 years ago!)

Felt pretty lousy all weekend - very irritable, exceedingly tired and a bit sicky/headachey....really difficult for my 3 year old who still wants to jump on my tummy and be his usual boisterous self. He can't understand why mummy has to keep going to bed for a 40 minute kip in the middle of the day!

I dont' know how you do it if you are actually being sick as well...I really feel for you all.

Am really looking forward to 'blooming' in a few weeks time!

Can't eat the portion sizes I used to be able to - am definately needing smaller but more often - it's really weird.

How is every one today - hope the sun is shining (like it is here for the first time all weekend!!)

oldfool · 15/08/2005 10:14

Finally got my nuchal scan appointment- not till 31 August! I will be almost 13 weeks by then. I thought it was supposed to be done at 11+3 for optimum effect?

Should I query this and ask for an earlier date, or is this still within the time limits? Apparently I have the blood tests (for downs) at the same time. Our hospital doesn't seem to offer CVS and the next step is an amnio at 14 weeks. None of these times tie in with info in the books, so I'm completely confused. Also worried sick at the thought of amnio. If the books say it is "uncomfortable" that means it is going to be excruciatingly painful, and you have to keep still? (Often think it would be better to have no knowledge of any of this at all-save worrying)

The midwife said that with my age the scan and bloods will come back high risk anyway. Does anyone know what a good result is for someone of 42?

Jackstini · 15/08/2005 11:14

Hi OF

Not an expert at all but have had a look in my books too and says Nuchal scan can be done any time between 11-14 weeks, so don't worry.

It also states the risks for Downs bases on Mum's age - Age 40 is 1 in 100 and Age 43 is 1 in 50. So that's a 98% chance everything will be absolutely fine.
If you are really worried call your MW - you can always go for a CVS privately if you feel the need

Amnio is usually done at 16-20 weeks so hopefully you should have a bit more time to think about this. I know what you mean about the worry though - I am not sure what is worse, worrying about the test results or worrying if you don't have them! Good luck.

Chamomile · 15/08/2005 11:24

Oldfool, I had an amnio last time and it wasn't painful at all but I had a very anxious time afterwards waiting for the resullts. If you have it at 14 wks that means you get the results sooner which has to be good, doesn't it? I am worried I've left it too late to organise a nuchal. I am 10 +5 and meant to be ringing up this morning but I am so unsure of the whole thing I am putting it off . I looked up the risk for 42 and it was about 1 in 65 so anything better than that would be a good result.

RosiePosie · 15/08/2005 13:51

Hello,

I thought I was feeling better - but I ain't! Well, I seem to functioning a bit better than I was, was still feeling cr*p! Maybe I've just got used to feeling like this.

I have my 12 week scan on Thursday - is that the nuchal scan? I've never had one before - they didn't offer them routinely where I lived before. I'm 12 weeks tommorrow - quite happy to have finally reached it!

Did we decide we were going to start a new thread? Whose going to take the plunge? xx

RosiePosie · 15/08/2005 13:53

I'm sorry, the baby seems to have eaten my spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary skills.

desperatehousewife · 15/08/2005 14:30

rosie - i think the standard practice is for an ordinary scan at 12 weeks. This just confirms how many babies there are, that they are in the right place, that there is a heartbeat and gives you a due date.

The nuchal scan is something you normally have to ask for - this measures the thickness of the baby's neck and gives chances of downs syndrome.

newgirl · 15/08/2005 18:19

We have to pay for nuchal scans here - £125. The dating scan (10-12 weeks) and anomoly scan (20 weeks) are on the nhs. It might be an age thing for the nuchal scan. But even if you don't want a nuchal you can have a cambridge test which is a triple or quadruple blood test and is free in our area. I think its a bit later on though. I have obviously just read my leaflet!!

I had my first scan at 10 weeks on friday and it was very exciting. Tiny little shrimp though. Not nearly big enough to justify the fact that my trousers are too tight and I want to eat buns all the time.

Hertford hospital was very efficient, friendly and on time and had good magazines - I can recommend it.

I am also pleased bb has finished as I need some sleep - I had to video Anthony coming out as I was soooo tired - rubbish or what.

desperatehousewife · 15/08/2005 18:31

was really shocked at my booking in appointment today that with a c-section the stay in hospital is usually between 24-48 hours...I think that's shocking!

desperatehousewife · 15/08/2005 19:28

gone really quiet here....eeerie silence! Oh no, have you all started a new thread and are having a great gossipy time and I'm billy no mates!

toothyboy · 15/08/2005 19:32

Dhw - did you think 24-48 hrs was too short? I had mine 2 years ago and the minimum stay was 3 days - I stayed for 4 days.

Are any of the 11 - 12 weeks ladies feeling any movements? I'm certain I've felt some tiny twitching! Or maybe it's my imagination!

desperatehousewife · 15/08/2005 19:34

toothy - i think it's too short a time - it's such a major op. I was in for 48 hours 3 years ago, but they let me go that quickly very reluctantly because I was about to do someone some damage if I stayed in that hell hole for a second longer! Normally it was 5 days. But it seems that here in sussex they are more greedy for their beds back....

toothyboy · 15/08/2005 19:38

I would never have been ready to leave after 2 days - although I think that was more to do with being a nervous 1st time mum than anything else! If I have to have one this time, I think I'd still want to stay 3 days just to ensure I was healing OK. I think you're right though, it's easily forgotten what a major operation it is - not just "another way of giving birth".

swiperfox · 15/08/2005 19:41

When i had my cs last year I'm pretty sure i was there for 3 days - i went home on the 3rd day

desperatehousewife · 15/08/2005 20:02

did you feel ready to go home swiper? I know being in hospital is pretty grim, but the reality of dealing with stairs at home and toddlers etc....might make it harder??

swiperfox · 15/08/2005 20:21

I did - but like you say, hospitals are pretty grim!! They wouldn't leave me alone if ds woke up in the night. Everytime he woke up they came in and took him off me and told me how i should be getting him to sleep which made me desperate to get home.
THe cs was planned though so i had it first thing in the morning. The next morning was told I had to get up and have a shower and take the dressing off, and walk around. Next day i went home in the afternoon.
My first cs was an emergency and I think i was in slightly longer but was a different hospital.

swiperfox · 15/08/2005 20:22

I had to have dp there for the first week to help me with dd, but it heals very quickly and it doesn't take long to get up and about considering it's a major op.

desperatehousewife · 15/08/2005 20:35

i agree - i made myself walk around as much as possible as soon as possible just to get moving again....bloody hurt though! I remember it being summer and having hay fever so every time i sneezed i thought i was going to split my stitches!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for an elective c-section this time - first time was emergency section...(better the devil you know and all that). How was it second time for you swiper? With it all being planned - was it calm and not too bad? How many weeks were you when they delivered?

Frizbe · 15/08/2005 20:52

Oh ouch DHW, really hoping I can avoid a c-section if at all possible....I have my 12 week scan tomorrow! fingers x'd all is ok.....will let you all know!
Hope your all feeling ok, n not too sicky, I'm still a tad green...
