I too am eating like a student - the shame of it!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
stac14 · 14/12/2009 14:32

chulita thats bad enough hun, especially if its affecting you that much. Defo try to talk to your mw she may be able to prescribe something. Was it this bad with DD?

gibbon as carrots says lots of people have had lots of scans and if its what makes you more at ease then surely its worthwhile doing

HowTheGibbonStoleChristmas · 14/12/2009 15:00

Very true stac

Chulita · 14/12/2009 15:20

I can't say much, I had hyperemesis with DD so this is better 'cept I could sleep more last time!
I reckon if the scans were dangerous they wouldn't let you have them unless it was a medical necessity. The fact that if you have twins or IVF you get scanned every couple of weeks makes me think that it's not a problem. A friend had twins by IVF and had scans once a month and towards the end had them every 2 weeks! That 20 - birth wait is huuuuuge!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 14/12/2009 17:21

chulita I'll quit my moaning now, coz you sound like you're having it so much worse! I'm just suffering nausea, bloating and too much saliva! (oh and constipated beyond belief! Must get fybogel...).

I agree with the scanning issue, if it's going to put your mind at rest then surely that's a good enough reason to have it done? Sorry if I didn't word it properly earlier, was trying to ignore my stomach

WhatSheSaid · 14/12/2009 18:20

Just bookmarking

Emster30 · 14/12/2009 18:26

I would go for the additional scan - wish I was having an early scan! Oh well, 2 weeks and 2 days to go...

Really suffering today, I couldn't get to sleep AGAIN last night until 4am so have been a bit zombie-like all day. Made it through the whole day at work though, and am off out to choir practice in a bit (concert next week so have to really!). Hopefully I will sleep well tonight. Anyone else having problems sleeping?

WickedWitchSouthWest · 14/12/2009 18:35

oo oo look!

HowTheGibbonStoleChristmas · 14/12/2009 18:59

WWSW

Yes sleeping all askew here grrrrrr

Spirael · 14/12/2009 19:08

Oooh, festive smileys!

I'm not having problems sleeping so much as having problems not sleeping... I could quite easily curl up right now and fall asleep... Zzzz...

violetbubbles · 14/12/2009 19:15

Hello!
Thanks you so, so much to everyone that offered advice or opinions about the extra scan. I appreciate all of your input!
Firerise,Spirael,Givecarrotsachance,Gibbon,stac14,WickedWitch,Emster30 (and anyone else I've missed - you all rock!!! .
I think I will keep the appointment for my private scan next Monday just in case my NHS one falls through!

Gibbon - I'm not going to the Portland. I'm going to the Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine at the Nuffield. Have you ever been there Stac14?

Last night I slept for five consecutive hours! This is a huge achievement as I've been having trouble sleeping. Rarely getting more than two consecutive hours a night. And I always have to get up early (between 5.30-6am) because I feel so nauseous!

WhatSheSaid · 14/12/2009 19:22

Caught up on the thread now, it moves pretty fast.

Saw midwife yesterday, I can have local midwife (10 mins walk from my house) rather than having to go to hosp for all my appointments (half an hour drive) so happy bout that. Still some hospital appts with specialist, due to my high bp.

Midwife v nice, talked a bit about the birth, she said they won't be happy about me going over 40 wks (due to age and high bp) and won't induce (due to previous c/s) so unless I go into labout before 40 wks it will prob be an elec c/s for me, which she would attend.

Still quite sick but dh finishes work on Fri for 3 weeks so at least he will be around from then if I still feel rough. He has had 6 days off all year so is very much looking forward to 3 weeks off!

kittykat77 · 14/12/2009 19:23

I know what you mean about the sleeping problems. I keep waking up at silly o'clock (3 or 4am generally) coz I feel sick. I'm sure I wasn't this bad with the other 2 - definately not to the point where I was waking in the night with it! Roll on the 2nd trimester and hopefully it will all go away.

DD has twigged that we are having a baby - even though we haven't specifically told her (she is only 3 btw!)She now keeps telling me she would like it to be twins..., and if it can't be twins then it has to be a girl. Am now trying to explain that it doesn't work like that, and you don't get to choose!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 14/12/2009 19:55

violet hope the scan goes well!

Oh and sleep! I can sleep anytime of the day, but just not at night...why?! I've started sleeping with a pillow between my knees which is sorting the sciatica thankfully so I'm like a right old duffer when I get into bed - arranging pillows, hiding glass of water from the cat etc etc

whatshesaid good news about the mw - and your dh having 3 weeks off, all those lovely lie ins! My dd finishes preschool on Wednesday and dh isn't off til the following Wednesday, so I have a week of entertainment to plan for a busy 3.5 yr old, eek.

kitty we told our dd before we went to center parcs a few weeks ago so she wouldn't be upset that I couldn't take her on the slides and funny enough she started on the twins thing too! Now we're back to "I want a sister" lol, explaining about lack of choice doesn't seem to do any good. Will leave it til later on before bringing it up again.

TishTosh21 · 14/12/2009 20:43

Ive only got 6 days left at me temp job, 3 days this week and 3 next, gonna be tough in the new year if i dont find a job by then.

I either have really random dreams or wake up at 3am to go to the loo. Never have a peaceful night nowadays.

lifeistooshort · 14/12/2009 20:45

Can;t catch up with the fast moving thread but I am another one waking up at silly o clock and being unable to go back to sleep!

Am seeing the MW for the first time this week and I hope it will make it a little more real. Will try to catch up on reading the thread but I hope you are all well

stac14 · 14/12/2009 21:19

violet I havent been there, do you need a GP referal or can you contact then yourself? Enjoy your scan hun.

I am so sick of being up and down like a yoyo at night, feel like I want to sleep all the time and when I eventualy settle down I need to pee lol Suppose we need to get used to it cos when the babies are here we will all be moaning about being awake anyway

tish thats rotten about your job, are you with an agency? fingers crossed you get something quick

loving the new festive smileys So good to be on here where everyone knows exactly how your feeling, cheers girls!!

kkfairybrains · 14/12/2009 21:21

the sleep thing gets me 2! and having the most vivid dreams every night! mostly abaout having a baby and its always a girl! dont know whether that means something?!
il be the 12 weeks on friday so wil be starting second trimester and really thought i was starting to feel better but the old faithful nausea has come back with a bang! and its all day nausea now whereas before it was just the odd morning and eating doesnt help anymore cos im gone off my food.feel sick to look at it whereas before i was eating for ireland! could do without as these are the 2 busiest weeks of the year for hairderessers and dont have a day off til christmas day! kinda glad though in a way cos scan next wednesday and the tome will fly when im busy! so excited about it!
hope all of u get a better nights sleep tonight

WinterMadness · 14/12/2009 21:33

Oh my God, I'm so emotional watching Out of my Depth where Amanda Holden wants to be a mw. Partly the memory of childbirth (only a year ago so still pretty fresh in my mind!) partly the anticipation of it all to come again and partly cos I'm an emotional wreck at the best of times never mind with pregnancy hormones raging! If only evolution had made childbirth a bit easier by now...

TishTosh21 · 15/12/2009 08:34

stac no im not with an agency, i was made redundant in last job and got this one as DP's sister runs the company.
We're moving in Feb to a lovely new flat wooo!!

I watched Out of my Depth too! Made me clamp my legs tight together and DP was like bless!

givecarrotsachance · 15/12/2009 10:04

LOL, I watched it too and decided I'm not doing THAT again! What worried me was the lassie who lost the plot, not the earlier women who were groaning and in pain as they were coping (I remember doing a lot of that!). I just don't understand why some people lose it and can't cope.

Last time I was fine with no drugs etc, despite it being back to back, but a lot of that was because I had one strong then one weak contraction so I had more time to pull myself together. I'm worried that this time I'm gonna be that poor girl!

Anyone got any experience of this? What can make you lose control/panic/etc? I absolutely refuse to have an epidural as that was a really good example of how it leads to interventions... loss of movement in the mother and being tied to the machines = inability of body to labour well = baby in distress = ventouse delivery (did you see the huge lump on that poor baby's head from the ventouse???).

violetbubbles · 15/12/2009 10:10

Stac14 - you don't need a GP referral for this place. They have two locations - one at the Nuffield in the West End and one at Cardonald Business Park. Here's a link to their website. They seem to come highly recommended by independent midwives. I'll let you know how it goes next week!

Gracie123 · 15/12/2009 12:37

Bloody ms!! Just movEd into our new house with lovely new carpets. Haven't finished unpacking and I've already vomited in the living room, dining room and on the stairs. I feel like I just have to sit on the floor in the bathroom all day pr risk destroying my decor! How the hell are some of you still going to work???
Fortunately dh finished work on the 5th and doesn't go back until mid jan, so he is looking after ds but not a lot of work is getting done around the house.
FiL still has nasty sf and has offered to take ds because he is off work but I think I managed to decline fairly politely.
Really not looking forward to 9 hour drive to Cornwall for christmas now though

DeeLite · 15/12/2009 12:44

Oh Gracie, that sounds awful. You poor thing. I moan to DH about my MS but mine is pretty low on the scale so I really shouldn't complain. I haven't vomited at all but just feel lousy most of the time. It's like a moderate hangover but without the shame and guilt that usually accompanies a hangover .

On the bright side, congrats on the new house.

stac14 · 15/12/2009 12:47

omg ladies, I never watched it and I am now glad i didnt lol. rots I had the epidural with ds but by the time it came to pushing I felt everything and still needed the ventouse cap, luckily ds didnt have a lumpy head but did have a cut round his scalp due to suction cup. Think some women get so stressed/panicky/anxious because they are frightened about what is happening to them or some are frightened because they know what they are going in for.

My cousin like me has a big age gap, and said having her 2nd was like she had never done it before then she had a 3rd a year later and was petrified. I must be honest I am nervous as hell, ds wasnt an easy delivery and he was a big boy lol

Thanks violet I will have a look so if we decide not to got for a 3d scan I can go for a private later in pregnancy if nhs isnt scanning me.

tish wish I was moving, hoping we have dd so we have to lol can't expect ds to share with a girl.

kkfairy poor you being so busy at the moment but as you say its probably keeping your mind off the sickness, hopefully you see an improvement over the next couple of weeks

How is everyone else today? xx

Gracie123 · 15/12/2009 13:02

Carrots - I had epidural, labored for hours going nowhere but felt relatively calm about the whole thing. I certainly didn't lose control or panic, until they said ds heart had stopped. Then I was a bloody wreck until they knocked me out (fortunately only 1 min later) for an em cs.
I don't think I would have had an epi by choice but was desperate to have a 'natural' birth as much as possible and consultant said they needed to dislocate my hip (pre-existing injury + large baby)
think I'll probably be a wreck this time around though having had such a complicated first time...
