Last chance for a Scorpio, after this weekend they'll all be Sagittarians!

Katster I also had a pedicure at 37 weeks cos I thought he was on his way out! It definately needs a touch up but my problem is I've been surviving on basic mat pay for 6 weeks now and I can't afford any more pampering. I might get DP to paint them again for me...

Some fab ideas though - yesterday I had a really long bath with scented candles lit everywhere followed by an early night and I do feel a bit chirpier today!

Congratulations preggo and loving the name choice lissy!

BeckyBendyLegs · 24/11/2009 09:59

Katster I went in to hospital to be induced at 40+12 with DS1 and he came the night I checked in! So they do come before. Opposite me in hospital this time around was a woman who had the exact same experience. Perhaps these babies know that this is their last chance to get out quick!

katster37 · 24/11/2009 10:03

I know, Shoesies - I feel like I can't really justify forking out for a manicure. I hate the thought of not getting full pay. Yuck.

BBL I have heard of a few cases too - a friend arrived to be induced and her waters went in the hospital corridor, just outside the ward!

skorpion · 24/11/2009 10:03

preggo congratulations on your news!

I love all these ideas about pampering, I'm contemplating a pedi. Never had one, so would be fun.

Right, off to do some cleaning. The urge is gone, but it has to be doneI suppose.

shoesies · 24/11/2009 10:17

I've just thought of a novel way to combat both the "being skint" issue and "going crazy at overdue baby" issue - lets start charging them for everyday they're overdue . I've settled on £5 a day - mines 6 days over now so thats £30 I can take out of his pocket money and spend on eating cake and painting toes...

I feel better already.

longwayaway · 24/11/2009 10:19

hahaha, shoesies I like that idea

darlings · 24/11/2009 10:34

Shoesies love ur idea, i feel like booking 4 a haircut today while DS is at school and i am waiting for the labour to start...

katster37 · 24/11/2009 10:42

Skorpion my cleaning urge is gone too. I kept it up for 4 weeks, and now I am thinking the baby can come and live in a messy house because it has been wasting me time.

Shoesies am v much liking the idea! Hee hee!

I wonder where hobnob is???

longwayaway · 24/11/2009 10:51

I didn't want to say anything yesterday for fear of jinxing it, but we haven't heard from hobnob since Sunday!

Laugs · 24/11/2009 11:22

I'm loving all these pampering plans! I can't really afford them either as I haven't started getting maternity pay yet and the job I've just finished won't be paid until January.

Still, I've had a nice morning. DH dropped DD at nursery and we went back to bed for 3 hours (He's on study leave ). Just got up for coffee and quadruple chocolate biscuits. It might not be the height of luxury, but it will probably feel like it in a few days' time!

katster DD was born at 40+13, the day before my induction. I remember a midwife telling me loads of babies jump ship once an induction is on the cards. Still, +14 is ages away for you yet - plenty of time for pampering and then a wee bit of childbirth

longwayaway I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for hobnob too. Can't wait to hear from her

tigger I hope you had a better night's sleep last night

katster37 · 24/11/2009 11:38

Laugs your morning sounds lovely! I wish my DH was on study leave. I hope I am not an emotional wreck/grumpy sod the whole time he is on paternity leave, though I suspect I might be. He has been so good during this pregnancy and I know that's not something you can take for granted. Every night he gives me a 'rub' (is really a massage, but that sounds too poncey, I think, so he says 'come here for your rub'!) and generally makes sure I'm OK! I expect it is first pregnancy syndrome though!

Well, back ache is persisting. Please humour me that this could be a sign?!?! It comes in waves, like period pain but in my back and only a bit in my tummy. Hmm. We will see... Also () definite 'loose bowels'. Lovely.

Laugs · 24/11/2009 11:45

It could be a sign! (not even just humouring you). When I had DD it started with backache and a kind of heavy period pain feeling. I didn't lose the plug until I was very far into labour and had to have my waters broken too, so the backache feeling is the one I am waiting for.

You and DH will probably both be really emotional when he's on paternity leave, but you're unlikely to be grumpy: you will be falling in love

shoesies · 24/11/2009 12:11

Ooh that sounds like a good sign! Fingers crossed for you katster

And a little bit !

longwayaway · 24/11/2009 12:22

katster I'm just two days behind you and haven't felt a thing! No signs, nothing. Not sure if that makes you feel better. I'm officially overdue and all I can think is, I haven't even been through the false starts yet, how much longer is this going to take?? Praying for pain.

OP posts:
katster37 · 24/11/2009 12:39

Shoesies don't be - I seem to have had random 'signs' for the last two weeks, which now makes me feel about 3 months overdue!!

Longwayaway a friend from NCT had nothing, not even one Braxton Hick - she had a 3 hour labour, giving birth on her settee with no pain relief! (first baby!) so have faith! I would rather have that option than the two weeks of stupid 'nigglingness' that I seem to be getting!

Fingers crossed we are all on that post-natal thread by the weekend!

raggie · 24/11/2009 13:25

Is it jinxing it to say 'no sign of pav today'...?

katster37 · 24/11/2009 13:27

Eeeek, Pav?? PAV where are you?????

OK, well, I am not going to believe in jinxing and need guidance - backache still there, but now having tight tummy which then turns into sharp not pleasant period-type pain in bottom of tummy (not whole of tummy) and back - every 5 - 6 minutes. Is this real or am I being a drama queen yet again? Have not had anything like this before and it is scaring me.

Tamlin · 24/11/2009 13:35

Katster, sounds like the real thing to me. Low-down period-type pain which wraps around your lower back? Does it rise and then fall in intensity?

Take a hot bath and see if they keep coming...

katster37 · 24/11/2009 13:37

Yes Tamlin - I have mild back ache all the time, but tummy goes hard and tight, then sharp pain in tummy, seems to peak, then tapers off - last two were 4 mins apart and last one lasted 34 secs from tightning to tapering off, does this sound real? Def not a BH I don't think

Tamlin · 24/11/2009 13:40

I think it does sound like early labour (as I experienced it anyway). Try the hot bath for half an hour, and take a couple of paracetamol. If everything is still going afterwards, then I'd say you probably should start making phone calls (although not wildly urgent ones unless the contractions start getting closer, you could be in early labour for a loooooong time).

Tamlin · 24/11/2009 13:42

And also - SQUEEEEEEE! I think we might be seeing you on the postnatal thread soon.

BeckyBendyLegs · 24/11/2009 13:47

Ohhhh Katster sounds like This Is It! Good luck

Tabbykat · 24/11/2009 13:47

Afternoon all! Fingers crossed for those of you still waiting on babies.

Well, baby Esme decided to finally put in an appearance 10 days late and was born on 17th, and was 8lb 6oz. Had only seen the midwife that morning for another sweep which she couldn't do as the baby's head was so low it was in the way of the cervix. Induction was all booked for the friday, but that afternoon I had a bit of backache.

Went for a bath at 4.30 as I felt a bit stiff. Phoned DH at 5 to ask him to come home and look after DD1 as I felt so rough. Still didn't think this was it but phoned my parents to come and look after her just in case as was in quite a lot of pain. DH home at six, got to the hospital at 7 in v much pain now to be told at their first exam I was already at nine cm and it was too late for any pain relief but gas and air! Our beauitiful girl arrived just an hour and a half after we got there - they hadn't even filled in our paperwork!

Having waited so long for her to turn up it was all an incredible rush and so we didn't use a thing out of the labour bag and it was only once she was born we realised I was still in my top and bra as there hadn't been time to take them off. Twas all such a sudden shock! Unfortunately I retained the placenta again, so despite having got her out with just gas and air, I ended up in theatre with a spinal, but we are all fine, and she is a very healthy gorgeous girl.

Hope you all get your beautiful babies very soon, xx

ursigurke · 24/11/2009 14:22

Katster, that sounds very real to me (and I am sooooo experienced ) so good luck to you, lots of energy and strength and an easy labour plus birth.
Same to those who seem to have disappeared, like hobnob and pavlov

katster37 · 24/11/2009 14:24

TabbyKat Yay and congratulations! How exciting your birth story sounds! And gorgeous name.

Well, these pains (am unwilling to use the C word) are continuing and deff getting nastier, but I feel a strange sense of calm. Just doing some ironing. Rang Ben but he is freaking out and insisting on coming home. Have told him to stay at work 'cos I have suspicion he is in major flap and will freak me out - total role reversal!
