there you go

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Joseyjo · 15/07/2005 14:54

well, there has to be balance in everything doesn't there? so i exist to counter all you lucky home-birthers!! i had it confirmed today that i am definitely looking at a c-section at about 38 weeks. so in 9 weeks time - now THAT is scarey!
having said all of that baby looked gorgeous on the scan and even waved at us although my unromantic dh said - don't be stupid it doesn't even know what it is doing. dull boy!! i didn't get any 3d pictures as the placenta was right in front of baby's face, but i did get a nice normal 2d one. am happier now my consultant is back off sabatical and she even wants to do the op, so that is ideal.
went to nct again last night and it was slightly less scarey than last week's "pain relief and what terrible things it does to you and the baby". last night's intervention conversation was positively tame in comparison!! also managed to have a good chat with another couple, so bonding has officially started!

right - todays task is to finish the list for my hospital bag as dh is starting to get twitchy about the fact it isn't packed. given that even our early ds wasn't born until 32 weeks i think he needs to chill, but hey - it is going to be him running round the shops in a panic, so i would prefer to have some control over the shopping!!
chat later...

Joseyjo · 15/07/2005 14:56

btw forgot to mention, the mw found some protein in my wee at hospital. my blood pressure is dandy, so it is not pre-eclampsia, but they think it might be a urinary infection. has anyone had one because i have no symptoms at all? they have sent the sample off to try and grow it (ick!!).

BigBumpBonnie · 15/07/2005 15:21

hi all. Yes Joseyjo, I had a urinary infection with dd1. They sent off the sample and the hospital faxed back almost immediately that I needed some antibiotics. I had no symptoms whatsoever but the antibiotics cleared it up as my next sample was fine. I think these things are quite common and as long as your blood pressures ok then there's nothing to worry about.

My poor dh is in hospital today having an operation to remove some screws from his leg. Just waiting for a phone call to say he's ok. It's only a small operation but you can't help worrying when there's a general anesthetic involved.

Looks like I won't be getting pampered for a while as he'll be off his feet and will milk it for as long as possible!

Feeling really hot today, babies kicks are getting harder and sometimes I have to catch my breath as my whole tummy moves. Really weird. I seem to wake up most mornings and my bumps a different shape.

for everyone else having scans but I'm glad everyones doing well! I'd love to get another look at dd but suppose I'll just have to wait

Moomin · 15/07/2005 16:52

BBB - hope your dh is Ok - I'm sure he will be.
Quick mat leave question - can anyone tell me what the actual 'date of confinement' is/means? Been trying to sort out my notice to work about my mat leave and I'm getting all confused. Can't remember a thing from last time. Is confinement the expected due date? They've asked me what date I want as my last working day and then the confinement date thing so they can't be the same thing can they?

fastasleep · 15/07/2005 19:22

Don't know about mat leave! The scan sounds really cool, and it must be nice to pretty much know when you'll get your bundle I hope you're DH is up and about and pampering you in no time BBB!

hester · 15/07/2005 22:05

Moomin, I THINK date of confinement is the same as EDD. That's the date I told them, anyway.

Yesterday I felt like a camel; today I feel - and look - like a hobbit. I swear I can feel my right foot SLOSHING as I walk, it's so swollen and fluid-logged. Yuck!

Came home, collapsed on the bed, dp said to move over and she'd give me a foot massage. I tried to move, couldn't heave my bulk over, started puffing and groaning like a moose in labour. Dp started giggling, I started giggling - forgot to pull my knees up and all my tummy ligaments were in agony. I then started crying because it hurt so much, then laughing at the same time, then I (ahem) let loose a little wind , then went completely hysterical with humiliation.

Was I really saying just yesterday that this is my most attractive hour?! Cancel - rewind - I have become completely unfanciable!

Moomin · 15/07/2005 23:59

ooo that's good. That gives me more time at home. Do you have to inform them if the date you give birth is earlier or later than the one they had down as edd? Only I'm prob going to have the bobbin around 17th Oct now (elec sect) but it's not due til the 26th. I spose not many people give birth on their actual due date, so the edd would need to be the one they go on.
God it's late. I need to go to bed.

BigBumpBonnie · 16/07/2005 10:31

Thanks for all the good wishes for dh. He is fine but enjoying putting his feet up a little bit too much Problem is they've told him he needs at least 4 weeks off work but he's self employed so that means no income for the next month Oh well, looks like I'll have to stop spending on baby bits for a while. At least he's ok anyway, that's the main thing.

Know what you mean about feeling very unfanciable, hester. I'm finding it really hard to move about and can't move without huffing and puffing. I'm praying the weather cools down soon. I had a bad experience in the hospital yesterday picking up dh. I went all hot and dizzy and nearly passed out. I think it was a mixture of the heat and the sight of all the pee bags dangling from the beds!

I think I've decided this time to def have an epidural. Just one question, the most unbearable part of my last labour was the crowning. Does an epidural really mean that bit won't be as bad? Also how quickly do you have to have one as with dd I didn't go to the hospital until i was 5cm.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend

Elf1981 · 16/07/2005 10:34

On the maternity leave form you just need to fill in the date you want to leave (rounded up to nearest Sunday) and the EDD (rounded up / down to nearest Sunday). At my work place, you get assigned a person from HR to be your maternity contact, who deals with all the forms and whatnot, and contacts you through the maternity leave to see how you are, and is also the one to contacts you at the end of 6 months leave to see if you're taking the additional 6 months leave too.

Had awful day yesterday. Boo did not move at all. I've noticed a change in patterns of movement and discussed with midwife, so she told me a couple of things to stimulate movement, so did them all, and still nothing. Starting getting really worried and called midwife at 2:00 but they were all out on home visits so had to wait until 4:00 (going out of my mind BTW!) until I managed to speak to one. Luckily got my own, and she arranged for me to go in. Listened in, heartbeat fine and strong, and Boo kicked one the monitor was put on my tummy
So relived.
Midwife told me she's not overly concerned, as movement patterns have changed recently, so its not as if it's totally out of the blue, plus heart beat is lovely. Did say if I were worried to call the hospital to see if they wanted to take me in and put me on a trace thingy.
Got home, had tea, and Boo kicked the crap out of me. Had a couple of kicks this morning, so feeling a bit better.
I'm 27 + 3. Got next midwife appointment on the 27th so will be carefully monitering Boo's kicks myself between now and then!!

fastasleep · 16/07/2005 22:12

Awww Elf the stubborn bumps are always the hardest! Looks like you're in for a tough time when they reach teenagedom! Don't feel silly if you keep going back to the midwife or the hospital, you're not wasting anyone's time!

Hester you sound like me! I bet you look much cuter than you feel! DH was saying last night about my farting - 'don't worry I've read an article on why food stays in your gut longer and makes you fart... it's natural you know.' he's so weird!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 16/07/2005 22:15

Elf, I was going through eactly the same thing on wednesday, i know how you feel.

MW appointment tomorrow afternoon - will see hwat she thinks of bump! Must remember to do a wee for her because i forgot last time and could only squeeze out a few drops!!!

Night night all and speak to all soon xxx

hester · 17/07/2005 10:11

fastasleep, the wind problem is usually confined to burping - which is terrible because I'm not one of life's 'let it all hang out' types - I like to be ladylike and am completely mortified by my gurgly gut! Anyone got any tips on how to reduce this? I don't drink fizzy drinks anymore (they make me feel sick).

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 17/07/2005 10:12

Its a pregnancy thing! No chance of reducing it - lucky you for having the burps tho - mines the other end!!!

Elf1981 · 17/07/2005 10:42

Not suffering with wind, but DH has just woken up with a growl telling me he is renaming me Little Miss Fidget Arse as I kept he awake all night tossing and turning. Ooops!

Hope all are well!

Elf1981 · 17/07/2005 10:43

Oh, went to a wedding reception last night and Boo was obviously awake with the loud music and kicked happily along most of the night, and woke me up from a rather nice dream by kicking me this morning, so looks like the edge can be taken off my worrying!

hester · 17/07/2005 11:05

Well done, Boo - no more worrying your mummy, now

Now that my baby has turned head-down, the kicks have moved up and I'm really enjoying watching my bump bounce about. It's SO interesting that when forced to choose between paying attention in working meetings and watching bump, bump usually wins out. My professional image is slipping by the day...

No sign of little feet or fists poking out yet, or Braxton Hicks. When can I expect these? (I'm 26+6.)

fastasleep · 17/07/2005 14:37

You might never feel Braxton Hicks, I didn't first time round it makes no difference if you do or you don't... I only got feet poking out when she was feet down, now I get a big mexican wave of a belly

Glad your little boo's on the move Elf

I'm always curious about urine samples for the midwives, they always ask 'did you bring a sample?' and I always go 'no' and blush but, in all my time of being pregnant no one's ever given me anything to take home or told me what to bring my wee in!! (Do you have to go out and buy jars..?!)

OOOF she won't stop kicking! Lol

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 17/07/2005 15:35

my mw gave me a pot on my first visit.

mw appointment went well....m easuring exactly as i should 26cms! FHH - 150bpm! We both think boy but still cant be sure!

Blood pressure on the low side, nothing unusual for me - 100/60.

All in all..... good report!

fastasleep · 17/07/2005 18:53

Glad to hear it JM ...grrr @ the stingy midwives, no wonder no one ever brings samples if they don't give us anything to 'go' in!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 17/07/2005 18:58

Just annoyed with myself for not saying about the pelvis pain - trip to the docs it is! Pregnancy brain and all that.... cant rely on remembering anything!

Moomin · 17/07/2005 19:17

when i see the midives they always give me back my pot of wee after testing it - they won't even empty it for me! Makes me laugh becuase when I see my gp he gives me a new pot every time just to be naughty. He says he thinks it's horrid carrying your own wee around with you in your handbag.

nervousmum2be · 17/07/2005 19:26

Hester, i was wondering the same thing re hands/elbows sticking out, as i haven't noticed it yet. My MW says it's because i've got an anterior lying placenta. Re braxton Hicks, i've not felt anything yet, but i do notice my bump go hard sometimes, which my friend assured me is my uterus contracting (apparantly the same thing).

Too hot - really need a thunderstorm to clear the air. Either that, or i may have to remove the shelves from our upright freezer and move in there for the next 10 or so weeks - trust me, in my darker moments, i have seriously considered it!!!

fastasleep · 17/07/2005 19:49

Ohhh you're meant to take that pot home? No one ever said!

ButtonMoon · 17/07/2005 20:10

Urghhh! Reusing that pot sounds a bit mingin and smelly to me...I just buy mine from the local chemist 22p each. I'm too hot too but hayfever seems to have subsided a little....really uncomfy at night and seem to wake at 4 every morning and have trouble getting back off to sleep again...obviously preparing me for what will be happening in 3 months time!

alterego · 17/07/2005 20:14

My pot (which is also returned to me unemptied each time - yeeurrggh) is just like a test-tube - how do you all manage to wee in the pot without getting it all over your hands (also yeeurrggh) [embarrassed emoticon]. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
